sorry for being cynical but this optimism regarding our youth players bemuses me honestly no offense but some of you are deluded! it will be a while if ever before we ever see RLC in the team regul;arly (bench doesn't count) forget any others they'll be gone soon enough replaced by the latest ';wonderkid' and i'm willing to bet my mortgage on it

Sadly the Man is right, we are all getting carried away me included. You see what we want is possible not just probable would I love our back up players to be our younger players? of course I would, would that make us dominate like we all would? Honestly I think not. See there is always something missing and in the game today it's about winning, that's all that matters, so I say whatever gets us closer to that might not always be pretty, but it's what everyone plays for.

Mate football is a business at the end of the day, everyone at the club gets paid handsomely & they want to dominate European football why do you think mourinho came back? He gets to build he's own team that can win titles. what is it you have to complain about? If RLC & all the other youngsters deliver during pre season they will get their chances & if they need experienced regular football to be at the level we need them to be then they go on loan until they are good enough, if not the club gets a nice profit on each of them to fund towards " wonderkids " like zouma who is young & plays because he's at that level already, have faith mate

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Apr 2015 22:56:04
zouma had already developed into a beast before we bought him for 12 million hardly a homegrown academy product likr RLC ake or the others

Agree0 Disagree1

01 Apr 2015 23:16:44
No mate he was nowhere near as good as he is now after the games went on with the first team he got better & better & just played for the national team so it just proves players he's age have the be worthy of being in a league winning side & he's raised the bar for all the others to do the same, you've got no faith in the club

I agree Bluekaz! Good post, you're not being negative, only stating your thoughts which sadly. Is the truth.

When I saw us linked to Imbula last year, I was like what the heck? Why can't Chalobah or Ake take that spot? I know there's a difference in quality, but for 5th choice midfeilder , why not?

Take a look at Bayern. This may be a poor comparison due to the gulf in class between teams in Germany, but Pep started both Giordino and Hojberg (who I really really like) against man city in the champions league. i'm not asking for that, but 90 minutes from RLC and others like Ake in a dead rubber is absolutely neccesary, and giving RLC 10 minutes on 'academy day' is him not trusting him.

It needs to change. Doug costa no, Traore, Piazon ect, yes!

While I'd love to see youngsters come through, if it was a straight choice between youngsters and trophies (the 2 are IMO not mutually exclusive though) then I'd go for trophies every time.

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Apr 2015 17:15:50
but that's the thing honestly with our squad + a cb to replace terry+ maybe an am if oscar doesn't become more consistent( saying that he did play well for brazil the other day) we should be good enough (albeit with a bit more positivity in how we play sometimes) to win trophies constantly

02 Apr 2015 19:56:53
You need to remember that all the big teams in Europe strengthen every year so we need to keep up with the pace of having a team that is capable of challenging for titles & cups every year, i'm excited by he future of Chelsea just my opinion

I think it's very sad that Spurs had 4 players in the England team last night and we had none. Please Jose, promote 3 or 4 from our young players to the 1st team squad for next season AND PLAY THEM!
Good question, would you be willing to finish 3rd or 4th next season and win no trophies if we were to give 3 younger players 20 games each?

If mason is good enough then so is Loftus. He is already more of a complete player.

01 Apr 2015 15:43:27
I would rather win trophies to be honest. We could stil win and bleed one in at a time if they're good enough, ie Zorma. Maybe next season we can get Traore some time out on the wing, or Bamford a game or two. But in all honesty trophies first for me, keep on creating history whilst we can!

01 Apr 2015 16:17:41
Who's Zorma?

{Ed018's Note - obviously he meant to type Zouma}

Haha just joking ed

I would take trophies 8 days of the week and it's not close. The whole concept that clubs have a debt to the nationals teams is intriguing. The teams put money in the pockets of the FA and the FA publishes rules to limit clubs for the nations benefit (see hg rule changes). The homegrown solution won't get better until better players are produced which decreases the insane demand on the relatively mediocre amount of supply that is currently available. When clubs can buy a player of equal talent for half the price they won't care what country he plays for.

No offence meant mrs costa, but if it bothers you that much go and support spurs.

Agree2 Disagree1

02 Apr 2015 00:58:20
I see what he means, but does Andros Townsend deserve to be in the England side? I highly doubt it.

And where are spurs mate? 6th? Where they in other comps? It's all well and games, but from promoting there youth, they have no world class players.

You can't have both, you can have a winning team , with a couple of youth intergrated, but 4 + youth players in a winning team is unrealistic in today's age.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Apr 2015 16:22:44
Am I missing something here where are spurs were are we what have we won so far what have spurs won. if there good enough they will get in take the players from spurs I wouldn't have any of them my opinion. what's wrong with everyone football is now a business and a results business at that.

