Yesterday showed us what we're going to miss when Terry retires. We have no leadership whatsoever without him. And I'm not making Cahill a scapegoat but why has he gone so downhill. If we need a leader after Terry is Varane really rhe answer? Is he actually a leader? Everyone only wants Varane for his pace to be able to play him with Terry. He's a good player don't get me wrong but there's a reason why he's on the bench instead of Pepe. We haven't got one fast centre half oh hang on we have TOMAS KALAS! You look at our back 5 with Matic. Apart from Azpilicueta there is no real pace there to play a higher line. Ivanovic is a beast but when he's at RB he's too attacking and leaves the defense exposed. Then you have Cahill who's been terrible. Terry and Azpi for me are world class. So is Ivanovic BUT only when he's played centre half I feel. He's more suited there, big, strong and also quite quick. He should be next to Terry for me with Azpi RB and Filipe LB till the end of the season. That would be my back four. Zouma isn't a reliable centre half who can rotate with Terry yet I think he needs a loan somewhere where he will play like Leicester or Villa but probably Besiktas. KALAS should have been rotating with Terry this season. He is rapid. He got chucked in at the deep end last year against Liverpool and he proved his worth and against Leicester. We need Terrys leadership and positioning next year and if we just need pace why spend it on Varane when we have KALAS who was great when called upon. That's what I would do anyway with Cahill fourth choice. Personally I see AZPILICUETA as our next captain after Terry he's the next Philip Lahm and he gives his all.

Fabregas will be next captain, and I'd take Varane right now exactly what's needed.

Wouldnt be happy with fabregas being a captain

Fabregas are you joking? Wow. Great player but not Chelsea through and through for me. Ivanovic and Matic aren't great at speaking English. only AZPI for me.

There aren't 5 players in the world capable of leading like terry. I think the thing with ivanovic is we currently depend on our fullbacks to go deep into the attacking third but he doesn't have the recovery pace to run a winger down that Luis and Azpilicueta have.

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't really think it matters who's chelsea through & through mate it's leadership & organisation skills, other than JT there isn't many players as vocal as him, maybe Cahill or matic

Agree0 Disagree0

Although brana is a solid strong unit, he is leaving very exposed when playing at right back, his poor passing and losing possession and terrible crosses from wide are terrible and wasteful. Stick him inside with jt, play luis and Dave. As for captain we will never get a leader like john terry! Never ever. As for a new centre back varane is a must now. But what bugs me is kalas should of been here this season!! You don't keep Liverpool at bay last season if your just an average centre back, he was fantastic in that game.

One thing I read this weekend which really hit home was when ELI said the reserves don't seem to be pushing the starters. When I think about it besides zouma, Felipe Luis, and cech I really don't feel that guys are threatening the guys ahead of them. Schurrle and salah have been so poor over the last couple months that it's no wonder Willian has become an automatic selection. Between Remy and drogba nobody's really made their case as to why they should be the undisputed #2 striker. There's a few guys where injuries have played a decent part in curtailing their performance (Ramires and schurrle). That said I feel this lack of competition has lead to starters potentially being more lackadaisical and getting additionally fatigued since jose isn't comfortable rotating. That said it could be an interesting summer with many "reserves" being linked with a move (schurrle, rami, salah, and Remy), drogba retiring, and loanees pushing for integration (Traore, van ginkel, hazard, and piazon).

Chelsea must do everything they can to purchase Paul pogba, the lad is a class act. I know we have an interest, I just hope Romans team are pushing hard to seal a deal. I think of we win the league that would go a long way to securing the likes of pogba, similar to the way hazard chose chelsea after winning champions league. I repeat pogba is a must even if oscar needed to be sold to raise funds. I only say oscar as if pogba came in then I don't see a position for oscar to play.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He's been scoring a lot as of late, and some great goals as well. What a player!
Oscar is essential to the team though and the way in which they play. He's also pretty versatile so we shouldn't sell him.
I'm all for Pogba, and have been for a while now. I'd love for the club to get him, however expensive he may turn out. But I fear we'll be blown out of the water by United, Madrid or PSG for his services. Even if we win the league this season. It's going to be a sad day when he ends up at one of our rivals.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just saw his involvement in the 2nd goal during today's game. The guy's freakishly talented, my god. Why o why didn't we get him when he left United.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jackson - he turned us down. sometimes you can't always get a player just because you want him.

