hi just gonna add my tuppence worth again
i think this is the very last of the jose era, when he was at the bridge everyone at the club knew there role.the same team played week in week out and if it didnt, the player who came in knew there role.it wasnt a case of the player trying something different in that role, it was set in stone, this is what you do, and if you dont your off.I believe carlos double year was the players just adopting this role again but just with his player picks, they just came on and did the job of that position and got on with it.NOW the following year carlo lost his way and in my opinion so did the players for the first time since they were truly put together.cech,terry,carvahlo,alex,cole,ivan.essien,mikel,bossy,lamps anelka, drogba, kalou, malouda, ferriera, all lost it at the same time.in my opinion 14 players dont lose form all at the same time,or do they, look at porto and look at inter, they have both suffered the same fate, as chelsea in recent years, were the players that great in the first place or was jose really that good he could produce something special something extra from players that really isnt there. When carlo won the double they were still the same 14 players, but then injuries hit other players came in and the whole team lost its way.
i cannot remember in almost 18 months now the same chelsea team playing together for 2 matches in a row,now quote me if im wrong, but consistency is the key,the back four changes more often than a chanel model, the midfield has never been consistent this year, and the forward line seems to be picked by what the media deem to be the right choice.i love the blues with all my heart and cant wait to see them on top again and if they dont i will still love em.i think we need to stick with 11 players stick with the same formation and just get the players to stick to it,name me 1 prem club that has played five different dm in 1 season at least 10 different back 4 line ups lost count of the midfield line ups and stick with torres tell drogba he is now a impact sub (endof ) torres need to know he is the king of the bridge now and stick to it . his recent form has put many a current legend to shame his workrate has been incredible and has fought for the shirt and the team, other than terry name 1 club legend who has done the same this year,
lampard mediagoon if i cant play im telling the daily whoever
cole if i dont like it im gonna udermine you
drogba i rule the roost and give team talks wheneveryone can see them
i wouldnt mind them doing this but all 3 have been ordinary this year and thats me being polite.
luiz is a star makes the odd mistake but i love him
cahill didnt know how good he was goona be next captain
mata nuff said just wish sometimes make a bigger impact in the real big games (out of position in opinion behind the forward}
ivan the great does what it says on the tin job done
torres i think now is his time and still i think has somethingbig to say this season
romeu i honestly believe the new makele i think we are keeping him out as long as poss so barca cant get him back lol
meireles has played in all midfield positions this year feel a bit sorry, but not up to it
malouda bossy lamps drogs ferriera hilario (1 year left) love you all brought real joy to my heart, and if you say what you mean, when you say the fans are the most important thing, then you need to move on because thats what 90% want.mikel essien and maybe kalou 1 more year as subs.
we need a man with balls, guidance, a sense of direction, he the players the club and most of all the fans know were he and the club are going with it.

Good post Gareth (the enter button is your friend, dont be afraid of it mate!). Man Utd have had constant chances to their lineup this year, their back 4 has rarely been the same and look where they are on the table. Although their squad is nowhere near as strong as it has been in years they still have real depth, something we lack.

It isn't that we haven't got the depth to compete for the title, its that too many Chelsea players have decided not to give a f*ck anymore. Malouda, Bos, Kalou and then other players just don't cut it unfortunately: Essien, Meirelles, Mikel (bar 1 game).

These players need to be replaced come next year along with Drogba and possibly Cole & Lampard, although I'd give those 2 another season to prove that the club means more to them than personal achievements.

I completely agree on Romeu, think he is a future star. Something also tells me that we aren't constistently playing him for the reason you mentioned. If this is the case I think it is very dumb on our behalf because we would have more points, but Barcelona will be sniffing around if they see his quality. And he has already stated he intends to move back their at some stage.

For me the biggest signing of 2012 has to be a quality manager. We have to do this as early in the off season as possible so that he can assess the squad and make the changes required.

Bring on the spuds!

Hope we get the right result tomorrow, think it will take an epic effort from the boys though.
Some people on this site need to realise that bad mouthing the players will get the team nowhere. Anyone can watch a game and say this and that about poor performances, but we need to get behind them! let the manager deal with other matters. Come on you blues!

As much as I would like Chelsea to put a run of results until the end of the season and finish in the top 4, maybe semis in CL, and who knows? Maybe and FA Cup - deep inside I wish nothing more than finishing outside the CL places.

I know that it is out of the question in the boardroom and that we will lose a lot of money and some players will turn against moving to Chelsea, but it could finally triger an overhaul.

With the recent good run, I started worrying that all the sudden some players started looking good and their inabilities are overlooked. Started wondering all of the What if's and came to conclusion, that we need a hard landing in the economy terms.

