I fear another long hard season fighting for 3rd or 4th. We have some very good young players but too many passengers who just don't care and are far to inconsistent. I have seen more life in road kill than in mikes and mere illness put together

I just don't understand the reasoning behind sending him on loan to Real Madrid...If he is good enough for Madrid, he is good enough for our starting 11...

Jose is a big fan PR and it gets him off the wage bill. Only reason I can see why we would agree is that we have plans for Romeu this year.

Wow, done some research. In 2009, 3 years ago, Radamel Falcao was signed by Porto from River Plate for only £2m. 2 Years later they sold him for £35m. (Porto know how to make a profit, haha). 3 Years after that move to Porto he is regarded as arguably the best striker on the face of the earth with a priice tag in the region of £50m. Found this rather interesting. :)

It is also no coincidence that our best performance came when Mireles was in the midfield in the place of Lampard when we were playing Newcastle.
The commentator who was obviously a CFC hater was having a field day.He literally mocked us and even said" Chelsea have been put in their place today" and that all our results are a fluke.

Watching RDM interview on Chelsea tv and he says he is happy with Torres and Sturridge as forwards. In that case why do we play Sturridge RW if he's classed as a striker.
Why play lampard CDM when he's CAM. Why play betrand LW when he's a LB. why bring Oscar on today LW when he is CM. why are we trying to keep certain players on the pitch and pushing other players out of position, that's why at times we look so poor. Too many players are forced out of position to keep the old guard in. If where going to freshen things, then let's go all out. Oscar, hazard, betrand,Sturridge,Moses, romeu lets put them out there and see them play. I'm actually looking forward to the league cup game v wolves as I think the young players that we have can give us better football.

1. Not one is an out and out striker

I sincerely hope RDM realizes that Ramires is not a rm.Lampard is not fit to start .
The gap between our midfield and defense is huge and their attacking midfielders , wingers and striker were running for fun at our defense.
Falcao played well but the chances he got were fairly easily. He showed that is is a top class finisher but the he is not the man to solve our problem.
The passing was downright pathetic especially from Lamps,Ramires and Ivan.
The ball was passed only three or four times to Torres in the whole first half.Hazard also did not see much of the ball.
Lampard attempted to shoot whenever the ball reached him in the opposition half and only made half assed long pathetic passes to the front two.
I fell sorry for Torres when he had to come deep into our half to receive the ball and that too against his old team.
No wonder he stated committing fouls and was running all over the pitch in order to receive the ball.
RDM tactics were very poor as he did not change the set up even when it was quite evident from the very first minute that Adrian was ripping us apart on the right hand side. Falcao might have have scored the goals but it was Adrian that was the real menace as he was the one who was creating space for Falcao to score.
Mikel does not know how to tackle.Ivanovic had his worst Chelsea game.
I think the result was good in a way that some people will realize that central midfield is the real problem and stop blaming Torres for all our problems.
The slow passing allowed Athletico to get back in numbers and mark out our two main threats Torres and Hazard.
Play Oscar regularly in place of Lampard the boy will do wonders.Moses should start in place of Ramires on the right and Essien in place of Mikel.

Believable5 Unbelievable2

31 Aug 2012 22:09:19
The past few games have shown that mikel is quite adequate to step into a more box to box role as he seems a lot more technically sound than he was before.

I have always loved essien and sadly he is not the player he was but what he showed at the end of the last season was that he is perfectly placed in an anchor man role. Today showed that chelsea are very vulnerable to a good team's counter attack and without a ball winner cutting out those attacks will be swarmed at every attempt. For this reason he and romeu are necessities for the coming season.

Personally I think lampard is past his best and although stats his stats always say otherwise, a central midfield spot in a good team can not be filled with a world class penalty taker that contributes little at best.

-We were to eager to start off with and committed to many men forward and the pace of the athletic players picked us off.

-Torres wasn't shire weather he wanted to play for athletico or for chelsea as he is athletic fan as he said the nutter!

