I must admit I had my doubts about Fellaini but after tonights performance (I know only one game etc!) surely he has to be worth consideration? He would give us some physical presence which I think we will need. Is or was there any real interest from Chelsea? Also ed002 should be shown a bit more respect by some of the tubes on here - i'm not surprised he's had enough of it. Hope you come back mate - I for for one appreciate your input.

Can we please drop this whole mikel thing, we all have an opinion on how good/bad a player he is, if he is good enough for fergie to want to buy and good enough to be in the majority of rdm's teams then he's obviously doing something.
Luke said it best what have you all done on a football pitch to make you think you could do a better job, does sir alex ferguson want you to play for man utd?
Trueblue012

Irrevelent, cause he is better than me. But the fact is he is playing for 1 of the elite clubs in the world, and he strolls around all game without breaking sweat. Fine if your a worldbeater in the mould of a Gullit but he clearly isnt

I'm not saying I could do better. But what I am saying is that there are players out there who could. And some of them are even in our squad already. I just don't understand how he plays week in week out. He is not world class and world class is what we need if we want to win the league. Do u watch the same game as me? Because what I see from mikel is slow backwards football. If that's what u like then fair enough but I certainly don't.

What you seem to not mention is SAF wanted him 7 years ago. He hasnt got half a percent better in those 7 years would fergie still take him? NO CHANCE! RDM is a mikel fan boy which is gunna cost him his job. o well peps already lined up. BLUEBOY1

Fergie develops players so well Mikel would have lived up to potential, fact is Mikel's level in 6 years has not developed enough and has had so many games getting the chance from the age of 18. Romeu is 21 next month and can't buy a game.
Agree2
Disagree1
I agree there are better players in our team, romeu for instance, essien could be if he gets back to his best which it looks like he could, i'm just saying rdm is obviously playing him for some reason, just remember it is the start of the season, not every player will play every game and p.s we were playing wigan ffs
Trueblue012
Agree1

Fergie also wanted Eric Djemba-(so good they named him twice)Djemba to play for United, and the silver Brazilian fox Kleberson and Massimo (the cat) Tiabi! Just cause Fergie wanted Mikel doesn't make him any less slow, poor at passing, poor at tackling and have poor positional sense!!

My original comment was in reference to today's game, but his performances last season more than suggested that he could do a great job for us.
He would play deeper, but there is freedom to move forward, i think he has the ability to get up and down the pitch in the way Lamps can.

everyone is always talking about how mikel is always slowing down the tempo of the game and passing to the side or back, which i agree on. but - has anyone ever thought of the point that maybe he has been told to do that by the management. Maybe RdM doesn't want a counter-attacking side. You must remember that he started as an ATTACKING midfielder and chelsea moulded him into a defensive one. Mikel keeps the ball for us (most of the time ). I think its fairly obvious that because Mikel plays regularly he isnt doing anything wrong and thats why he is in the first team. Maybe we dont want to see him therem, but he is there for a reason.
P.s - If he wasn't executing the tactics correctly, do you really think RDM wouldnt have dropped him by now?

Fellaini is a boss of a player. He totally dominates play and wins almost all aerial balls, his passing is good and he also has an eye for gosl. Sadly we aren't interested in him ,he could have been a wonderful purchase.

Don't know about anyone else but I feel that signing another attacking mid/ winger that would play in the trio behind the striker, ie Moses, should be bottom of our priority list right now. Dont get me wrong because i think Moses is a great player, however with all our signings this summer plus Piazon, I think we have more than enough players in that position, so i would much rather have another Deep lying midfielder, striker or RB at the moment.

Your ratings are ridiculous 10/10 for Hazard, he played well but not a perfect game, Torres 3, really, when he got the ball and ran with it he did well, he should have had a pen. And Luiz played better than that, as did Terry who were both solid.
Your ratings are lazy and based more on what you expect that what happened.

Cfcmatt I think you are misunderstanding me, i'm not saying lamps is past it i was pointing out he doesn't seem to pass forwards too much, besides there are other attributes to his game that make him the best midfielder in the world, such as his goal scoring ability and his organisational skills

To be honest guys, I'm not too fussed about opening day performances. I'd rather we do something similar to defensive and collect points rather than go hammer and tongs and drop stupid points. Not saying I like the style of football, but if we did this against a club say like Everton or Newcastle, it would be praised a well-thought out plan. If it was City/United, it would be hailed as a great defensive performance with clever breaks. After all, didn't Mourinho rely somewhat on winning ugly and closing out games? That is what separates champions from second, which is why United have been a force. Winning ugly, closing games out, taking key goals and stopping opponents scoring. Wigan were a potential opening day banana skin, look at Southhampton and how they nearly scared City. Would you have expected them to do that before the match looking at stats and teams? Hazard already looks the real McCoy, Oscar is already looking a wonderful buy, Torres did well but needs more direct service and Mikel/Lampard both slowed play down. On the bright side, we won. Looking forward to the new season.
3 more players in, 1 RB who we have discussed at length, 1 winger who as we said yesterday "We'll see you next week" and a marquee big name striker.
Chin up guys, hey we are not Loserfool!

According to IBTimes (not sure on the reliability...) Chelsea and Porto have entered final negotiations over Hulk and a fee is believed to be close to an agreement (I don't believe it myself but I thought I'd share it)

Nothing solid however, there have been rumours about Modric talks stalling with Real Madrid as Levy wanted an extra £2million at the last minute.
To be honest if we did decide to get him, I don't see where he would play, he likes to play attackingly like Lampard. But as we have Lampard we don't need someonelse like him...

