A bit of a hard one today. Jose plays the same team and we looked a little stale, but then again if he made changes and we drew, we would all be saying why change a winning side. For me that was hazard and costas worst game this season but again we cannot expect them to be flying every game. Sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say sunderlund played well. They played for what they got and that was a point.

Couple of takes on the game.

Ivanovic, Ew. When teams sit deep, we need luis in left back, do not understand why he doesn't play, azpillicueta isn't comfortable attacking on that left side, and on the right, Ivanovic can not cross.

Willian on his counters frustrate me, that's why I believe we need a proper winger in January, Caudradro is a must, not another inverted winger like Thorgan or someone from the youth. Caudradro has the neccesary width and is a brilliant player

Hazard needs to step up on these games. Didn't take on a single player today. Poor from Eden.

Matic and Fabregas were not very good today.

Diego Costa looked isolated.

Why did we not cross the ball when drogba and Remy came on? Perfect time to cross the ball.

We need rotation. Luis needs games. Schurrle needs games, although he has been poor, this would have been his perfect game.

You might think this is super negative or whatever, but it's just a couple of takes, I'm not worried about Draw, as it's the first time this season we haven't scored. I'm putting it down to a one off.

Forgot to mention, fair play to Sunderland and Poyet! Great performance from the both of them

Agree0 Disagree0

Willian's main issues in our counter attacks today was that his decision making and final ball were completely lacking. Not sure how a winger would have helped with our counter attacks.
A traditional winger might have helped us to stretch play though.

I would have started Schurrle, Remy and possibly Luis. All of them are lacking match fitness and it shows when they come on.
Not to mention that we do need to change up our style every now and again, in order to keep teams from figuring us out.
Perhaps on another day, if the team weren't starting their third game in a week, we might have been able to break Sunderland down like we've done to others. But fatigue/over-confidence meant that the players just weren't at it today.
Congrats to Sunderland though, despite our own misgivings in the game, they made it really hard and could have nicked all 3 points near the end.
Overall a point is not the worst result, but I just hope we don't look back and regret today.

Agree0 Disagree0

Frustrating game to watch really. Indeed we really lacked width and I thought we played pretty slow and with less energy than usual. Also a bit sloppy when in possession.
I also thought Luis could've been useful as he does provide width on that left side and can draw a defender away from Hazard. And he does all that while not much compromising his defensive game.
However, you can't win 'em all and I hope this draw gets the players fired up for Tottenham. Obviously without Costa it's going to be a bit harder but I believe Remy is more than up to the challenge (hope Remy starts and not Drogba).
Onwards and upwards. Let's get the 3 points next time.

Not being funny 'mr opinionated' as you post everything, but Matic was by far our best player again today. He done what he was suppose to do so no HE DID NOT have a bad game.

I do agree though that we need a more deadly winger with a good work rate I.e Cuadrado

Agree0 Disagree0

What do you mean at the start matic?

And he wasn't up to his normal standards, dome poor passes, didn't neccesarily defend well and I saw fabregas make more tackles than him.

He wasn't bad, but bad compared tohos usual self

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah I meant them split buddy. We needed width and also Willian sucks on counters.

Agree0 Disagree0

There are few things that you do not understand completely.
First Matic became more confident than one year a go. He started to play with style he used to play at Benfica. That means he started to play much more attack minded taking more playmaker role. And now Mourinho can not stop the process. I believe he brought Matic from that reason and now it is happening.
Second, Fabregas had a poor game compared to his quality. He didn't gave a single clinical pass for 90minutes.
Willian was the best Chelsea player last night, next after him was Matic.
Azpillicueta is not real LB.As LB he is defensively excellent but offensively we don't have left side. We don't concede goals but we are not dangerous at the same time.
Stop mixing who should be crossing. Crossing is something which is task of wingers not backs. We allegedly have world class wingers. EH, Willian & Schurrle are able to cross only from right wing (Schurrle can cross from left wing but only in rare occasions). Salah is the only one who can cross properly from left side(but doesn't play much does he?). Last night we had only two crossings from Ivanovich but you cannot expect Costa to use them if he is surrounded by two CDs and DM, plus what is even more important Sunderland GK is over 2m tall so any high cross was his.
We have reached another level so 4231 or 4141(433) is not going to work against lesser teams. Trying to walk with the ball into opponents goal is not going to work especially when we play against teams with such a physical defence like Sunderlands defence.
Last season we had a problem in central midfield with lack of physical game until Matic joined us.Now we have the same problem but this time in concerns our attack. There is only one solution WE HAVE TO PLAY WITH TWO STRIKERS. Mourinho transferred to 442 at the end but it was to late. Fabregas & Matic were already tired and we couldn't play with full capacity.
IN GENERAL I AGREE WITH ALL OF YOU!
THE NEXT GAME WILL BE BETTER!

