Sad that I am, I spent some of this afternoon watching Chelsea TV the Premiership Years. Don't laugh but I found myself wondering just how many goals Mark Stein or John Spencer would have got playing in front of our midfield, bearing in mind they didn't do bad with the teams they played in. I'm sure they would be prolific!!

Believable4 Unbelievable0

Can't we just get Kerry to put his boots back on for one more season? ;)

ED002 is it possible that Chelsea may decide to end Benitez's interim reign at the club it is very unsavoury i feel sorry for Benitez some person fans abused him verbally at a train station this situation is really bad! {Ed002's Note - I really have litle interest in discussing managers at this time. Obviously if the team fails to perform there comes a time.}

Believable1 Unbelievable1

ED002 is it true the club are looking to bring Avram Grant in? {Ed002's Note - I really have no interest in discussing Avram Grant at this time.}

Agree1 Disagree2

ED can i ask why you do not think Pep will take over in the summer when we approached him did he say he had no interest in taking over at any point? {Ed002's Note - {Please just drop all of this stuff about managers.}

I'm no tactician but Fellani would surely solve some problems at set pieces, midfield and even as a support for The front players.

Believable9 Unbelievable1

Agree. We should buy him. And Falcao. And anyone else who is good. And fire Benitez and get Jose back. Waaaa, waaaaa, waaaa!

Typical Chelsea fan.

Agree3 Disagree2

We don't have problems at set-pieces?

My opinion about what is wrong with the team.
Our biggest problem is obviously Torres, he has lost all his self esteem, is trying too hard, losing every ball, extreamly bad first touch, well everything dosent work for the guy sadly enough. I dont think the formation fits Torres as a alone striker, he aint a big guy that can hold on to the ball and protect it etc.

The pivot is not working and its clear for everyone, Mikel really dont suit this type of play style and slows the attacks down and lose the ball often aswell as defending poor and dont run back fast enough. He really isent Chelsea quality and should be replaced.
Ramires havent really played so well lately either i dont know if he is tired or what is wrong, but he seems to contribute alot less in the attack havent been passing good enough and has problems concentrating.
They are both unable to pass the ball forward so Oscar usualy tracks back and help them which slows the attack even more down, this is one major issuse that hurt our attack alot and gives the opponents time to get in a defending position. It aslo tires Oscar or who ever tracks back to help them even more.
What we could do is probably chaning the position to a 4-3-2-1 or 4-3-3, this way we wil most likely have to be Oscar, helping Ramires & Mikel to control the midfield much more.

Our attack is very far from optimal since our only striker (Torres) is pretty much doing nothing at all, this means the trio behind him has to do 90% of the offensive work. Both Oscar, Mata and Hazard are mostly used to help strikers to score goal, and its here we got a problem. Cause Torres is doing absolutely nothing and they end up tracking into the middle with the ball and not know what to do, so they pass it to one of the others and they do the same as the other and dont have anyone to pass forward too either.
So while we play with Torres i think it is really important for them to try play "one two pass" with eachother to get past the defenders outside the box and create chances this way, and all 3 of them need to shoot more often in general.
Hazard needs to do the same he did in the start of the season and try to dribble around the defense and get behind them and it was quite a success, he got alot of pentalties and assists that way, but for some reason he has stopped doing it and i really think that is much better for us if start doing it again also he should start shooting ALOT more on the goal.
Mata is doing very well and the only thing he should work on is his first touch and his finish, today against west ham he missed quite a few goals due to that and if he fix that he is gonna be one of the world best players.
Oscar is much more complete player and defends very well too i still feel he needs to shoot alot more on the goal and we has seen what he can do it (Juventus), he probably needs to work on his finish a little more and start to dribble around the opponents and we have seen he can do that too.

All in all we just need Oscar,Mata and Hazard to play half a year together to gel more, and then kick Torres far away from the field.

In the defence i really think we are quite fine, Azpilicueta has started very well and has a bright future here but we still seems very shaky when Terry aint here to command them around. I think it is time Terry talks with Ivan and/or Luiz and help one or both of them to become a good captain when he aint here, we need someone to yell at the players and tell what to do if they looked confused or people get sloppy and not focused on the game and we need that quick.
If cole leaves in january we got a little of a problem cause i dont think Bertrand is good enough or wil be, he seems to play something between a left back and winger. That may be due to the managers playing him in different positions all the time, so i think we need to invest new fullback i wouldnt mind if he was a little older 24-27 to get a few more experienced players in the team.

Some people say we need bigger and more physical players but i really just think that is an excuess for playing poor, ManC have the same amount of small players sometimes 1 more than us and you dont see them lacking physical pressence that might be down to their full backs going more forward and Pivot not doing their job.

We need to buy in the january window and we shouldnt spend alot of money on it, these players i would love to see, only 1 striker of those mentioned tho(2 if we sell Sturiddge & dont recall Lukaku.

Paulinho - He plays central/defensive midfielder, he also plays together with Ramires in the Brazil NT, he is a little better than Ramires to score goal/assits etc and would offer alot more than Mikel and . he is a must have
video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qu0DCgvLDh0

Wilfried Bony - He is playing for Vitesse and have performed extreamly well this season, has scored 20 goals so far and is more of a physical type than Torres. Only thing is he is abit similar to Lukaku and that might be a little problem if we have 2 types of the same player next season.
Video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKWodin3QOk

Fernando Llorente - Similar build as Dzeko and he could be quite cheap as his contract run out in the end of the season. He is a proven goal score in La Liga and could be the big rock we need upfront. He is by far the best of the 3 and would make a instant impact for Chelsea and the one i would prefer to secure a top4 spot.
Video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7z6ThxbOwM

Ricky van Wolfswinkel - He has the same build as Torres is. He is a class player but still need to join a bigger club to get world class, i think he would be amazing player for chelsea and link up very well with the trio and he is super off the ball aswell.

