It is either a coincidence or something is not quite right, in the fact that, for the second consecutive summer, the club whose centre half we would like to buy will not sell for any price or under any circumstance.

Frankly, the club should pull the plug on Koulibaly and tell Di Laurentiis that we will no not be conducting any future business with them, no loans to them (Chalobah), nothing. The same applies for Everton. I can accept a club not wanting to sell, but not wanting to sell to specific club is pathetic, small minded and stinks of ego.

I think we are going to go with what we have and there will be no more incomings because the club quite simply won't get involved in overpaying for players not worth the money.
I am fine with that but I will not be expecting a title challenge. Top four is what the objective should be and try to build on that next season. However, if inflation is this bad this window, this time next year prices will be even worse if they follow the same trajectory.

We will make more signings. Trust Conte.

Don't think we have really wanted lukaku, certainly don't appear to have made a bid for him.

20 Aug 2016 02:49:14
Its that type of childish response that makes people cringe. Don't take it so personal. If a club offered us less for a player than we thought we could get would you want us to sell?

Agree3 Disagree3

20 Aug 2016 10:52:22
I agree Melbourne - Di Laurentis is already under pressure from the fans for selling Higuain to rivals Juve - Koulibaly is under contract until 2019 - Napoli are a huge club - after the sale of Higuain, Napoli don't need the money - why would they sell unless we offered a ridiculous amount?

Agree2 Disagree0

20 Aug 2016 10:55:49
Plus us fans don't really know what's going on, we just get fed crap by the media, all I ever read was Napoli want to keep him until next summer, if so we have 2 options, give them a massive offer they can't refuse, or pull out and respect that the selling club doesn't want to sell, I hsve to agree will Melbourne, what if Real Madrid offered 50 million for hazard our best player?, how would we act?

I know it's only the second game of the season, but United look really, really good. Think the title is theirs to lose.

I thought it wasn't so much Utd playing well, as Southampton being poor. Gifted them one goal for start.

19 Aug 2016 21:48:28
Hard t disagree with that, pogba looks like a man playing against kids.

19 Aug 2016 22:00:49
Early days yet boys. They have had an easy start so far judge them when they have played someone decent I say those 2 games they have had were against bottom half teams this season.

Agree2 Disagree3

19 Aug 2016 22:14:15
I find it hard to say man united played well. I thought Southampton were just slower and looked absolute rubbish. Bournemouth the same. I don't see many other players at United other than Ibra who will score goals.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Aug 2016 22:26:17
But still Southampton had more ball possession and more shots at goal! I won't pass judgement until United have played a team of more worth.

20 Aug 2016 06:40:27
Lol, it may be an easy start, but we lost both of those games last year.

So a team that finished 6th is now bottom half team bcz we beat them.

We have all had our favourite Chelsea players over the years with some of the obvious ones being Zola, Drogba, Lampard, Essien etc I'm just curious to see who everyone's unsung hero is?

For me growing up my favourite player when I was in my teens was alway Dan Petrescu, one of the best right backs the club has ever had. The guy was a machine, great in the tackle and an absolute beast going forward. He had an amazing cross on him and scored a fair amount of goals for us as well, some of them absolute beauty's. He never really got the credit he truly deserved in my eyes but for me he will always be a legend!

Anyway it's Dan for me, very interested to see if any of you guys have any players to add.

Poyet was a great player for us. There's a few unsung players gudjohnsen, di matteo and cudicini.

Agree2 Disagree0

19 Aug 2016 18:52:35
Agree with every single one of them Gudjohnsen especially! I remember towards the end of Jose's first reign as manager he was moved from striker to a number 9 role and played so well that he was signed for Barca! Great player, scored some fantastic goals for us.

19 Aug 2016 18:54:30
Not necessarily an unsung hero whilst playing for the club but Florentine Malouda never really gets a mention when we talk about Chelsea's best players. He's definitely one of my favourites, was unreal in our prem win under Carlo!

Agree2 Disagree2

19 Aug 2016 19:06:23
Malouda definitely had his purple patches for us and as you said he was amazing that season and scored a hell of a lot of goals. I was always sad about the way his Chelsea career fizzled out, he ended up getting dropped from the first team squad and sent to play with the reserves over a transfer refusal or something like that if I remember correctly?

Le saux just like petrescu hasselbaink was mine only if we had him now.

19 Aug 2016 19:37:14
Petrescu is a great shout, and I'm not just saying that because I'm Romanian. Anelka would be my second.

Jimmy floyd hasslebaink is mine. Always felt he was going to score! Loved him! Gus poyet aswell was great!

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2016 19:52:27
Jimmy was quality, he had a rocket of a shot and scored some worldies!
Poyet was one of the best headers of a ball we have had and I remember being at the game at the bridge when he scored that volley against Sunderland that won goal of the season. Zola scooped it over the defence and Guss Aspillia volleyed it top bins! Amazing goal.

