If conte is to leave ( almost a dead cert ) who is best suited to us, eds input also welcome, reading loads about touchel at the moment? Linked with psg chelsea arsenal but when he left Dortmund there was slot of negative press about him and his methods? Attacking is all I know? Read boys about falling out with board and players?

{Ed001's Note - I think it will be Tuchel but he is not who I would go for as he is confrontational and meddling. Also he dicks about with tactics trying to be clever but it was backfiring on him badly.}

26 Mar 2018 19:28:29
Yeah that’s sort of stuff I’ve read, worry about Enrique too as although he won a lot, always helps with front 3 of brilliance in Suarez Messi and Neymar, a confrontational meddling manager, . Roman will be looking forward to that.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Enrique was a bit mad at Barca and he never went there with a good rep either. I would take Tuchel over him anyday. Marcelino, though also a bit mad, might be a good one to look at.}

Every year we seem to say it but this summer will / needs to be biggest clear out and show ambition, with stadium and Manchester teams city especially pulling away., the right manager is huge decision,

Jardim would probably be my preference. Or maybe the seemingly underrated Lucien Favre.

ED01, Do you have a good idea it will be Tuchel or just a hunch? I would like the Napoli Manager although this is his first decent season or Allegri. His tactical substitutions against Spurs were a masterclass in the round of 16. Would like Carlo as well. Some big names out there.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is not Sarri's first decent season at all. Allegri is as defensive as Conte. Tuchel is only interested in a job with Champions League winning possibilities, it is either PSG or Chelsea that he is after. On the basis that I can't see PSG being interested in him, they like big names, I think Chelsea is the most likely.}

26 Mar 2018 21:13:28
Thanks for your reply ED01. I don't think we will be in the Champions league next Season so would Tuchel still join us?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - potential Champions League winners though as there is the money there to spend. I think he would but it is not the right way to go for Chelsea. The big issue he had in Dortmund was with Mislantot over Tuchel wanting more control over transfers. He is not going to get that at PSG or Chelsea. It is a recipe for disaster.}

I Would Love Sarri, Also Jardim is a good shout. I have my reservations about Tuchel too. Anyway what about Leipcig Manager? Maybe not the biggest name in the pot but doing a dam good job in Germany.

Who’s the young manager in Germany gaining big reputation. ?

Julien Nagellsman, managing hoffienhiem im mostly sure.

Regarding Tuchel, the club knows what they're doing and they'll have an understanding with Tuchel regarding transfers, it shouldn't be a problem

We'll see what happens but again like usual, better signings are needed.

Chelsea have a huge problem with the formation and the current playing staff. 3-4-3 is too easily found out if you don't have the right players. This is all just my opinion on where your problems are.

For a start, a back 3 invites pressure and immediately concedes possession unless you have 2 really top midfielders. In Kante, Chelsea have 1. Selling Matic was a huge oversight. You can cover a slightly lesser midfielder with a 3 man midfield but if you want a back 3, you have to sacrifice a forward to play 3 in midfield and the system becomes even more defensive and invites more pressure. I hate it when Klopp puts on Matip to see out a game because our whole team drops 20 yards deeper. It only really works if you have a player like Luiz who constantly pushes the backline up and wants to be on the ball. A player Conte has exiled.

The lack of bodies in midfield can leave the front 3 in no man's land too, with a huge gap in between. This usually results in two of the forwards dropping to try and get on the ball but then you leave 1 man up top, extremely isolated and with too much to do. Maybe if you had a player with the power and control of Costa, Zlatan, Lewandowski or Kane it could work. Losing Costa and replacing him with a couple of pretty boys from the continent was a shocking error in judgement. The first choice option was Lukaku and he doesn't have the touch to definitely do what Conte wants either so that was Not a guaranteed solution.

For me though, the absolute worst issue with the system, is the wing backs. A wing back is either a full back who can't defend (Alonso) or a winger who can't attack (Moses) . So you end up with two at best decent players in the team who are not spectacular and they are both a liability in defence, and constantly at fault for the breakdown of an attack. Alonso does the role to a decent standard, but Moses is truly average. I could see this working if you could get a player of Zanetti or Marcelo's quality, but it just limits your options in the Market as it is such a bespoke role. You usually just end up shoehorning in a winger or a full back. It is a waste of two out of eleven players in my opinion but if you get the spine right, they can flourish with the freedom and a lack of responsibility. As Alonso does at times.

Conte has to go for me. He has shown no ability to build a team, only to win with one he largely inherited. He had 4 players who made his system work; Luiz, Matic, Kante and Costa. For whatever reason, only one of those players is left in the team. He can argue until the cows come home that he wanted Virgil, Vidal and Lukaku to replace them. Fact is, none of them chose to play for him.

If Conte stays, he needs to target Stones, Doucoure and Lewandowski plus keep hold of Kante. Stones can do what Luiz did and pull the defence forward, Doucoure will give back the power and aggression lost in the midfield when Matic left, and Lewandowski has the strength and skill combination to hold up the ball whilst support breaks forward. Sort out the spine, and the rest of the team can function around it.

Players like William and Pedro are not the problem. Just an unbiased opinion of a rival fan. Apologies in advance it is was unwelcome!

That midfield is awful it’s been our weakest link this year and you don’t want to change it? I’d put Luiz there.

And what on Earth has Boga done for Birmingham to be given a chance here?

Hi eds would like to hear your opinions on Hazard recently I've ever so slightly changed my opinion from amazing player to a good player based on he never turns up against the really big teams and dominates . I think he's amazing against the likes of Stoke and west Bromwich but the top six and European teams he goes missing. on that note if he was sold for ridiculous money I wouldn't be to disappointed your thoughts cheers.

{Ed001's Note - I just think he is not being used in the right way. You look at the best players around the world and they only become great when used in the right way. If you tried to get Icardi to link up play or be a target man, he would be crap. Give him the ball in the box and he is lethal. You could go on with players like Salah etc. Hazard is the same, he needs to be played in the right way to get the most out of him and that is not happening this season.

My gripe with him is that he is not mentally strong enough to just go and play his game to his best, he will sulk instead and not put it in on the pitch. He is Chelsea's star man, if he goes out and does his best, plays his way, no manager is going to drop him or do anything but build around him.}

Cheers ed for reply agree with everything you said.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome gg. It's a shame as he has the talent to step up but is not stamping his mark on games.}

26 Mar 2018 09:09:31
Ed what's your view on a potential striking pair of Icardi and Morata, should Hazard go?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - on paper they look a good combo, but it would mean a massive change in the way Chelsea play, as Icardi is pretty useless outside of the box and has little involvement in the build up. I would be more worried about Icardi's attitude off the pitch to be honest. His wife, that he stole off a team-mate who had tried to help him, is his agent, and she is apparently really difficult to deal with as well. So I would avoid him and hang on to Hazard if that was the choice.}

26 Mar 2018 10:34:55
Cheers for the reply. I remember reading about that at the time - when he was at Sampdoria, right? Id rather see Hazard stay too, but in more of an attacking setup.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I forget where they were but the whole thing got really nasty and a lot still haven't forgiven him.

Agreed on Hazard, he needs more help in the final third. No point him beating someone and playing the ball into the box to one man, as he is on the run and not always got the balance or the time to look and pick someone out. He just needs to be putting it into an area, but you need people to be attacking those areas for it to be a danger.}