-2nd Half just felt we should've pushed back our FB's and brought on Moses and Sturridge for Ramires and Torres rather that Oscar.

-I would've like to have seen us change our shape a little bit second half.

-Oscar should've come on a little bit later in the game for mikel while we had possible momentum.

-And last but not least"Falcao is top drawer"Athletico can have Torres back any day give us Falcao Mr.Abramovic!!

But don't worry gentleman we have a young developing team this is a good learning curve early on in the season for both the players and the manager.

All this talk about Falcao and other strikers what we need is a coach. If we had Falcoa today IMO we still would be losing, RDM is just not a good coach. If any player is completely ignoring the game plan and doing his own thing then take him off if he won't listen, otherwise we can assume what we saw in that 1st half is what he thought would work.

If we fans have been saying Ramires is wasted as a winger and not effective there why can't the professional coach who studies game film see it.

Why can't he see that the holding pairing of Lampard and Mikel does not work and Ivan who is not a true RB struggles against pace.

Why is it that our starting 11 only has 1 player that wasn't on the sqaud from last year that struggled to score or keep posession.

I know a lot of u apologists for RDM will talk about D. Luiz's mistakes and JT not playing but this is the bottom line, Athletico's back 4 is not better than ours but they have a better game plan and have more creative and athletic midfield players on the pitch to prevent them being exposed. And the sad truth is that we have good players sitting on the bench.

I thought RDM was making progress last week when he saw the danger of Ben Arfa comming and put Bertrand on his side to help contain him, however a good coach is consistent especially in 1 match for a trophy.

IMO it doesn't matter who joins if RDM can't field the best sqaud. A few Chelsea supporters noticed some of these things during the summer as well as his lack of adjustment/sub when Ivan went off in the community shield but the early wins off Hazzard's heroic efforts drowned out those voices.

My only guess is that Ramires picked up an injury. One of Lampard or Mikel should of been taken of for oscar and ramires should of dropped back into a holding role. Lampard was very poor, offered nothing going forward and was often caught too far up the pitch.

A team gets at least one embarrassing result every year. I suppose we can take solace in the fact that this was an unimportant game that means very little overall. Still very disappointed though.

How can we be critical on an individual scale. Lets look at the whole team as football is about working as a team. Which is why we shouldn't beat up Chelsea tonight. A team that has had a lot of changes made to it will suffer against the better of teams. This is certainly a transitional stage and the introduction of such quality signings will not make it an easy ride straight from the off. Lets not forget that we are only five games into the season.

---------------------------Cech-------------------------
-----Azpillicueta-----Terry----Luiz----------Cole---------------Ramires--------Oscar-------Mikel-------------------Mata------------Torres----------Hazard-------

I have chosen to opt for 4-3-3. This is because I just feel having three attacking midfielders is too much. Hopefully this will add more balance but not losing out on attacking flare. Torres up front with Hazard and Mata along side him on the wings. Oscar as CM replacing Lampard as I have not been impressed with him. He will I am sure get forward and I have liked bits of his game today. Ramires on RCM and Mikel LCM. Mikel hasn't been too bad today perhaps I haven't been totally focused on individual mistakes but the whole team. To be honest I think we should look at this line-up as a serious consideration as it has more balance particularly focusing on defensive play with this which was certainly lacking in quality tonight.

My ratings for the game:

Cech - 6 - Conceded a lot, but also made 4 or 5 good saves and was only beaten by sheer class and a lack of protection.

Cole - 4 - What did he do? Not the usual troublemaker on the over-lap and always left stuck on the counter.

Cahill - 5 - Better of the two CBs (which isn't saying a lot). Poor positionally and slow to press.

Luiz - 4 - Generous. Too many loose passes, caught out of position constantly and a bit of a liability. Needed Terry's leadership.

Ivanovic - 3 - Caught on the break continuously, leaving Cole, Cahill and Luiz exposed. Slow and lumbering. Bossed by Turan's movement.

Lampard - 4 - Non-existent. Not even a hard-working display. Hasn't showed up AGAIN in a big game, showing age.

