When we were at our best last season Costa and Fabregas were sensational. When they lost form in the second half of last season and this season we looked less than good and struggled. Glad they are looking sharper because we rely on those two so much. Willian is sensational and Zouma is getting better all the time. If Hazard finds some form we might finish well. Great to beat Arsenal as well. Can't stand that lot.

First half we were brilliant, we should have scored 4-5 goals. The whole team was really good. But there was serious lack of confidence. If we win next two games we might end up between 4th and 6th place in the end.
Fabregas is a true number ten so I recon he shouldn't play next to Matic.
Greetings to all Chelsea fans!

Watched the highlights of the match again and have to say that after giving Mertesacker a red card, Clattenburg seemed to go out of his way to give Arsenal the best chance to equalise. From not giving a pen for Koscielny on Fabregas, not giving a foul when Courtois was clattered and dropped the ball to giving fairly cheap yellows to Mikel and Fabregas.

25 Jan 2016 10:50:57
I agree, fuser. The incident with Courtois gets called a foul like 99.9% of the time. I'd have been furious if they'd scored off of that. The foul on Fabregas as well. He clearly made no play for the ball and obstructed Fab's path. Clear pen IMO and possibly even a yellow, which would've been Koscielny's second yellow. All in all, I'm just happy we won.

Sky Sports now reporting Teixeira's choice is now Liverpool.
Did he ever agree term with us?
If so what changed?
or is this just total BS to begin with?
we need Strengthening he would have been a great buy, good age and actually knows where the goal is.
If we are not going to strengthen fine, start using the talent we have, we are not going to get top 4 this year so give the youngsters experience Kennedy and RLC are already showing great promiss.
I don't think there will be any incommings, just a little pissed off when we are going to miss out on a talent that all but seemed nailed on with only the price to be agreed.

Great win today!

Beat a side that are title contenders. and to let them only have 1 shot on target. Good performance all round. Yes I agree with everyone . that we didn't play particularly well in the second half but we still had the best chances to extend our lead. Remy had two golden chances.

Everyone is saying how crap hazard played but he was only on for 15 mins and created two chances for remy . If remy had scored them everyone wouldn't talking about how well he played. He has just come back from injury give him a chance.

Costa looked sharp and back to his old self. Great to see him not react to anything.

Fab again looked to have great range of passing and surprisingly made the most tackles too.

Mikel again was great sitting there.

Zouma and Terry played well.

Courtios looked a bit nervous in my eyes. Missed two catches.

Willian just suberb again . His runs and work rate.

That's been him all season . hopefully now with Hiddink he will come good for us again.

Hazard did look fat but to be fair we were extremely poor in the second half so hazard didn't have much chance to impress. Although he did provide two great opportunities for Remy to score.

Blimey,
Do you lot only play well against Arsenal? Lol.

Fair play Gents, can't complain too much about today.

The sending off (Déjà Vu) didn't help, but was well deserved. No complaints from me.

Was a close match and thought we did well bearing in mind were were 1-0 down and a man down.

Thought we showed character, if nothing else.

Shout out to Cesc and that bloke you have upfront, who can play when he can be arsed :-)

Good luck for rest of the season, glad we don't have to play you anymore as I think Mourinho's shadow is still hanging over us, lol.

Fair play to your very own CFC forever, top lad who joined us on the live chat.
Didn't gloat, brag or fish. Just good football banter.

Enjoy your win, you deserved it Gents.

Respect to you, Dags. I actually thought you guys played better a man down than during the first 20 minutes. Football's a funny game :-)
Hope we can make top 6. And apart from that, I actually hope it's you guys that win the title. I hate Vardy so don't want Leicester to win it. I can't get myself to accept Spurs winning it. And I'd rather you win it than City. So good luck!

Dags, Good on you fella. We all love football and support who we do. I play in a team of Arse supporters down here and agree with posts above, that, if we can't win it (which we won't) hope you do!
Just cause you support someone else doesn't make you the enemy (deluded perhaps, and hopefully seeing the blue light at some stage, nah, not going to happen eh lol) but your balanced input on here is appreciated by me.

