How trustworthy is the site called Calciomercato- as they are saying that Chelsea will prioritize a deal to sign Leon Bailey in January?

Last January I would have loved to have signed him but he hasn’t been great since. I’d actually give CHO a chance instead and readdress the position in the summer if there’s still problems.

I agree with frank, what little I’ve seen and checked up on him this year he hasn’t been the same, insigne depay Pulisic would be ideal winger/ forward in my opinion, with CHO going to France or Germany on loan like Sancho etc and shine there.

I want to be positive that Hudson Odoi's issue will turn out well for Chelsea soon.

The just regurgitate things from other untrustworthy internet sites.

Hudson Odoi is one of the best young talents the club has, and I really want to see him break into the first team. But he is still only a 17 year old lad, he's at a top club with a new manager who won't be taking any risks at this stage of the season.

The guy called Lorzano of PSV isn't bad.

Striker is the main priority. People say Icardi doesn't fit our style. Goal scorers suit any style, he's a leader also. I'd be willing to sell both of Morata and Batshuayi. Kane would be my dream striker but will never happen.

Right wing is simple - PLAY HUDSON-ODOI! What worse can we do? Willian offers nothing! Dembele hasn't fitted to Barcelona's style of play but I think he could do wonders here running in behind like Sarri likes. I wonder if they're still interested in Willian he's just no good.

Midfield is fine if we can secure Kovacic permanently I love watching him and Hazard together. Loftus-Cheek should leave if he's not getting enough game time and his injuries are a massive worry. Bring Mount back next year. Fàbregas, Drinkwater, Baka and Van Ginkel to leave.

I'd like us to buy a marquee CB. Christensen thinks he's better than what he is, not strong enough for this league IMO. Luiz and Cahill past it, Zouma poor on the ball. Rudiger is class I like Ampadu also. How good is De Ligt of Ajax? He's the future Fernando Hierro he is.

Full backs are a major worry. Alonso despite his clutch goals just gets so exposed against the top sides. Mata breezed past him yesterday and he's slow now. I'd like to see Emerson given more time but if not I do like the Lyon LB Ferland Mendy. RB is obvious, Reece James is Azpi's understudy next year sell Zappa. Azpi has been underwhelming so far but I'm sure he'll come back if not I hope we put faith in James.

I think Azpi isn't doing that bad as everyone makes out, of course he doesn't score goals as Alonso but he actually defends well.

Mourinho's teams will always sit back, defend and exploit the weakness of teams that play possession football. I feel Man United did precisely the same thing- sit back, defend, exploit and try to counter attack. They sure pointed some lapses in our team which most knew was present before now. Like:
* Jorginho is excellent in distribution and passing but not so good at combating or protecting the back four, so one would expect some defensive mistakes from him sitting in front of the defense (N. Kante should be a better defensive midfielder sitting in front of the back four) ;
* Azpi and M. Alonso aren't obviously that great at playing fullback so your see quick wingers running behind them (the second Man United goal exposed both of them) . Alonso obviously good at helping the attack but I feel Azpi isn't as good as he was at right full back.
* We have a major issue at centre forward position.

It's a common knowledge that any change of coach and style will sure come with casualties on the players. Some will peak, some will remain the same while the others regress. Some will surely take more time to come along.
At the moment, the obvious positions are the striker and the RW. These two already set off the alarm. We could have taken the game out of Man U's reach with more clinical forwards.
Another issue bothering me is Kante's role in the team. I don't know how best to use him but I feel he's under utilised. He's not as effective as he was and that makes a case of a round peg in square hole. Maybe he grows his game so quickly to the demands of his new role.
For the striker, Kane will be a hard one but IMO not impossible. Just that the fee might be deafening. Your other guess maybe as good as mine but surely we need striker than Morata.

Will people actually watch what happens in matches? Azpi is nowhere near the player he was - tackles are missed and passes go astray at regular intervals. I hate to say it, based on past performances, but he is no longer the standard required at CFC.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he just looks like he is struggling with his positional sense after playing right-side of a central 3 to me. Unlike many modern day full backs, who have all the positional sense of a squashed rabbit, he doesn't have blistering pace to make up for being out of position. If he sorts out that, he will be a lot better. Though I do agree his touch and passing is looking out of sorts, but that may come back as the season goes on. It might just be a confidence thing because he knows he is struggling positionally.}

23 Oct 2018 09:49:50
Fair point Ed001 - thanks for the input and I would hope to see Azpi back to his best.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - for a long while he was the best full-back in the Prem, get him back to his best and you will be in good shape to challenge for the Premier League.}

23 Oct 2018 14:27:03
Ed001 I would even say that he was one of the best all round defenders in the league for our title winning seaso.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - can't really argue with that. You have been very lucky to have him.}

A few views on our season so far.

Overall things are going better than I thought they would, we're unbeaten and there is reason for optimism. However there remains a couple of obvious problems within the squad that need to be addressed.

Hazard is in the form of his Chelsea career, yesterday he had a poor game and I do think that it was a case of him having an ineffectual game than Man Utd making him ineffectual. I think all signs are that he will sign a new contract that will make him a top earner in the league which, as one of the best players in the league, he deserves. Now, for every action there is a reaction and Hazard being in the form of his life means we will lean on his talent; yesterday showed that we can't simply reply on him. The right side of our attack and, more importantly, the striker position need to be addressed in January. Federico Chiesa is a very talented young player that I think we should definitely be looking at as a long term solution for the right side of our attack (please no more Moses) . As for a striker, from a purely footballing perspective, I would love to see Icardi replace Morata and/ or Giroud - however this is extremely unlikely. Finding a top class striker in January is nearly impossible and this could be our undoing this season.

