Just wondering what people's honest opinions are on here about Fabregas because I've been slated on here in the past for saying he's not as good as what people make him out to be. Yes I do think he is one of the best passers of the ball in world football but too often I think we're playing with ten men especially when he's in the midfield two. I'm hoping we go to 4-3-3 when Conte arrives which will also help Loftus-Cheek and Matic more I think and it will help Cesc more but his defensive side is still really poor. Someone like Gundogan although we aren't interested would be much better for us as apart from goals he's basically the complete midfielder who has an engine and he's great on the ball.
Just wondering what other people's opinions are and yours also Ed?

I think he's a world class players with many years left in him, but he has to adapt his play, so he can be more like Pirlo is and has been for the last couple of years. If he succeds in adapting his play, I think he'd become the next Pirlo.

Cesc is an absolute must for us, great technically and creates so many chances with his vision and football brain. Yes, he needs protection behind him but those players are easier to find. The truly gifted ones like Cesc are hard to come by. Play him in a midfield 3 with a solid and mobile defensive midfielder behind him and leave him to dictate the play.

If you seen his interview on sky sports then you would realise that the guy is a class act. He knows that for his game to tick then everyone around him has to work even harder. Going on the group of players we have at the moment then he has to start every game, not sure what formation suits him best but his vision and one touch passing are some of the best in the business. I wouldn't be surprised if conte gave him the armband for next season.

I think he has been our best player in the second half of the season, what we need to do is find the best system that suits him, defensive midfield isn't playing to his strengths we need to use his vision and passing and get others to do the dirty work for him.

He will not use 433 and yes he build a team around Fabregas as main playmaker.

28 Apr 2016 17:35:27
And Fabregas can't play like Pirlo since Pirlo is much more defensive and Fabregas much more offensive player.

Fabregas needs the men behind him and in front of him. At the moment Willian Oscar mikel ruin him.

As others have said he is very much a luxury player that requires two very mobile midfielders next to him however if you build a system around him he is a very good player that can dictate the tempo and hit passes that only maybe 3 other people in the world can play. The current system doesn't suit him in the slightest.

I think cesc legs are shot to bits but yet we play him deep and that's why we get over run in midfield! He has to play no10 or nothing! If you going to play him deep you got to play 3-5-2 and do what conte did with pirlo which might work but how do you fit hazard in playing that way.

Agree0 Disagree2

29 Apr 2016 08:45:59
In the 3-5-2 you can fit Hazard in as one of the front 2, I think this could be his best position but again only with the right players in midfield.

exactly Pinky. There are not many players like Fabregas and people who don't understand philosophy of Italian coaches would not be able to understand why is Fabregas ideal n10 for Conte.

Conte accommodated Pirlo by playing a 3-5-2 system and I would expect him to do the same for Fab.

If cesc plays it no10 or nothing! You can't play him anywhere else unless conte does what he did with pirlo! I can't go through another season of watching him play deep in a 2! He is lightweight no pace. Watch him at Barcelona in false 9 or just off the striker he was unreal and got goals. Special player that we using all wrong! Yes he can pick a nice ball over the top but he also better at finding them little passes that cuts open a defence.

I always read people suggesting that Cesc should be played in a more advanced position but in the 2 seasons he's been with us, when given a chance in a more advanced role what has he done? If anything he's less effective there. I think we need to see him in a midfield 3 with a more defensive minded player and an energetic box to box player (Matic (? ) and Nainggolan perhaps) . If we are really after Pjanic I'm not sure how both him and Cesc fit in the team though.

