Hi ED,

Quick question, do you know what the club plan to do with Pato once the season has ended, some have reported that Corinthians expect him to stay with Chelsea for the next season, I believe he was interviewed recently and he wasn't sure on his future. Any insight would be great.

Thanks in advance and for all the work you do for us.

{Ed002's Note - Pato will becoming out of contract but there is a contractual clause in the loan that stop Chelsea taking him on full time without a fee being paid - albeit fairly small. Putting aside his personal situation there were three issues that needed to be addressed for Chelsea when he joined - two of those took longer to resolve than anticipated and one the club are yet to be convinced about.}

A bit concerning at Rob Beasleys report that Conte has met JT and told him he has no say on player contracts or signings. He is "just the coach". If true then who does decide what players come in and who goes out?

Papers being papers they love a story especially one that gets the tongues wagging but there are several articles around saying the same that Conte has been told to put forward his needs and they will be discussed and others will pursue, it also covered the fact he is upset he cannot bring his team as other managers do. Fact or fiction there is often no smoke without at least a small fire.

{Ed002's Note - The manager is not responsible for signing or discussing player contracts at Chelsea - and certainly haven't been for as long as I can remember. It is very naive to think managers deal with such matters.}

I realise that Managers don't personally get involved in signing or discussing player contracts. My concern was that he is viewed merely as 'the coach'. I still suspect that others at the club are identifying players and bringing them in without the manager necessarily wanting them. Baba Rahman last season for instance.

{Ed002's Note - That is not how the process works, there was one player who arrived on a "trust" basis because others were not available. Aside from that you are quite wrong about the overall process.}

I just hope Conte, as the Manager does have a significant say in who goes out and who comes in. I still have my doubts about players signed in the last decade or so. Did the incumbent Manager want them. Shevchenko certainly springs to mind.