Mikel - 5 - At least he made tackles. Still slow and lacking and imagination. Dead wood in the middle. Still unconvinced.

Mata - 5 - Comfortable enough in possession, as expected. Not allowed to pick the spaces and passes he usually does due to a static front line.

Hazard - 6 - Exciting when he got it. Tried hard all game. Our best outfield player.

Torres - 3 - Little movement and service. Couldn't hold anything up. Looked uninterested at times. Frustrating evening.

Ramires - 3 - I would have taken him off at half time too. Him and Ivanovic constantly caught out. No flair or show of pace that we usually see.

SUBS

Oscar - 5 - Showed a more physical side to his game that gave me hope his lightweight frame will be fine in the PL. Shame he came on to the biggest of uphill battles.

These might seem harsh to some, but I was so disappointed to see a side so compact and strong at the end of last season dismantled like we were. So slack at the back an in imaginative and predictable up top. Not what we needed after such a positive league start. We needed JTs leadership and I hope they all get a right boll****ng tonight.

60 mins in and we have been terrible. Just a few thoughts on our squad from me, not everyone will agree but here goes.
Torres: never going to get back his Liverpool form no matter how much we all hope. He works far to hard, running around like a headless chicken. Tracking back all the way to our defensive areas. For example tonight's game falcao doesn't look like he has broken into a sweat but yet he's got 3 goals Upto now( 60 mins). He rarely chases out wide never mind back to defend.
Ramires: possibly one of our two best players last year with mata but yet he's pushed out wide where lets be honest he's awfull. If we keep the 4-2-3-1 he needs to be in before lampard and mikel as a CDM who at times can run forward using his pace coming from deep.
Mata: player of the year last season playing LAM so we put him in the hole behind Torres. Which I believe should be hazards position as he has more strength. A lot of the time mata gets crowded out and pushed off the ball. He is still a great player but would love to see him back LAM.
Luiz: at times great, but more often than not I agree with Gary Neville, he looks like someone is controlling him with a playstation pad.
Lampard: great player over the years but cannot justify playing him on his stature at the club. He is a CAM and if that means less playing time then so be it.
Ivanovic: poor game today but on the whole has been turned into a decent RB.
Terry: lacks pace but we look a lot more solid with him at the back with Cahill.
Cahill: has come in from Bolton and not put a foot wrong for me.
Ashley cole: never seen him have a bad game.
Mikel: squad player for me, hasn't lived up to the hype when he was younger.
Sturridge: gets a lot of abuse from fans on here but yet everyone supports Torres. At the end of the day he's a chelsea player so get behind him and let's give him his chance down the middle. He has more movement than Torres and also a good finish.
Hazard: class
Merieles: not good enough
Essien: if only he could get back to his best.
Betrand: looks an excellent young player.
Oscar,Marin,Moses:all look decent players.

What I'm trying to say is lets not expect miracles from these players straight away. Tonight's game at the end of the day is just a glamourised friendly. Would of liked to see us sign another forward and maybe a holding midfielder but it's not championship manager. But I think a lot of this post is because I can see how talented most of the squad is and certain players ate just not up to the same standard. Comments are welcome but remember these are just my views.

NWBLUE

Believable1 Unbelievable1

I agree on most of what you say.
But i think you really underestimate Oscar he looked as one of the best players after he came on. He made the the runs behind players which noone else did on left side (tho they didnt pass it to him) also he makes the most simple and best passes we could ask for he just needs to get adjusted he havent played alot maybe around 90m now.

I do like Lampard but he just dosent cut it he is clearly not good enough for this sort of play style, he needs to be benched he is 34 and should be happy to be a squad player. Instead i would prefer having Bertrand to play together/instead of Mikel depending if we get a DM player, he does need a little time to get used to going more forward that he usualy do.

Defensiv i just think we should stop playing Luiz hes making to many mistakes. Hopefully we can have Cesar as RB and Cahill/ivanovic in the middle instead of Terry cuz i really think he is getting too slow.

