How come we sold Ajern Robben?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Because hes made of glass

Agree2 Disagree3

No, my dear John. It is because we were stupid. And what strikes me, is we never got a replacement since. On top of that - we sold him for 20 million pounds to Real, they've got a few years of service and sold him on a profit at 30 million euros.

JG {Ed002's Note - It was very much a case of his father pushing for the move once everyone was aware that Real Madrid were interested. He was sold to Real Madrid for 36M euros.}

Agree3 Disagree0

I werent serious, glass is harder to break than arjen... on a serious note he was one of my fave players when he was at chelsea, but I dont think we were stupid to sell him. He had a real bad run of injuries in his last season and think if he stayed in the PL it would have been a never ending cycle, the move seemed best for everyone imo.
yours dearly

Agree2 Disagree0

Correct me if I'm wrong but I also remember him having issues with our style of play. {Ed001's Note - that was an excuse to chase the money.}

Agree1 Disagree0

Ed2: 36 euros, really? If so - then i take my words back, sorry. Stil we haven't replaced him, though.

JG {Ed002's Note - You have to keep in mind that the exchange rate for teh euro at thetime - you can probably look it up somewhere. But that was the price.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Arjen was a left wide man, although I do not rate him as a replacement with how he has been going recently, you have to say Malouda fits the description even if he is in a different class. Is that not a replacement?

Melbourne CFC

Agree0 Disagree1

We had hom playing on the right if you remember, although left footedvand predominantly a left wing forward. I do notconsider Malouda a replacement, as i do not rate him of Chelsea standard at all. It is just as much as asking isn't Kalou a worthy replacement.

Tell me a succesful team (major trophies winning team around the continent) which employs a 4-3-3 formation without a top class wing forwards?

It just does not work, my friend. It doesn't.

I know its not for a while but what's peoples choice team v Napoli personally I'd like to see something like this

............Cech ............

Ivan.....Luiz......Cahill.....cole

................essien.............

........Ramires......lampard

Sturridge.......drogba......mata

I don't think I need to defend my choice of ivanovic over bosingwa I think essien is our best choice for dm as he has better discipline than Ramires and can actually defend unlike wonderful mereiles and more experience an romeu the rest is really a given.

Nova

Believable5 Unbelievable1

I must say that is by far our strongest line up. If the team was to stay fit i'd like our chances at finishing strong if this was the team for the rest of the season. An occasional change i'd make would be Sturridge off, Drogba moved to the right (surprisingly he can actually cross the ball quite well) and Torres put on in the middle for fresh legs in the last 30 mins.

RC

Agree1 Disagree3

I think we need a front 3 containing Torres, Sturridge and Drogba, and a midfield of Lampard, Essien and Mata, we need goals so we need all our potential match winners on the pitch, personally id just go all out for it, i dont think anyone would mind us losing if we went for it, the problem would be losing if we diddnt go for it

SHED END

Agree1 Disagree2

So you think Torres has a better chance of getting us goals than Ramires ? I just don't see him being thee one to turn to

Nova

Agree1 Disagree0

Plus we can't go all attack cause Napoli will get chances and lets face it mata can't defend

Nova

Agree0 Disagree0

Of course i think Torres has a better chance of scoring than Ramires?? does anybody not? Napoli will score anyway i would imagine, i can see us having to score 3 or 4, it wont happen unless we attack, sitting back and hoping for 3 or 4 goals on the counter isnt an option for me, we would probably need to create 20 odd chances on the counter for that to happen

Let's sack avb we are no better off than were we was last year!Clearly no one likes his ideas so he went back on his idea last weekend and it worked.. So that telling you he is not the right man for the job my nan could mange Chelsea better than him!! Bring back the special one, bring him back will lift the players and the fans... Chelsea will be the greatest team in the prem again and also better our chance in the champ league!!

Believable6 Unbelievable3

Haha if only it was that easy. I honestly think it has more to do with the players we have at the club, rather than the manager.

Agree3 Disagree2

Stupid naive poster, really tired of people posting garbage on this forum, unless its constructive and viable what is the point? Unless making yourself look like a plonker is a goal of yours? Lets sack AVB and employ your nan, great idea.

PB

Agree2 Disagree1

I agree, his nan would do a much better job.

Could be good tonight if Sturridge starts down the middle and bangs a few in, may cause AVB to reconsider where he plays him

SHED END

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Bangs in a few. Made my day :)

Agree2 Disagree0

Problem is then we play Sturridge down the middle and who do we play on the RW? Cant really see AVB leaving Drogba and Torres on the bench and neither can play as a winger.

PB

Agree0 Disagree1

Play diamond if you have no wingers. Has he ever changed his prefered tactics, PB?

It took him a few months to put our best squad on the pitch against Bolton, it might take a few years to realize, that that there are formations besides 4-3-3.

JG

Agree2 Disagree1

But Sturridge cant play as a winger too but he plays there, Torres would do a better job on the right of a front 3, he drops deep and wide anyway so why not just play him there, and we've seen he can stick a cross in, Drogba tend to drift to the left and curl shots him on his right, why not jusy try

. . . .Cahill . . . Luiz . . . . .
Ivan . . . . . . . . . Cole
. . . Ramires . . Essien. . . .
. . . . Mata. . . . . .
. . .Torres. . . . Drogba. . .
. . . . Sturridge . .. . .

I think that would be a lot better, everybody who should be on the pitch is on the pitch, so much more flexable, Drogba and Sturridge could easily swap, instantly got a pacy left footed player on the left wing and a lump upfront, Easily turn more attacking by bringing on Lamps for Essien/Ramires, If Sturridge is having a quiet game get Lukaku on for him, even if hes just holding the ball up we'd have 3 or 4 pacy players bombing forward for the second balls, i just think the way we play is such a waste with the players we currently have, he should play with the current teams strengths til he gets the team he wants.

Saying that though i was happy with the team he picked against Bolton so il cut him some slack for the time being, just wish he would try new things,

SHED END

Agree3 Disagree4

Shed End, I must say I like the look of that team. However with AVB in charge you have more chance of winning the lottery on a leap year!

FT9

Agree0 Disagree0

Everyone needs to get off AVB's back about 433. He is trying to implement a system that barcelona has perfected, where players dont stay in their positions at all times but change between themselves during runs forward. Although we do not have the players to play like barcelona yet it is giving some of the team an idea of how to play that way for the next few years and will pay dividends.
