ED002 several reports say RDM is under pressure already and that the coming week if bad he could face the sack surely not!? do you know if everyone at the club is happy with him? {Ed002's Note - I am not interested in discussing such matters, sorry.}

jeremie boga, he's 15/16 years old and he's regurlay playing and performing consistanly for the u18's he's played on the odd occasion for the u21's this season aswell, watch out for him he's a future star!

Peds

Believable4 Unbelievable0

I'm 15 too and you're right. I've played against him a couple of times, he is unbelievable!

Agree0 Disagree1

I believe he scored twice for the U21s in their recent 3-3 draw with Liverpool, in which he inspired the team from 3 goals down to get a draw! Yeah this kid looks the real deal. Got some great centre mid prospects: KDB, Josh, Chalobah, Loftus-Cheek, Romeu, Boga all under 21 years of age, all potential first team players.

A few things I'd like to throw up there.

1) We need a new striker.
A top striker is needed but the transfer window doesn't open for a while so fingers crossed for Torres and Sturridge, but Falcao is who we need!

2) Rotation is NEEDED!
Rotation is needed because Mata, Hazard, Oscar etc can't play every match (fact) and throwing them in to try save the match doesn't help because they don't get the rest they need. Next year when KDB, Josh, Lukaku come back and Piazon gets more first team opportunities that shouldn't be a problem.

3) If Oscar, Mata and Hazard aren't all playing we need a different formation and style of play 4-2-3-1 without MaZacar doesn't work too well, 4-3-3 would be better when one, two or all of them aren't playing. E.g if oscar isn't playing Mata and Hazard would play as wings.

4) I think we should change formation until January just to stabilise things.

E.g 4-3-3
----------------CECH
Dave ----- Iva---- Cahill---- Cole

----Rami ----- Mikel ----- Oscar

----Mata ----- Torres ---- Hazard.

Obviously personal will change for rotation purposes.

5) I hope we get to see Marin soon, I'm sure they're just trying to make sure he is 160% fit before he gets a run of games because of his injury record.

Believable5 Unbelievable2

I'd rather play Sturidge instead of Torres, lets face it, he is just standing in the field not playing with the team at all. How can a striker not have taken a run or being a threa or freaking even take a shot on the goal in a match he was playing for 70min?!?!

Agree1 Disagree1

The problem we have is when in attack we have 6 players when now we have 5 and still get caught out, if a new system is to work we need a player to sit in front of the back 4 and protect, which MIkel could do okay if he realises he isn't going to score so just stay back and tackle and pass, but ideally we need a quarter back type player to distribute passes and dictate tempo

Last season despite the two cups made it clear that the squad needed a complete overhaul.
Whilst we all want continued success the advent of FFP made it clear that we had to look to buying a mix of players with potential and proven ability.
I think we all can see that Torres isnt going to return to form nor will Sturridge ever be the player that he thinks he is! So either in the soon to be open window or the next we should be looking to see two forwards exit and two come in ( we need four in our squad so expect one of the youngsters to break through and Lukaka to return)
In midfield its clear that we need two deep lying and or holding midfielders possibly with Lampard, Moulda, Essien and Marin all being given transfers out either i the next or folllowing window. DeBryne to return for next season
At the back I think the changes are nearly complete however I would expect to see Cole and Ferria and possibly JT to go and an experienced dominant CH, a new left and new right backs to come in.
I dont see any real changes with the keeper next season but the one after I would expect us to cash in on Petr Chec and to see one of the back up keepers to leave.
So in my view the team is in transission and although some will argue that we cant afford to let JT, AC and FL go they are all comimg toward the end ot their careers but if you look objectively at the players (with the exception of FL) they are high maintenace and attract bad press which continues to damage the Chelsea brand.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Marin is going no where m8 they are waiting for him to get 110% fit, and Di Matteo isent known for his many ataacking substitution's. Should loan Lukaku out one more year more i think.
I dont think Terry and Cech is leaving just yet, i think they wil most likely leave after next season and maybe Cech got 2 more.
Would like to see these players coming in in the near future.

Calling back from loan -
kevin de bruyne (next season)
Thibaut Courtois (next season)
Nathaniel Chalobah (2015-2016)

Buys -
LB - Lucas Digne (next season)
CB - Papadopoulos/Hummels(2014-2015)
RB - Wallace (expect he gets here soon)
DM - Paulinho (next season)
DM - Fernando/Busquets (next season)
FW - Ricky van Wolfswinkel(when possible)
FW - Falcao/Neymar ( when possible)

Out/sells -
Torres - sold (when possible)
Sturidge - sold (when possible)
Mikel - sold (next season)
John Terry - retire/sold (2014-2015)
Petr Cec - retire/sold (2014-2015)
A. Cole - sold (jan 2013)
Henrique Hilário - retire/sold (next season)
Paulo Ferreira - sold/retire (next season)
Frank Lampard - sold (when he wants or 2013-2014)
Florent Malouda - sold (when possible)

Agree4 Disagree4

Not a million miles away from my thoughts in the orginal posting.

Whilst I agree that Terry to leave would be a difficult one it is clear that the club have to move on and it seems they have already made the decision not to extend his contract past 2014 so the club either allow his contract to run down and say goodbye or look to at least make a little bit of money with a view to buying someone in.
In terms of your wish list some interesting players although I wonder if at CB the club need someone who is already in the EPL and already the captain of their club

ED001 what do you make of David Luiz? He is a very gifted footballer but for me he is not a centre back he would be good playing in the 2 behind the 3 in my view he can pass he is comfortable on the ball what do do you think?