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Apr 2015 22:56:23
Mrs Costa don't you think that spurs has 4 players in english squad (and Manchester United have their defenders as English starters) just shows how poor English national team is? just think how many of those players would go and play for elite countries like spain, brazil, germany, argentina? Even Italy, Portugal, Uruguay Or France?

Agree1 Disagree0

03 Apr 2015 17:34:42
I agree with most of the comments - the only spurtz player I would take is Kane - but the point I was making is that homegrown players resonate far more with us fans (think JT). lwould just like our youngsters be given a chance rather than spending silly money on unnecessary players (Luis, Cuadrado, Douglas Costa!)

Anything new on Varane? The United editor stated its very unlikely he will join them does this have anything to do regarding us?

Cheers

Believable5 Unbelievable0

{Ed018's Note - I think you will see Varane at Chelsea next season and I believe Ed002 has mentioned he thinks it'll happen as well}

01 Apr 2015 11:10:12
You're right, Ed018. Ed002 indeed replied to a question of mine that he thinks it might happen this summer :)
It'd be very good news for the club, we need someone who can take over from Terry in a year or 2. And I'm convinced that Varane would improve even further if he could learn from Terry and play with him. Just look at Zouma, I'm sure he's learnt a lot from Terry.

The man united editor seems to think he'll stay due to pepe's age. I'm 50/50. If he didn't join I wouldn't be greatly bothered. I'd like to see Azpi/Luis as full backs with Ivanovic back up CB. Perhaps then aim for a quality RM if Oscar goes, BALE!

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed018's Note - which editor? Ed004?}

01 Apr 2015 17:01:22
I'll be intrigued as to what happens with cahill. I'm not sure how he'd respond to not being a regular starter in the same year as the euros.

Agree2 Disagree0

01 Apr 2015 17:22:14
Yes that's the one ed. Ed004

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed018's Note - I'm suprised he isn't saying that Varane will join United}

01 Apr 2015 17:37:15
Maybe he might know the truth and is being bitter because he will join us.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed018's Note - I don't know, you'd have to ask him. His reply would probably involve a United formation involving, Reus, Bale, Hummels and Pogba.}

02 Apr 2015 01:00:44
I still miss ed061, what a man!

And my post didn't come throhgh, most probably a problem my end.

Post was (Years of joy :') cheers eds, you kings, I'm holding you to this and if doesn't happen! I'm slaughtering you online ;)) )

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed018's Note - we had a Ed061? What page was he usually on? I can't remember. I know a few years back there were a lot of editors}

02 Apr 2015 09:13:22
He was editor of this page mostly about 2-3 years go when there was the spurs-chelsea pages was against eachover (well done pinky lol)

When did you start editing this page 18? Was you a poster before editor?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed018's Note - I've been an Editor on this site for probably 6 years now. Yea I posted before becoming an editor. I was told who Ed061 was this morning, yea I remember him helping out on this page}

02 Apr 2015 11:44:30
Wow! Solid job mate! How long has this site been around?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed018's Note - I'm not certain on that. I remember when there wasn't separate pages for each team. You'd have to ask Ed001 but if had to guess I'd say 8-10 years}

02 Apr 2015 11:45:22
I think I've been on this site for 3 years now, can't remember.

What name did you post under? Wonder if it would still come up in the search function?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed018's Note - back when I posted there wasn't a requirement to register and have a name so I don't think you'd be able to find any of my posts}

02 Apr 2015 12:01:26
Ahh under Anonymous! No worries, was just curious to see if any posters from them are still around, I would reckon Bluekaz or Pinky are longest posters now

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed018's Note - pinky/Curt has been around for a while. I can't remember who else. I know Melbourne has been around for a while but he doesn't post much anymore}

02 Apr 2015 12:56:19
Curt is still around?? Or he was one of the first?

And yeah shame about Melbourne, he posted on conspiracy site for a bit but it seems he's a very busy man

02 Apr 2015 13:58:06
Ohh you think curt is pinky haha, my bad

02 Apr 2015 11:55:59
Interesting! I remember that page , the one for all the lower league teams, I never knew there were links to other pages haha, even though I remember them all being hyper linked at the top of the page.

This is another point for Ed033 or ed001, whatever one runs this part of program, why is there a hull city page, but it's not linked on any of the 'search for other pages' link thingy? Like you can get to the Hull page, but you have to get to it seperately, it's not linked with all the other ones at the top of the page. Just wondering why that was :)

Cheers

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed033's Note - Hi Aron,
The hull city rumours page is part of football-rumours.co.uk and not a separate web site. Only the separate web sites are in the links drop down menus. Maybe we could have customisable drop down menus for logged in visitors at some point where people decide which links are in the drop down menus if logged in.

02 Apr 2015 18:28:37
I remember reading this site back when there was only the one page. Started posting back in '08 I think. Still remember being 1000% adamant that Robinho was going to join us before he made his deadline day move to City.
