I believe so.

I think some fan's putting Sarri's system down and looking to change our style of play is laughable.

65-70% possession will look much better when we have a striker who can put the ball in the back of the net on a regular basis, a decent right winger and a replacement for Alonso.

We're a couple of tweeks away from having a very good team.

Maybe a little more than one or two tweeks away J but I agree with your overall assessment.

To be fair to Sarri, we did seem to be getting more players into the opponent's box yesterday so he is obviously tweaking the system as needs be.

A consistently goal scoring striker (preferably two, or one and a prolific goal-scoring midfielder/ rw, but then one can be greedy at Christmas time! ) would make huge difference given chances we're creating.

Absolutely, against Leicester we had sixty or seventy-odd percent possession and nearly twenty efforts on goal. It's our inability to convert chances that is hurting us. Higuain might not be a long term option but I'd lay money on him scoring 10 goals between January and the end of the season.

I've had enough of Alonso getting into the final third and laying a ball back rather than crossing, I've had enough of him being caught out of position too. I don't care how many free-kicks, or other goals, he scores - he is a weak link. The Algerian lad at Napoli, whose name escapes me, recently returned from injury - would be a great option and is exactly the type of full back we need on the left.

Pusilic would be an amazing signing in January - there's talk that he'd prefer Liverpool but I think Shaqiri is doing better than most expected him to do and is probably limiting the need for Klopp to strengthen there. I'd be pushing heavily for Pusilic in January.

Just read a comment, sorry can't remember who it was from but it said Emerson was good when he came on, he should start ahead of Alonso. I've honestly had enough of everyone hating on Alonso and preferring Emerson. He only played 5 mins! How can you say he deserves to start off that performance.

He didn’t do anything special all I remember was him miss placing an easy pass. I agree we should give Emerson a chance but I'm sticking with Alonso as he has been good all season, a few mistakes by never the less, good. Until his form drops massively and Emerson actually impressed me I’ll always say the same thing.

It seems as though fans just don’t like Alonso and want anyone to start above him. Remember the Liverpool game? Emerson was dreadful, always out of position. Then the next week we played them again with Alonso and he was a lot better.

Wow. Do you actually rate Alonso as a left back? I think a lot of fans overlook his inability in defence due to his scoring ratio. Let's not forget he wasn't signed to be a striker. Most of times he is in a no.9 position and is constantly out of position.

Emerson v alonso is one that rumbles on. Emerson does alonso on pace but Emerson dives in. I think Emerson will take over eventually. I don’t think alonso has been consistent this season. However I read he has hit the woodwork more than anyone else this season, 5 times. Funny how fickle we are. Those five go in and suddenly nobody is questioning alonso selection.
Funny how 6 inches makes someone a bad player.

Not saying he deserves a go after 5 minutes we’re saying for the last few 5/ 6 games alonso has been Terrible end of look at the game play.

28 Dec 2018 02:59:07
I judge defenders on defending and not goals. Whether he’s hit the post 5 times or so is irrelevant if he can’t defend.

Agree2 Disagree0

28 Dec 2018 07:54:15
Omg. Did I just read someone judge on Alonso on posts? Even if he had scored 5 that doesn't cover the cracks in his defending as a left back. Nicely said Kante.

29 Dec 2018 19:12:09
But he hasn’t been terrible. He’s been decent some games he’s not been great but neither has our whole team. Some games Azpi hasn’t been good but no one wants zappacosta to replace him? Emerson has looked decen. in the Europa league. Calm down everyone. I admit he should have a chance in the prem but if Alonso is playing good football and playing wellagainst the big prem mins why replace him with someone just because they looked good against Vidi.

Wow Ed001 :) you can't say that Man city getting away with so many fouls is conspiracy when Salah doesn't get banned for that dive ;)

Anyway have a good year mate title is liverpools to loose now :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - why? It was a pull on his arm, not sure why it is getting such coverage. If he was English we would never have heard a thing about it, like we don't for the numerous dives Alli and Kane do every game without a touch at all. Salah was fouled, went down too easily but so does every player. It is a bit different going down easily to going in and making a foul which risks injuring a player. I would rather he tried to stay on his feet but you can hardly say Liverpool are favoured when Arsenal (rightly) have a goal against them ruled out for the keeper having his hands on the ball before it is kicked out of his hands when the exact same incident saw a goal awarded against Liverpool. And I have never said it is a conspiracy anyway. Just stated a simple fact, they do get away with a lot more than others, just like Scholes used to, for example.}

27 Dec 2018 14:29:24
This is going to hurt defending LFC but unfortunately if he had his arm pulled and stayed up he wouldn’t of got the pen. Seen lots of fouls and players try to stay up and miss out when really it isn’t a foul only when a players back touches the floor, you don’t get anything for being honest, u feel it, go down, make it the refs choice,

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - that's what annoys me, he shouldn't have to go over but you are right, if he gets fouled and doesn't there is no way a ref will give a decision.}

27 Dec 2018 14:51:00
He went down way way too easy. Also after a second or so.

Anyway it would have not change the outcome as Liverpool seems to have finally clicked and is the real deal.

People blaming diving on the increase in foreign players has always made me laugh - I'm old enough to remember the number of penalties and free-kicks that Franny Lee, Rodney Marsh and our own David Speedie used to 'win' by diving.

Hi all, long time since posting (forgot my old username) but always read the site. First of all a much needed 3 points against a tough physical team away from home. Will take 3 points any way we can get ir over this time of year no easy games, just look at City and Arsenal.

Thought I'd throw a post up on who do think is the most underrated player in the premier league? Personally mine would be Son Heung Min, would absolutely love him at Chelsea! Honorable mentions go to Milner, Dave, Rudiger, Fernandinho and Maty Ryan.

Thoughts?

Son Heung Min is definitely not under-rated. Not to me, anyway.

I am not a fan of stats but i think most people would agree that Alonso started the season well and came in for high praise from Sarri.

I would like to know if Alonso's dip in form coincides with Hazards time out with injury and with Hazard now playing as a CF?

Just for the record I think Alonso had an OK game today.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Dec 2018 08:50:22
started well probably because he got a few goals tom more than his overall play been honest. ges a decent player but not a top class left back and probably 1 of the slowest full backs in the league.

I look at Digne who Everton bought last summer for £18m and it just makes me shed tears over our scouting system.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Dec 2018 14:16:20
MDW, our scouting system is ok and compares well with other top clubs.

There will always be a player that we can look at and ask the question, why didn’t we sign him or what a bargain that player was!

It might help if we didn’t change managers every few years!

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Dec 2018 01:29:14
I’ve not really watched Digne play, but he’s been scoring quite a bit. Isn’t that why portions of our fans rave about Alonso, because he scores goals?
