We need to bring in a new CB to bring solidity back to our back line, a new CM because currently our midfield is all over the place and a CAM because Oscar is not good enough. Also maybe a new winger because other than Willian we haven't done well in that area and finally a new striker, with Falcao and Pato leaving due to their loan deal and Remy most likely to be leaving we need another, maybe fast and skill full striker to either play along side or instead of Costa. But we do have the likes of Traore who can appear in the team a lot.

We desperately need some bite and pace in the midfield. Matic, Mikel and Cesc are too slow. Changing to a three and although unrealistic bringing in an experienced engine in either Vidal or Nainggolan would be great.

I'd like to see one of naingollan Vidal Xhaka come in and I feel we may not necessar get one of these players (although vidals recent comments are reason for hope) we may get a player in their ilk like ngolo Kante or de Marcos. I think rlc will be embedded into the system like pogba was at juve but I don't think he would initially be a starter so I have a good feeling we may get two cm as I can't see both matic and mikel staying. Fabregas as inconsistent as he is I imagine could slot in well playing in between two energetic cm like pirlo did at juve. Not having to do much running just dictating the tempo and spreading the play; this may allow him to keep his energy and consistency up. So ideally I'd see us line up as naingollan fabregas Kante in the centre with rlc as fill in for a bit b4 breaking in the future like pogba did. I do worry it will be matic fabregas de Marcos or maybe Pjanic as i don't think pjanic or matic have the necessary mobility and de Marcos I don't think has the necessary quality.

I think we should involve a few youngsters in our remaining games because we have nothing left to play for apart from pride so introducing a couple of youngsters like Aina will be good for their futures.

Commonly there are questions on here about which former player we could use the most and usually I go with Frank. With that said the more I watch us the more I think the player we miss more is Michael Essien. Our midfield has been just completely overran this season on too many occasions to count. For all his strengths, Cesc is slow, doesn't cover much ground, and is poor defensively. Matic has to make up for the lack of a runner next to him and commonly gets pulled out of position exposing our defense. We desperately lack a midfielder with mobility and an engine that can take the load off of the rest of the team. We sold Ramires who had both of those qualities; however he was poor on the ball which hindered our buildup. I've found myself optimistic from the tabloids linking us with players of that ilk as hopefully the club have identified the need as well.

Excellent t. k. I am in the Frank camp but I agree with all you said about the midfield being over run. Essien had a commanding manner about him and Makelele was commanding and could organise those around him.

t. k. I can agree with you on your assessment why our midfield is falling apart. It's more up to formation and not only formation as it is but mainly how positioned are our CMs. They are lying too deep and that's a nightmare for Fabregas who is not defensive player. With given players we should be playing 433.

Essien was an absolute powerhouse of a midfielder it was a shame when he done his cruciate that time he was never the same after it some player he was for us do.

We definately need to change to a midfield three. A midfield engine like Vidal or Nainggolan would be perfect. Matic is class he's just in prolonged pot form I think a change in formation and a runner one side to help him will bring him back to his best. I agree on Fabregas as good as he is on the ball he's way to slow and he has a lot more negatives than positives.
