Someone needs to explain to Mikel that as a DM he needs to get stuck in and help our back 4 out! That's his job yet he disappears in games he misplaces passes all the time personally I hold him at fault for West Ham's 2nd and 3rd goals he's simply not good enough I'm not using him as a scapegoat but it's the truth he's what 6ft plus yet he's always getting knocked off the ball by smaller guys not good enough! Wasteful finishing by Torres and Mata should of won this game before West Ham equalised! How have the board upstairs not noticed that these changers need to be made. Rant over! Enjoy the rest of your weekend Chelsea fans!

How did Marin play anyone?
Jim132

Believable7 Unbelievable14

Only got about 13 minutes on the pitch, didnt really make a difference, made a few runs and a weak shot at goal, thats about it. I think we need to drop the 2 defensive midfielders and have 4 attacking midfielders with Marin on the left, Oscar on the right, Mata in the middle and Hazard playing just behind the striker.

Agree4 Disagree4

How can someone disagree with me asking how Marin played?!?

When we were at our best under Jose we dominated the midfield against everyone we played. Since then we have gone from 3 midfielders to 2. We desperately need to bring in another midfielder who along with Ramires will absolutely dominate the midfield. Idk who that is but until we get back to our dominance in the center of the park we will continue to lose games we shouldn't.

Tk

Believable6 Unbelievable1

This is coming from an arsenal fan you already have the midfielder your asking for which is essien but you decided to loan him out to real madrid instead of us i would of had him in our team anyday and it goes to show he is still a really good player that even madrid wanted him.
Ali {Ed002's Note - He is sick and back at Chelsea now.}

Agree4 Disagree0

Im with u 100% gooner. RDM didnt have a clue

Agree4 Disagree0

I agree with you Ali. I said from watching our preseason games that our best midfield pairing was the bison and McEachran (both of which that went out on loan). I understand if they think he isn't the answer but you can't tell me he wouldn't offer anything to this team currently.

Lets all be true too ourselves. Fernando torres needs to be replaced, this has to be our number one objective for january. Rafa has been put in charge hopefully he can guide us to top 3/4 in the league minimum. Ashley cole needs to be given a new contract. In certain cases players can play on past 30 and i would put cole in that bracket. The quicker terry gets back the better as we are missing a leader in the team. Im sure once a win comes the players will start to feel a lot more confident. The thing that worrys me is the performances are just as bad as the results. Jose mourinho is the only man i can see taking us forward and would give our club the stability it needs bringing a huge boost to the fans and moral surrounding the club. Lukaku should be recalled so we have a backup option. This season has bearly started and already im wanting next season to hurry up. The sacking of di matteo was a mistake and putting rafa in charge i believe was an even bigger one. Not all the time the £50m players turn out to
Be the best. I think chicarito from utd would suit our play as his movement and goalscoring record is great. Im sure with the young players we have our club has a great future but without a manager who players and fans can relate too we will keep taking one step forward and two steps back. Bring back the special one roman PLEASE!!!

NWBLUE

Believable2 Unbelievable3

If we can get contrao im happy for cole to leave.

Agree4 Disagree6

Dont have confidence in Cole anymore, always caught out of position and players get past him down the wing way too easy, let him go in Jan and get a quality replacement in.

Just watching the Madrid derby and closely watching how Falcao plays. 30 mins into the game and Real are 1-0 up but Falcao has really impressed me.
He is constantly running the channels in and around the box and tirelessly chasing down every defender and anyone who has the ball. His work ethic has been fantastic. Every corner, free kick and goal kick he has his hands in the air wanting the ball and showing a real passion to get the ball. His movement in the box is brilliant and has been a handful in the air against the bigger Pepe.

I really hope we can get him this January, his movement and work rate coupled with his finishing ability is what we are really lacking atm.

PB

Believable4 Unbelievable1

It was a awful game, Atlético couldnt even get a proper chance and the mitfield got completly bossed around. He did have a vero good work ethic and recovered some balls and helped the defense once in a while. But you could really see they played poor and Real played way better.

