I have to say that I am worried with the calibre of player we are being linked with. It indicates a few things for me:

-The club no longer have the ambition to compete for the elite talent in the market.

-The excuse given for this is that they are overpriced and we have to comply with the rules.

-It is a sellers market, the buying club dictates the price, but we seem to be going down the Arsenal route of a football club being run like a bank where we think we can dictate to buying clubs the price we are going to pay. If we don't pay, some one else will, our loss.

-After the season we have just had, I expected the club to be determined to put things right and make sure this does never happen again by getting rid of who needed to go and bring in the best players we can get to improve us and show our intent not by words, but by actions. Nothing has happened and there seems to be an ambivalent attitude towards the situation.

-This is not the club we were twenty years ago, we have to be ambitious and compete at the highest level again. Our lack of action does not correlate with the club's philosophy of on pitch success being the most important.

-If we are in a similar situation next season of struggling to qualify for Europe, there can be no complaints, a coach is not magician, they must be backed and one would of thought with Guardiola and Mourinho presenting substantial obstacles to success, the club would have backed Conte to the hilt and showed their ambition to put things right and have us right up there with those two.

-If thing goes south under Conte, remember this. Players like Hazard back in 2014 would have seen Fabregas, Costa and Courtois come in and think "wow, this is a club that means business". What do you think our best players will think if they see players come in who are not going to improve the team or who are not as good as them. They will want out, a top team surrounds player like Hazard with players who are his equal, we are not doing that, not even close and we will pay for it by losing our best players if it continues.

-I hate saying things like this but I am just annoyed by the club's reluctance to compete for elite players despite being in position to do so.

-I will probably be told that I have no understanding of football, I don't care. You do not have to be a formula one driver to appreciate a ferrari.

-I will probably be told that I am not "Chelsea", again, could not give a toss. I am not going to sit back and accept being second best.

-In what is the most important transfer window since Roman took over, I expected the club to be as determined as ever to put things right and have us competing with the best again, in every aspect, despite not being in the champions leagueSo far, it appears to club are indifferent to it all and think a new coach will solve all our issues.

-This feels like last year all over again except we are not Champions and are not in Europe at all, so we have to pay a premium that the club appears to have no desire to do. It is disappointing to say the least.

-Give the youth a sustained chance then and accept that we are no longer going to compete for few years. We are in a no mans land, stuck between giving youth a chance, buying inadequate players and expecting to compete for every competition which we are in. It does not match up.

Trouble is things are different, yes we had a poor season and we are not in Europe. That in itself takes certain players out of our range as they won't come to non champs league team. Also I'm sorry to say I disagree on paying over the odds for players. Why would you pay figure banded around for lukaku 65 million, I think not.

This is an important window and I think the club will buy a CB, cm, and striker but won't be held to ransom.
I also want the business done early, the club will not make the same mistakes as last year, we are not arsenal in that respect.
So I think we need to be patient, not the easiest thing I know.

Calm down man don't worry. We are being linked to sign at least one top quality striker, cm and cb and I think the club probably will sign them too, and not all players can sign for Man U or city they aren't going to snap up every good player we want. It's not June for another 10 minutes (as I type) so let's stop panicking and just see how everything lies in a few months before we decide to go into a crisis.

Targeting Pogba is a lack of ambition then? Window hasn't even opened yet, chill, the club will do all they can :)

Not every top quality player costs a lot, look at hazard who was I think £30m. Suarez to Liverpool £25m. The problem with our club is not identifying talent, it's actually giving them a chance to prove their worth. It angers me still that we let KDB and Lukaku leave, but if mourinho was not manager I think they would still be at the club. There are players out there that would make us a better TEAM other than bringing in a good individual. We have to buy players that are not only good but at the right price and also suit the style of Chelsea's football.

I agree in a way in what your saying we seem to be linked to the greatest players big names then we won't pay and we go for someone similar but not as good and now we have a team full of ok players in my eyes ( bar a few ) and other teams round us just get stronger I no the eds have said the club won't be held to ransom and we will not pay over the odds but we need to man up and realise if we won't to be in on all trophies we need to, look Leicester did it on a low budget last year do u think they will not try and strengthen there will be money spent there this year, we didn't really do that after we won the league last year and look were we are and if we don't this year WELL let's see were we end up. Ok we spent money but again on ok players, if we are not going to compete big in the market then give the youth ago but again to me I do see a lot of the youth games and again very good some of them but first team again my opinion not ready and there's a lot of people saying give youth ago I would say do it but I think you will be happy to see January 1st if we do. BUT like I said if we're not going to involved big give it ago. I understand as well that we need to stay within rules and regulations and we owe a lot to RA and he's put up there with the best there just seems to be a different Approach to transfers these last few years we use to frighten teams away now we're the ones that seem to be running. Again it's early and the manager hasn't started work yet plenty of time just seem to understand what the first poster is feeling.

We are pushing hard for Pogba and Higuain - I don't think that smacks of lack of ambition! Pogba won't come to us but Higuain just might.

A question for ED02 please. Could you please give an idea on what positions Chelsea are looking to recruit in? Not names just position. Any help would be much appreciated.

{Ed002's Note - Assume all positions then I won't be hounded from page to page.}

Hello ed. I don't mean to twist your words but could we assume from your response to this question that Chelsea hold an interest or are in talks with Juventus regarding Lichtsteiner? Many thanks.