He plays the double pivot role, which is where we are struggling to get the ball moving quickly with lampard and mikel playing there, personally we need a new player for that posistion but i dont think modric is the player for chelsea, like everyone else does..

Watched Lakaku at The Baggies he is dog rough for £18 Million quid and in no way is worth anything like that kind of money and as for the new Drogba I think that is nothing short of wishing thinking. I think Steve Clarke should have a word with RDM and Chelsea and say that its gonna take us the best part of 3 years to turn him into the new Drogba, then and only then will we send him back for a small fee , for expenses and the like ,i think £10 million should cover it with the proviso that we can take him back whenever the need occurs. This kid will terrify defences with his pace power and skill,he reminds meself of when Big Cyrille first burst on the scene at the Baggies ,as they share some of the same attributes, anyway I hope to see more great things from this kid for the rest of the season. anyways thanks for the loan and when he does eventually return you are gonna have a hell of a good player on your books ,thats hopefully that RDM has n,t misplaced the loan contract.
All the best for the new season(except when you play us) and congrats to RDM and Chelsea on last season ,s success,s.

Only saw the highlights but he did look good. Didnt really show himself during preseason but i think he had already decided what he wanted to do, im guessing he knew no matter how well he played he wouldnt be ahead of torres in the pecking order so didnt try that hard. Wish him and the baggies well this year.

Chelsea Nick. it is tongue in cheek as the text says, yes he is on loan,no recall has been mentioned up here,Baggies pay part wages,Lukaku goes back to Chelsea at seasons end,it reads that he impressed that much that chelsea will have to pay a fee to get him back or send in the troops to prise him away when the loan ends it was written as a joke, not his performance that is he will still become an awesome striker if nurtured correctly to the trials and tribulations of the premiership.

The amount of time people spend moaning about Mikel they could have written a book by now. Look, RDM is quite clearly better qualified than u in what he does and is at training every day watching these players. The fact that Mikel has important roles in the team under basically every manager we've had (especially the successful ones) shows that he ain't half bad. Stop moaning cause the fact of the matter is ylu don't have a say in team selection. We are Chelsea fans, not Arsenal ones, so support our players Ffs.

Ok 2 points.
Firstly, mikel. I'm sure that teh day will come when he will no longer be selected. However this will probably come at a price, ie being dropped after making a huge mistake. Ideally, the mistake would not be too costly, however it could be that he gives the ball straight to van persie in the 91st minute at 1-1 at OT.
Secondly, RDM. Lay off him guys, does anyone remember the early days of Mancini. He was labelled as ultra defensive, grafting 0-0s at home to arsenal. But look now, he has his own stamp on the team, and they now play their own brand of attacking football. Chances are , the same will happen for us, so be patient, don't expect instant succes , and let's go do Reading !!

Wats wid ppl slaying rdm's defensive approach? i m very happy wd yestrday's game xcpt the too casual approach. we won and dats wat matters. ppl shud stop expectng 'attractiv' attackng footbal from rdm.he didnt come here for dat. he himself said dat.
why do ppl only call attack as attractve futbal? we produced some excellnt defensve displays last seasn albeit wd sum luck. we hav the best defence in d world wen they play sanely. theres no competng their experienc and talent.we hav kane (future rb), chalobah(future club n country captain), ake(future dutch captain)....all im saying lets produce good defenciv displays and lets call that attractiv..
lets stop wid all brng guardiola chants....thers no guarantee he wil b successful here...barca 08-12 was a combination of coach+players...individually, success wil not b 2 d same extent. personally imo , if evry1 went barca way, ther wudnt b any need for defenders or strikers, only midfielders wud play all ovr d park..dmf in defence a la mascherano and cam in attack a la fabregas.
guardiola has been the most successful in making barca players a bunch of wussies and play-actors who hound referees at every foul...do u honestly see essien lying and crying for a foul everytim sm1 touches him?
chelsea had attitude dat made opponents piss in their pants. it can be brought back again i m sure...
lets just do what we r best at and evrythng else will fall in place...

All good teams have to build from the back. AVB came with a attacking approach last year and defensively we fell apart. 3-5 game vs Arsenal was very attacking and entertaining but we were all over the place and call me crazy but i dont enjoy getting beat so a scrappy 1-0 win will do me every time.

I mustve watched a different game then some of you guys. Besides scoring a goal torres was great. He made good runs (most of which weren't picked up), he took on defenders, he won some aerial battles, he drew a free kick and should've gotten a penalty as well, he released teammates, he almost scored his lone chance, and he stayed hungry despite the crap service he got (mostly due to gifting possession in the midfield).

I think the negativity is from people that didnt watch the game and then looked at the scoresheet afterwards and saw he wasnt on it. He played well, though did not show as much desire as against city, but we were 2 - 0 up by the time he touched the ball i think. He will get plenty of goals this year and more importantly in my opinion will be a good team player

I agree he did good when he had the ball, but there were times he just lets the passes go without even bothering to go for it.i just sense he's had enough of our midfield not providing, any striker would get frustrated when they constantly make runs but never receive that killer through ball.with oscar in our lineup hopefully this particular problem can be solved

He had 2 promising runs, the first was a definate penalty and 2nd half he did a nice run and was fouled just outside the box. Also unlucky not to score with the 1 cleared off line. My problem with him is he just acts like a sulky girl 99% of the time with his hands on hips, he will still go missing and hide when the going gets tough. A new striker to give him competition is a MUST.