Well watched the game and thought it was a good team performance.
Trouble is from when there player goes off, clattenburg never gave us another decision.
No pen very few fouls every thing went there way.
I don't mean this literally but I hope hazard is injured because if not his performance was disgraceful. He made no effort. Also if remy thinks he should playing he's an idiot, because he was worse than hazard. He's lazy and constantly offside. This is imo.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

24 Jan 2016 18:50:07
Can't agree more, missed effort from both guys. Anyway without trying hazard made 2 great chances which remy couldn't take.

Can't really bamford or traore do worse than remy? Even think falcao is a better choice.

The big shout also has to go to costa, fabregas and zouma. All were superb this game (Ivanovic too)!

What I didn't understand why arsenal fans were booing Fabregas? He did nothing wrong to them, and it was them who refused to sign him.

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed002's Note - Falcao is injured, Bamford cannot be played as it would block a sale or further loan. It will be known within a few days if the representative from Marseille can lure Traore away - she is due in to Chelsea tomorrow or Tuesday. The club would like Traore to stay but the ball is in his court right now.}

24 Jan 2016 18:53:19
Hazard played about 15 minutes at the end of the match after a period out injured. What did you expect from him?

Agree2 Disagree2

24 Jan 2016 18:53:52
Certainly strange performances from both Hazard and Remy - lacking dynamism and accuracy - Remy wanting move in this window perhaps? He could have scored at least a couple, and that would have saved us all from sweating through those last few minutes. But both are good players and I'd want them back trying unless we can bring in players of equal quality - a hard task esp. re. EH. Pato surely not the answer up front as back up for DC.

Agree2 Disagree1

24 Jan 2016 19:25:21
Second half sat back too much against 10 men and invited pressure, personal opinion I thought terry and Zouma were solid and the likes of matic and fabragas raised there game significantly ( particularly the later ) . Also I thought hazard showed glimpses in his short time on, however remy was appalling. Also Ivanovic continues to annoy me with his theatrics, diving on the floor appealing when he looses a header, when he should be tracking back stopping the cross etc ( without hands behind his back ) . But overall good win, and some positive signs.

24 Jan 2016 19:35:40
LRDlt,
It wasn't the fact we didn't re-sign Cesc, it was the manager in which he engineered a move to Barca.
He refused to play for us, even though Arsenal were still paying his wages and said "I will give up my £4m loyalty bonus to leave".

Personally, it didn't bother me that much, and still doesn't, his heart has always been at Barca, he was always going to return 'home'.

If media reports (at the time) were to be believed, it was the manner of the way he moved, and not the move itself.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jan 2016 23:40:37
How can anyone can have a go at Hazard today! Jeez, he was only on for 15 minutes and created 2 openings for Remy - what do you people expect!

Matic did OK, wasn't a bad performance considering the position we are in, the result was the important thing.
Thought ref was poor. Clearly trying to balance things having sent off an arsenal player.

Good result and three valuable points but we were playing a flaky team at the best of times and with 10 men and generally the performance was OK. We all watch through different eyes but Matic has deteriorated badly and Ivanovic at right back when he is given the run around is very worrying. The defence gets stretched because he is always out of position. Mikel is a sub, we should not be starting with him and Loftus-Cheek has every right to feel aggrieved. Costa was his usual annoying self but did his job and although not a fan, Fabregas played well. The worrying aspects are Hazard and Remy; Hazard looked like a man who did not want to be on the pitch and Remy seems to have no understanding of the word 'offside'. Good win but we have a lot of issues. not sure Oscar played.

If you could have any one player back in the side that we've had in the team before, who would it be?

For me, it's got to be Essien or Lampard in their prime!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

24 Jan 2016 13:25:45
Given the current situation, Lampard as he offers goals in and outside the box and with his head, a midfield role if required and could put a defensive stint in.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jan 2016 14:45:10
Essien for me. What he did on the pitch for us was unbelievable. I can't imagine how much he'd be worth in today's market. Prime Essien would quite possibly be the best midfielder in the world right now. He could own a midfield on his own. Definitely him for me. A midfield 3 of Mikel, Essien and Fabregas does not sound that bad, does it? It would free up Fabregas to create and roam around the pitch, while Essien just rampages up and down the pitch.