Sadly i dont think Torres wil cut it, he runs around all the time defending trying to get the ball by falling back instead of staying and trying to make runs behind the defender for a pass.

And as it is i think we need to get rid of the old guard i dont think they're good enough for such play style we are trying to do, it gets far to slow. Im 100% sure if Guardiola comes (which i hope) he wil bench them and find new and better players.

Agree0 Disagree1

Torres did not receive the ball all through the first half when he was playing on Godin's shoulder. He looked like a headless chicken running around all over the pitch in the second half as he had to come deep in order to receive the ball that is how bad our passing was and Falcao did not look to break a sweat as he he received the ball with lots of time and space. For god's sake he,Hazard and Oscar were the only one who atleast tried to win the ball.
roan

Agree0 Disagree0

My problem really with Torres is not his ability but he works too hard. Do not do the midfielders job and stay on the last man. Don't drift out wide as your the one striker. If he wins the ball deep, then who can he pass forward to because there's no one there.

Everyone's raving about signing Falcao, and whilst I'd love him to sign for us we need a CDM as that's where our weakness is. We're not bossing the midfield, our passing has been poor and tackling non-existent. Would much rather CDM atm than a striker.

A few Chelsea supporters noticed some of these things during the summer as well as his lack of adjustment/sub when Ivan went off in the community shield but the early wins off Hazzard's heroic efforts drowned out those voices.

what a embaressement for Chelsea. we have MAJOR problems in both ends!

Noone is trying to make runs behind the defensive players, Mata,Ramires and especially the " im better than ever Torres" - They just stand still and expect the ball to be played to their feets without the opponents interupt, this is not acceptable and wont work against better teams like AM.

Lampard run around clueless dont defend with Mikel or attack just plays the balls around, he should have been replaced 15min's in for Oscar which is a great at making runs behind the defensve, great passes etc. If lampard dosent play better he shouldnt play at all, i know hes the "old guard" but its just not good enough. i always liked the guy but far from just having he on to letting the team down.

I dont know what to say about the defenders? They dont sprint back when they lose the ball, they arrive then the ball is in the back of the net. They look like they've never played together or is 40 years old.

i would love to have Falcao but somehow i doubt he wanna come now :D

This is based on First half against AM, whats your toughts?

Lampard,Ramires,Luiz and Ivanovic are having shockers. The big problem is Lampard ,his passings has been poor ,more often than not he is alongside Torres and hence out of position and we are being caught out time and again in the middle and wide areas.Mikel cannot tackle.Torres and Hazard looking frustrated as they cannot receive passes.
Falcao although has scored three goals has been given loads of time and space to finish and he has been up to the task.
Signing Falcao ,another striker is not the solution as the big problem is in midfield Lampard and Mikel to be exact. They have absolutely no control of the midfield ,it happened against Wigan and Reading and is happening now.
We do not have any width what so ever and therefore are being easily cut out in the middle with our not so great passers in the midfield.
Falcao has had five clear cut chances and has scored three whereas Torres has had none. That stat alone speaks volumes about our real problem.
roan

Believable4 Unbelievable0

U are right about us not having any width,ho can we when our only true right winger is on the bench. Ramires, who is not good there keeps going inside and inviting our RB to come down and pass it to Athletico for a 4 on 3 break.

Just watched the first half and I have to say I am more than disappointed. We offered nothing going forward and defensively we were really poor. The start of the season we were going to be challenging in 7 competitions, but unless we improve our performance against stronger opposition, I can only see us winning the FA cup or Capital One cup. I know some may say that it's a bit early to be so cynical about our chances, but we will really need to work on our defence if we're going to compete against elite clubs. All the goals so far could have been avoided if we defended properly.

No defence could have dealt with him tonight. Get Oscar on for Lampard who is too slow, move ramires in alongside Mikel and push the line back! Pass the ball to Torres to let him turn and try to run at the defence! Keep the defence low and tight and mark Falcao/Adrian out of it!

Yeah !blame Torres as always Falcao has had five great chances to score and has put in three.Torres has had none, not even a sniff.

