Can we expect that between now and next weekend rafa will be told that he has to make champions league the main and number one priority or that he will be sacked by then. Jack

sorry to say but he is the worst manager we have had for some time this mr benitez roll on the summer when he has gone can't wait.

Believable8 Unbelievable2

Why be sorry for saying it? FSW should be sorry, along with the board who got rid of Di Matteo for naff all

If we fail to win on Monday that means we made two stupid mistakes on a role. how complicated things are getting now

Blueprint

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Whilst obviously I'd love to beat united and have the possibility of winning a trophy, I hope we lose tomorrow. It would be one less distraction and less games for us to play. At the moment the amount of games we're playing with our squad and Rafa seemingly preferring cups to the league, we'll end up in a dire position come the end of the season. With one less distraction we can focus more on the league and Rafa could also have a higher chance of winning a cup (Europa). I'm not sure we'll see the same decline in form from Tottenham as we did last season, with Bale carrying his team and with Arsenal seeming to be on the up, we need to focus on securing a top 4 finish. The only way we can do that is by giving up cup competitions.

this clown benitez needs to be kicked out of our club now if not we won't finish in the top four for certain this clown is not bothered about the club next season i'm sure all he is interested in is getting one of the cups on his cv, yeh success in one or both of them is great but not at a cost of champs league football next season but that is what is going to happen if we don't get rid of this muppet now please roman boot him out asap I don't care who we have in charge till the end of season surely they will not do any worse or any more damage to our club than rafa the clown here's hoping this nightmare ends now. Surely by his after match comments, he is admiting that the fa cup is more important to him, than the champions league. Is someone going to have a quiet word in his ear? {Ed018's Note - can only hope. But we all knew that with the side he put out. Like its been said, he wants trophies first and will then hope for a top 4 finish.}

Out of the three teams we have by far the hardest schedule.
Totenhams next 3 games will shape their season, if they can get 5pts or more including a draw or win against us then they will finish top 3.
Arsenal aren't a great team but their tough fixtures are mostly at home.

This is going to be very tight, where going to need some very big performances in the last 8 games.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

We will lose to utd spurs Liverpool and Swansea and finishn 5th

The four last teams spuds have to play could be in a relegation battle! They could potentially be four tough games!

ED002 is there not a concern among the Chelsea board that Benitez would rather win one o the cup competitions rather then finish in the top 4 after all he will not be here next year and having a trophy on your CV is more appealing to potential suitors rather then a top 4 finish? {Ed002's Note - Of course not.}

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Would not concerns have been raised with team selection, and his after match comments that he needs to rotate players because of number of games. By his team selection he is prioritising the cup over champions leagie. dan

30 Mar 2013 19:18:25
We can all blame benitez, torres etc but at the end of the day we are no longer the physical side we used to be, but at times we cannot seem to get away from that type of long ball game. Our so called second string side is not good enough. Take todays game for instance, we cannot afford to play a front 6 of torres, marin, moses, oscar, lampard and mikel. Be honest the only player out of those I can see scoring is lampard, maybe oscar. Getting top four is top priority so our best team should play in league and play the rotated players in cup comps. I would much rather have taken three points today than beat utd monday. I think we have a bright future but its really frustrating having benitez in charge, who has no passion for our club. The end of the season can't come quick enough. I just hope we make top four. Maybe a crazy idea but what about avram grant taking over for the rest of the season because I don't see any sort of improvement under rafa. If anything we have gone backwards.

NWBLUE

Believable6 Unbelievable0

Agree 100%. Priority top 4, always pick the strongest side for the league. Nothing else should matter at this stage of the season, now we have everyone else breathing down our necks

youve got to hand it to rafa, he took a torrent of abuse and was totally undermined by the club (interim manager) now he's after the cups and the glory for his own c. v. so today he stuck one finger up at the chelsea fans, the club and mourinho, I mean who in there right mind would saccrafice the chance to win cups just to hand a CL place to a new manager especially not mourinho as benitez hates him. kudos to the man, he may not be the best manager but he has balls and princibles,

Believable20 Unbelievable1

How is shanghai'ing the future of our club principled?

Agree0 Disagree0

He came into the Chelsea job open minded about the possibility of keeping the job and winning trophies to add to his CV. The abuse he's gotten from the fans and the perceived slights from the board have left him unwilling to actually help Chelsea as a club. By Shanghai'ing our club he's showing that ultimately he has the power to decide what happens to the future of our club. His priorities are now our priorities, not the other way around. He believes that since he hasn't been given a fair shot by either the fans or the board, instead of focusing on Chelsea, he now only cares about himself and the possible benefits Chelsea can give him. Both the fans and the board have given him the power to decide our future and by the fans not being welcoming and endearing him to the team, he ultimately doesn't care what happens to the club beyond the end of the season.

