Very strange i think, new manager already in place and doesn't want jt influence in the dressing room, maybe was an influence in jose departure? Cahill not up to it . zouma to early. next captain? Brana new contract. captain leader legend, no contract, all very strange .

My honest feeling is that if the club want to sign a marquee CB ( ala Marquinos/ Varane) they need to move Terry on as I don't see any top class CB signing whilst JT is still at the club as they'll want to be no 1. Whilst he obviously reads the game so well, his legs (which never were quick) have gone as evident against a poor MK in Cup.
A big part of Chelsea's restructure and bringing through youth relies on JT being gone imo.
As for future captain, it has to be someone who is first on the teamlist. There are three Willian (too early) Courtous (sorry spelling, too young yet and gk) and my pick Dave, however depending on our new manager a real wildcard maybe Costa, his work rate (off the ball, tracking back, and back to being a top class striker again) has been sensational in the last couple of games. If that passion could be channeled as the leader of our team rather than against the opposition (which has been the case) he could be great. We talk about JT having the passion for the club which made him so successful, Costa has passion too just needs to be moulded. Of the others Matic is the only one I see improving with the captaincy possibly.

Regarding JT- my heart says no but my head says the right decision. He will forever be a a personal hero, Chelsea legend and a major part of club history, but every player must move on with time. I would rather have memories of Terry still being fully involved in these last two seasons scoring goals, winning silverware and being a rock rather than see him fade to being a bit-part player who (being honest) struggles badly against pacey players.

It is time for Zouma, Christensen, Miazga, Clarke-Salter and maybe even Kalas to start making themselves regulars and forging a reputation. I suspect Cahill will leave in the summer- almost a guarantee if Conte or Guardiola comes in.

I think we will spend big this summer, bringing in a few major names and seeing some major departures. We will miss JT leadership wise certainly, but now it is time for someone else to step into his shoes, and they now have half a season to find that someone- be it Ivanovic, Matic, Courtois or Fabregas or someone completely different.
Thanks for the memories John- perhaps a polat figure off the pitch but the best CB in Premier League history on it. Your legacy will live on and I know one day yourself, Lampard, Drogba and maybe even Cech will be back.

Lovely post cfc. One thing I won't be able to stomach is the press now being nice about Jt, and criticising the club, after all the bad press directed to him and his family over the years.

Personally if Cahill is leaving in the summer then I'd prefer it if Terry stayed. Even if we signed Marquinhos/ Stones/ Varane etc we could have a Zouma/ Marquinhos partnership with Terry and Christensen as back-up.

02 Feb 2016 05:01:22
Sorry Fuser but have to disagree! JT would never be happy being back up and would have them all thinking they're #2. Time to go for JT, he'll one day be back, like Super frank and Drogs will be, but for now, at the end of the season, he has to go, so the club can move on.

Extremely disappointed to say the least that John Terry's contract is seemingly not being renewed. Truly appalling handling of the situation from the club, yet again. One thing is certain, the supporters will let the club know what they think.

Considering his experience and leadership, two attributes not widely associated with this current crop of players, it is even worse.

The fact that we currently have no better defender, literally, at the club, compounds it for me. What is the plan to replace him?

The most likely outcome based on recent activity is that we will penny pinch for another inept centre half such as Djilobodji while watching the best options such as Stones go to join the latest FFP free 100m investment surge at Citeh, compliments of "Etihad Airways", Marquinhos going to Barcelona or whoever coughs up enough for him. It is a truly diabolical succession strategy. We are a football club, not a bank.

This decision might be the last straw for some supporters, giving Benitez the job, removing Mourinho and, probably having to downgrade in order to appoint a new manager due to being seen as an inferior proposition than sides such as Citeh, and we had a five year head start on them, don't forget.

Not giving Terry a contract combined with the utterly bizarre lack of ambition in the market to replace Terry, JT even apparently said "maybe they will sign one or two world class centre halfs" in a deadpan manner, all confirms to me that it seems, the lunatics are running the asylum and that the owner should not be trusting some of the people he is as we are falling behind with every poor decision we make.

Although I too am disappointed to see his contract not being renewed, we don't really know what's going on behind the scenes. For all we know it might have been his own decision, he's not had the best season, so he might have decided to end his Chelsea career while he's still considered one of the best defenders in the league.

