I love how everyone wants Varane including me but I just can't see Real Madrid selling him and were better off preparing for life after Terry with Zouma, Ivanovic and Kalas as CB's in my opinion. Madrid would have to be the stupidest people on earth to sell us Varane. The only reason we're not at madrids level is because they've got one of the best players of all time in Ronaldo. I think they'll start him alongside Ramos next season with Pepe being 3rd choice.

IMO the best centre back in the world is Diego Godin and yet no-one mentioned him if we couldn't get Varane as Terry's replacement I'd definately go for Godin.

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea are still interested in Varane - they will sell if they can agree a move for his replacement as I have explained. There is no Chelsea interest in Godin.}

Cheers ed there's no doubt I want Varane at Chelsea but preferably not until Terry retires. If Zouma and Terry make a formidable partnership and lead us to the title which their is a good chance I wouldn't like to see any of them dropped. I'm sure If we signed Varane Zouma would have to be benched.

Isn't Godin almost 30? Varane the longer term option.

when you play a 19 year old like Zouma you're better off playing him with a leader next to him I.e Terry otherwise there's no leadership there. I'd like to see Varane and Zouma together next year but the lack of experience would be a worry.

Age doesn't necessarily equal experience. Varane may be extremely young, but he has a lot of experience. Played in the world cup and a CL final last year. He's played on the biggest stages in the world. He'd do fine.

Sakho looked like a half decent defender next to Varane at the World Cup. If that doesn't sell you I'm not sure what will.

Not sure how that makes Varane better, because Sakho is an excellent defender, yet you seem to be suggesting he only looked half decent next to Varane! Some people really do make the most bizarre comments at times.}

Maybe composed would've been a better word. You can't argue that the sakho we see currently for Liverpool doesn't look as good as the sakho in the French national team.

Just watching Swansea vs southampton, and what a player this Ryan Bertrand is.

Plus, what do people make of Shelvey?

I think Shelvey is relatively gifted, I do however not believe he is good enough for a top 5 team. I think Swansea is a good place for him. It seems like he has a little discipline problem once in a while

Shelvey is developing as a player. He is a good player but is he good enough for Chelsea is still early to say. He has to control his temper.