I said in the summer, that Defoe would be a good signing as a back up to Torres. I said he would be happy to sit games out etc, etc. Turns out he wouldnt of sat on the bench at all. With our midfeild behind him, he would be on 15- 20 goals already!

01 Dec 2012 19:00:26
The players wanted to play for RDM, he just didn't have the tactical nouse and experience we needed. Now we have a manager who does have the tactical nouse and experience, but the players don't want to play for him. Go figure.

Whats the plan now? The only manager out there who would guarantee us success is Jose, but would he come? And then if he does come, what next? How long would he be willing to stay? And when he does eventually leave, are we going to have another 7 years of managerial merry-go-rounds because know one can live up to him?

I don't know what we do now? When managers havent worked out in the past, theres always been 1 ready to step into the hotseat. From day 1 they would get the backing of our main players, like JT, Lamps, Ash, Cech, Dider etc. And this would carry us onto some good, exciting things, until a change of direction was needed. Then we'd go for the next one. And now the truth is we're fast running out of managers who would be willing to step into the hotseat. And now we don't have that strong spine that would carry us through the bad spells, we have a young team who need a manager to tell them how to play, and what their job is. So where do we go from here? Who is the long term answer for us? At the moment the feeling i get when someone is appointed is 'I wonder how long there'll last', then one bad patch later and their shown the door and we start again.

I'm worried we're never going to get out of this routine...

OsgoodIsKing

Believable7 Unbelievable3

Well....over a number of years the players have become too powerful. It has become an issue but sadly too late to change it. JT may be a ledge...but he wields too much power. In any club, the Manager has to be in charge and since Jose that hasn't been the case at Chelsea. I expect Rafa to be sacked in a month and replaced by yet another patsy... {Ed002's Note - Rubbish. The manager is in charge of whatever it says in his contract or job description - and nothing else. Typically that would include the training of the first team, tactics and picking the match day squad. Many clubs have a Director of Football co-ordinating across age groups, dealing with transfers etc.. Perhaps in some low division club in the 1930s the manager was responsible for everything - but that is light years from the case now.}

Agree3 Disagree2

I don't think they players don't want to play for Raffa. We are lacking strength in the midfield and a good striker up front. I think it is as simple as that. Then the spine will there for the hands (Oscar, Hazxard and Mata) to move freely. Proitos

Agree2 Disagree0

Totally agree, our midfield 2 have to be far more powerful/athletic. Able to defend but also give us much more going forward which is currently lacking. I'm also slightly disappointed in the 3 in front on current form. They really aren't causing teams the trouble we expected and other than the odd goal from Mata they are not creating or scoring enough.

I wonder if Mikel and Romeu can play together? He could play in place of Ramires to give us some strength in the midfield until January. Proitos

Believable1 Unbelievable6

Ramires are just joking. Hes one of our best players. We got beat by juventus 3-0 but roberto had the right idea in dropping torres. At times its like starting with ten men.
NWBLUE

Agree5 Disagree2

They already played together, didnt turn out too good? {Ed018's Note - agreed why any team needs to defensive mids is beyond me}

Agree2 Disagree0

Its more obvious than that, ramires is the defender, drop mikel & romeu. we need a passer with ramires. we are far to slow moving the ball forward with these 2 & being honest both are poor at passing.

Agree5 Disagree0

Ramires was a holding player at Benfica and with Brazil, he should play the defsive mid role with two players in front like Oscar and Lamps and get De Bruyne and Mcheachran back next season.
ramires can close down and tackle but his passing lets him down at times {Ed018's Note - Ramires played alot on the right side of a diamond midfield at Benefica. Javi Garcia was their defensive mid}

Agree2 Disagree0

He didnt actually play as a 2 man mid at benfica, they had a def mid but he did play their sometimes,

ED what do you make of this Situation it can't be just a dip in form did you not think it was strange to appoint Benitez on a interim basis knowing he is only there until the end of the season? {Ed002's Note - The whole point of appointing Benitez on an interim basis is that Chelsea need a manager to see out the season.}