No offense Chelea00, but half your post seems very naive especially regarding transfers. Ed002 has mentioned that we're interested in Stones and Marquinhos and come the summer we'll likely look at a few others. I'm sure the club are doing everything within their power to acquire high quality players, but that doesn't mean we will get them. This isn't play ground football where you point at a player and boom they're on your team.
The summer transfer window was poor due to the board's belief that we didn't need serious reinforcements and other clubs wanting too much for their players (Pogba, Stones, Griezmann) . This January window has been lackluster as January is always a hard month to acquire quality players, our league position and the fact that we don't have a permanent manager. The last thing the club want to do is waste money going out and buying a player that the new manager won't want in 6 months time.
Also finally, atm the club haven't offered JT a new deal but when we've signed a permanent manager they could want Terry for another year.

Gutted about Terry who is gunna take up the captaincy from him. He should be kept even if he's not playing much just to be round the younger players guiding them. Hope the club have a good predecessor to him almost an impossible task.

Does free up wages for another player. Hopefully Drogba will be back for his influence with the younger players. Time for Cahill to step up to the plate, might explain Ivas contract extension, and the intention to play him next to Zouma or Cahill next year. I am sure Jt will be back to the club with lampard in the future in coaching capacity. Gives him a chance to earn some money in the states or America before he retires,

It's disgusting the greatest player in the clubs history is not afforded the opportunity to retire on his own terms at the club he loves and with the fans that love him. No manager no direction for the club now no leader and captain and not one candidate fit to take up the mantle.

Win or lose up the blues, no candidate will stand out until he is gone! Now is the time for him to go, whilst he still has his dignity in place. Iva (imo) has an extenstion so as we can get some money for him in the summer. He will be sold before the start of the next season. Ramires (extended, sold) Mikel (extended, will be sold next summer), sorry mate but you need to realise that these guys have became multi millionares at this club, its a business that is results driven, and future results will not be pretty with JT still here, as he's no longer good enough.
We all thought last year (as the pundits did) won it, will be right there again, sooo wrong, cause we didn't move on and relied on older/ ageing players to "do it all over again" . Epic fail!
Baba Rhamen was bought last year, played great against MK Dons, but you know what, has never been tested against prem opposition (as he can't get a start), who actually knows what his defensive abilities are, cause he can't get a run cause we play an aging slow Ivanovich at RB which forces our best (and natural right side defender) to play LB .
My point here is that, at EPL level you play players that fill that position and can play that position and deliver.

Always likely to be a training game and so it transpired so difficult to take too much away from the game. However, DID Fabregas play? Terry was booked because Rahman was out of position again. On the ball Loftus- Cheek is a very good player but as Mourinho said his play off the ball is poor, he ambles about and we have enough trouble with Fabregas doing that. i know it will upset Traore fans but at the moment and possibly always he is too light weight for PL football. Very interesting to see who we field for our next game.

31 Jan 2016 18:18:47
Thought fabregas was good, just did what he had to do, sat deeper and hit long passes, I assume according ro instructions. Very poor opposition but we dominated 90 mins and could have scored 10 or more. No complaints.

Agree0 Disagree2

31 Jan 2016 18:35:25
You can only beat who is in front of you. Total dominance for 90 mins will do the team wonders. Hazard getting a goal, Traore scoring, loftus cheek getting 90mins. Fabregas played well because he was allowed to, most premiership teams press high which is why he has struggled this season. Good attacking performance from Rahman. Dave doesn't offer what Rahman did today, but offers a lot more defensively. Would be interested to see Dave and Rahman on each side of defence.

Exellent performance all round. Fabregas back to his best and dominating games. RLC did ok and will get better with time. Traore is a fantastic talent and will be a great addition up front, offers so much more than Remi. Sad to hear JT announce he is leaving at the end of the season though.

Surprised where rlc played today. Would prefer him deeper and breaking forward.

01 Feb 2016 02:05:56
Think part of the reason he's played further forward is his laziness without the ball. Imagine him playing as a CM and him not tracking back at all.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2016 07:34:10
Thought exactly the same. For a kid who wants to become a regular in the team. He should be busting his balls, chasing everything down. Jose was right about him, he's lazy. He'll be another Josh McEachran. Few games and then off to lower league.

Paul Ince, Shearer etc there goal showed no bollocks to tackle or block that shot matic is supposed to be a holding midfielder and turns his back on the ball. Its things like that is why we are where we are. On a positive some really nice footy being played. Hopefully get another early goal then Traore should get some minutes hopefully be good for Ruben to get 90 also.