Fair point chn nice to have you back :)

We can't win every game. Sunderland played very well today. I was impressed how Wickam played. We missed our chances although we could have lost the game.

We didn't create one single clear cut chance apart from maybe Ivanovic. Sunderland thoroughly deserved a point and in truth they could have won it on the counter attack if they had played it right. We need to start off with a far higher tempo and move the ball faster, maybe even going down the wings and crossing it like the good old days instead of walking it into the box arsenal style.

Agree0 Disagree0

It kind of felt like they underestimated Sunderland & thought they could pass they're way around them but you could see from the first minute how tight & compact they were, no wing play, hazard had two defenders round him every time he got the ball, passing was sloppy & slow in general tonight

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed018's Note - slow and not playing down the wings absolutely ruined this match for us. Suprised these points weren't addressed at halftime}

You could see from the tv how central we played & looked easy to defend against, two banks of four on they're 18 yard box & all we could do was pass side to side, shame but just a minor blip hopefully, hope for a draw tomorrow for soton & City!

Hoping for a Southampton win to be honest situation they're not exactly guna challenge for the title.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah I guess so, they need to keep aguero quiet as he's they're only hope of winning anything this season

Very frustrating game. Schurrle would have been good in that game, fuser is right, too many players coming to get the ball and not enough runs.

That yellow on Costa was ridiculous, and we should have had 3 pens from all the times we was wrestled on corners.

We go on. KTBFFH

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Fair result in the end I reckon, they were solid & we didn't get in behind at all apart from ivanovics effort, shame we couldn't stretch the gap knowing points will be dropped in tomorrow's game

Extremely frustrating first half. One of the things that frustrated me the most was the shooting from long range. Apart from Oscar I can't really think of any others having scored from long range before.
Another thing is that we're constantly coming towards the ball to pick it up. Hazard coming close and collecting the ball from Oscar from 2 yards, only for Oscar to take Hazards previous place. Then Willian coming to collect from Hazard, and Hazard going to stand in the same space Willian just vacated etc etc.
None of them are making runs into the corner or box in order to stretch play and create space!
Finally I think Costa's extremely lucky to still be on the pitch after that kickout on O'Shea.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Wouldn't surprise me if the FA ban him in retrospect tbh.

Agree0 Disagree0

FA can't take any action - the referee saw it and talked to both players.

All this messi talk I hope is a load of rubbish. There is no doubt messi is one of the greatest players of all time but £200m for one player, I hope not. That £200m could be spent on making us the best team in England for the next 10 years. Reus, varane, pogba to name a few. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't complain if the best player in the world was playing for chelsea but for financial reasons (maybe the Eds could clear this up). Our club is or has now become a club clear of debts so spending £200m on one player who could go out and have a nasty injury just doesn't make sense. Maybe sponsors will cough up the money (Turkish airlines and Adidas).

Agree with you! Would rather Pogba, Varane and rues for 200 million than messi.

Agree0 Disagree0

Aron I have to admit your optimism is unbelievable! We should consider ourselves lucky if we somehow manage to sign Reus next summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

MN, Reus was just an example, and an ideal for many of us Blues fans, of the quality and calibre of players we could bring in for the 200m. If we can't get Reus we could still bring in one Sterling/Cuadrado/Talisca/Isco/etc and still strengthen other key areas with the 200m, instead of just spending it on one player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Reus is maybe only realistic target from all mentioned players. Do you really think that we will spend 200m£ on transfers?

Agree0 Disagree0

No, probably not. But IF the club were willing to spend the £200m on Messi, I'd rather the spent the money on strengthening the entire squad.
So the one in which we have like 1% chance to sign is the most realistic?

Predictions for tonight?

I'm going 3-0

Double from Diego and a free kick from oscar

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think it'll be a tough game. Perhaps Remy will start so Diego is sure to be fit for Tottenham. Maybe 1-3 though, we should have enough fire power either way to get the win.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hazard double and an assist for costa, think he's going to kill that back four and show he's back to his best.

3-0

What number would everyone have Lionel Messi if he joined us?

I'd give him the 11 or the 9, or give him 10 and hazard swap to 11

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No, can't take Eden's number, I know some people don't care much for numbers but I see it as a players identity especially the ones that have a connection with this digit. Like Eden does either number ten.

If Messi wanted our beautiful ten with his name just above written in the purest of white that does justice to that royal blue which glitters even at night and makes rival teams jitter and admire our awesomeness from afar as the sun rays or moonlight holds no consequence to its beauty. he should have quit Barca earlier, Eden has it and you do know what they say of first come first serve. Messi can have 11 though, that's really cool too.

Agree0 Disagree0

9 is open, right? If it is, I'd just give him that. Personally, I wouldn't take 10 away from Hazard.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just give him the number 7 shirt has I don't see Ramires staying beyond this season. Hazard will be our number 10 for a long time to come.

Agree0 Disagree0

Same, I think 11, we can't just take it from Eden, he deserves it.