Frank Lampard 100%, a leader on the pitch, tracked bag, created chances and scored goals for fun. Chelsea's best ever player and I'm confident that if we had lampard in his prime in the side now we would be nowhere near the bottom.

Thank you Ed002 for the update, it is much appreciated.

I think the appointment of our next permanent manager is going to crucial to the short and medium term future of the club. It is an appointment the club can ill afford to get wrong.

The candidates who have been mentioned as possibilities:

Guardiola-my opinion, no chance, as good as gone to his next "uncomplicated" job at Man City. After he will probably go to Celtic and then PSG, spot the common denominator.

Simeone-Difficult to get him out of Atletico, in my opinion. Does not speak English and stylistically there are questions over his suitability for the club.

Allegri-Impressive record at Juventus, may want to explore a different opportunity. Wouldn't be my first choice.

Pellegrini-With all due respect, if we start collecting Man City's cast offs, it does not reflect well upon us as a club with ambition. Absolutelt not in my opinion, on a par with Benitez.

Conte-Out of contract in the summer apparently, though there are questions over his ability in europe. A risky appointment in my opinion, not worth the chance considering our position.

Sampaoli-Produced good attacking football with a talented Chile team, not sure over his suitability to club management, again, a risky appointment, not worth the risk of we are to rebuild.

Koeman-Premier League experience, impressive job at Southampton considering there position regards to selling players, low maintenance and committed to brining through young players who display the adequate level of talent. Maybe worth a look at.

Pochettino-Contraversial, and almost impossible to get him out of Spurs without Daniel Levy making us bankrupt, being honest, he is one I think we should be looking at. Fits the criteria, low maintenance, committed to extracting the best from and improving players at his disposal as opposed to spending, which may suit our frugal policy in the market. He also is committed to promoting young talented players at his disposal. As I said, probably no chance of getting him but a prime candidate to look at. Premier league proven and experience also, relatively low risk.

Mark Hughes-admirable job at Stoke, experience in league and has chelsea connections. Might be worth a look at if it comes to it.

Didier Deschamps-Good record in France, worked with pressure and has Chelsea connections. Not for me if Iam honest.

My opinion is that we should be looking at a manager who has potential longevity, who is committed to bringing through young players, extracts the best from what they have and improves players. This is crucial considering our apparent frugal philosophy in the market. Out of all the candidates mentioned, Simeone, Allegri and Pochettino stand out for me. Pochettino is someone we should be having a very close look at.

In relation to the market and the calling for us to bid for John Stones, forget it.

We missed our chance with Stones in the summer, now, if we bid, as Ed002 said, it will probably attract proposals from elsewhere that will likely be higher and more attractive to the player.

Especially, considering clubs like Man City seem to be exempt from FFP rules, considering their level of spending and alleged "creative" accounting of revenue streams and wage bill allocations.

We are now shopping at the second tier of the market, in my opinion. We are unwilling to overpay for anything and since this is a selling club's market, this limits us in our ability to compete for the elite level player such as Pogba and since last summer, Stones. We appear to be scouting young potential talent available at reasonable prices such as Courtois and Azpilicueta as well as players with release clauses, such as Costa, which makes the process straighforward. We must learn to accept our admiral but idealistic position in the market and adjust our objectives accordingly if needs be.

We can come back from this sobering season from hell but we must get this next managerial appointment right, the rest will stem from that.

Why do we keep on about pocchetino. He is at a big club and building a very exciting young team, Spurs could easily overtake us, in this era, as being one of the top teams in Europe. Why would he want to move to us. He is proving that a great team can be built without going out and spending millions and millions.

Pochettino would be my choice but it simply won't happen. Levy won't let him go and I imagine he will end up at Real Madrid one day. I think we should maybe look at Drogba, lampard or JT to work alongside Guus for a season before taking it on themselves. After all, that's what Pep did at Barcelona and Zidane has just done and maybe Giggs is about to do. Worked for us previously with Gullit and then Vialli.