I believe that we have the best midfield in the Premier League. Jorginho has fitted seamlessly into the role that he played at Napoli and Kovacic looks a real player, however Barkley is getting better and better and will really give him a run for his money. Ideally I would like to see Loftus-Cheek get some minuets but he will really need to prove he is good enough for this team (something I now doubt) . I don't always see the need for both Kante and Jorginho to be on the pitch, especially at home against "lesser teams" who tend to sit back. There should be opportunities for Loftus-Cheek when he returns to fitness, the rest is really up to him.

Defensively I still think we need to look at left back, Alonso is playing well but still thinks he is a striker at times. There was one point yesterday against United where he was caught up field in the six yard box when we lost possession, United quickly switched the play meaning Hazard had to rush back and bring Rashford down, conceding a dangerous free kick and earing himself a yellow card. All because of Alonso's lack of tactical awareness. Emerson isn't the answer to this problem, personally I would look to Ben Chilwell at Leicester despite him just signing a new contract.

Reece James is having a great loan in the Championship, heir apparent to Azpilicueta at right fullback.

Christensen wants to go? Let him go, he is a good defender but the club don't need to set a president of bowing to pressure from 22 year olds and their dads.

Reece James should be given a chance next season. Azpi been poor and he could displace him.

I think Reece-James will be a given a squad number next year as I think Zapa will be leaving but I will not be writing off Dave just yet.

Azpi is our captain, and for me one of the most important Chelsea players of past 5 years.

21 Oct 2018 23:29:52
Doesn’t matter if he’s not playing well in a new position he should be replaced or challenged. Every position needs two good players for each spot.

22 Oct 2018 12:39:53
Reece-James will probably get a squad number next year and that will be to replace Zappa!

Surely as supporters we can’t be giving up on Dave after a few average games?

Most players have bad spells. Some fans would just sell those players without giving them a chance to recover their form!

I make bold to say that I wouldn't mind Balotteli in January instead of Morata's pending the summer when we can go for a world class. Mitrovic won't also be a bad idea either.
So frustrating watching our strikers play especially that waste, Morata. Please don't teach me loyalty because that's for the club and not on any underperforming player. No wonder ED002 always said that players are transient.

21 Oct 2018 09:57:45
Well said mate. I actually wouldn't mind Balotelli or even Mitrovic. To be honest anyone that can score more than 3 goals in 9 months is ok. I have been supporting Morata since he came but there comes a time where you realise that enough is enough. I may be late but it's because I wanted to give the chap a try. His a confidence player, these type of players are very difficult to deal with.

21 Oct 2018 15:48:23
All of you raved about Morata signing when we signed him. If I am right it was me and Eli who wanted Lukaku instead.

The lad would bang goals in this team with so many chances we create.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There was zero chance that Lukaku would have been signed - none, it wopuld not have been allowed - as was explained.}

21 Oct 2018 20:52:57
Yes mate we raved about Morata, however none of us could foresee the situation he is now. I am glad the club have learnt from past mistakes and how we dealt with KDB, Salah etc because we have given him the chance to shine. Atleast we can say we gave him the opportunity and there will no be no regrets if he was to sign for another club and start scoring plenty of goals. Mentally his weak, too much time on the floor.

Anyhow, yes you wanted Lukaku but he isn't lighting up the premier league at all. He was non existent against us and that is the case against big teams. Man Utd fans will talk to you about his deficiencies.

Personally i would have like Alcacer, the guy is a real poacher and is no nonsense in front of goal. But obviously his only moved to Dortmund and therefore unlikely. I think if Piatek performs then we may be interested. Ed1 who do you think would suit our style mate, who would you shortlist.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - well it certainly wouldn't be Lukaku, I said earlier on the Man Utd site he is like a pinball bumper, he doesn't control the ball it just bounces off him in a random direction and no one knows where it will end up, least of all him!

Icardi is a goalscorer and would score goals, but he is a dick and you have to deal with his missus who is hellish hard work. So I would look elsewhere.

Rodrigo has been impressive, but not sure he would be worthwhile value at 27 to adapt to the league. Alcacer, as you said looks out of reach with him just moving. Looks a huge mistake to let him move in the summer.

We know Sarri likes a big man to lead the line, which is why he wanted Milik at Napoli, so why not someone like Dzeko as a short term option for the rest of the season?

If not there is Piatek and Maxi Gomez of Celta look good long term options - with Giroud to learn from, they could be very good options.

Personally I still think, if Pedro is not fit and with Willian offering nothing, I would drop Morata into a role behind and to the right of Giroud and give that a go.}

22 Oct 2018 08:37:26
From what we know of Morata, at Real and Juventus, his goals were scored when he played off a striker. Benzema and Mandžukić.

I have said before, maybe not here, that we should try Giroud and Morata in the same team. Morata facing goal instead of trying to turn a defender should be something we look at.

In saying that, Morata was unlucky not to connect better with the chance at the start of the second half when he turned Smalling.

{Ed0333's Note - I’d love for Sarri to wear a suit mate I think he looks like a scruffy sod with his tracksuit but then again Klopp doesn’t look much better. Let’s face it the coolest cat in the Premiership is Pep with his Dsquared threads.

21 Oct 2018 15:40:12
My big thing about Sarri is he doesn’t stop picking his nose but as was pointed out by a fellow poster, he can pick what he wants if he keeps on winning!