I think a true assement on our season so far would be under di matteo we at times played some excellant football but have looked poor in europe. We are crying out for a natural goal scorer. We will be lucky to get £20m for torres. I think cavani would be our best bet as hes quick, strong and can head the ball. Also i dont think he would command a fee more than £30m unlike falcao £50m. But never mind buying players we should try to buy mourinho out of his contract as rafa will not win the fans over and thats rubs off on the players. Fellani and a striker must be purchased in january.

mikel is one of the worst players we have had at cfc he is to slow he has no physical pressence about him always losing possession with awful passes we need to get rid of him out of the team and get a player like fellaini in jan before our season sinks to new levels i am really worried about the club at the moment to many problems all the time at cfc the board really do need to look at themselves this is not rafas fault the club has been badly run for a while now, please sort this out roman because you have to, from a very unhappy cfc fan. Fellaini to replace mikel ??
Fellaini is playing just behind the centre forward at Everton and u want to play him as a holding midfielder.
Good one pal.
Glad ur not our manager.

We dont need fellaini, we dont even need a holding mid, ramires can do this very well. what we need is a ball distributor, ramires ball winner.

Phil Neville on MoTD said Fellaini believes he plays best as a DM, although he's been playing well further forward.

01 Dec 2012 16:00:43
I suppose I'm agreeing with JG's earlier post.We need aerial/physical threat up front from striker, a Ballack, Essien (in pomp) or Fellaini presence in central midfield (for at least some games) and Leader/s on the field (ok, Lampart/Terry injured, but who are the others playing today who can offer this?) when things get tough/oppn team gets lucky. Oh, sorry, I forgot -- we can't give more than a one year contract to anyone over 30. Munich beginning to feel like a distant wonderful dream.

'Arry Manager, his dog Rosie Assistant Manager would have done a better interim job than the FSW surely?

Poor RDM, poor us. Anyone out there can offer a despondent CFC supporter hope in these dark times?

OK, I've got it -- I'll buy the donkey, you lot can chip in with the palm leaves -- we must get the Special One back! VBS

Well I wasn't there today and I guess the fans who pay their money and went feel they have the right to sing what they want. But it strikes me we are turning in to a Blackburn and that many of the fans are going hoping we lose because we have a trigger happy owner who will replace Benitez. They need to get over it because it ain't gonna happen. There was a point in the second half when the tide had obviously turned and the fans starting signing 'one DiMatteo'. How does that help? Clearly it didn't as we went from bad to worse. Supporting a team should never ever be about the Manager. I support Chelsea because I love the club. The players are my heroes. That's why I go to games. I want them to win and I want to share in the joy and excitement of that. There is no joy listening to your own fans boo anyone connected to the Club. How anxious are the players going to be on Wednesday now with the booing beforehand....the 16 minute chant...and the DiMatteo songs later if we are not winning. Somehow this must change...no one needs to sing for Benitez...just sing for the team and lets get some positive vibes from the stands to the pitch otherwise we will risk going into freefall. The biggest result of this continuing negativity is that we simply won't be able to sign the players we want because the players will not want to walk into this mess. Today the first half was fine and we just missed getting the second goal. Their first goal was a generous decision and they simply overpowered us. This game is not just about the best players....it is also about the strong leaders....the latter is what we desperately need. CTID

hai ed..great site and great work..
horrible performance...absolute awful..
dont think any manager could do with todays performance.
i wont blame rafa one bit..
he had his team and we had atleast 4 clear chances to go front...
we should have had a 2 goal advantage before half tiime..no depth in the bench..
only 1 striker compared to UTD and CITY have 4 recognised strikers.

MIKEL....can we sell him for free??
horrible.. absolute horrible.

No manager could do any thing when your players arent performing...

Believable4 Unbelievable1

Sell him for free,, u mean like 'giving him away'

Agree2 Disagree0

Hazard was the only one managing to hold on to the ball and force west ham back and take some pressure of the defence, as soon as he came off it went even further down hill, so I have to say Rafa must take some of the blame but i agree there are too many players who are either just not good enough or cant be bothered to work hard for the team.

Agree2 Disagree0

I personally don't know how Mikel plays in the. Premier league ? He his slow , cant tackle , predictable and only passes sideways and backwards . I cringe when watching him . How can't anyone with half of a Brain see this player is holding the team back .

