These are the signings I think we should go for in January:

Replacements:

Falcao for Torres - if Benitez builds the team around Torres, then Chelsea will be an embarrassment if we want to be a competitive club we need a world class striker and seen as we've been heavily linked with Falcao I would love to see him at the bridge.

Huntelaar for Sturridge - If we want to challenge the Manchester clubs for the title we need two great strikers. Falcao would be one, and seen as Huntelaar is in the last year of his contract and apparently can go for as little as 8 million we should sign him. Sturridge will never be good enough to start as Chelsea's no.1 striker and seen as Liverpool are interested and would pay 15 million for him this could be great business.

M'Vila for Mikel - I know M'Vila can have problems with his attitude but this young lad is phenomenal he has everything for a defensive midfielder and is also a very good leader which could help our midfield when Lampard moves on.

In:

Falcao
Huntelaar
M'Vila
Wallace - Already agreed
Taison - was at the Fulham game deal meant to be close will be a great back up striker.

Out:

Hilario
Ferreira
Malouda
Sturridge
Torres

If we just replace players then we will never have great squad just a great starting XI, Manchester clubs do well because they can take one player off and being another one just as good,

Agree1 Disagree0

Huntelaar is 29 which is fairly old, therfore id rather see us lodge abid for lewandowki, as well Vidal could also be possible if M'Villa isnt a target

Agree4 Disagree0

Sorry, i could see Pauliniho or fernando as good targets as well

What does everyone think about being linked with Mario Gomez as a potential striker target?

I think this could work seen as Mandzukic at Bayern is doing fantastically well while Gomez is injured and Gomez is a real leader upfront.

Rumours around various websites include that Chelsea have agreed a deal for 12 million rated Metallist Kharkiv striker Taison who was at the Fulham game last night.

Would be a great addition as a 2nd/3rd choice striker at the bridge think it's very likely Schurrle will come in seen as Emenalo our technical director seems fascinated with him wouldnt be bad as backup to a Gomez/Falcao.

Looks as Benitez has set his sights on Paulinho to add to the midfield never really seen him play. Would like to see a ball winner in Fernando.

No offence to Rafa but you cannot build a team around an out of form striker and all the bad ego's like Mikel, Torres should leave because they're bringing down the team with them.

Ins:

Gomez
Schurrle
Taison
Wallace
Paulinho

Out:

Hilario
Ferreira
Malouda
Mikel
Sturridge - Maybe Liverpool

Bencfcwxm
Torres - With a bit of Luck

Does Mikel have a big ego :o? i never knew that.

Was there no money involved Brucey? Were they offering us Higuain for free?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

They offered us Higuan, if we dropped interest in Cavani. It was not for free. I couldn't tell you the fee and I'm sure Ed002 won't. I take it you're new to the site and think I'm talking b*******. It was well known this offer was made by Madrid, try and keep up.

We should have taken that deal

Just 2 quick points.

1 - As Chelsea fans we should know by now we can never win with the media and the masses. According to the majority we should be ashamed of ourseleves for the fans booing Benitez and wanting him out. Yet you can guarantee that if we would have shown him our support, we would have been reminded of what he said about us in the past and then called fickle for forgetting about it and showing him our support. Arr well, good job this game isn't about making friends, its about winning, which we have done better than any other British club in the last decade

2 - We always hear people say we've got no history. Now excuse me for a second, but if memory serves me correct, we were the original toy to be bought by a sugar daddy abroad worth billions, who then bought us the league! Since then we've had teams copying our style left right and centre. You've got City, PSG, Anzi, Malaga, Zenit, the Chinese team etc. But no one will live up to us, we were the original club, the history makers if you like.

So there you go, just 2 quick random points that popped into my head and i thought i should share.

They are just jealous and small-minded. They cannot get into their little brains how Roman can be so dedicated to this club and that he does not tolerate failure. Well, isn't this what we should have done with the bankers and the politicians? Sack them all? Proitos.

How did Romeu perform yesterday? i wasent able to see the game.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Brilliant first half, slacked a bit second. Marin looked good aswell. But I must say the people at the bridge yesterday were all very quiet.

Agree2 Disagree3

He performed pretty well, passed the ball forward and defensively sound as well. He had a good game

Any of this true ed?

The 20-year-old, dubbed the new Oscar, is valued at £6million by Atletico Mineiro.

Bernard — who made his Brazil debut last week — was recommended to the European champions by former Blues striker Deco after a series of eye-catching performances.

He is being touted as a possible successor to Frank Lampard.

Wheelycfc

Thnks :) {Ed002's Note - Bernard is being touted around Europe. It is true that he is contracted to Atletico Mineiro and has been called up to the National side. I don't really have the time for validating vague stories you find on the internet.}

Its funny cos Oscar is only 21 ... :L

I'm no fan of rafa but in his defence at the moment our team is playing with a striker who is just not fit for purpose. His constant apparent lack of interest/ ability to complete even the most simple of passes to team mates must have an effect on his team mates confidence in him. Therefore sometimes you can't blame them if our approach play is slow as in the back of their minds they must surely doubt his ability to do anything with the ball if they do pass to him!
If you watch his general play he appears to try to stay away from the danger areas, the oppenents box, for fear of beng passed too and having to have a shot, this is not the form of a 20/30 goal a season striker and must effect his team mates.
Unfortunately until the transfer window we are stuck with him but I fear until this is resolved and someone is brought into at least provide some competition then we will continue to strugle for goals.
Notice I haven't mention his name I'm sure you all know who I mean though!

