As far as I can see we have 5 maybe 6 younger players ready to break into our first team SQUAD. All for good reasons.
Lukaku-17 league goals at west brom.
De bruyne- 10 goals, 9 assists.
Van aanholt- best left back in holland, really come on leaps and bounds.
Courtios- we knew last year he could be something special top top keeper already at 21.
Mceachran- the deep lying midfielder with cutting edge passing we need desperately.
Challobah- why not let him have mikels place, but if Watford get promoted another loan would also be very good.

Others- piazon a loan in prem next season, bamford still young, Kakuta is a good player but his career stalled, maybe sold on. Kalas has played a lot at right back, loan in prem. omerou had good afcon but not league I'm afraid. Pirez and Davila should be moved on never gunna cut it along with delac.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I pretty much agree with all of this. but I think it is too early to give up on Kakuta

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah Kakuta has had some good games this year, but is he really going to be good enough I don't know. And I think he said he wanted to leave us. Not sure though.

Posted this awhile back. There is not much to be done in the summer. Don't throw silly money back and forth. Bring in Lukaku and DeBruyne. They are ready to start on this team, let slond be in it. At 65 games at least on our schedule playing in half of them would give you just as much playing time as they both receive at their respective clubs. So what is the actual point in keeping them away much longer?

Saying farewell to the likes of Benayoun, Malouda, Marin, Torres and hopefully Obi Mikel will free up some first team places. In an ideal world the perfect replacements would be:

Lukaku for Torres
Schurrle for Marin
DeBruyne for Benayoun/Malouda
Xabi Alonso for Obi Mikel

Add Cavani/Lewandowski to the mix and a proper center back. The team is complete.

Spot on, but I'll rather Khadira than Alonso.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd rather we go for Gundogan, and while he's probably not available this summer, I'd wait and try again next summer. Don't really fancy Khedira to be honest

Hi Ed002, is there anything to conclude from the fact that the agent of Michael Laudrup was present in the directors box today as a guest of the Chelsea board?Thank you for your time. {Ed002's Note - Twitter?}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No, the TV cameras picked him out during the game apparently, Is there a possibility Laudrup could be our next manager Ed002? {Ed002's Note - Sounds like the sort of thing that appears on Twitter.}

It was confirmed on chelsea tv before the game. Laudrup was a special guest of the chelsea board at todays game.

Rafa has got us playing entertaining football. The players obviously love him. He is giving youth a chance. He is probably one of the best tacticians. With rafa and a couple of extra players we have the potential to be an exceptional team playing exceptional football in the next couple of years. Will the football be as good under Jose and more importantly will the young players be given a chance and will our flair players be as happy as they appear to be now. Winning by grinding out results or having the chance to achieve something by being an outstanding football team playing fantastic football. I know which I would choose. Sid

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I just wanted to add that it is my dream and I assume most supporters dream to win the premiership, champions
League, and deserving too by playing the best exciting and attacking football. And for pundits to accept that this Chelsea team is the best. I think with the players we have now, and with our outstanding young players, and with a few additions this could be our one chance to impress a generation. With Jose in charge is this going to happen?

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe it's just me, but under Benitez when we're one up I always get the feeling the other team's going to equalize. It's almost never a comfortable win. I think that's what Jose can bring to this team. The mentality to finish other teams, to take away any hope they have of getting back into the game.

what many thinks here is jose is going to start from where he is left. last time man city was just a city. spurs were just a team. it was jut 4 clubs.
now its 6-7 clubs. away matches are always difficult no matter where you go.
he will have to spend at-least 100 mill. probably that will end the career of young players.

Agree0 Disagree0

What is this massive problem people have with jose and youth players, for a start its not even true, if you are good enough to play then he will play you, no matter your age, and i'm sorry but I would rather win a league or champions league than sit and admire what fantastic young talent we have that one day might become good. start to do that and that's when you become arsenal.

