Just heard a rumour from Chelsea rumours on that frank lampard has signed a contract till 2014. Great news if its true.

I think signing a striker like llorente would make sense. He is not as mobile as other forwards we are looking at but that could be a good thing. In torres we have a striker who runs out wide so a lot of the time the box is empty when crosses etc are coming in. Llorente i believe can negoiate a free transfer in january for the summer which someone of his quality on a free would surely be good buisness. Or even paying a fee to get him in january would make sense. Maybe bilbao would be willing to get 5m for him instead of losing him for free. Eds we have shown interest in fellani but do you see us actually making a bid for him. Regarding managers, i would like mourinho first choice. If not him then klopp from dortmund.

Apparently if we win world club cup and Europa league this yrs we will be first team EVER to win every major trophy possible, that's enough for me to really take Europa seriously and win it

Believable5 Unbelievable3

Europa League is a tournament formerly known as Cup Winner's Cup, which Chelsea has won, already, more than a decade ago. Also the Atletico game in Monaco which we lost this year, and is also sort of a cup, we have won after winning our only Cup Winners Cup. So the only one missing is a World Club Championship trophy. Get it - and we are there.

JG

Lucky I said apparently then and not fact hey

Agree1 Disagree1

Europa league replaced the uefa cup, the CWC was scrapped before well before

Blue john

Agree3 Disagree0

Is it not formally known as the UEFA Cup? UEFA got rid of the Cup Winners Cup prior to the UEFA Cup becoming the Europa League.

Surewould

Agree1 Disagree0

Cup Winners Cup, then UEFA Cup, then Europa League. Difference between those are as big as a difference between a Carling Cup and a Capital One Cup.

In essence it's just a second most important UEFA international club competition. Second, but not totaly obscure, like say Intertoto. Which is scraped by now, too.

JG

Agree0 Disagree5

No, the uefa cup and cup winners cup ran alongside each other, along with the champs league giving three euro competitions. Cup winners cup scrapped, uefa cup later replaced. Totally different

Blue john

Agree3 Disagree0

Look - cup winners cup winner used to play champions cup winner at the end of August in Monaco for a European Super Cup. CWC used to be second most important club competition in Europe. Same as now the winner of Europa League plays the winner of CL.

Europa League is another fail, which will most likely be scrapped by UEFa sooner, rather than later. No we have not won the Europa League, as we have never played in it. But yes we have won the second UEFA competition.

JG

Agree0 Disagree7

Cup Winners Cup was the second most important competition? No it wasn't! Why would you scrap the second most important competition and change the format of, what you're saying, was the third most important competition?

Cup Winners Cup was the original jokers competition of Europe - that's why it was scrapped.

This is a ridiculous discussion to be having on here but honestly, some people have just got to hold their hands up when they're wrong about something!

JG

Googled it - didn't say, "Europa League is a tournament formerly known as Cup Winner's Cup". Should I be looking somewhere else? Unless you're taking about the information you took from Wikipedia about the Cup Winners Cup being the second most prestigious competition? Wikipedia, as we all know, can be updated by anyone and is deffo 100% correct all of the time!!

Hope we show some respect and take the Europa League seriously. Alot of other clubs dont and brand it the Mickey Mouse of Europe but its still a trophy and a big achievement. I for one am happy we are still in a European competition and will see the Blues away more regular now with TV coverage unlike the once in a blue moon Champions League game. Lets get the World Club Championship in the bag and go for the Europa League in Feb onwards, will make an attarctive looking trophy cabinet.

It's being well rumoured that Ancelotti's job at PSG is at risk. If Mourinho did leave Madrid for PSG, would any of you have Ancelotti back? Well, I definitely would, the man has a brilliant football mind and is a true gentleman. Chances of it happening, is zero, purely because of the way the club dismissed him in such a poor manner.

This manager firing cobblers, is going to damage the future of the club, and will put off the top managers coming to us.

Our next manager has to be a long term solution, and must must must be given time.

PR!