Agree0 Disagree0

I know, Steve (didn't actually know that he turned us down, but I know you can't get every player). He's just ridiculously talented and scoring some crackers this season. He'd fit in fantastically.
Back to reality though, let's get RLC some game time and let's develop him into a world beater :)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Actually Manchester United rejected a cash offer from Chelsea for the player 6 months before he left.}

Damn, now I hate United even more!
Cheers Ed :)

Agree0 Disagree0

I see us as a realistic option for pogba, Madrid cannot just buy everyone. As far as I'm concerned whoever signs for PSG is throwing their career away as the French league is so poor, it's just a league which produces players for top leagues. Barca transfer ban, city somehow seem to be able to bend FFP rules but would still need to sell at least one of there top players. UTD are not the team they once where, so maybe chelsea could be his destination.
We can all hope

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea remain keen on Paul Pogba and would like to strike a deal for next summer - and this will most likely be a cash plus player offer in the first instance. Although Real Madrid moved on from their previous interest, there is every chance of a summer offer including players in part exchange. With Barcelona unable to sign players before 2016 and PSG and Manchester City in a difficult situation with UEFA and subject to financial sanctions, that effectively only leaves Manchester United and Bayern Munich as potential suiters. Although there are those at Manchester United who would like to push for a deal there is some reticence still and there is another issue that would need to be overome. However, I would not discount both PSG and Manchester City selling players to raise the funds for a Pogba bid.}

Ed has stated that on here how United didn't want him to join us. No matter how you look at it united would always be hated by most, for what ever reason for me they fortified it when I read that Pogba could have come but they turned it down cause we are in the same league yet we sold mata to them and the goo s sold van persie. I came to the conclusion that I would forever hate man utd. Douche bags. Thanks for the work on the site Ed. :)

Agree0 Disagree0

This might be me being a negative Nancy, but I suspect he'll end up at United. His agent recently spoke about Pogba still holding United in high esteem etc and that kinda makes me believe that he'll go back there. They also have crazy financial power so they'd be my guess.

It's an interesting one for sure. United and us have quite a bit of cash to be able to spend. I wouldn't rule out PSG though as they could offer the like of Cavani, veratti, and Marquinhos depending on how desperate they are. Madrid are also looking to move on the likes of benzema, Isco, and khedira. It really just depends on what Juve are looking for in return as there will be a ton of options.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the way he's playing at the moment it's going to cost someone £60-£80m

I think we need more steel and pace at our cb and Cdm matic is great at breaking up plays and shielding our defenders who are not that fast either and coupled with this we have good creative players who don't know how or when to make the right pass in the final 3rd or score a goal (willian). if our strikers have a bad day and matic is injured we struggle or lose we have gifted youths in our system (rlc baker ake THazard Bramford etc) we need to show some faith in our investment the best players aren't always outside.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So you would prefer Bamford over Remy or Drogba? Or T.Hazzard over Willian or Salah? I would like to see youth given a chance, but to think they would come straight in and do the job is some what naive. They would need time to develop into the squad. It's about time we win the EPL and CL whilst other teams are in transition, we don't need another period of that ourselves.

Agree0 Disagree0

I get what you're saying, Blue, but yes I for one would prefer Thorgan Hazard over Salah. I'd prefer Atsu and Traore over Salah as they've got much better close control than Salah. And that close control is really important in our team to contribute to the attacking moves, especially in matches where we're likely to have a lot of possession.
And I'm a bit surprised that when Mikel went off Mourinho didn't trust Ake or RLC to play against a League 1 side. If he doesn't think Ake can handle that level, what game time will they ever get?

Agree0 Disagree0

Im not saying don't buy good players I would love to see progba reus and the works but but do we want another situation like matic where we end up buying a player back becuz we didn't give them enough chance to show the class they possess. i'm just saying find a balance. especially now when really have a whole bunch of gifted youths who are so desperate to please and work there socks off to make it in the team

Agree0 Disagree0

One_il - I agree with the sentiment however Matic is not an example of not being a chance. Matic was transformed into the player he is now due to Benfica selling Javi Garcia. Jorge Jesus played him as a DM following Garcia's sale, a position he hadn't played in before. over that season he became a key player for them in the new position. We absolutely have the talent knocking on the door, I'd hope the very brightest talents get the opportunities they deserve (Brown, Baker, RLC, Boga, etc.) but I won't gold my breath. I hope I'm wrong!

Agree0 Disagree0

Josh mcceachran. a prime example once extremely highly rated but you keep sending the kids to play in the championship they'll never make it to the prem out of all big teams us and city are the worst when it comes to developing players look at utd arsenal and Liverpool and they all have youths they have developed who do we have?
sadly we never seem to be able to develop our youths

Every time Matic doesn't play, we struggle. Forget Fabregas, forget Costa, Matic is the best buy of Jose's Second Coming.

Agree. We need a good back up player who can give him a rest or play alongside him in tough games.