Then the club would be forced to sit down and reboot the system, rather than just update the software. We have to realize that our ambitions are nowhere near our abilities at present.

It is obvious to almost everyone, that we need at least 5 first team players, veterans and not an 18 year olds to help this team compete at the very top of the game. A couple of years ago we would go into Barca game with a thought of being able to make it in two games. Now we look into Benfica game with fear.

We have let this team get old TOGETHER. Noone does it, but international squads. We have carried the likes of Drogba, Malouda, Cole too long. We have expeted too much from the likes of Kalou and Mikel who have never delivered. It took three serious knee injuries to even consider offloading Essien. Why are the likes of Hilario and Ferreira and Bosingwa in this squad? Are they promising youngsters, or reliable internationals?

These were the problems last year and the year before. We have not addresed them and we are facing the consequences now. The front office has to take blame for this season and the last one, alike.

We want Mourinho to return and what do you expect him to do with our set of players? Ed diplomaticaly passes the questions over who makes the decisions on transfer at the club, or who actually negotiates for the club, but these few years a hear more where we have bid and failed to negotiate, than we actualy get new faces. Dating a few years back we have failed for Maicon, Alves, Pastore, Robinho, Neymar, Perreira, Modric and the list goeas on.... how many time have read about the other clubs failures to land him or the other him? When i read that Emenalo is scouting this or that player, I can't help but nod in support.

But why those players stay where they are, or move elswhere, while we wait or fail in bringing them in? This need being addressed. And for all the reasons above, I truly want Chelsea to stay out of top4, that we could take a good look at why we got there and make appropriate decisions for the future.

And having said that, lets kick the s**t out of spuds!

I don't think it would be realistic to land every target. Also, you say we were so bad the season before last, but if i recall, we won the league and fa cup double

Just saying ...

JG

JM10. I did not say we were terrible, i said it was obvious the team were declining and the season before this we did not win anything.

JG

Agree0 Disagree0

I completely agree JG. We can blame a lot of managers, but there has to be some serious questions asked about some of the guys in the higher positions. Why are we consistently giving substandard old players new contracts and not even considering youth. Why have we kept the likes of ferriera and bosingwa so long when clearly players like bertrand are better. Only a few days ago hilarious was given a year extension. I mean seriously! What are they go early trying to achieve by that. If I was a young player why would I want to go to Chelsea? No one is even considered. If we finish 5th, finally we might start a major clear out. Not only the squad, but some of the clowns who make the decisions upstairs. Rant over

NP

Agree0 Disagree0

As usual I agree with the majority JG, but wishing we finish outside top 4? Come on man your kidding right, you said yourself we need 5 first team players and that we already struggle to get the big signings to come quickly. How would 5th help us out in this situation, we would surely just be overlooked by more players.

I personally fear that if we finish outside the top 4 this year we could start declining more, look at pool. Although they don't have our money, how much do you expect Roman to dump into the team if we begin to not fulfill expectations? How long do you even him to stick around for?

Since Roman has come to the club we have been built around success. If you win the double one year and nothing the next and come 2nd your sacked. If you have a run of loses your out. Although I don't support how quickly some have been sacked, it is what has brought this club almost instand success. Its what Roman demands! Roman has himself said that their will be a massive overhaul in the summer whether 4th or 5th, but the difference in quality you can attrack between those positions in immense.

I expect him to begin questioning backroom staff already.

We need 4th.

Melbourne CFC

Agree0 Disagree0

As much as I'd personally love to be at more nights like the napoli game, I think there is some major fundamentals that need to be changed at the club. My worry is 4th and a few new signings may paper over those. Short term success is nothing of you can't build for the future

NP

Agree0 Disagree0

Look mate, you know I wish Chelsea nothing, but the best and I was sure that all these changes will come even if we finish in top4 - then yes. But i doubt it. Every year we don't turn things south, we tend to let the same personnel keep on going.

Do you know that we pay more than 60K a week to the likes of Kalou and Obi? We were ready to hand Studge 90k a week halfway into the season. Are you not curious on how much we pay the likes of Bosingwa, Malouda and Meireles?

We bargain hard over fees and wages. We get the likes of Ramires and Mata to sign on a cheap and in Ramires case we reward them with a big contract halfway into the original deal. Now Mata i am being told is under 50K a week. How long until it doubles? Or Luiz with Barca interest?

These three surely deserve their wages, but we do not properly manage the rest. I have no doubt in my mind whatsoever that letting DD, Kalou, Malouda, Bosingwa, Ferreira, Essien is a must. It is not if or should we.

It is unfortunate that this has to happen in one go, just like after the double season. But that is exactly the point i am making. We should do the transition smoothly, rather than the wholesale change. This time it is just inevitable.