Believable4 Unbelievable2

It looks like Gaurdiola wont be joining cant say I am surprised. Mourinho would be the best possible outcome but I think it is a long shot.
I would be happy to see Ancelotti back I thought he was the one manager since Jose who looked like he could bring us consistent success.
He was unlucky in his 2nd season with injuries to key players like Lampard terry essien and Drogba.
Also letting Ballack and Carvalho go that summer and not bringing in adequate replacements undermined him and Wilkins getting sacked all made it very difficult for him, I think the club were nieve to get rid of him then and we have been 2nd best ever since.

Agree1 Disagree1

Cant see any of those managers joining, ancelotti and mourinho wont come back because it would require abramovich accepting he made a mistake. I wouldnt mind someone like Frank Rijkaard if im honest and i think he would come as Chelsea is a bigger role than saudi arabia.

You think Wallace will be a first teamer within a few months of arriving, and Azpillicueta will just warm the bench? He is 18, and a very bright prospect, but I'm doubtful he will be a starter next year. I wouldn't be surprised to see him loaned out personally.

Also Remy? Have you seen him play this year? Terrible to say the least. I don't even think interest from Chelsea remains, could be wrong but from what I've gathered bids will be made for both Schurrle and Bony in January, aswell as either Falcao or Cavani, dependant on whether their clubs will play ball.

Not having a crack mate, just reckon you're off the mark.

Melbourne CFC {Ed002's Note - The man behind the move tells me that Wallace will arrive in the summer but needs to effectively be retrained in defending. He is very much one for the long term.}

Agree6 Disagree0

Thanks for that Ed002, he does very much seem a raw prospect. Very good on the ball, great pace and attacking ability but I can't say I've heard of him dominating defensively, so that doesn't come as a huge surprise. I guess that rules out the possibility of an initial loan next year? Thanks again

Melbourne CFC {Ed002's Note - I would doubt a loan would help him settle either.}

Melbourne cfc a bid for bony i can understand but for schrulle i cant. Dont get me wrong i think.he will become great player and his long range shots are amazing. But from.what i have seen and that is not a lot he seems more of winger/secondary striker and i think we need some one who can lead the line... In your opinion do you think he can become that player?

Agree1 Disagree1

I dont see how you can't understand a bid for Schurrle, when multiple bids were already made in August...? I realise he is more suited as a left winger, but these season he has been playing the lone striker role at Leverkusen for a large portion. I think with the players he would have behind him at Chelsea he could be immense. Think of it more as a false 9. Dropping back and opening up space for Mata, Hazard and Oscar. He also has great technical ability for the quick one two passing would be second nature. He has ability to play off the last defenders shoulder and make extremely clever runs between and behind the lines. He would be a terrific acquisition IMO and much better than Bony.

Bony is more of a Didier Drogba esque player, without the height and first touch. He is very strong but not very technically gifted. Although I'm unsure he would be able to bully defenders in the EPL like he does in Holland. He has a powerful shot on him, but lacks real pace and his ability to make clever runs is questionable. He is a great striker in a lower quality league but think he would find it much much harder in the prem.

All in all I think Schurrle would fit our new system (our attempted system) to a tee. Technically he is what we need, whereas, although I think Bony could do well, he wouldn't complement the players we have.

Thanks mate..... I know multiple bids were made but i was thinking he would not be able to lead the line... i havnt seen him play much.... But the amount of confidence you while talkinh about him i hope we get him... And if we could get falcao/cavani and schrulle it would be amazing....
I also have same concerns with bony i think he can be good plan b if we want to play and put balls in the box.
Manali cfc

Agree1 Disagree1

That's the thing Manali, in all possibility he will be used more as a second choice after the season (if we get him in Jan) and also used as cover on the left. Once/if Falcao/Cavani come in, they will most certainly be first choice. But I think with the type of pass and move mixed with tika taka football we are striving for he would be an excellent signing. So much technical ability, which is previlant in Germany. I just hope Taison ends up at Leverkusen in January, so that they are willing to let him go.

