Looking forward to Lamps first competitive match as a manager tonight but even more interested in how Mason Mount plays.
This lad is one hell of a talent.

I grew up in Derby after moving from London as a youngster so I'll be keeping a close eye on them this season! Poor first half so far from Derby and Mount has been quiet but early days! Come on Lamps!

Much more entertaining second half, Mount on the scoresheet and then a 94th minute winner after coming from 1-0 down! Not bad.

Lamps and Jodie have taken on a hard job, both teams were poor.
For long periods the game passed Mason Mount by but he got a goal courtesy of their keeper and that’s never a bad thing!

Morata will change his shirt number from '9' to '29' in celebration of his twins. This might just be what he needs considering the number 9 shirt isn't seen as a good luck charm.

He should some sparkle against Inter not so against Arsenal but he could be forgiven as his wife had just given birth and one assumes he was with her. He is talking punchy so let's hope he can deliver. We all agree his movement and heading are excellent but he needs to drop all the play acting and focus on getting the ball in the net.

it might feel like a fresh start for him too.

fresh start😂 a kick up the hole hed want he was embarrassing against arsenal the other i couldn't believe how rubbish of a footballer he was honestly. i always thought he was going to be something special by god he has some job to do if he wants to turn around his fortunes.

I see no reason why Morata won't succeed as a striker. The guy possesses almost all the qualities of a good striker (strong, skillful, good height, pace, even has good looks) ; does almost everything right on the pitch (positions well, good first touch, make good runs) except he needs to work on his finishing (which will come back with his confidence), shot power and a little bit on his stamina which I think will improve as this season progresses. I think he's paying his dues at the moment and definitely come back strong.

04 Aug 2018 19:46:32
why do u think he's paying his dues at the minute? he was an. absoloute embarrasment v arsenal the other night i watched him closely he has no confidence his touch is terrible he was even missing shot hitting fresh air he was like a fella waiting for the ground to swallow him up so he could get d **** outa his cfc nightmare. also people. built barkley up this pre season he was truly awfull against arsenal. he had his hands on his hips after 20 minutes strugglin with d pace come on mate your a professionall footballer how can he not be fit. fabregas was also woefull our midfield was so open it wasnt even funny. id hate to think what would happen if we afford city dat konda space tomorow.

It's looking more and more likely that we'll hold onto our big name players now. Hazard, Kante, Courtois and to a lesser extent Willian.

A few weeks ago this was looking very unlikely, especially with Hazard.

But should we manage to keep these players and add a few quality singings before the window shuts next week. We should be very optimistic and excited for the season ahead under Sarri.

I think we have a good goal scorer in Michy if we give him service he will score it’s the RW position that worries me I hope Hudson-Odoi can make it his own. If we could sign Bailey and offload Willian it would be a very good window for us.

People were saying the same about Matic and Bakayoko last season.
Sarri needs as many experienced players as possible in his first season without having to deal with young players who have no idea how tough the PL can be.
It's going to be hard to make the top 4 this season but a whole lot harder if we bring in more players from outside the PL.

Agree with you Turvey. Extraordinary how many wish to ditch Willian (have wished to ditch him for some time) who is a proven EPL talent -- hence the Barcelona, Man Utd, Real Madrid interest. yes, i expect Bailey would be a good addition too, and a squadc always need strengthening not least ours compared to what Man City, Utd and LFC have lashed out in last couple of seasons, but let Sarri have benefit of experience in squad in his first season and be able to make more informed decisions in less hectic transfer window next summer (or dip into market in January if needed/ exceptional talent on offer) .

I see Pedro has signed for another two years. I think he is Sarri's type of player but he does not last 90 minutes so he will either start or come on as an impact player.

Re. a few posts about Kante and Jorginho playing in the same side.

If we play the same type of system as Napoli did under Sarri then we won't be playing with a defensive midfielder in the traditional sense. Jorginho will be a deep lying playmaker, he will have defensive responsibilities, almost like a sweeper for the midfield, but his main role will be to dictate the pace of our game. Kante will not be playing in his traditional defensive role either, he will be more of a disruptor pressing the opposition deeper and breaking their lines with gut-busting runs forward - this is a role where he, with his energy levels, could really excel.

I think Vecino will, if signed, be very much a squad player, mostly used to pack out the midfield when needed and see out games. This is a role I thought Bakayoko would fill but he is completely shot of confidence and really needs a loan back to France or Italy where he'll have more time in games to re-build his confidence.

Bakayoko will be the backup of the backup- I guess, just can't explain what's happening to Bakayoko. Honestly before now I saw him as a player that can potentially replace Kante. He looks like he has given up and doesn't want to fight. I feel for him.

The key issue is who will be the third midfield player because if it's Cesc we will have two players who don't track counter attacks.
I have hardly seen Jorghino make a tackle in three games something he will need to improve drastically .
I think we are going to have problems with no proven goalscorer and a weaker defensive unit than last season.

Totally agree Turvey, it will be down to Barkley and Loftus-Cheek to step up, and into, the more advanced role.

I have been impressed with Barkley so far in pre season and he definitely has the edge at the moment, but needs to get match fit and I can see Loftus-Cheek coming more. and more into the team. If Loftus-Cheek applies himself he could be absolutely amazing in this team.

Overall I think we can expect a season not that dissimilar to Peps first year at Man City. W.

I watched arsenal game at times we looked electric for me worries are. Midfield if Barckley can step up. The poor form of Bakayoko. Defensively I worry about luis. For most of the game he’s on it and fine. But he switches off then we have problems. Also very disappointed with Emerson thought he was particularly poor. I expected him to step up this year.
As for Morata he’s started how he finished last year. Lots of effort and no end product. He’s scores pen or any of the other 3 good chances we have and it’s game over.
So imo we need another striker, trouble is all talk is of bats and Gironde being sold. I don’t think Abraham’s is ready yet a bit to lightweight.

I would agree with your example of a similar season to Peps first at City J. BUT they had Aguero scoring 20 in the league and 33 in all.
Despite that and all the other attacking talent they finished 3rd.

Fantastic post J and not for the first time.
I obviously want us to be crowned Champions again but am viewing it as a translation season, so I will be happy ish with a top four finish!

I wouldn't hold your breath mate. Don't be surprised if that is it for us in the transfer market but I expect 1 or 2 new additions. We haven't signed the players that we were linked to for one reason or another. Higuain, Caldara and Rugani have either moved (Milan) or won't move.

However, a goalkeeped is expected and maybe that is Jack Butland, latest rumours suggest a 30m offer is required.

We could yet sign any of the following players so it's not done yet;

Vecino
Rugani
Marial (depends on Willian)
Zaha

But 1 thing for sure Hazard and Kante are going nowhere. Getting them to sign contracts would be huge. Alvaro Morata will be staying too, I know he gets a lot of stick here from most of the posters but I'm with the club with on this one and I'm am sure he will turn it around.

However, one must remember that we have different manager now. We have a squad full of quality. Some of these players may have been ineffective under Conte's tactics given his defensive approach, same with Jose. Not all the players can adapt to defensive tactics and some flourish under attacking tactics, e. g. Salah, KDB etc. However, with a different manager who is more possession based could mean that players like ke Willian, Pedro, Morata, Fabregas, Baka etc are all reformed and maybe the different philosophy gets them more adapted than to Conte's philosophy and if this happens then they could be viewed as new additions. The work he done at Napoli witj Mertens and a few others is a good example. However, patience is key, it won't happen over night. Time will be needed.
