I agree with Ed002 and believe that everything will be taken care of before the end of the window. My major concern though is that this could all have been done without the drama and publicly stating the disagreement between the manager and the board. Even if we do sign a few player and have a good squad this whole saga has already killed the mood of the manager, players and the board. I don't see that enthusiasm within the squad and the manager for this season. This has been the story for the past few years, Conte has always stated he doesn't want to buy for the sake of it and every season it seems that the board wants t do its own business irrespective of the idea of the manager. Looks like Michael Emenalo and Co. have reached their level of incompetency and now are just a bunch of turds standing in the clubs way. Some people seriously need to be walked out of the club.

Isco is a player who id break the bank for, hard working covers ground keeps ball takes players on has final pass and can score,

Isco creates chances and can score goals.
Good luck to Matic at the land of giants!

We will make two signings by the weekend.
This should satisfy all the worried supporters and JUST maybe the scouser pundits that litter our media will get a life!

Agree0 Disagree1

08 Aug 2017 18:22:58
Everyone saying we should sign players to compete with others for a place in the team - or that we already have players who provide cover like azpi and rudiger for Moses. Personally I think we should sign players not to compete or as back ups we should sign players who are better than what we have. Know it will cost a lot f money but prices are only going to increase so might as well not look for a 30 year old candreva at 25m for squad depth but a 21 ear old lemar/ dembele at 80-100m for a starting position for the next 7/ 8 years and let Pedro/ Willian be the backups.

Believable6 Unbelievable4

08 Aug 2017 18:18:51
I have said this for weeks. Sign Lemar! But seriously he's a brilliant young talent and apparently he has left training upset over a bust up between Fabinho and mbappe. It could easily be paper nonsense but Arsenal are going to see this as an opportunity to sign him and why don't we? He's an upgrade on Pedro and Willian and he could also I've cover to hazard and even alonso. Arsene Wenger wants to play him in cm which is absurd. £80m is A Lot of money but for a player we could have for 8+ years it's worth it. His price will only increase as he gets better.

So the Conte to walk is gathering pace I see. Do not be surprised if he does. I know I won't be. The conflict between board and manager is becoming wider and wider. Board want younger players (resale value) manager wants older experienced ones. Not going to end well I feel.

Believable0 Unbelievable8

08 Aug 2017 17:29:40
I don't expect Conte to leave. I expect Chelsea to sign squad players before the end of the deadline. I can't see players that are signed that would walk into our starting 11.

But I agree there is a noticeable conflict between board and manager. However, the media are blowing it out of proportion. It's funny how Carragher thinks Conte will leave after this season. Only Conte himself will know.

But like last year, Chelsea are already being written off. Everybody seems to be writing us off again and circulating manager discontent etc. Pressure should ease. Hopefully a couple of Morata goals this weekend and comprehensive victory will settle nerves again. In Conte we have a manager that can turn ordinary into spectacular.

Agree7 Disagree0

08 Aug 2017 17:58:37
Actually ed002 has said that the board have signed the players Conte has chosen over their recommendations. Conte's 'unhappiness' stems from the timing of the arrivals and the fact that all the signings he wants haven't been completed yet rather than the board signing players he didn't choose.

So with 3 weeks until the end of the transfer window and 4 days until our 1st match in the league! We have some strengthening to do.

As far as im aware, this is who we have been linked to:

Defence:-

Toijan
Sandro
Van Dijk
Sanches
Aurier
Sidibe

Midfield:-

Drinkwater
Oxlade-chamberlain
Barkley
Sanches
Candreva

Forward:-

Young forward?

With the transfer deadline approaching it is unrealistic to me to expect numerous signings. I think buying Van Dike and loaning Christensen to Inter makes sense for all parties involved.
We get a proven CB to provide competition for Cahill, this also give Moses competition from Rudiger and Dave.

With the loan of Christensen to Inter this would hopefully sweeten the deal for them to sell us Candreva which provides much needed winger depth.

Lastly I would like to see us move for Ross Barkley, always been intrigued about his potential but it is exactly that. With some positional help and work rate I think he could become a top box to box midfielder.

Just my thoughts on the matter, I do also hope the small squad gives players like Boga and Musonda a chance as I have always been big fans.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

08 Aug 2017 15:12:27
We haven't been linked to Toljan or Sidibe yet but I would take either of those as they are improvements on what we have.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Aug 2017 18:10:35
Christensen is as much proven as VVD, just in Bundesliga and not in PL. And guess what, Bundesliga is a very good league. I don't buy the PL proven nonsense. Only thing that matters is whether players can adapt culturally, but with Christensen having already spent a couple of years in England he should be fine.
Christensen has also played in CL already, and against quality opposition, so he's actually pretty proven for a 21 year old.