This isn't Rafa's fault at all and all these posts that your ashamed and you don't wanna watch any games then don't. Torres has had his chances, he wasn't good today, once again he missed crucial chances and it has cost the team. There 1st goal was a ridiculous decision, the luck wasn't with us today and i dont see how we can get out of this rut until Sturridge is fit and we can buy in January. Will Falcao or Neymar or Gomez come in January with no Champions League.

This is no Rafa's fault and the chanting and abuse during games is becoming shameful.

Fellaini, Cavani, Tiote/M'Villa, Hummels.

No Taisons, Schurrles and that type. A strongly built forward with pace and lethal shot. It is Cavani. A tough areal threat and big body in the middle in Fellaini. A proper DM for away games, rotation and so that we can have Ramires rest or play the wing when needed in M'Villa and finally a proper center back in Hummels.

JG

Believable9 Unbelievable0

The team has no spine, no presence and no leadership. For me the midfield area is just as much as a concern as the striker position.
Jimbo

Agree7 Disagree0

Bang on for me Cavani over Falcao because he's taller and faster which you don't get alot of and two presences in midfield in M'Vila and Fellaini is exactly what we need.

Agree4 Disagree0

Agree 100%, when we were the envy of the Prem in the days of Jose, we had a solid spine, Terry and Gallas at Centre Back, Makelele and Lampard working the middle and Drogs up front. Cavani should have been bought in the summer and we would be talking a very different type of banter. We need him not only for his goals but his fantastic work ethic, he never stops moving and always comes back to help the midfield and defence. We need a Makelele type of defensive midfielder and a good center back. Although Rafa is getting some stick, I do agree with him playing Cahill and Ivanovic together and having Caesar out on the right. 3 players needed in Jan maybe 4 if we can push for a left sided defender should Ash move on to PSG. Id call back Courtois and Lukaku and give them 1st team run outs. Cech knows while its just him as the 1st choice keeper he will always be picked but Courtois is going to be one of the best in the World in a few years. Lukaku has proven what he can do at WBA and we could use his strength up front to bully the opposition. Scott M.

Agree0 Disagree0

Only problem with cavani is that he thrives on counter attacks and crosses which we dont do very often. rather have falcao who can finish from anywhere.

p.s. torres is god awful and i hate him.

Sack the damn board. Especially Emenalo. What kind of depth do we have in this team? Whom to bring on? Whom to rotate? Where are the players?

What size are we? Freaking midgets. Every team we play recently just defends against us the same way and we are just powerless. Torres and Mikel should be nowhere near the first team squad. We need smth like 4 extra players for this team. And if you sell Torres and Mikel, that is 6.

We deserve what we have now. Headless management of the team. Only Mourinho can solve this. I told you all it gonna be a disaster with Rafa. It is.

JG

Believable2 Unbelievable0

How is this Rafa's fault? Everyone was crying out for rotation he does it? We only have Torres upfront and he played Romeu last game instead of Mikel. Hes rotating the squad and playing the best players fitness levels available. Its not the managers fault.

I don't have the option to go to games, if I did, I wouldn't eat for the week just so I could affor it. You blokes that think you go to the game, so you have more of a say then those that can't are a joke. Sign your posts and I'll give you respect on this site. I am Chelsea. I bleed blue. I understand what it means to support the club, I understand the hardship the club ha been through. 4th tear and back, loses in the cup, financial hardship. From Osgood to Zola I love the club, and my support is as valid as yours! I will never not support those on the pitch, I will ALWAYS keep the blue flag flying high!

Gutted ain't the word. Mikel not Chelsea standard. Cech liability. Bring back courtois. Champions league may become a distant memory, We may fail to qualify this year. M'villa for me, and Torres out. Lukaku can give us height, and good hold up play, recall him January. Here's hoping. Mon the blues!

Believable0 Unbelievable2

Actually it may not be a bad thing not to qualify for the CL. We don't desreve to be in it. We may do better in the EL. Proitos

Agree3 Disagree1

It's a real bad thing no champs league. Ever heard of FFP? We can't spend big without qualifying for champs league. FACT!

