Thought I'd have a go at player ratings (please don't give me grief about it because it is MY opinion):
Cech 8- Pulled off a good save in the first half from Hernandez and that save in the second half was absolutely SUPERB!
Azpil 7- Probably our most active defender. Dealt with everything he had to.
Luiz 6- Not really that much to do. Quiet performance.
Ivanovic 6- Pretty much same as Luiz.
Bertrand 6- Again same as the centre halves. Didn't push forward as much as Cole does but solid enough in defence
Ramires 6- Tried a few bursts but nothing really came off for him today. Solid enough though.
Mikel 7- Few good interceptions basically a normal days work for Mikel but I noticed he was a little more positive in attack.
Oscar 5- Really disappointed with the little lad. Passing was short, looked a little leggy, didn't really offer much in attack and was probably more effective at tracking back.
Mata 5- Pretty much same as Oscar. Uncharacteristically loose, short passes, again looked a little fatigued but good ball to assist Demba.
Hazard 7- Looked the most positive of the 'Three Amigos' having a few jinking runs but unfortunately nothing came of these.
Ba 8 (MOTM)- Brilliant today. His hold up play allowed others into the game. Strong, pacy and always looking to drag the defence back. Took his goal absolutely brilliantly. Top draw finish.

Not the greatest performance. I thought 2 of our most influential players were a little bit weary but all in all a good victory. All we need to do now is keep on winning EVERY game that comes our way. Simple right, right?

Believable1 Unbelievable7

See this is terrible people wanna think mikel is this super player, but he got done more than he made tackles, ramires covered him really well.

Agree6 Disagree5

I'd give Cech a 9/10, THAT save, clean sheet, organised defence well as he was captain.

Ed, in terms of new players hopefully arriving in the summer, will the manager have a greater input in to the process, that you have extensively explained, or will it remain the same where the manager is one part of a group who make decisions?Thanks. {Ed002's Note - What makes you think he has not been part of the group making decisions?}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sorry Ed, I should rephrase, will the new manager, whoever they may be, have any greater amount of input in to the process than their respective predecessors?Thanks in advance and sorry for the confusion in the question. {Ed002's Note - What makes you think he has not been part of the group making decisions?}

Agree0 Disagree0

I do not think that he has not been part of the group making decisions, however, I just wanted to ask whether this summer he will be afforded more power in the decision making process please? {Ed002's Note - I cannot see how you want this measured.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Will the opinion of the manager have more authority over the opinions of the other people involved in the process this summer? {Ed002's Note - You seem to be digging a very large whole here.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Just a simple yes or no will suffice {Ed001's Note - but your question doesn't even lend itself to a yes or no answer!}

Agree1 Disagree0

Your asking a question about the level of authority the manager who we don't have yet will have on transfers. how on earth is ed supposed to know this.

Ed002, that Hicks prank on the Liverpool page was brilliant, fooled most of them very easily and even got trending on twitter and banded around with the guillble fans worried sick about it. Would be hilarious if it actually happened mind. Keep up the good work, all the non-persons who visit the pages appreciate it!

Something that I am noticing more and more is our ability to play really well and disciplined against stronger opposition in big games where we have done pretty well over the past couple of seasons.
However many of the players seem to be unable to carry that form and commitment into the games with lesser teams hence why we keep dropping points.
Any team that wins leagues has at least 5 to 10 games a season where they play really poorly but still manage to grind out a result, we seem to have lost that ability and subsequently have not challenged for the title for some time but have remained competative in cup competitions with one off ties.

Totally gutted for our U 19's. Villa got 2 really soft penalties, Chelsea denied a 'soft' penalty going along the guidelines that Villa got 2 soft ones. Kiwomya unlucky to get sent off, Burke lucky to stay on the pitch for Villa. Great tournament boys, and great for Lewis Baker to be player of the tournament.

For anyone whos interested Chelsea u19's in the next gen final is currently on eurosport, 1-0 down from a penalty on 50 mins, playing good football though.

Today the team was correct and everyone played brilliant. But i'd preferred us to beat Southampton and lose today

Believable7 Unbelievable2

Perhaps Saints are a much better team than you, a lot of other Chelsea supporters, your manager and your team thought?

No, that can't be the case because you gave them such a pasting at your place!

southampton supporters need to go back to there boring pages instead of monitoring the european champions pages just a thought

Agree7 Disagree2

Southampton played well sat and deserved their win. They have a good young manager and next season looks brighter for the team and supporters. But if an inform full strength southampton team played any of the top six in form full strength teams then southampton would probably lose ten times. You have a long long way to go yet

Agree2 Disagree1

Meant to say if you played them ten times you would lose ten times.

Agree0 Disagree2

I'm bit saying Southampton are poor side or didn't play well but rafa rested out best players to get one over fergie! Mata Oscar and hazard together and Ba we would of win the game,, hopefully spurs and arsenal skip up because I'm really not confident despite the great win today

Agree1 Disagree1

Mata was ill and I thought that showed yesterday he wasnt at hi usual high quality, apart from the pass for goal of course. also I thought oscar did play

hate to say it, but the starting 11 today is by and far our best 11. Think terry will be back in next year when he is fully fit, but lamps has been played out the team. Still a true legand and I hope he breaks the goal scoring record. This starting 11 should be rested on Thursdays and be our premier league 11.

What about Mikel out?

Agree3 Disagree4

No. Starting 11 today was our best without doubt either that or terry cb and luiz instead mikel

Mikel played really well today. I don't understand the hate.

Who would you replace Mikel with?

why does everyone overate benat? drop oscar deeper (which is his best position anyway) and replace him with de bruyne? that makes so much more sense

Believable7 Unbelievable7

Is Oscar going to play 90mins every game? Need to think about the squad, not the starting 11 all the time!