Rudiger cover for Moses? Wtf.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2017 19:37:15
Rudiger has played a lot of his career as a right wingback and centre back, a 10 second google search will verify that!

Agree0 Disagree1

Ed002 also mentioned that Conte targeted Rudiger as a RB who could cover CB rather than the other way round and instead of the media linked Danilo.

What's this obsession with Conte going? If he leave so what? Managers and players come and go but the club remains. Instead of him to work with what he has he keeps complaining about the lack of depth that's it's now boring, just like most of us here. We should look at the positive and stop focusing on the negative.

Agree2 Disagree1

08 Aug 2017 16:37:44
Pardon? Wow how about a lack of respect for the manager who turned the fortunes of this club around in one season. He's one of the BEST managers in the world and he's at our club, yet you moan because people are worried that he may leave. Jesus man, the bloke wants backing and wants to help take this club on further and yes we 100% lack depth, that's plain to see. And fair play to him having a moan about not getting the players in. He told them what he wanted/ needed and yet we go into the first week of the season, still waiting for his requested players to be signed. He wanted them in for pre season so he can get his ideas across. Cannot see the problem with that. But saying your bored of him complaining, i would love to see you do the job with your hands tied regarding signings.

Unbelievable.

Agree1 Disagree2

08 Aug 2017 19:01:21
You are missing the main point here Adam. Why are people so afraid of Conte leaving? Club is a continum, managers come and go. We've got over Mourinho twice. If Conte decides to leave just because he didn't get the players he wanted then so be it. I like the fella but his complaints are starting to get boring. Just my opinion, no need to shoot me for it.

Ed002 any good news today?

08 Aug 2017 10:14:33
Come on, man. Have you never read anything that the ed's have said? They DO NOT wish to give constant updates. I know we all desperately want good news, but imagine the amount of times the eds are being asked these questions on the various fan-pages. We've really got to stop doing what they say they dislike, otherwise we'll spend the remainder of the transfer window without, at least, ED002's valuable inputs. We've already tried that once this window. Let's not go back that same old, boring road once again :)

As it stands I'm slightly worried going into the season. The squad is on the thin side. Conte doesn't seem himself in the press conferences. If Kante gets injured we'll be in massive trouble.

I really hope I'm wrong went it comes to conte but I can't see him being our manager come January. I think we'll have a few bad results in the first half of the season and we'll be out of contention for the league and he'll walk away saying that he wasn't given the control of the team like he wanted.

Hopefully we'll make some important signings before the end of the window and I'll be way off the mark.

In an ideal world I'd like Sandro, vvd, drinkwater and ox.
I think we'd then have much more balance and depth to our squad.

I was wondering if I could ask one of the Eds a question to help me understand Chelsea's approach to transfers. I hope one of you can help.

When Mr Abramovich first came to Chelsea he took our transfer dealings to an unheralded level. This approach then changed with the implementation of FFP. What I would like to know is with FFP evidently being less of a concern to many clubs now, what with the spiralling transfer fees and wages that are being both asked for and paid, why has Chelsea's approach stayed so wedded to financial prudence? We have agreed far more advantageous commercial agreements and broadcast rights have also grown significantly. Is it anything to do with the ability of the owner to fund such dealings now what with some clubs being commercial beasts (United) and others state backed (PSG and City in various guises)?

I am conscious that Ed002 often repeats that the club will not be held to ransom and will also not buy for the sake of it but how does that reconcile itself when it is evident that the club does need to buy and so clubs will look to charge the highest fee possible? If it came to it would the club be more likely to pay the quoted amount or go into a season short of the desired resource but having maintained their negotiating stance?

If any of this is naive or hugely wide of the mark, I apologise. I am just trying to make some sense of the incoming and outgoings over the past few windows. I understand that many players have moved on for a greater chance of regular first team football but I find it strange that we have allowed so many to leave before securing replacements.

Any thoughts or insights that can be shared would be gratefully received.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - (a) FFP is not of less a concern to anyone. (b) There is no funding issue. (c) The cloub won't be held to ransom but I am not aware of any transfer where this has meant a player has not signed for Chelsea. There might be one, but I cannot think of anyone right now.}

08 Aug 2017 10:17:11
Thank you very much for taking the time to reply Ed002.

I stand corrected regarding FFP. That was my assumption based on why some clubs are spending but I appreciate that it's incorrect.

