Its the curse Of Torres, whilst at the mighty liverpool we won nothing, had shocking owners, terrible managers apart from the great sir rafa the gafa Benitez, when Torres got it into his head he was leaving we got new owners, now the bad egg has gone I suspect the good times are near

The problem starts at the top. Due to the ever changing revolving managerial doors at this club , the managers are under immediate pressure. Under this pressure, there is no way that a manager can blood through the young players when it is too big a risk . I would love to see lukaku mceachran, piazon, Bertrand etc. get a regular game, but guess what ...... It ain't gonna happen. As soon as the old guard as they are called start playing bit part roles Then we can incorporate the younger players into the team. In AVB we trust !!!

AVBacker

Believable2 Unbelievable1

No dear. The problem starts at the top. It is just that he manager is not exactly TOP. The problem is who assembles this team. We hire coaches to coach the team assembled by who knows whom.

Advisors, Emenalo, Buck, Gourlay, Zahavi, whatever and whoever else is there. These and the rest are to blame for being in the position to screw up the team.

There were only two periods of good tea m building by Chelsea in the last decade. One under Ranieri and the other under Mourinho. Both times managers were the ones who built teams. Not allies, advisors, agents and the rest.

KNEE JERK

At least you spent £35M of it wisely

Agree11 Disagree6

Go get youself a Johnson for 18 million, a Aquilany for 20, a Keane for 18. Hmmm, what else is there. Be creative. Getting Carrol for 10 times his worth is surely not your last masterstroke.

JG

Personally, I think Andy Carroll has produced more than Meireles and Torres put together (cheap at half the price of those two)

Umm, what about Mutu, Crespo, Wright Philips, Zhirkov and Shevchenko mate? how much is that all together?

John

Agree10 Disagree1

We dont pay AC £10 mill a year, you have 28yr old who confidence is shot and is in decline. We have a 23yr old on
less then half the money FT is on, who has bags of potential and is on the rise. Chelsea is a grave yard for talent. Like i said thanks for the £59mill all the best.

KNEE JERK

Agree11 Disagree2

Andy carrol has bags of potentials?that really made me laugh.i would rather have torres in my team, torres still has the ability to beat his man and play some nice passes, his only problem has been scoring.but carol's has been awful.his build up play is poor,no pace.you liverpool fans should stop deluding your selves.
Chelsea can still overturn the deficit and win napoli at stamford bridge.

I can't choose on who was our worst player tonight. Napoli are not as good as i thought, take cavani and lavezzi out their side and they have no one. I still can't figure out why ramires is constantly praised on this. He wouldn't get on any other campions league team....

21 Feb 2012 22:58:28
There is no doubt in my mind that this is the worst Chelsea team in my lifetime, now, I am not exactly old but still. I'm a Leeds fan, we're supposed to hate you I know, but I am a huge Torres fan and I cannot hate the shirt he wears. Defensively, I think the problem is the nationality. You have Bosingwa who is Portuguese, terry/cahill/cole English. Ivanovic serbian, cech is czech, luiz brazil. There really is no wonder that there are communication issues. You lack leaders, you need a dedicated holding midfielder, not Ramires who bombs forward and certainly not Merieles, the biggest waste of space I've ever seen in a Chelsea shirt. Then you need wingers, sturridge is out of position and thinks too highly of himself, Malouda is a joke and seems content to pass sideways and backwards rather than give anything to the game himself? And some creativity needs to be injected as well, anybody who blames El Nino is wrong, give him chances he'll score goals. However atm, you expect these goals to come from greedy sturridge, oap malouda and the overworked Juan Mata. IMO, AVB is the man for Chelsea, but the players are seriously lacking that of the required level to be good enough to play for a team like yours. The older players have no respect for Andre at all. Cole looked smug when he came on, Lampard didn't even look interested. I think you should give AVB a chance, he needs the summer transfer window to clear out the s**te and bring in his own flair.

Your team next year:

Cech
New RB Luiz Cahill New LB
Romeu
NEW RW NEW LW
Mata NEW CAM
Torres

Assuming he has £50M already, I would go for:

Outs:
Lampard 15M
Drogba 10M
Malouda 2M
Cole 10M
Bosingwa 3M
Sturridge 8M

Realistic prices.

Gives 98M.

Glen Johnson (1 year left on contract and wants to go) 8M

Kaka 30m

Villa 15M

Fellaini 10M

Walcott 15M

Agbonglahor 6M

Marcelo 15M

Team:

Cech
Johnson Cahill Luiz Marcelo
Romeu Ramires
Mata Kaka Villa
Torres

GK
Bertrand
Lukaku
Walcott
Agbong
Fellaini
CB

Believable0 Unbelievable8

This is frankly one of the most ridiculous things I have read on here and I only read a sentence and half and saw "Lampard 15 million - realistic price" as I scrolled down.