Believable4 Unbelievable7

Good post, you make some really good points. In January we need to get a quality defensive midfield and a poacher up top. I'd like to see Capoue and Falcao/Damiao. We should recall McEachran, we should blood him in as soon as, I think he will be the new Lampard, Chalobah will be JT and Lukaku taking on Drogba's role.

Agree1 Disagree0

I dont believe we need a def mid, ramires can do this exceptionally well, we need a player who can pass well & quick. (mceachran or de bruyne) type players. to play alongside ramy the warrior. BLUEBOY1

Agree0 Disagree1

Neither of those are a defensive mid, and we need atleast one :)

Here is mine opinion on what players would play in chelseas st. lineup-Gk.Cech.He is in the moment, alongside Casillas the best goalkeeper in the world.I think we shouldnt change the defense much.Ashley Cole is obviusely leaving so i would like my fellow Bosnian Senad Lulić to replace him.In the midfield,i would put Mikel on dmf, although i am not a fan of his game but we havent got much option on the market in that position.I would put Ramires on Cmf,Mata on Lmf,Hazard on Rmf and Oscar right on the back of the forward as the amf.For the attacker part i would like to see Falcao or Torres.I dont think Torres is a bad player.I think that he needs support, when he plays bad in a game i would like to see others to give him some advice and he could be better than ever.
So:
Cech-Ivanović-Terry-Luiz-Lulić-Mikel-Ramires-Hazard-Mata-Oscar-Falcao or Torres

Believable1 Unbelievable5

Mikel!! or TORRES! f*** off both rubbish AND BOTH PASSANGERS AT CFC! get real both need to go

Agree2 Disagree4

Not enough options on the market for central/defensive midfielders whaaaatttt? ofc there is plenty of better ones than Mikel out there for sale.
And Torres is a good player if people on the field give him advice woot? M8 Torres is probably the player in the world that is getting most advice and help how to play, and yet he still fails horrible and still get played :S

i think rafa will turn this poor form round if the cfc fans start to give him a chance he does need time do achieve this, will he get the time i hope so but you never know at chelsea, what maybe the club could have done when they sacked rdm was bring back ray wilkins who still loves the club and still well liked by the fans we should have let him get the right person to assist him im sure this could have worked wilkins would definitely got the support of the players and the fans maybe roman should think long and hard about this and make amends with ray wilkins for the good of the club if rafa cant sort this out because this club of ours is in a right old mess at the moment one way or another just want our great club to have some stability for once, here's hoping. The danger now is that Raffa stays longer than the interim 7-month period because no other top manager wants to come near us. Pep will not be tempted by money only for stability which we do not have. I am not sure how Roman is going to convince him to accept. Proitos

Has anyone else noticed the distinct lack of one on ones we have? Mata is fantastic behind the striker but we need a deep playmaker in the mould of Xavi to thread through passes
Scotty

Believable3 Unbelievable0

One on ones?! Really?! We regularly fail to create any clear cut opportunities. One on ones will only really occur in a counter attack, which we are distinctly slow at building.

Also, Torres is in no state to complete one on ones. Lack of pace and confidence.

Tactically the team are very poor at the moment. Benitez can't take the blame for it.

IB.

Agree6 Disagree0

Torres drops to deep to turn off last defender and be out through one on one

Agree1 Disagree1

I agree with you Scotty, I've thought it myself, we need a passer of the ball playing deeper so we can be passing it more fluidly, a Xavi or Xabi Alonso -esque player perhaps. The only thing I'd suggest is if we bring lampard back into the position after he has recovered, not the ideal player, but the best alternative in the squad at the moment, until January that is.

Devon.

Agree3 Disagree1

Well you clearly didn't watch the game yesterday, we had a number of good chances that we didn't finish. How can you question the teams tactical ability? At the beginning of the season we were fine. People have short memories. This team reminds of us under AVB, good players but no direction.
Scotty

Agree2 Disagree2

What we really need is a physical presence in midfield, we have none at the moment. West ham realised this and changed it at half time, it was then only a matter of time until their extra muscle in midfield became too much for us to compete. Rafa made subs but they also lacked the sheer physical presence that is need at times. Basically we are too lightweight at the moment,it's not just skilful players you need but also some who will take hold of a game a attempt to dominate from the middle of the pitch. We don't have that I'm afraid.

Agree2 Disagree0

In my opinion tactically we were very poor yesterday. In the first half we should have put the game beyond them. We didn't. Then they improve in the second half and we lose concentration and suffer tactically. Lots of players simply aren't working hard enough to carry out our game plan for 90 minutes.

I think it is absolutely ridiculous if the club allow Lamps and Ash to leave. The squad will have absolutely no leadership or courage in games. Just look what's happening since JT and Frank have been out injured. I think it's a disgrace that the club aren't giving Chelsea legends a 2 year contract, when u have got Torres performing like a League 1 striker earning £200k a week. We need players at the club who actually play for the shirt! Get your act together Emenalo and the board, listen to the fans for once!