Whats the crack with people saying Micheal Laudrups agent was in romans box at todays game. surely load of crap eh?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Would not surprise in the slightest, we have the chance the get José Mourinho and we choose Michael Laudrup, says all you need to know about people making decisions, particularly one guy, the same guy who recommended Benitez and pushed the candidacy of Pellegrini too, looking after his own self interest in fear of losing his job if Mourinho came, the tail wags the dog unfortunately in our case. What's the bets Laudrup gets sacked before next Christmas, choosing a guy who won the capital one cup because he plays tippy tappy football and, like Villas Boas, flavour of the month, over potentially one of the best of all time and an icon to the fans in José Mourinho, I rest my case.

Another Spanish newspaper, broadsheet El Mundo, also reported that Mourinho may not even be in charge for Real's final two games of the season against Real Sociedad and Osasuna.

"Madrid want to sack Mourinho now, " it claimed. "The board and the president, Florentino Perez, have had enough after the defeat in the final of the Copa del Rey and the tense situation in the dressing room, and are planning to bring to an end the Portuguese's reign immediately.

I would like Torres to stay and Ba to go. Lukaku needs one more year on loan. All and all a successful transitional season with the new boys gathering vital premiership experience. Let's push for the title next season. Proitos

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Lukaku is ready to play for us, if he can score a hattrick against Manchester United he is ready!

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest, Man u were pretty bad today and for them it was mostly a farewell match. But non the less Lukaku has had a stellar season. He is ready, but I would like him to be on loan for one more year, as he would get lot of full time action next year and will develop even further which will be probably better for us and for him. He should go to WBA on loan next season to continue to develop himself and to be even better. I believe next year is a cruial year for him, it is year where he fully establishes himself as a top striker, a bit like Courtois.
roan

Agree0 Disagree0

I can only agree with the Torres statement. I'd prefer him to stay, he seems to want to stay and he has been improving and seemingly consistently playing well recent. Yes, he's struggled with goals, but Ba hasn't looked brilliant in a Chelsea shirt since his debut. Leave Torres and sell Ba. Perhaps bring Lukaku back, give him pre-season to see what he can do!

Agree0 Disagree0

Torres does not earn his wages at all. one goal in the league in 2013 is woeful stats for a midfielder let alone a striker. he's had a good end to the season and we should use that to sell him on for a decent price.

Lukaku has scored about or more than twice Torres' goals in the EPL in his first full season on loan at Westbrom without proper service. Even at Liverpool, Torres didn't score 20 EPL goals in a season! Yes, he's had a decent season, but before today, when last did he score in the league? If we can get Cavani, then both Torres and Ba can leave with Lukaku back to the Bridge. Otherwise, keep Torres and Lukaku and sell Ba. A good centre back, a CDM, Schurrle plus De Bruyne back and we'll have a great squad.
Bas!cs.

Agree0 Disagree0

In his first season at pool he scored 24 in the league in 33 and in his last but final season he scored 18 in 22 matches in the PL.
roan

Agree0 Disagree0

He has played 36 times for us in the premier league, scoring 8 goals.

jscottjr

games contributing significantly to the wins.

Franco

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No I thought he was tidy and full of energy, hopefully this is the first of many appearances.

It looks as though he has the best qualities of Ramires (energy, pace and stamina) but with better composure on the ball and a tidier pass, could be a fantastic midfielder.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hopefully next year he gets a lot of first team football, wherever it may be. I personally hope chelsea start to use him more often. Wonder though if his best position is in midfield or in defence

Hope rafa gets a good send off today. At the end of the day he is going and guided us to another european trophy and champions league qualification. I think the club was up and down until the boro game, rafa had a rant and the fans got behind the team. Since then we have looked together as fans and a team. The one thing I would say is if the players could motivate themselves for the so called lower teams like reading, southampton etc like they have for the big teams then we could have been even closer in the league. Next season could be the start of something massive for our club as the other top teams in the league will be losing top players/managers. If we could bring in three/four top quality players plus bring back mourinho then I can see us dominating english football like utd have.

Just a thought, would anyone take Darren Bent at the club as a back up striker? Relatively cheap money, proven to get goals in the league and would probably understand playing second fiddle to someone like Cavani (or any other big name striker we may sign). Thoughts?

AK

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think Bents past it but I don't know as I haven't seen him play for a long time

Agree0 Disagree0

Bent can't get into villas side, what makes you think he's good enough for chelsea?