I lobbied for us to go after both Cahill and Parker in the summer. Both were available and we should have gotten both then. I was ridiculed over Parker. Just look at how it turned out. He would have been our best midfielder, Ramires included. What an irony.

Our hard bargaining policies have left us off the list of players i have written above, but no matter who is going to be a manager you have to have squad depth and we should go for the likes of Hoilett right away. Let the new man and the owner to do the fancy ones, but we have to have a proper squad depth.

What is the point of leaving Malouda or Essien in the team, to be "rotation" type of players on that kind of contracts. It is just a mess. We only have a name, a number and an enormous salary staring from the bench.

I can hardly understand when we go for the likes of Yossi and Meireles on three year deals, coz when it turns out that they are below standard, we just can't get rid of them.

Having said all this, what i would encourage to do is reshuffle the outstanding list of "advisors", make a smart decision in hiring a proper experienced PL manager, give him the money and logical timeframe to deliver the goods. From what i have seen and witnessed - David Moyes armed with a proper budget should suit us best.

If RDM does leave at the end of the season (this seems to have an air of inevitability to it) then I would like to see Eddie Newton remain within the coaching team. He seems to have a good relationship with the players and could serve as a good buffer between manager and players in the same fashion as Ray Wilkins did. That’s not me saying I want RDM to leave; just that I’d like Newton to stay.

The performance against City was a poor one, there is no denying that; but City did play well and their final goal was class. It was only a poor result because of the circumstances of us chasing a top four position; losing to City is nothing to be ashamed about.

If Ivanovic isn’t fit RDM really needs to consider his options because if he starts Bosingwa against Spurs then Bale will tear him apart. One option would be to start Hutchinson, we haven’t really seen him since he re-signed and its impossible to say what his form / fitness is like; it may be that Bale would also tear him apart but I think most fans would rather see that than another poor Bosingwa showing.

I have been critical of Daniel Sturridge recently and the fact that he is selfish and can’t pass etc. Unfortunately for Sturridge football is a fickle thing; as are most the fans. The position Sturridge plays in and the way that he plays that position means that when he is amongst the goals he will be regarded as the best player at the club; when the goals dry up people will get on his back. This is just and unfortunate fact of life. My complaints about Sturridge are also more of a statement about a lack of depth (natural width) in the position for when things aren't working out for him. I fully accept that he is young and learning his trade and will improve over the next few years.

Believable5 Unbelievable1

If sturridge was such a good striker playing on the right coming in on his left should be scoring more often. the fact that his shooting is so poor proves he aint good enough. i want get into his passing and greediness, another thing is hes big headed and him and his dad thinks hes better than he actually is. Agreed 13, if Brana is not fit I would play-
Cech
Luiz-----Cahill-----Terry-----Cole
Mikel-------Lampard
Mata
Sturridge----Drogba----Torres

I don't think Bale would get a kick if Luiz was marking him, and I think Torres could do well coming in off the left like sturridge does from the right, he scored against us cutting in from the left in his last game against us for them.

Kenny, I agree with your back four; from there I would personally like to see...

--Ramires-Obi Mikel-Lampard--

------------Mata-------------

--------Torres-Drogba--------

Depending on his fitness I might consider bringing Romeu in for Obi Mikel!

Or he could play Ferreira. We still have him, don't we...
JG

Yeah 13 I could live with that line-up, but if we play with the same energy as we did against Napoli I think either line-up would win it for us, fingers crossed.

I hope Ivanovic is fit for the spurs game.Bale against Boswinga is and contest and we would get skimmed on that side.Hope we play Mata behind Torres and Drogba.I would play Ramires and Mikel(can't believe I am saying this, but he has looked better than Essien) in the midfield with Lampard.Hope we win.

I personally can't believe Bosingwa is still at the club. I'd rather give Hutchinson a run out! Bosingwa is uninterested and to be honest, just completely awful! I'd drive him to another club too get him gone! The penalty at City was down to him, if he cleared the ball properly and not passed it straight to an opponent they wouldn't have put the cross in! Worst right back in the prem!

Believable3 Unbelievable0

On his day bosingwa can be good, i remem him playing left back againt barca and he kept messi quiet all game. BLUEBOY1

How can someone disagree when he did, chelswa fans were singing dont you wish our right back was ur left back

Agree0 Disagree0

I actually kind of agree with both of you because bosingwa seems to play better on the left than the right, strange one really and I'd hate to try explain it, but he is generally a very poor fullback

In regards to the ManC defeat, I am not overly upset. While it would have been nice to get a point or more out of the match, they have won their last 20 home games, including the demolition of ManU. While we were unlucky with the handball and what not, we did hold them pretty well. Look out spuds! Chelsea up!
