push luiz into defensive midfield as he is a liability in the back 4. also allows both ramires and merieles to push further forward from the midfield. speed and technical ability on the wings in sturridge and mata. torres is starting to get back to were he was for liverpool but needs both the supply from the wings and for lampard to stop disturbing his runs through. with bench that could have drogba lampard malouda and essien if he ever gets back to were he was there could be squad rotation which will keep players fresh throughout the season.
I can't understand how people consider Luiz a defensive liability. He's 2/2 for cleansheats so far this year. It was ivanovic who was in the game when we gave up 3 goals. I understand many people formed this opinion after chicharito took advantage of him last year but beyond that there is no basis.
Its because he runs forward so much which leaves a gap at the back. if he plays in the midfield he can attack while we still retain shape at the back. also he will replace mikel in the midfield who is reluctant to attack.
I understand that to an extant however his results when he goes forward are great. He's scored 3 goals getting forward and I can't imagine he's been the cause of that many allowed. Mikel sits back almost as a centrehalf as it is so you can allow Luiz to go forward in that sense.
Mikel isnt a centre half though and will not have worked with terry to be a gd partnership like ivanovic will have done. also luiz passing ability is better than mikels so even when he sits back he can influence the play more than mikel. also it allows ivanovic to go back to his more natural cb role. he was gd a rb but bosingwa is a more natural rb. this team is pretty young and with the sales of anelka malouda and others alot of money would be saved through wages.
I may have misspoke. I meant to say that mikels play and area he patrols often resembles that of a centre half. Theres a massive difference between when he's in that role and when raul miereles is in the position. I will say ivanovic played a clean game today and the goal was solely on bosingwa.