There is no doubt we currently have a superb youth squad and as always there is an outcry because they do not see first team action but go back over time and that is usually what happens, these excellent players at youth level do not develop sufficiently to play regularly in the EPL which is a strong league to play in. If you go back to the 1960's when Chelsea had a very strong youth squad and won the cup two years in a row, they had an all English team vying for senior status in a not ultra competitive league by today's standards and only five players became first team regulars and only two, Venables and Tambling reached International class. Fast forward to the 2000's and as successful as we were if you look through the squads there are virtually none that you would say were ever first team regulars or warranted being so. We have had Ake, Chalobah, Bruma, McEachran and a handful of others made cameo appearance but scour the list and if you were honest there is nobody that leaps out as a missed talent, most you would not even remember especially as they are not setting the world alight elsewhere. Likewise with our current team who are big powerful lads, there is every opportunity that most have peaked and will never scale premiership heights. Having watched a number of their matches in our youth cup and the European equivalent, I would put none into the first team as they would be lost. Ruben Loftus-Cheek is the one that has the physique and ability to make that jump but he is young and still has that youthful, "I've done enough" attitude that he developed when being a star of youth football and he could get away with it. You need that something extra to make the grade and when you look closely at Solanke, Musonda, Aina and Christensen for example, all below 21 making demands on the club because they think 'they deserve or their agent does' first team football, you are getting off on the wrong foot. At the end of the day the powers that be know their business better than we do.

I agree in much of what you say, but I'd say Christensen has more than proved that he's ready for first team action, being one of the most solid defenders in the Bundesliga this year. And I'm sure that he, regardless of him staying at Chelsea or leaving the club, will become an absolute world class player.

I want Christensen to be a hit, I really do but he has not been as good as a lot of you have made out. he has done well in a good team yes. baba rahman did that too and w ebought him for 20 mil, now what.

Agree0 Disagree1

28 Apr 2016 18:12:49
I assumed Christensen might be the talking point. He is a useful player BUT not as useful yet as he and his father think (shades of Bendtner there) . He is getting good press in a moderate team in a not very strong league overall. As was pointed out, Baba Rahman was this and he was that and we absolutely wasted £20m plus on him as he will never make it in our league. Obviously I want to see players come through rather than continuously supporting fresh faces every other season but the transition from youth to EPL is huge. As I have repeatedly said, I would prefer we loaned players out to Championship teams where there is stiff competition all season rather than these much weaker European ones but of course we do not know the deals involved when sending them abroad; I feel the players become detached from the English game and club.

I'm sorry, C1915, but I have to disagree. And strongly at that. Do you truly believe the Championship is a better league than the Bundesliga? The German league is a very good league, and a lot of good football is on display there every week. Sure, Bayern completely rule that league, but apart from that it's pretty competitive.
He's playing in a very good team at Gladbach, and playing football week in, week out. He's been very impressive, but I do believe he would benefit more from spending next season there as well. Also, we wouldn't be spending 20 million on him. He'd be free since he's our player. He'll be well worth giving a chance to if he keeps up his development.

28 Apr 2016 19:28:38
C1915, I got to correct you there. As a Dane, I've followed Christensen's development, and he is pretty much the opposite of Bendtner, he is humble, calm and intelligent. Furthermore, from my understanding, he and his dad never demanded him being a first team regular, they just wanted him to get some game time last season, and a loan this season, so he could prove himself. Personally, with his performances in Germany and for the Danish National Team in mind, I don't see why we shouldn't give him the chance when he returns in a year.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he has been excellent, you would have to be mad to let him go and not give him a chance next season.}

Jackson: You sound almost German. All about perception and I think two maybe three German clubs could cut it in the EPL. BMG are fifth at the last look and lost 13 games and look through the team and you probably would not give a second glance to any player other than Xhaka, that is why Christensen appears as a stand out. As I said I like players to come through, its what supporting your life long club is all about but in the short term I can see few making it just yet and I strongly believe that Christensen will never return to Chelsea.

I'm Belgian myself, but I do like the German league. There are quite a few clubs in Germany that play at a high level. Of course there's Borussia and Bayern. But other than those you've got Leverkusen, Gladbach and Schalke that are all good teams. Gladbach for example did not look out of place at all when they played City during the CL group stages.
As for players, I admit they perhaps haven't got as many household names as a lot of PL clubs do. But there are some quality players there (just less well known) . Dahoud is an exciting player, and Raffael as well. You may also remember Thorgan Hazard who isn't a bad player by any means.
The Bundesliga is a high level league, much better than the Championship. It's just a shame that Bayern are head and shoulders above the rest. So the other clubs are essentially fighting for 2nd place.

KTBFFH: Sorry, my reference to Bendtner was relating to their fathers doing too much talking on their behalf NOT the type of person. I hope Christensen proves me wrong but I think we will sell him.