May I ask you if in your opinion Antonio Conte will leave Chelsea because of his dissatisfaction with the club's performance in this and the previous two transfer windows? That is unless there is a real change in circumstances between now and the window closing.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Where do you think the performance has been unsatisfactory?}

08 Aug 2017 10:46:23
Apologies, that is an assumption I have made. Maybe wrongly, I believed that Mr Conte had asked for certain players to be recruited last summer and in January and they didn't arrive at Chelsea. Currently his own words in press conferences suggest he is frustrated and unhappy regarding recruitment.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Which players are these?}

08 Aug 2017 10:58:56
Currently Sandro and Danilo from this window. Or is that wide of the mark?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I am not going to give you any detail about Sandro but Juventus don't want to sell him, so that is hardly the fault of anyone at Chelsea. Danilo was not the player Conte wanted at right back, Antonio Rudiger was as he can cover at centre back as well. Chelsea signed him. Conte wanted Bakayoko over Kessie - Chelsea signed him as well. Conte wants Drinkwater, hence the efforts.}

08 Aug 2017 11:12:50
Thank you. I stand corrected and appreciate you putting me straight.

Is Mr Conte's current frustration to do with something other than simple transfer strategy then? He is cutting a rather dejected figure currently.

Again, I appreciate your time and insight, thank you.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is simply timing - it is very difficult to do things instantaneously. van Dijk is a good example. Conte wants him, it will be difficult at best.}

08 Aug 2017 11:24:15
Thank you Ed002.

Hopefully Marina can pull some rabbits out the hat and make Mr Conte a happy man again. I think he is a fabulous coach so would hate to see him leave. The lack of a an extension to his contract was the first thing that gave me cause for concern.

The twos scouser clowns on Sky giving there "unbiased" views on VvD and Cortenino sale was totally ridiculous.
The player Liverpool want will "definitely" be sold and the player Liverpool don't want to sell will "definitely" be staying for at least another season.
The media are littered with ex Liverpool players giving their views but NEVER taking off their scouser hats!
The comments about RLC from JR were inaccurate and a joke.
Sky should hold their head in shame for putting such rubbish forward as rational views!

08 Aug 2017 10:07:43
JR made reference to RLC as another young player who had left our club.
This wasn't corrected at any stage through the program. The whole of the punditry world is littered with biased scouters. Can I be the only person who is fed up with this?

Agree3 Disagree0

08 Aug 2017 13:07:54
Don't pay attention to Redknapp, he's kind of an idiot. RLC has impressed in preseason for Palace (with a very good performance over the weekend against Schalke) . They've been playing a 343 as well, and he's been deployed in CM, which is his ideal position in my opinion. Hopefully RLC has a great season on loan, as his tremendous talent is unquestionable.

Palmer apparently played extremely well for Huddersfield against Torino on Friday. He's impressed since coming back from injury, and he too could make an impact in the PL. Fingers crossed.
Both are excellent young players with fantastic physical traits and exquisite technique on the ball.

A few more weeks left of the window.

What's people's opinions on what we need and who they'd like to sign?

Personally, I think we need a left back, Right Back, Centre Mid and perhaps a left footed attacker.

Sandro or Bertrand.
Goretzka
Berardi
Aurier or Toljan

Bit of fun guys :)

Believable3 Unbelievable1

08 Aug 2017 09:29:58
At the minimum we need a left back and a CM. I suppose it'll be Drinkwater for CM, which is better than nothing. However, I feel we should indeed push for Goretzka to see if he's really set on joining Bayern next summer or not. Andre Gomes is another one we could look at as Barcelona probably wouldn't mind selling him. Seri is another brilliant option that might very well leave Nice this summer. And hell, Kovacic might even move clubs and he'd be terrific as well.
Sadly we don't seem to have any interest in any of these CMs bar Drinkwater. So Drinky it is.
I don't know about left back. Sandro is a dream player, but he's not coming. Apart from that I don't know whom we're interested in. Dalbert would've been interesting but he's Inter-bound. A guy like Aurier could be very good as he can play both on the right and the left. So yeah, get Aurier in if possible.

Apart from fullbacks and a CM we could maybe use a 3rd striker. But I wouldn't spend too much money on it, so I doubt we'd find someone who's quality. Martial would be fantastic as he can play at both inside forward as well as striker. Again, no interest sadly.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Aug 2017 11:48:05
Right back is a position that 4 players at can cover ( Moses, Azpillicueta, Rudiger and Willian) . CM, ST, LWM (left footed), CAM and CB (maybe) .

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2017 13:24:57
Perhaps not necessarily upgrades or established stars but I'd be happy getting either Grimaldo/ Toljan/ Passlack.
We seem set on Drinkwater but I'd go for Goretzka or Seri.
Another wide forward in either Berardi or Pulisic.
I don't think we need another CB personally. And we're also not interested in the majority of the players but thatts who id go for.