This MUG needs to be stopped and should not be allowed to take this PROJECT any further. It must STOP.

As a Fan the result hurt greatly today, his team selection before the game was a stab to the heart.
I swear his the worst manager we have had for more than two decades.

Is he blind or plain stupid. The Chelsea universe could see that Merailes, Malouda and Bosingwa are not chelsea standard. Yet he plays them on a regular basis. Favouritism in favour of the portugese players.

Not playing Essien is Criminal and playing bosingwa at left back justifies why his PROJECT needs stopping. I think in his head his playing championship Manager. That mug may play Torres as a left back soon.

TBH i cant see us turning this around at stamford bridge. I know Its negative but based on our form, when was the last time we won by 2 Goals.?? I can't remember such scorelines under this MuG. His Philosophy is so shocking. Passing side to side giving the opposition weeks to mark our players, not that they need to mark certain players.

MUG out. I will be watching a few games. Most notably against Bolton and Spurs. I will be booing this MUG if he is there still as the leader of our PROJECT

I actually feel ashamed that you people are Chelsea fans. Where's the support? I don't know how you can blame AVB. Meireles backed off the challenge for the first goal, Ivanovic lost his man for the second and Luiz should of cleared the ball for the third. You think all this is AVB's fault? Stop jumping on the bandwagon and actually think about things. AVB is not at fault for everything.
Scotty.

Believable5 Unbelievable5

You will see i am the one guy who has backed AVB through thick and thin but i was actually dissapointed with his selections today. You cant be making mistakes week in week out. It was obvious to the world we needed some experience in the middle eg essien.

Anyhow rather than blaming AVB, the players need to take their fair share. As you have pointed scotty. Also Rami had a bad bad game...bad timing for our star man. I feel.we can oveeturn this.

Sk

Agree2 Disagree2

AVB introduced new defensive mentality when he arrived. Playing from the back, high line, all that stuff. Promised attacking football, exciting one as well.

No we are left with no defence, can't score more than one bloody goal a game and the only ones who get excited at the Chelsea games are the opposition.

AVB is s**t. Get out.

JG

Agree5 Disagree2

Here we go again with "ashamed" so scotty please help me to understand this, when we watch games where the manager continues to make mistakes and the players dont even give a sh*t on the field and the results as you all know have been downright poor are we as fans not allowed to get frustrated?is that how it works?we should just all just be happy bout it?aren't you yourself frustrated right now?there's nothing you shoub be ashamed about

Agree2 Disagree0

Meireles backing out of a challenge? All I can say as a LFC fan is you were warned when you bought him that he is a lightweight shirker.

cozinoz

Agree7 Disagree1

How is it AVB's fault that these players ego are too big? They don't respect because he is young, they think they are better than him. What do you expect AVB to do? He is a good manager trying to build a good side but players like Lampard and Malouda are getting the way of this. P.S.If your gonna strike up a debate have the guts too leave a moniker as well.
Scotty.

We have got zero chance of winning the Champs League and tonight just confirmed it. The Napoli defense is worse than i thought, its woeful, they can not defend. Yet we still created about 2 chances the whole game. The worst thing is, as bad as their defense is, ours is worse. We really have fallen so far behind its scary. We looked absolutely toothless and void of ideas throughout the whole match. I honestly don't know how i feel at the moment? Do we punish AVB and sack him due to how awful we have become? Is it his fault? Or is it the players fault and should they be the ones to go? I honestly don't know whos to blame? Nobody looks like they are really trying apart from Ramires, Mata and Luiz. Meireles was shocking tonight...again. He offers us nothing, tonight he was at fault for the first goal, the second goal he didn't close down, and then he nearly cost us for another goal but luckily Lavezzi missed. How he plays every week i'll never know. If i didn't know the team before tonight i don't think i would have known Malouda played, he is so content to just sit on the fringes of the game and coast along, he has robbed a living at Chelsea for far too long. Kalou is ten times the player because he tries. One thing that was clear tonight is that it really is not Torres's fault. I have to defend him and back him up, he can not get the blame for not scoring. He gives 100% every week and he has set up a lot of goals. What does Drogba give us that Torres doesn't? He did sweet F.A tonight, i can't remember a thing he did? Its so depressing to be coming on this forum game after game to talk about whats gone wrong. Just once i would like to come on and sing our praises at how strong defensively we were and how creative attacking wise we were. I feel like a loyal dog. Every time we play i get excited and look forward too it, then we're awful and i'm depressed, then we play again and i'm excited and look forward too it again, then again we're awful etc.