Some great players there! JFH was unbelievable, he'd be worth a fortune now! Loved Carlo Cudicini, Dan Petrescu and Di Matteo. I wouldn't agree with Malouda, didn't rate him personally, if you're talking wingers who were unsung heroes then Damien Duff needs a mention. Without Jesper Gronkjaer's goal against Liverpool we never would have gotten Roman Abramovich to buy us so he's an important player.
Over the years I used to love Tore Andre Flo, Bjarne Goldbaek for his screamers, Poyet for his flare and Dennis Wise for his tenacity!
Special mentions to the flops too! Winston Bogarde, Gabriel Ambrosetti and Chris Sutton coming to mind haha.
One player I was always gutted for was Pierluigi Casiraghi who started off great but tore his ACL and left afterwards!
It's nice to look back and think of the swashbuckling style we used to have! I'll never forget that night in Tromso on route to the European Cup Winners Cup final when Vialli scored with his arse in the snow! Good times!

19 Aug 2016 20:11:28
Some great memories there Chelsea Nick, we certainly have had some top players over the years. Vialli in Tromso is definitely one I will never forget haha.

Ps Gavin Peacock gets a special mention from me, my first real Chelsea hero. Might be giving my age away here lol.

{Ed001's Note - is 08 the year you were born? 1908 I mean.....}

19 Aug 2016 20:27:54
No ed001 the 08 is for no8 for Lampard.

{Ed001's Note - it's ok mate, you have given it away now, no point trying to cover it up.....}

19 Aug 2016 20:37:07
SuperFrank08 how could we forget Michael Duberry for his amazing ability to score spectacular own goals haha. Used to love Frank Sinclair's passion for the team too, he loved the club, but he was prone to the odd worldie of an own goal!

19 Aug 2016 20:51:56
Worst player award goes to slavisa jokanovic. Better manager than player haha! Can't forget to give mark Hughes a mention. That special night against Vicenza lives long in my memory.

Leon knight was going to be massive. How wrong we were! High expectations for Sam dalla bonna aswell but that never panned out!

19 Aug 2016 20:57:23
Haha always had a soft spot Duberry, he certainly made up for what he lacked in quality with enthusiasm. Always remember him for his goal against United 😃
Pretty sure Sinclair is still at the club in some capacity?

Always going to love my childhood heros. Earland Johnson. Steve Clarke. Jacob kjeldbjerg. Phelan tearing down the pitch and of course Scot Minto.
Miss the passion of the crowd in those days.
Random memory of Frank Sinclair. We used to sit behind the goal in the shed end. We were defending a corner and yelled "sort em out frankie" at lebeouf to get us organised. Frank sinclair started pointing fingers and yelling at positions. Now that could of been a coincidence but still a funny moment in my life as a Chelsea boy.

Given what appears an outrageous amount being asked for Lukaku, what would people's reaction have been if we had bought either Benteke or Bony?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed018's Note - I'm not a big fan of either of them but having to pick I'd say Bony as a third choice striker would be fine.}

19 Aug 2016 11:24:11
Neither, Bony at a stretch but his wages are obscene.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Aug 2016 11:29:57
I think the only way Lukaku comes in is if Costa leaves or he gets guarantees they'll be 2 up front. I personally hope we fail to sign him, £75mil you must be having a joke Everton, he will never be worth that. Granted he gets goals but he doesn't scream world class to me. I'd have paid the money for Higuain or Aguero or Suarez or better yet Griezzman. Let him stay there.

Agree2 Disagree0

19 Aug 2016 15:15:12
Certainly not Benteke, well overpriced and one dimensional imo. And I'm not sure we should be helping Citeh offload their rejects for someone who isn't going to improve us massively. As ed018 said, Bony as 3rd choice isn't too bad but freeing up a space in Citeh's squad and wage bill isn't worth it imo.

Agree2 Disagree0

19 Aug 2016 15:51:15
Put that money for griezman,

Agree2 Disagree0

19 Aug 2016 16:42:04
I think it is way to much money for lukaku, I wouldn't want bony or benteke. There must be a decent striker out there that we could get for 30-40 million mark.
Starting to think this could be it. I can't believe once again we can't get all our business done early, so we are scrapping about to see what's left.
Imo we should never deal with Everton again, buying or selling they have appeared to enjoyed messing us about, again.

19 Aug 2016 17:48:04
It's not the end of the transfer window yet guys. Some deals take longer to structure than others for a multitude of reasons. Look at Barbosa for example, there's still a reasonable chance we will sign him, that has been delayed due to the olympics.

Other delays are down to difficult to deal with clubs, financial negotiations etc.

Let's keep faith until the window is shut at least!