Athletico Madrid paid about 45m Euros for him and he's improve since then so they definitely wouldn't accept anything less than 50m. Which would leave us with at least one £50m signing on the bench at one point.

Kakuta gone to Vitesse, whispers from a source in Berlin claiming Schurlle has handed in a transfer request and various French journalists saying Remy wants to join us. The Essien stuff is bull, Everton had a loan bid rejected but I can't see him going. Still maybe time for us to win the Supercup and thrash out a deal with Falcao afterwards ;) we live in hope eh?
Anyway, even if we sign no-one, this is one of the best windows I have seen, Hazard, Oscar, T. hazard, Marin, Moses, Azpilicueta, Musonda. So many amazing young players coming through, come on Chels!!

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Well according to some spanners on here thorgan hazard was brought to help eden 'settle in' not because hes a future talent

but i made a post similar to this earlier saying im happy with the transfer window

curt

Agree0 Disagree1

He is not helping Eden settle, especially seeing as we sent him back to Belgium on loan. Its not like Eden needed Thorgan when he was at Lille. We bought Thorgan because he is a good prospect. If he develops into as good as a player as his brother then we have got a bargain, if not he will at least be a good squad player or we can easily recoup the £1mil we bought him for.

I for one would rather give Piazon and Sturridge extra game time if we are not going for a player of the quality of Hulk or Cavani. Remy does not seem a significant improvement considering he will cost around £15mil and given the time to develop I can see both Sturridge and Piazon surpassing him in ability.

Torres, Schurrle, Piazon, Moses will be the striking options this season. Schurrle, Piazon and Moses can all play somewhere in the supporting 3 too. Decent flexibility and options. I prefer the signing of Schurrle to Hulk and Cavani. He is younger and has big sell on value in 4/5 years whereas Hulk and Cavani in 4/5 years will be 30/31 years with far less sell on value. would everyone be happy if we dont sign anyone today ?

yes we need a back up striker but if sturridge does stay he will be enough until january

on the bright side we signed one of the biggest and sort after players in europe at the moment in eden hazard (dont know why i needed to name him) we also got a great steal with marin and very talented young right back in azpilicuetta a also very talented right winger in moses (something we have lacked for years) and also an up and coming future star of the game in thorgan hazard

personally i think we have done very well and including the youngsters we have ready to come through the youth system our future is very bright indeed and the future of football is deffinately blue

all we need in january is a striker and perhaps a defensive midfielder because if romeu starts playing and playing well i can see barca activating the buy back clause however with mikel progressing game by game we may well be ok with him there

finally next summer (yes i know im thinking far ahead) i think all we would need is a natural left winger to give us different options during games and arguably a covering centre back because terry isnt getting younger

would love everyones opinions (only if you have something to say that has anything to do with the topic)

I reckon Chelsea have been playing their cards very close to their chest, if Rogers is very confident of getting Sturridge on loan, we must have a striker lined up for sure. I really hope we go all out for Cavani today, he would be the icing on the cake for us. The style he plays and work-rate would suit our new look team and should he play 2nd striker to Torres he would cause lots of problems for any defense. Schurrle in my eyes is still too young and he hasnt had as much success at Leverkusen than he had at Mainz. Cavani has the killer instinct and would complete us this season and for the future. Guys listen to this, Liverpool fans have quoted their price tags for some of their players:
Raheem Sterling=30 mill pounds
Andy Carroll =20-25 mill pounds
I mean this this is beyond delusional.
Apparently they are signing Lorente now as they think FSG are doing things in secret (probably doing"secret dark alleyway deals").
Also nobody has got the wind of their transfers deals and they have gone from a definite top 4 to title contenders.Every tom ,dick and harry they sign is a great bargain buy(probably a bargain buy like Caaroll). All the out going players are sh**e and have never played football in their lives.
Another fact has come to light is that they do not play "tiki taka",but a new"pass and move" brand of football,I suppose it is an advanced version of "tiki-taka".
I mean this is not even funny anymore .
Wonder what ed018 thinks about this?