Agree1 Disagree1

I'm not sure how you can say the board haven't given him a fair shot. He was brought in as interim manager, given one of the Premierships top scoring strikers in the January transfer window, and set a very achievable goal of finishing 4th in the league, with the added opportunity to win trophies. If he consciously decides that the clubs goals are not important, then he has no place in professional football.

Agree2 Disagree1

He didn't get a fair shot, firstly his no1 priority was to concentrate on f. torrid and get him back to somewhere close to the player he used to be and that meant playing him eeekkk!, secondly once the cliche found out from the leaking bucket which is the cfc board he was interim he was a dead man walking as certain players wernt prepared to put a shift in for benitas, it also didn't help the abuse he recieved from the fans week in week out which defo effected the team. what's that old saying, ah yes, "you reap what you sow"

Agree2 Disagree1

I believe I said 'percieved slights'. Meaning he thought that there was the possibility of staying past the end of the season and that he wasn't necessarily going to just be there on an interim basis. Also the title of interim manager undermines his position with both the fans and the players. If perhaps he'd been given the job on a permaneant basis the fans might have realised and acknowledged the fact that he wasn't going anywhere and simply gotten behind the team from the start. The fans chanting and his interim title don't give the players much confidence (and whilst yes they are paid a lot of money to perform redgardless of manager etc) and creates a negativity in the team which in my opinion has lead to a lack of fight we currently see in the team. The only time we seemingly focus and become spirited is when we fall behind, unlike last season when players fought every game from the start.

Agree1 Disagree1

30 Mar 2013 18:26:09
Rafa can't put " I have finished 4th with Chelsea" on his resume and look good. He'll gun for any trophy possible, scuppering the league. While everyone else just wants this season to be finished, top3 finish in the league, waiter gone and Jose back. We are paying the price for having this one at the club.

JG

Believable8 Unbelievable0

Then they need to sack him now before he has a chance to cause further damage.

Who said he should be at the club in the first place?

He has lost so many points this term prioritizing other competitions. It's just sickening. What good would that be if we win both cups we are in and finish outside top 4?

I want Mourinho back BADLY I think he is the only that can be our new manager no one else! BUT he will not come back to Chelsea if we aren't in the champions league next year! I know Monday is a massive game but to start with moses, oscar and MARIN with Torrid upfront on his own that's just a joke! that line up you would say is good enough to beat southampton but if you look at how are season is going you should be playin one of mata or hazard

I pray we get top four and I think we will but the game at home to spurs is a MUST WIN

Dan1CFC

Believable7 Unbelievable1

Sorry Dan, you guys should really know something about the team you are playing. Don't blame your manager, half your supporters on this site have been saying how you would sail through the game at St. Marys. Well, City didn't and Liverpool didn't and you only took a point of Saints at home.
Your team was not good enough today.

Agree8 Disagree5

What the suppprters are saying, from the time the team was announced, that it was not good enough to get a result. That is the whole point, rafa rested players for Monday, when the supporters agree was the wtong decision. He should have played the full first and best eleven today, and rest them Monday.

Agree2 Disagree1

Remember Saints were without Lallana and Ramirez today, so stop making excuses.
And we had a 17 year old, and 18 year old on the field at the finish-something I can not see happening at Chelsea.
Your owner doesn't seem to know what it takes to make a TEAM. 11 expensive individuals is certainly not that, especially when they are shown by Jack Cork what it means to put in a shift. {Ed018's Note - you played well today, you have nothing to defend. Chelsea could have put out a better side but it makes no difference now}

Agree3 Disagree1

Thanks Ed, appreciate your comments. Perhaps a few supporters should take into account what Mourinho thinks about Saints new manager and they would recognise that any team you put out would be given a real test. Thought his management was spot on today and same last week against Liverpool and on this showing he could really be a force next season.

Agree2 Disagree3

Yes I think saints played really well and deserved to win by more. All out comments are about rafas bad team selection, but nothing should be taken away from saints performance.

Someone at the club needs to ask rafa why he put out that team today. He needs to be told that the fa and europa cups are not prority over champions league. He has time to correct things, and to make sure that todays mistake is not repeated.

Believable3 Unbelievable3

It will keep happening until the waiter is well away from the club {Ed018's Note - yep, summer can't get here soon enough}

Cutted but yet not surprised with the result. Rafa clearly isn't prioritising the league. We need to put that at the top of our list. Hate to say it, but losing on monday might do us some good. The end of the season can't come quick enough.

