guys where is all the sturridge hate coming from?? i mean i know he's a bit greedy but hes 22, young, fast, skillful and our top goalscorer who's playing a position he hasn't played until this season. far too critical in my opinion

Vincent

Believable7 Unbelievable2

I don't understand the hate either. Yes he can be selfish but that's not necessarily a bad trait for a striker (we all know he's not a winger) he wants to play up front and score goals, that's his game. I'm pretty sure if he got a run as striker he would score a damn sight more than Torres and Drogba. It's just unfortunate we don't have much depth on the right.

KP

Agree4 Disagree0

It isn't Sturridge hate it's just simply a case of if we're going to discuss our ideal team at least be realistic. I was saying that I can't understand why people would like to see him in a starting 11 along side the likes of Moura, Hazard, Di Maria etc when he clearly isn't up to standard. Maybe he'll prove me wrong but I just don't think he's as good as people want to think he is.

RC

Agree4 Disagree3

Well first of all i dont really follow. you say ideal and then you say realistic when the two aren't synonymous. ideally i'd like ronaldo, messi, cavani upfront but for me sturridge is a realistic starter for us in the future, and also a lot more realistic than people wanting to see 4/5 world class players coming in - all of which are starters

Vincent

Agree3 Disagree1

Greedy aint the word, have you not seen him slow our play down? that was the reason people dint lik anelka, at the end of the day hes either a centre forward for us or should leave. hes not exactly messi, nani, pedro, silva, dimaria so what makes him good enough for a club lik us. plus i hate cocky big headed people who think thr better than thy r

arsenal fan here,

I think we can both catch spurs. baring in mind we can win our games, they will lose to united, only leaving us 4 points behind, lose to everton away 1 point, then down to you guys to beat them at the bridge!

Believable7 Unbelievable0

Where do we sign haha, if we beat West Brom next week then we're on it!, would rather see Arsenal in there than spurs, hopefully they'll lose Harry in the summer, then it could be bye bye Modric and Bale and bye bye threat

Can someone please help as i do not understand why people continue to put Sturridge in a 'dream Chelsea Team'. If we're dreaming/hoping/wishing to have such players as Di maria, Higuain, Modric, Hazard, Moura then at least lets dream of getting rid of the one footed greedy moaning Sturridge. He just isn't what i'd call 'Chelsea quality' i'm afraid.

RC

I think at the minute its about priority mate, there is other areas that need addressing first, I still wouldnt get rid of him anyway hes a good player to have in the squad

Agree3 Disagree2

I guess you're right- a good squad player to have at most. It just makes me laugh that his name is used right next to the likes of the players i mentioned in my earlier post.

I want you all fantasy football managers and kid supporters to take a pause and face the reality of actual football itself.

Take a look at a few exceptional athletes like Maldini, Scholes, Giggs, van der Saar and a rare few likes.

Tell me, have they not been playing top level football well into their thirties? Not winning championships and leading by example?

Then what kind of dummies are you to be willing to oust our "old guard" out? You surely can't play 6-7 gents in their mid 30-ies in your starting lineup, but you surely would benefit from a few. Lets agree that Lamps, Terry and Drogba are still providing it. Cole and Cech are having not the best of seasons by their standards and Malouda should have left years ago.

If we sort the discipline of our defending and marking, suddenly both Cole and Cech will look alright. It would just be a matter of managerial decisions and defensive coaching. You can't teach old dog new tricks, so if AVB want to revolutionize, then let them go and pay the consequence.

But that is not the way for a smart man to act. Play to their streghts and you'll get a result in the end. They care for this club much more than the revolving managers will ever will. And given the fact that our owner like to let people know who's club is it, we won't breed our SAF or Wenger anytime soon, of ever.

So stick with our players and do what is needed to be done in the transfer window - upgrade Malouda, Bosingwa, Mikel, Meirelles and Torres and for the love of God, stop buying from Liverpool, they come broken with no money back guaranteed or warranty.

JG

Believable5 Unbelievable1

Our old guard undermines every manager that doesnt give them what they want. Frank hasnt had an exceptional season by his standard, but with the armband on he ups his game. We need to change the core of the team next season if AVB is still here or nothing will change in the way we play. I dont think we need to get rid of them but need to let them know they will not be automatic starters and bring in some world class players to challenge their spots, our problem atm is our depth.

Fully agree that we need to stop given liverpool money, if they were capable of spending it wisely they would be a threat.... luckily, they are not.

Melbourne CFC

Agree1 Disagree1

Personally I don't think that AVB is the man for us. However he is our manager and I support him and the team. Reality is we are in a dog fight for 4th place, we have some really tough games coming up. The evidence from our performances this season are that the so called old guard are still our best players and we look far stronger whe they are in the team. AVB's lot like Mereilles, Boswinga etc just are not up to Chelsea standard. If AVB does not pick Frank and Essien every week then I do't think we will get 4th place, however if he does I think we at leats have a fighting chance.
If we don't have champions league next season forget about any evolution, no top players will want to join us.

Agree1 Disagree1

A well taken point Melbourne CFC, our old core players need to be replaced by world class players, but we do not have a cue of Messi's lined up at the Cobham gates willing to pull up the blue shirt.