Agree1 Disagree0

And do we have to spend big? Look where he is got us. Proitos

Cech isnt a liability. it could of been 5 or 6 if it wasnt for him.

One of the biggest problem is that we need a freaking leader no one wanna step up when Terry aint here, so they just keep doing their own thing when it dosent work.
I really think its time Ivanovic,Luiz,Cech,Ramires to step it up and start telling people what they need to do.

Out of the title race, out of champions league, totally useless striker, can't defend crosses or high balls, trigger happy owner, no Direction, constant controversy, no stability, no chance of pep taking the job or Jose, no hope, no falcao, Gomez or cavani in January, or am I just being negative.

Believable5 Unbelievable2

So much pessimism. we aint out of the champions league yet, we are favourites to win the carling cup, we are still in the top 4 and the season is not even half finished. just be patient.

Agree1 Disagree5

The carling cup !! Is that really our ambition for the season. Well be in the 4,5,6,7, position mix for the league in a weeks time others are catching, and juventus will get a draw in shaktar. Season over.

What on earth are you blaming Raffa for? It is the team we have that is failing. There is no spine in the team and with physical teams like WH we loose the ball because Ramirez, Oscar, Hazzard, Mata are light as feathers. Open your eyes and see how no one up front is willing to take players on and go for it. They just pause and wait for God knows what. Proitos.

I don't disagree with u. I don't think Rafa should take all the blame. However, at the end of the day he will be judged on the result regardless...

For the first time in my life, I am ashamed to be a Chelsea fan. That was absolutely shocking, you cannot entirely blame Benitez, at the end of the day the players still have to go out and do the hard part. Only one player gave 100% and that was Marin, he came on and look lively and looked like he wanted it, all the others are just taking their place for granted in the team. Mikel is just a waste of space, I honestly don't see all the hype about Mata, yeah he's a goo player but he is bigged up way to much and Torres, just do one, I've lost patience with a lot of that team. Why an earth he took of Hazard, from what I seen he looked likely to score. A positve is that we scored. Let the hate come, I can handle it.

You can say what you want but this game isn't on Rafa. He wasnt the one that couldnt bury the other team when we had the chances. He didn't blow the call on the first goal. He didn't fail to pick up a player with 10 yards of space for the second. He didn't make an personic pass on the third goal. These players seem to refuse to play for him which is the second time in three managers which is dispicable. I'd say the fans deserve more but when they're not behind the manager what would make the players get behind him.

Great one. Never felt this low watching Chelsea. This display is disgusting. Players are reckless, reminds me of golden days of Scolari and AVB. Great decision, of course.

Was ABV's players that won the trophy! Di Matteo got lucky

It was Mourinho's players you clown, not AVB's.

I want Chelsea to give a manager, even Benitez a 5 year contract a keep them there for 5 seasons. I have had just about enough of our dumb owner and persons wearing suits in aoffice making footballing decisions....
They do an amazing job keeping the club running but they know nothing about making a winning squad.
We are fast becoming a joke in the League and we deserve it to be honest.
We have so much young talent at the moment and its wasted at our club.

Worst run in 18 years. Rafa can't be blamed for it all but 2 out of 3 he should've won. Bitterly embarrassed by what in watching. I wake up at 3am to watch a 0-0 draw with city, woke the next day. Wake up at 6.40 to watch a 0-0 draw with Fulham, work that day. Stay up til 1.30 am to watch a 3-1 lose with West Ham, work today. Never felt this embarrassed to support in 15 years. Get out of my club Rafa!

Great first 45 but boy do West Ham look uninterested. We need another, so I can watch a game in comfort for the first time in a while. Azpillicueta is immense! What you make of it ed018?

Melbourne CFC {Ed018's Note - it certainly is the best we have played in a while. I agree with Azpilicueta, we have something good there. Have to get the second goal though and put this away}

Agree Ed and Melbourne. I think they were forced to make a real last minute switch when Carroll was ruled out, he was working well as a target man whereas Cole isn't as effective. 3-0 for me, Hazard and Ivan to add to the good work and open a possible gap between us and WBA!
