Hi Ed’s,

Apologies if this has been answered before but it seems that it’s almost a foregone conclusion that Conte will not be our manager next season. As a result I was wondering whether he is likely to be sacked or just walk? Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - would you walk and give up millions of pounds?}

26 Apr 2018 17:25:45
Nope but to what end? Is he willing to stay another year for the money?

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - if the club do not push him out of the door with a pay off, of course he will stay.}

Fair enough, cheers ed, hopefully if that does happen that he gives us his all next season.

{Ed001's Note - I am sure he would and has been doing so.}

Yeah, I don't think Conte is one to just stay for the sake of it and not give his all. The man's a born winner, and has a fire within him that you don't see often.

Wherever he is, I'm fairly certain he'll always try his absolute best.

I hope he stays next season.
I just don’t fancy the turmoil but if he does stay I hope he shows some more flexibility in our style/ shape.

Whether Conte stays or not, Abramovich must back whatever manager in this summer's transfer window - if we are to compete with City, we must match their spending.

We will not be able to match City in spending power.

That’s one of the reasons why I think he might stay.
I think, unless the atmosphere between players and the coach becomes completely toxic the club would prefer to spend the money on players rather than the exit cost of contracts.
On top of that exit cost the club could also have to dish out some dosh on signing a new manager and his staff.
I’m not convinced that the club would think that would be a worthwhile use of funds.

The club are aware Conte wants to leave and Conte is aware the club want to appoint a new manager. It is a game of cat and mouse. As far as player recruitment is concerned nothing changes as the club will buy and sell players anyway as is the model being used. A lot of fans feel the manager should choose his own players 100% as is the case with Pep and some others but as has been explained numerous times Chelsea, and a lot of European sides follow a different model where the club, often with manager input, buy the players they feel are needed and assemble a squad for the head coach, be it Conte or whoever to work with. Conte new this when he accepted his multi million pound contract. Despite many on here wishing it was different or being critical of the club for using this model it is what it is and will not change at this moment. Indeed, I imagine work is already under way to bring in new recruits as this transfer window is short compared to previous years. By the way I'm not saying I agree or disagree with the Chelsea model but just reiterating how it works and the fact that it will not change at this moment in time.

What we don't know is what Conte and Chelsea discussed when he was appointed. Into his second season almost from the end of our title winning one he raised the issue of team quality and has not stopped about transfers since which makes me think he thought he had an understanding of some kind. If you look at the players we bought, four were injured or coming back from lengthy injuries and £34m player barely got a look in which then begs the question "who put the model together". If Conte goes and the club appoint a new manager with the proviso "this is your squad, we'll chip in a couple more players, get on with it" it is doubtful we will get anyone that will take us forward and we have certainly lost a massive amount of ground this season. If they adopt that position then selling Hazard and Courtois and a few others and recycling the money will be the only option.

Catalan newspaper, Sport, have stated that Luis Enrique is very close to joining Chelsea.

What an utterly miserable appointment this will/ would be. People will point towards his treble winning success with Barca, but truth be told, he had one of the greatest front three to have ever graced the game leading the line for him. The side would have won the treble even with my grandmother in charge.

Opinions on Luis Enrique, ED001, or even Ed002? I can't help but think we'll be looking for a new gaffer this time next year.

{Ed001's Note - I was only talking about him yesterday on Arsenal's site. I am not a fan at all. I was in Spain for 6 months while he was in charge of Barca and so got stuck watching a fair bit of them and his press conferences etc. He did not impress me at all. Maybe he would be in the short term to appease those players who are not with Conte, but longer term he is going to end up the same way. His press conferences were bizarre as well. Head scratching, that would be a good description for them. It just seems an odd choice as he was just another coach benefitting from having a great team gifted to him, rather than a great coach who benefits a team.}

I doubt very much that we would appoint Enrique and would be disappointed if we did.

Got a feeling conte is going to start 2 upfront against Swansea, would like to see hazard in that free roll just behind the strikers. Still not the formation I would play but I quite liked it against Burnley.

Have to agree about Hazard. I think he's at his best when he's in behind a front one or two.

I wanna see a fearless conte now, go out and really wanna play and win games, 2 up top and hazar behind, barkley get some minutes, Emerson carry on showing his s good player and get some pressure of spurs.

I’m not very good at predicting or understanding formations but I do agree Matt, it would be nice to see us finish the season with some pride, passion and style!