When Lampard is sitting on the bench to overlook a disaster called Meireles, you must agree that this is not a world class replacement. If you consider that not only do we need to replace Lampard, Drogba, Anelka, Cole and Terry, we also need to replace Obi, Kalou, Malouda, Bosingwa, Meireles. That is just not happening. This is real life. We will have a few coming, i'd say we are lucky to get a couple of noteworthy this summer. But that is it.

We struggle to attract top players, why people just can't accept the fact that we are no Barca or Real. Not Bayern, Milan or Man United.

We were exceptionaly lucky to get Mata this summer. Lets just hope for some luck next time around.

Agreed last season we missed ballack and carvalho for sure , even belletti at some points

I guess a draw wouldnt be that bad.

I think a draw or arsenal win would suit chelsea best though if we are to get top 3. josh

Dont know what i want, Spurs win in theory would be best, but its go's against my natural instincts willing Tottenham to do well, il take a draw with Bale and RVP injuries please

I cant bare to watch arsenal win, although it is nice to watch spuds loss. We are still 4th if it stays under 3.

Really happy with that performance, lineup and most importantly result.

I think that its going a bit too far to state that we have turned the hypothetical corner but it was a ‘must win game’ so, for the first time in what seems like an age, this team did what it needed to do.

Right now that is our best back four by a long, long way. If they continue to perform like that, against bigger and better teams, Terry may struggle to break back into the side. In the summer promote Hutchinson and Chalobah from the youth / reserve teams and sign a new right back. Bosingwa shouldn’t be considered again…anywhere! I think Fereira will retire and get a ‘background role’ within the club; just a hunch!

I agree that Essien was pivotal in the overall performance of the team, he allowed David Luiz to be more expressive (what a goal) without it putting pressure on the rest of the team. Neither Miereles, nor Obi Mikel, has the discipline to play the holding role in our system (sell both in the summer); it has to be Essien or Romeu starting there for the rest of the season.

Ramires remains one of the first names on the team sheet. McEachran to play a more prominent role in the first team and another young’ish midfielder (at the risk of angering some people on here…Rodwell?) should be brought into the squad to replace Miereles and Obi Mikel next season.

My personal ideal formation would include a more creative attacking midfielder playing centrally; unfortunately we don’t really have one at this moment in time. Yes Mata can play centrally but then Malouda or Kalou get played out on the left (not ideal). If Lampard can put the sort of performance in we saw yesterday (the old Frank Lampard) with some regularity, alongside Essien and Ramires, then this will go a long way to securing the all important top four place. Sign a player such as Lucas Moura in the summer.

Sturridge and Mata looked good yesterday; they are, rightly, going to start most games for the rest of the season. De Bruyne will eventually, after a season out on loan, add to the width in the squad but another wide player (preferably a right sided player) will need to be added in the summer; not one who gets sent straight out on loan!! Malouda and Kalou should both be sold / let go.

I hate to say it, I really do, but……for Torres……it is over! I have tried to believe that it will eventually come good but a man, who knows much more about scoring goals than any of us, called Alan Shearer summed him up perfectly on MOTD. If he doesn’t get into goal scoring positions he won’t score goals; his confidence is completely shot and he is scarred to take a shot on. Continuing to play him ahead of Drogba and even Lukaku (who needs a season on loan at a Premiership club) would be fourth place suicide. Swap deal with At. Madrid for Falcao seems like a perfect deal for all parties.

United fan here in peace!

I must agree with most of your points over your strengths and weaknesses. I think you desperately need a creative CM like Modric and a top Forward in the league of Higuain, RVP, Cavani or Lavezzi then you will be strong again next year

Ideally a good RB and wide-man squad player would go down well too

Hasnt been plain sailing for AVB this year, but I think he's been trying to play his new system without all the necessary players to play that way.

He will need more time and the chance to change the squad in the summer before we can see the true results

Tbf, had Torres and Luiz settled in as expected and had you got Modric too...I think you would have had a good team this year, with a line up along these lines:

-------------Cech------------
Ivanovic---Luiz---Terry----Cole
---------Modric---Essien-------
------------Lampard-----------
Sturridge------------------Mata
------------ Torres-------------

As things have panned out Torres may need replacing though....

Now we have somethink to build on because today was our best performance in a long time.Nice attacking lineup, luiz and essien played excellent.I think fourth spot would be a huge achievement for us especially how we have been playing this season.I hope we can sign drogba for another season or two, even if he is used as a sub.Torres sadly it hasn't worked out for us or him so I say if we could agree some sort of deal with athletico Madrid regarding a swap with falcao then I'm sure all parties would be interested.Hopefully after this win today, the players will be lifted because I know I am as a fan.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Poor first half, encouraging second half. Better team selection. Bolton have been s**t all season even Wigan beat them. We are far from out of the woods yet.

Papering. Over. The. Cracks.

Believable4 Unbelievable3

The right result, shows how far we have slipped getting excited about beating the 2nd bottom team. Looks like AVB has been told to play the ''old gaurd'' if he wants to keep his job. He looked disingenuous in his praise for Lampard during his tv interviews, lets hope he sticks with that team for next week.