Agree1 Disagree2

This is what annoys me about my fellow chelsea fans, you're mostly glory supporters! You don't pay 20million for a back up player. Back up players should be the younger lads, chalobah, josh? I agree that Benat would be a good addition to the squad, however not for the fee we would have to pay! Far more financially prudent things to do to fix the midfield.

Assuming we keep the 4-2-3-1. the 2 mids should imo be. Mikel, Ramires, oscar, Luiz and possibly a young lad like Josh (preferably a holding midfielder).

The chances of that heppening are slim to nothing, but if Jose comes back he will fix it for sure, so we don't need to worry anyway.

Oh and by the way, a shocking statistic is that between club and country, nobody at chelsea (including juan and petr) have player more games than oscar this season. 63 is the current total.

Agree0 Disagree2

Practically every player is a squad player! Players are then picked on form and fitness! Our squad right now isn't good enough to be challenging for the Premiership or the Champions League!

Is Josh McEachran an upgrade to our squad? No!

Is Benat an upgrade to our squad? Yes!

Agree1 Disagree0

I agree Josh isn't ready yet. But when will he ever be classed as reay if you don't give him a chance? We have probably the best youth team in the world and they're just being wasted because of the lack of stability. managers come and go and know they don't have long before RA gets impatient, so they can't risk fielding the youth. This is the problem.

While you may argue that sacking managers works for us, it doesn't from a financial and image standpoint. I wish we could keep a manager even 3 years, give him time to implement the youth, enhance the hazards, oscars, mata's and let him build a team. Not a squad of good players, but a TEAM.

Agree0 Disagree1

If a youth player is good enough he will break into the first team! There is a massive difference in being good players at youth level and doing well in the pros, McEachran will not ever be ready for our first team now; his development stalled!

Azpilicueta was absolutely sublime again today, what a steal he was for £7 million. Reminds me of Ramos defensively and Alves offensively and still plenty of time to grow. Ba wasn't playing today, Drogba snuck back into the bridge to haunt Fergie again. Bertrand nullified the left for United and if Mata, Hazard and Oscar had been more composed, we could have had 4-5 goals. Cech is still world class, we knew that and Courtois will be as good if not better. Luiz looks like he has grown up since November and Rafa, he looks like a proper CB now. And Mikel did exactly what he needed to, break up play and stop United flowing. Good performance all round for me and hopefully we can continue that against Kazan on Thursday.

Dave had a great game considering he played 90 mins against Southhampton too!

Because he is! needs a proper back up next year, not wallace or iva :)

After Zabaleta probably the best right back in the league.

Really proud of this team, United hardly had a sniff at goal, I thought our Center Backs and Full Backs did very well today. Ba was exceptional held the line very well, it was like watching Drogba all over again. Mikel showed what he is capable of, he looked up for this game and bossed the center of the park. Thought Ramires put in a real shift and Hazard was a constant threat.

Everyone played well today and showed what we can do when were defensively solid and allow our attacking players to get on the ball higher up the pitch.

Lastly I haven't been his biggest fan but I thought Bertrand did really well coming on at 22 minutes, he kept Valencia and Nani quiet all game.

Believable9 Unbelievable1

But not a word of praise for your manager?

Puzzled

Agree3 Disagree10

His team selection was spot on, i'm one of the only people on this page who hasn't slated Benitez.

Agree3 Disagree5

No cause I still thinking the three points we dropped at the saints is more important, even thou its a great feeling to beat the scum

Agree5 Disagree0

What Praise does he deserve? He played our best possible line up. He's still a person.

Agree5 Disagree1

Yeah he did pick the best line up but he can't proven pick the team consistently every game

Ill be honest I was gutted when Bertrand came on but he's been fantastic today going forward and in defence. Just needs more consistency.

CfcBenWxm

Believable7 Unbelievable1

I was a bit worried when Cole came off for him, but he did really well. Also pleasantly suprised by Mikel, Absolutely bossed the middle of the field, sometimes when he's on the ball you just can't get it off him.

The frustrating thing is why do they turn it on for the big games, my blood pressure would be a lot healthier if they could play like that all the time.

Spot on team selection from Rafa.

Agree5 Disagree0

Mikel bossed the midfield? I wouldn't say so at all!

If I had my way this would be the signings I'd bring in:

Cavani:- I just prefer him over Falcao.

Benat:- The deep lying play maker we need reminds me of Pirlo very underrated also a good tackler could form a good partnership with Luiz in the middle. Never been a lover of Mikel.

Sven Bender: the midfield steel we need. Great at reading the game.

Recall: Kalas, Van Aanholt, De Bruyne, Lukaku

Loan Out: Courtois, Ake, Chalobah, Bertrand, McEachran, Piazon

Out:

Hilario, Ferreira, Bruma, Benayoun, Malouda, Torres, Ba, Kakuta and Essien.

Without spending too much.

CfcBenWxm

Believable13 Unbelievable2

Excellent post. Much better and more realistic than all of the fantasy posts on here. I believe it is just three players needed and that would be a dm like bender or Fernando. A striker like Cavani or falcao, and another striker if we sell ba.

Milkybar dave

Agree2 Disagree5

Oh really? Leaking in goals left and right surely has got nothing to do with JT being over the hill and Iva & Cahill not up to the task.

JG

Agree2 Disagree6

Good post. Think Bertrand and mikel should be shown the door. Along with benayoun, Torres, one of Cahill, terry, ivanovic.

Agree1 Disagree7

Great post. But I think Bertrand needs to be replaced can't see him being good enough to replace Cole