I don't know whats best for us at the moment i really don't. Just seen AVBs post match interview and i feel sorry for him. He is under so much pressure and its starting to show, it can't be easy having to defend your job after every game. I just hope it works out for him because he is clearly trying and you can see when we score it means a lot to him. It looks like it means a lot more to him than it does half the players. But is he good enough? I dunno?

Right anyway sorry for the long depressing text, not my style, but i'm sure i'm not the only one. I feel sad more than anything because this isn't Chelsea we're watching. Surely we're due a positive period sooner rather than later? Night chaps. Heads up suppose.

Get rid of the dead(old) wood, get some players in who want to wear the shirt. Build a NEW team and be patient . SIMPLES

Agree2 Disagree1

Feel your pain pal. Been through the emotions with Chelsea recently. Confused as to where we we are heading. Not good.

New players are a must because were not good enough. Drogba was awful. I had high hopes for him recently. Torres is poor but i can't see myself playing any worse than drogba today. Not going to talk about the regular criminals.

Shak

Agree1 Disagree2

Thats the problem, people are oming on here mid week and after every game saying the same things. We cant get rid of the players that arent good enough until the summer, so repeating that there crap doesnt solve anything.

If we sack AVB then what do we do? promote Di matteo? He is a key part of the selection and tactics process. If a new manager comes in we still have the same players, Drogba and Torres wont score goals cause we dont create anything atm. we have 3 defensive minded CM in Romeu, Mikel, Essein and Lampard and Miereles arent going to give you many assists.

I really dont think anyone knows what would be best, 433, 442, Drogba or Torres, mata through the middle then who do you play on the wing? Kalou? He has been consistantly one of our worst performers.

We've got to grit our teeth, get through this second half of the season the best we possibly can and support our football club.

Please can people not say if we play Kalou, Lampard and Drogba wed do better, alot of people on this forum have said they have unless and should be sold.

Been saying all season this manager is useless, finally people are listening. He will contiue to play meireles, malouda, bosingwa, mikel, kalou. The world class youngsters we have will continue to not get any chances.
The worst manager we have ever had.
Even with an alleged old team we should be at least playing better football.
He is in a power struggle, because the likes of drogba, terry, lampard, cole, essien, cech have all tiold him his wrong on team selection's & tactics are wrong. These loyal players, who have been the backbone of our most successful team in history, know a lot more than this two bob, fantasy football manger.
If we sack him tomorrow, we can still turn this around. If we don't & he stays, he will spend £10's of million's of average portugese players, who will make us even worse.

Believable5 Unbelievable3

Most of the players were not brought in by AVB. Meireles is useless, but the rest are overpaid prima donnas. They need to knuckle down and WORK for their team and their supporters. Disgraceful attitudes.

The Chelsea of old would have won 4-0.

On todays form Man Utd, barcelona, real madrid would h

ave won by a similiar margin.

I cant see nothing happening at Stamford Bridge. Unless this Project ends we will see doom and gloom over us.....

Awfull I don't care what anyone thinks but AVB has to go.He is not the man to take Chelsea forward.Mourinho must come back.He loves Chelsea and players have huge respect for him.AVB looks lost, and that's rubbing off on players. This is worrying times.I do believe AVB will get sacked but roman has had bigger worries in the past weeks with his court case.Just hope if AVB goes we don't take a chance on guardiola or someone like him. There is only one man for the job and that's Jose.I do feel for AVB but think he took the job about 10 years to early.Maybe him and Jose could join up together next year with AVB getting a bit more knowledge for a couple of seasons. The players are not helping, bosingwa, merieles, awfull,Sturridge just wants the headlines for himself.Cahill, would we really have bought him of he wasn't on the cheap,I don't think we would of.malouda was great for six months when hiddink was in charge, other than that he has been awfull.Torres £50m for someone who looked lost a year before we got him. There is just too many things wrong with our club at the moment and I can only see Jose making us strong again.

The pundits louding the competitivness of EPL should just get real. The level of our competition went down immensely over the last 5 years. No English team in top 8 is a first time in a what? 10? 15 years? Our team of 2004-2005 would have been crowned champions around the first week of March.

P.S. Leave AVB in Naples. I take my words over Scolari back. AvB is the worst Chelsea manager since. There is no since. He is just the worst of at least couple of decades.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

21 Feb 2012 21:44:37

When a man calls our Chelsea "a project" - he should get a good kick straight at the balls for that. And a pink slip.