I for one will never be pleased to see Rafa on our bench. However, despite the disappointing match against Fulham I do see a few positives from the Benitez influence;

1) Romeu will be given a chance alongside Ramires. I think this will prove to be a strong partnership in the center. Romeu offers a lot more going forward than Mikel and doesn't compromise on defense. Given a consistent run in the team, I think he will do well.
2) Ivanovic is a better CB than both Luiz and Cahill. Rafa has given him a chance to prove it and it could well solve some of the defensive issues.
3) Marin got his first pl minutes! Not convinced that this was due to Rafa's arrival - there has been talk of injuries etc - but it was still good to see...

One other point. I don't understand the criticism of Rafa as a defensive minded manager. Mourinho has a similar approach to football. Yet, most fans would take him back at the drop of a hat. If I remember, one of Jose's main ideals was that we must never lose. In other words, as there is no guarantee of scoring in a match, we must keep a clean sheet to make certain that we don't lose. So success can be based on a solid defense. If we score one goal or if we score three, it is irrelevant if we concede four... Just a thought.

Make no mistake, I would love to see entertaining attacking football. However, its a results business and I am prepared to give Benitez a chance.

Apologies for the length of the post.

Its not so much about being defensive, its about playing a freaking defender on wing when we already lack a forward and that is a huge problem cannot carry bertrand + Torres.

Yeah, I agree regarding Bertrand on the wing. I was making a more general comment on Benitez as manager, rather than his specific tactics against Fulham.

However, regarding the Fulham game; I can see the reasoning behind Bertrand. Reither has been an attacking threat for Fulham all season from full back and I suspect Benitez was hoping that Bertrand would keep him quiet. Nevertheless, I think we would have been better served with Hazard or Moses on the left so that Reither was forced to do his job and defend. Bertrand was ineffective; far better at full back where he belongs!

Agree5 Disagree0

Can't agree about Romeu...from my seat he had a poor game. No one will be able to convince me he is anywhere near as good as Josh

Agree5 Disagree2

Romeu was one of the best first half by far where was you sitting? And josh and Romeu are totally different players. BLUEBOY1

Agree2 Disagree4

Matthew Harding Upper...gave the ball away....slower than Mikel in possession...passing accuracy was poor when trying to pass forwards...no pace....you're wrong about Josh in my opinion...he can easily start attacks from deep and inject pace in our game by quick, accurate incisive passing....if you don't move the ball quickly from deep you're never going to create the space for Mata, Hazard...etc etc

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Nov 2012 00:55:14
I agree regards to Josh but we have to work with what we have at the moment and I think Romeu is going to be better alongside Ramires than Mikel. You make the point that Romeu gave up possession too often and that's true. However, it should be noted that our movement in the forward half was almost non-existent against Fulham. We could have had Josh/Mikel/Lamps and it would have made no difference. I like that Romeu is prepared to make an attacking pass and I think when our movement in attack is better he will prove that he is a better option than Mikel in that role.

To be fair, he has had 5 training sessions with this squad, so it'll take time for it all to settle in. I personally think, Rafa has done a decent job so far, he has sorted out the defence which is vitally important, and we all know goals where hard to come by under Robbie, and will be under Rafa.

Patience.

I would like to air my view whether it is different or the same as everybody. Firstly i will always support the team and always have through thick and thin but the sacking of di matteo should only have happened if pep or jose where available now. Appointing a manager who has disrespected our club in the way rafa has was not the way forward. I would never boo or disrepect someone who has been placed in charge of our club, but that doesnt mean im happy with his appointment. I dont think the decision to sack roberto was correct but at the same time i didnt think appointing him last year was correct and look how that ended playing out. The two games since di matteo was sacked has clearly effected the squad as our football has gone terrible with basically the same starting line ups as before. We seem to put ourselves in the same position all the time and its just getting frustrating for us supporters. If we truly want to move forward we need to appoint jose mourinho who is probably the biggest idol of this club in terms of management ever. He produces results where ever he has been,he strives to be successfull and i believe we need him to move forward. I think appointing guardiola would be another risk as lets be honest barcelona are a great team but thats the only team he has managed. I also think we are in need of more spending to replace the spine of our team. I know the club are addressing this so hopefully it will be done sooner rather than later. Torres needs to go and two strikers need to be brought in. A denfensive midfield player who can actually play football, someone like fernandinho from shaktar would go great next to ramires. I think ashley cole should be given another contract as how do you replace the best left back in the world. I would also like to see a new centre back come in as terrys injurys seem to be adding up more often. I just hope rafa can at least guide us to a top four finish anything less would be a disaster. Over the last ten years we have been spoilt by roman and his money helping us get to the top by bringing in quality players. I cant speak for everyone but under jose mourinho as a fan i felt 100% confident that we would win every game we played. At times we looked unstopable and even on a bad day we still got the result. I would like nothing more than the special one to be sitting in the dugout next season.