Dreadful result, dreadful manager. If we want someone like Mourinho to come in May as manager, and to attract top strikers/talent in general, top 4 place absolutely essential, always has been. Benitez too foolish or self-serving (does he want to be noticed for future of his career through -- in long rung -- unimportant cup wins?) to realise that this must always be the priority instead of putting out weakened sides against likes of QPR (home), Southampton now etc etc. Sack the FSW now otherwise we may well not make top 4! VBS

Believable6 Unbelievable1

Simply not good enough. I accept this is a transition season and we're aren't the force of previous years, but when you put in a performance where you lack work rate, determination and desire, you can leave the club.

If you don't play for the shirt, it doesn't matter if you're messi or pele, you aren't good enough.

Bertrand is not good enough to be in this squad, simple as that!

Believable5 Unbelievable0

I agree van aanholt should replace him next season. But Moses is just terrible bad movement bad passing, terrible crossing. I can see why lamps will be moving on, mikel again poor as hell. Need to get rid of this lot. {Ed018's Note - Moses can't pick out a 10 yard pass to save his life let alone put in a decent cross}

Moses has not been himself since he returned from AFCON. I think the afcon glory is still ringing in his memories, Someone should tell him to snap out of it

Finally Rafa has pulled out his secret weapon

Believable4 Unbelievable0

You know rafa's going all out when he puts on yossi. {Ed018's Note - what a waste, why not bring on Ba and play 2 up front}

Agree2 Disagree0

Exactly my thoughts ED. If not having 2 strikers at least put Ba on for Torres and pump balls into the box. The whole line-up was doomed to fail. But the players never really turned up in the first half either. Way too slow off the mark. {Ed018's Note - your right, there really isn't much fight in this team}

Stick with Torres, he's only been sh-te for 2 years, give the guy a chance.

This performance is absolutely disgusting, but yet so predictable. We can accept losing but the manner which we are losing, quite honestly, is sickening. We are in serious danger of missing out on champions legaue qualification again, and while winning either the fa cup or europa league will be good for Benitez's c. v. , the long term effects of missing out on the top four could be castastrophic, both on the pitch and off it. It also means no hope of hiring Mourinho as a new manager and attracting the top calibre of player that we need when we enter the market in the summer, let alone keeping the world class talent we currently have at our disposal. By all means this season has taken its toll in terms of games played but unless we wake up, and soon, we are in real trouble as a club.

They don't need champions league to sign but I agree with what your saying to an extent

Agree1 Disagree0

Luke Shaw to sign?

Absolute no chance. Only reason he could have been interested was if Saints were relegated and Chelsea were in CL next season. After today, neither will happen, so back to your dreams.

And no, you can't have Rodriguez either. {Ed018's Note - Shaw will eventually move on and Chelsea remains a likely destination. I hate to break it to you}

Absolute Rubbish! {Ed018's Note - couldn't have said it better myself}

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Surely Bertrand ain't somebody chelsea should be relying on. Clyne has literally taken him for a fool thus far. Mikel and Moses, Marin are ineffective.

I can't believe Mata isn't even in the squad. Is he injured or something?

Shak {Ed018's Note - no he isn't injured, just our great tactical genius making his usual good decisions}

Agree0 Disagree0

He should have started with strongest team today to make sure we qualify for champions league, rest players Monday. Arsenal and spuds both winning hope bfw sorts his mess out in second half.

Agree2 Disagree0

Rafa has prioritised the FA cup so he can say he won a trophy, he doesn't care about 4th spot because he won't be here next season. This is so frustrating.
Kenny.

Agree0 Disagree0

Moses has had a bit of joy down the right and is actually looking like our only attacking threat at this point. Neither Marin nor Oscar have recieved any decent service from midfield to build from and have so far not seen much of the ball. We're losing it in the midfield as neither Mikel nor Lampard have played well. In fact Lampard has lost the ball several times in our own half. I still don't understand why we keep kicking it long to Torres, when its obvious he isn't able to get it down or even header it. Waste of time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rafa doesn't care about the league. He'll be gone the end of the season so it doesn't matter to him whether or not we're in the Champs League. Coming in 2/3/4th in the league won't look as good on his CV as winning a cup like FA/Europa would.

Agree1 Disagree0

I can't believe that ed, shocking decision to leave mata out. Jeez

Doesn't look good guys. The waiter has picked a squad that could really put our champions league qualification at risk.