We look disastrous on the pitch. It took divine intervention to take Bosingwa off the pitch. Mr. Meireles got a goal agaist us. Can't wait for Malouda's input. Starting Malouda over Lampard should get anyone a sack. Anyone.

The only good thing out of this game so far is that we wont see Bosingwa the next game and Meireles will miss the game at SB due to yellow card.

The power struggle continues!
You got to hand it to AVB he's got some bottle picking that team for tonight's game.

Yeh fair play to the guy. He has shown some bottle picking that team.

Ed, is Essien fully fit now? Because I'm not sure who would pick merelies over Essien if he is. Crazy and as for Malouda and Bosingwa!! Do u think AVB is influenced by nationality? Honestly. {Ed013's Note - I think he is free of injury but not match fit. He is on the bench tonight but if he was match fit I would play him.}

Believable1 Unbelievable0

He is match fit, he's just not portuguese. Out AVB, out of here!! Ant take your buddies with you.

will support chelsea, and AVB to the end, but that team selection is terrible. essien is the driving force in midfield, cant lose that. the fact this man is being paid thousands of pounds to make medioker decisions that will NEVER work is just appauling, does AVB have eyes? makes the hardcore amoung us ill. im not saying AVB out yet, but that is just disgraceful

Just seen the line up, we are in major trouble! Bosingwa at left back and cole on the be bench! Malouda and meireles starting, essien and lampsrd on the bench! Signs of it all getting too much for him I'm afraid. I really do hope the performance and result tonight proves me wrong though.

NP {Ed002's Note - Cole is not fully fit, we knew that already. But the team is: Cech – Ivanovic, Cahill, Luiz, Bosingwa – Ramires, Meireles, Mata - Sturridge, Drogba, Malouda
Bench: Turnbull, Cole, Mikel, Essien, Lampard, Kalou, Torres}

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Even a semi-fit cole is better than Bosingwa at left back. AVB's choice to consistently play Meireles does not cease to amaze me, the guy is useless, should have essien starting and Romeu on the bench. Given his performances so far Meireles shouldn't get a look in.

Team i would pick fot tonight would be

I think its in AVB's best interest to keep it tight tonight, personally id leave Sturridge on the bench, i dont think his workrate is high enough in getting back, we will get exposed in a game of this magnitude, and we need 11 tryers on the pitch tonight, id go for the old two lumps upfront, keep it very tight and hit them on the break, Lukaku and drogs will cause any team in the world a lot of problems on the set plays, Napoli wont be expecting it. He needs to think outside the box, Napoli are well researched and well organized and he he plays the same formation and tatcics that he's been playing recently, Napoli will be well prepared and expose us, Torres, Studge, Lamps is plenty in terms of attacking options on the bench if its going badly, We will not break them down playing our usual 4/3/3 if we cant break Brum/everton etc down. Hope he changes it tonight for his sake

SHED END {Ed002's Note - We cannot publish posts with masses of hyphens and no spaces.}

If we sit back, like City did over there, CavanI, Hamsik and Lavezzi will pick us apart! Attack will be the best form of deffense tonight!

Heard rumour about rafa benitez replacing AVB.
Now, I think AVB is probably the worst manager, we have had in living memory, but the liversmall manager is even worse.
If AVB picks bosingwa in defence tonight, we will let in at least two goals. If meireles, malouda, mikel or kalou start, we won't score.
Tonight's team ?
Cech,
Ivan,
Cole,
Cahill/Terry,
Luiz,
Romeou,
Ramires,
Essien,
Mata,
Sturridge,

Cech

Ivanovic Luiz Terry Cole

Essien

Ramires Lampard

Mata

Sturridge
Drogba

I think AVB needs to adopt a line up Similiar to this if the players a re all available. I think we shouldn't try with the width. I think we would be alot more dangerous like this because we don't have any natural wide players that can cause problems.

Malouda, Bosingwa and Marieles should be locked in the dressing room, otherwise watch the flurry of comments regarding these players at the end.

Come on the Chelsea win lose or draw just put in a decent shift 2night! Fear for Avb if we get beat 2 or 3-0 gotta play Mata just off Drogba and lock mikel, kalou, boswinga, malouda and miereles in the changing room! last chance Avb prove us wrong and get us playing more attacking football! Mabe ask the players to past the ball forward in this game!

Even though this is very unfounded based on recent results, im so excited/hopeful for this game. my team would be cech,iva,cahill,luiz,cole/bertand, romeu, essien, ramires/lampard, mata, drogba sturridge or if AVB chooses a 4-2-3-1 which has been effective - romeu, essien, kalou, mata, sturridge, drogba with the same back five. going to put a cheeky bet on 3-1 drogba to score first. and lets get behind the team guys, the arguments over the last few days have not been needed.