Jordan

Agree0 Disagree0

Just thought for probably around £10 million he could be a good provision of depth. Could be used to give main striker a rest (if we sell Torres and Ba). He's still quick, doesn't venture too far out wide which often is a problem for us as there's no one in the middle and is the 'fox in the box' kind if player we haven't really had for a while. That said, I'd much rather just see Lukaku get his chance in the team.

AK

Agree0 Disagree0

£10m for a guy who can't even get into Aston Villas team! Maybe two years ago I would have taken him, but definitely not now. {Ed018's Note - yea this is a bit silly. Bent doesn't belong at Chelsea at all. What a huge step backwards that would be}

Ed002, I have a question, that may not have a quick and easy answer, but if you have time, could you please shed some insight into the specifics of the formation of Chelsea transfer policy.

I distinctly remember that at some stage, when asked if Chelsea were looking into "wingers", you pointed to the fact that the club did not perceive their transfer policy in such subjective terms, but rather look for players that would add to the team. This coincided nicely with us forming the attacking trio of Hazard, Mata and Oscar, none of whom are wingers per se, giving us a distinct shape from other clubs.

It would still seem that some basic positional sense is there for example in defense, where the roles are pretty set in stone, but certainly the midfield is no recruited based on the formations of old (be it your 4-4-2, with distinct wide players that are good crossers of the ball or the like).

Could you shed some insight into exactly what underpins the selection criteria for midfield players a bit more, and while I'm not sure it will in any way stop the flow of endless questions, such as: "are we in for more wingers?", it would certainly help more regular readers form more of an understanding of the transfer policy by Chelsea FC.

Thanks for your time, ed. {Ed002's Note - I really cannot see an easy way to answer this. Sorry.}

19 May 2013 12:49:13
We've moved from 433 and perhaps 422. We now play a 4231 formation with basically 5 'midfielders', and this is one consideration in our player recruitment 'policy'. This formation (4231) requires a central midfield pairing of two for the holding/defensive, playmaking from deep and box to box roles. They have to be really good in shielding the back 4, breaking up play with hard well-timed tackles, good range of passing and help play transition by quickly joining in attack. (IMO, this is the area we've suffered most this season and needs real upgrading as our central midfielders - Lampard, Mikel and Ramires - are more suited to 433). The centre backs have to be quick and real ball players to aid in possession. Luiz excepted, our other available centre back options seem to suffer in this aspoect - I expect an upgrade. The formation makes room for just one 'striker' and the remaining three 'forward players' are classed as midfielders; they are often versatile with one tasked with playing the 'No. 10' role. They could necessarily interchange roles and are basically players with vision who can create as well as score goals. (This is why comparatively we're still up there in the goal scoring charts even without most of our goals scored by the 'strikers'). They don't need to be out-and-out wingers but 'foward players' with good technical attributes - skill and flair, etc. The fullbacks in this system should be capable of venturing forward to add width without compromising their primary duty. These generally, ceteris paribus, typify our 'recent' recruitment model.

Put yourself in his shoes, the world record fee and the fact he came from a rival not to mention various pundits labelling him as a "flop". Give it a rest, I'm going today and I will be cheering for every player and Rafa, a season which maybe hasn't gone as well as we'd hoped but this will make it 69 games which must be gruelling.

Torres may not have scored much in his previous two season, because this season he has a decent enough goal return, but he had significant contribution last season in terms of assists, I think he had the second highest assist last season other than Mata. This season when he has scored and played with some confidence his play has been brilliant at times, way better than Rooney's, who has no pace now and who is being supposedly targeted by Chelsea. Plus he is getting better and better and in the Europa final he was the best player on the pitch.
For me he should stay another season.
So a joke, I do not think so.

Agree0 Disagree0

Marin doesn't deserve to go. He deserves a proper chance. If he can at like he did in Germany he's better than Moses.

Agree0 Disagree0

See that centre midfield hasn't got a decent distributed of the ball which a good two man midfield need. It's all about defensive which doesn't help mata hazard break free and in decent space. You usually have for example. Passer with a def mid. Or you can have a box to box with def mid. Not two def mids. Other wise you find the attackers will come deeper and deeper to receive the ball closing everyone out. We're better off playing either luiz or khedira, with Oscar mceachran or ramire. Ramires can play either spot.