Ya hope they get a replacement andwe get him... And for next season if we have these strikers we will strike fear into other teams and i am really waiting to see a pivot of romeou and de bryune and oscar in front of them.. With these three we can dominate midfield and may be another dm but it looks good
Manali cfc

Agree0 Disagree1

Where is Luis Suarez? :S

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't really understand the bids for Schurle. He's more of a Roomey type. Shoots from deep, like a midfielder, does not play physical. He is certainly not a lone striker. He ain't even a striker in the first place. He would be a great player. But not for Chelsea.

JG

Agree1 Disagree1

We really don't need a 'False 9'. The 3 behind the striker do all the playmaking. We just need someone to hold the ball up when needed, run in behind, make intelligent runs, and PUT THE BALL IN THE BACK OF THE NET.

Tim

Agree0 Disagree0

That is we need Cavani, Tim

JG

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Dec 2012 15:38:49
I didn't say he was a traditional lone striker, he has just been playing a one at times for Leverkusen this season. The only reasons I can see for this, is because of 1) his extremely intelligent runs 2) his ability to put the ball in the back of the net.

I also don't think we need to play a system with a 'false 9', however if Schurrle is brought in, this is where he would be used most effectively. On quick breaks he can make runs past the defensively line and receive the ball in a one v one situation, due to our attacking mids ability to pass. During build up play he can drop back, receive the ball and make space for the attacking mids. Something which is extremely important JG, no matter if you think we just need someone to hold up play, make runs and score.

To break down teams that 'park the bus' it is not simple to just hold up the ball, bring others into play and get a clear cut shot off. We need an intelligent striker that can make space for our genius mids, something Barca do extremely well against teams that 'park the bus'. If you haven't realised we often suffer from teams getting 10 men behind the ball and holding shape. Unless you have a moment of extreme brilliance you can often find yourself having a lot of build up play with no end product. With a player coming towards the mids to receive the ball, and creating pockets in behind them, players with top class passing ability can pick a man out running into that space more times than not.

He isn't my first choice, but he would be an excellent option IMO.

If Chelsea are to stick with Torres until the summer then they need to bring in Remy to support him, im sure if he comes in he will create alot of oppurtunities for Torres in the box. If they are ready to replace him then the only option is cavani, huntelaar or falcao but is there any chance of these coming so soon as next month? Also is Taison still a target?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

There is a club called Newell Old Boys in Argentina. It is in a town called Rosario, bloody gorgeous little town in central(ish) Argentina about a 6-8 hr drive from Buenas Aires. Now this small club once had a player by the name of Lionel Messi play with their youth team, I'm sure you've heard stories of him. Some say he is the greatest player ever. Shall we just sign their entire youth set up, as because Messi is such an incredible player, the kids that play their now must also be destined for greatness, yes? This is the logic you have used to judge our new RB Wallace. Yes I know the rest of Messi story, just making a point.

Wallace is an extremely talented fullback, has pace, great vision and passing, and has the potential to be a world beater. He was not bought to play from the outset, but you don't just pass on incredible prospects because you currently don't have a spot in your starting XI for them. He was valued at £10m, as an 18yo. That should say enough about his ability!

To adjudge a player the "greatest" to ever play for us you must take in ability but also the impact he had at the club with the quality of the players around him at the time. Also what we must look at is a player that was unreservedly loved and appreciated by us, the fans.
Whilst I rate many players as legends there can be only one Zola.

Hey Eds or regular readers, I am under the impression that if Chelsea win the Europa league, would we be in champions league or in Europa league next season

Hope the question made sense

BILLY {Ed002's Note - Europa.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Would that still be the case if we finished in the top 3 in the premier league?
Jim132

Agree0 Disagree0

Of course not Jim. Top 4 of PL automatically qualify for CL. Unless a team wins it and finishes outside the top 4, then 4th place is relegated to the Europa, like we finished 6th last year, Tottenham finished 4th, but because we won the CL we qualified and the spuds missed out (glorious!). If we won Europa and finished 3rd, we would have CL football but would also get the play in the Uefa SuperCup.

Us fans need to stop being obsessed by playing our youth players in senior games. If they're good enough, they'll play, for now they're doing fine where they are. Honestly, our under 21 side isn't that great, playing them against a Zenit or Atletico would be like sending lambs for the slaughter.