Believable0 Unbelievable7

The same Rafa that Mourinho found so hard to beat?

Agree8 Disagree1

No the same rafa that spent millions upon millions on rubbish signings at liverpool, and got the bullet at Inter before christmas in his first season. Inter obviously had more sense than the gobs**tes at liverpool that took 6yrs to kop on.

Agree1 Disagree3

Like Torres?

Agree2 Disagree0

Torres has cost us only 50 million, whilst rafa spent some 200 million on pathetic players.

Agree0 Disagree2

Only 50m lol - what a total and utter waste of 50 million quid

But dont forget, Rafa also won the champions league AND got to the final another year. How many time is it that you have won that again?

Chelsea team tonight:

***********Cech*********
Ivanovic**Terry*Cahill**Cole
**********Essien*********
*****Ramires***Lampard***
***********Mata*********
*******Drogba**Torres****

A change of formation is what I think is tactically needed as we have very week wingers in Malouda and a too selfish sturridge.

FT9 {Ed002's Note - I would not be so sure that Terry or Cole will be available to play and I understand that they will be assessed around lunchtime - so I guess about now.}

Football is a fickle thing, my opinions on AVB have been a real rollercoaster of emotions all year. As I have stated previously when he first came in I was delighted, however recently I have found myself questioning his tactical nous.

Ultimately I have decided that his appointment is still a good one, I'll support him until such a time as he is allowed to have a real impact himself on the team. If I believe he has really been give the opportunity to do this, which at this point he hasn't, and things are still this bad; then my support for him will go.

When you look at the players he has brought in, whether they are his signings or not, most have had a positive impact; Mata and Romeu have been especially impressive. I now don't even believe that I was fair to question his tactical abilities, there is huge pressure on him to change the teams playing style to a more adventurous one. He has had to do this with a defensively minded squad which holds no attacking width! Him playing Sturridge wide right has annoyed people but he played a similar player (Hulk) in that position for a very successful Porto side to great success! Sturridge has been frustrating but no more so than Hulk is at times for Porto. Yes there is need for a more natural winger at times but Sturridge is having a good year! let him make real changes to the team and then judge him on those, most of the complaints about tactics this year are the same complaints that fans have had for the year,or more, before AVB! Let him build a team to which he can implement his tactics properly before questioning those tactics!

This isn't Mourinhos team anymore, even the return of Mourinho wouldn't see Lampard, Cole, Essien, Drogba or Terry return to former glories! The fact is the squad needs a large overhaul, this should be a gradual process but it wasn't. The next game vs Napoli isn't half as huge as the rebuilding process in the summer is! I say give AVB the chance to do the rebuilding himself! Support the team and support the manager.

In AVB I trust!

I would go for van der Wiel, as his transfer to Valencia has not gobe through, Hamsik (I'm telling this before the Napoli game, because after the two games most will be talking about him) and Goetze. Those three and a few not so champagne type of signings like Hoilett will put right back at the summit. And yes - i am not worried about our strikers at all if Sturridge, Drogba and Torres stay.

Ok in response:

eden hazard - 100%
willian - RUBBISH
lucas moura - 100%
lucas ocampos - Potentially....but with the above two coming in...I really feel it would be the wrong career move for the lad unless he is happy to wait it out....
higuain - Dont Rate him....he can stay at Madrid!
falcao - Decent - one of 2 or 3 strikers that we need to get.
hulk? - Does a job....and has the physical presence for the premiership.
fernando? Nope
joao mountinho - Good player....maybe...last resort!
cavani - 100%
modric? - He had his chance...he can stay where he is!
jovetic - I am 50-50 on this guy seen him play a few times and very unpredicatable...
azpillcueta - Rubbish
theo walcot? - This is clearly a joke!
adam johnson? - Never rated him....
akinfieve? - Dont need a keeper!

My additions would be Sahko, Subotic, Hamsik, GVW for rightback! Goetze is decent only at the right price, I am a big fan of Gourcouff and Pato! and if at all possible like we should have done yrs ago unsettle Aguero and finally bring him to the Bridge...lets face it...who really wants to play for city....no of the big names there...!

I think our best chance for our upcoming game is to go back to good Old Chelsea: no width and lots Of defense

............Cech............,,
Ivanovic terry Cahill . cole
Romeu essien Ramires
...... Lampard Mata
............... Drogba

I know theres three DMs but i think that's the only way to effectively stop cavani and co. I'm sure everyone will disagree but whatever