BLUEBLOOD {Ed001's Note - technically, he is superb, he is comfortable on the ball, can pick a pass, shoot, tackle, has pace, height and strength. The problem is his mentality, for me, he loses concentration, leading to simple errors. I don't mind his charges forward, I think that is a good thing and it is up to his team mates to fill in when he does get forward. Those lapses in concentration are a killer, though, which is why I would personally play him either out wide as a full back or in midfield. He has too much quality to be sat at the back, while Ivanovic and Mikel are in the team, for me anyway. He is a better footballer than either, in my opinion, so put him where he can actually play.}

Spot on Ed001, that's exactly what I had always wanted RDM to do. Luiz is a good footballer but certainly not a centre half, but I think most times he bumbs forward because the ball doesn't move forward quickly from the pivot, so he takes the risk with the ball forward and nobody covers for him.
Bas!cs.

Agree1 Disagree0

Well the team is still a long way from gelling perfectly and be a unit instead of how we are playing now.
Even RDM dont even know how he should play the team, IE, Formation, Defense as in pushing the line up i think would be a huge relief for the team but RDM prefer to let them fall back. And i dont think the Pivot is playing optimal either, dont know if its down to Ramires or Mikel but i do have a feeling its Mikel, and they certainly fail horrible at passing the ball forwards both of them.

Mikel, the defensive mid

he can tackle and win the ball when the opposition player is running at him
he can hold the ball and protect it

he cannot mark a player properly
he cannot chase a player who is ahead of him
he tends to power down as if he needs recharging in the middle of the pitch.
he plays far too ahead and leaves a lot of space between him and the back four

he is slower than a pizza delivery with no time limit

You're all slating Torres for not taking his chances, go throught the highlights, I guarantee at no point did he get a chance. He came off as 2 of our best attacking/creative players came on, we didn't make a clear cut chance till Mata and Oscar came on. And I'd put money on it that Torres would've put one of the chances Sturridge got away. Do not slate a player because he didn't put the ball in the back of the net, when he didn't have a chance to.

RB11

Believable4 Unbelievable4

Its the fact he never gets into them positions that's frustrating. Its not coincidence that Sturridge played his first game and had 3 good chances to score. That's not down to luck, we've been creating them chances all season, Torres just doesn't get in the right position to take them. And when he does, more often than not he cuts back, dwells on the ball, passes, or misses. At least sturridge shot every time, with more games he'll score a few I think.

OsgoodIsKing

Agree5 Disagree1

He didn't get in positions! At least Sturridge gets in the right areas to get chances. Torres always drifts out of the box too much, and out onto the wing. If he just stayed in the box he would get plenty of chances! It's not a question of service, with the players he has around him, it's Torres' poor positioning, decision making and finishing. But at least he works hard, right?
Tim

Agree4 Disagree1

Its worse thsat he doesnt get a chance. sturridge got plenty.

Agree0 Disagree1

The problem is that Torres just stand still next to a defender, and expect when he get the ball the defender move away from him. He dosent even bother to make runs or drag the defenders around to create chances for others, he just stand still and look in the ground like he dosent even wanna be on the field.
Against west brom i saw someone made a perfect pass for Torres to run behind the defenders, you know what he did? he didnt move a inch he just looked at the ball!! You cannot just not play with the team and still expect everything from them.

Agree2 Disagree0

All of you need to re-read that post. Torres does get into the positions, so does Sturridge, but the only two players that played through balls were Mata and Oscar, plus Sturridge missed every singke chance he got. The miss from Oscar's unbelievable touch was dreadful, Torres would have scored that!!

Agree1 Disagree1

18 Nov 2012 14:52:28
Sturridge yesterday was brilliant IMO. He ran at the defense, had a few decent shots which is more than you can say about a certain £50mil blonde spaniard. A lot of you are slagging off DS23 but tbh he is playing way better than Torres atm. At least he isn't scared to shoot. Yeah he may be ball greedy, he does too much at times and he doesn't work very hard but at least he isn't afraid to have a crack once in a while. Have a go at me if you want but deep down all of you know Nando ain't gonna get his form back ever again for CFC. Falcao is a must buy in January and a decent £10mil striker for backup if Sturridge leaves. Someone like Huntelaar or Llorente. If Torres is gonna cost us games, hes gotta go.
RT

Believable4 Unbelievable3

Sturridge is selfish couldn't finish a one on one he thinks he's the British version of Ronaldo who wants everything but if he cant put the ball In the net he deserves nothing.

Agree3 Disagree1

Yes, yseterday he looked lively when on and got into good positions including running in behind the defenders -- something that FT hasn't done nearly often enough. But DS couldn't take any of his chances, and he had several very good ones (and he still offers less in buld up play than FT, but FT posing far too little threat in the box on too many occasions). It would be interesting to know his chance/conversion rate, but at a guess it is still well short of that of top striker. Perhaps DS in time will get ratio better. VBS

Haha did you just say Daniel Sturridge was good yesterday? He was dogs**t!! Some people are unbelievable!

I'm a little baffled at all this hatred towards Mikel, in my opinion he's the most improved player in the league. Yes, he may not give much in terms of attacking quality, but neither did Makelele. He's there to dish out passes to the wing men and break up attacks, which more often or not he does?

JD

Believable3 Unbelievable6

He break our attack up aswell if you didnt notice. He is so extreamly slow on the ball so if he gets the ball in a counter attack, all their defenders is back before he found someone to pass too.
He was a very good player for last years playing style, but this new one he is awful at. He got no pace in pass's which is a minimum requirement even in an ordinary attack, he cant pass the ball forward if not Oscar track back and get the ball which he shouldnt.
Apart from we dont have a forward this is the 2nd biggest issue in our attack.

Agree2 Disagree3

Yes Mikel does pass well, its the fact his transition is so slow, you never see him bust a gut to get back and he is worse that terrible at tackling.
Tom

Agree6 Disagree0

Agree with Tom he's a good tackler but walks back to help Torres does more defending than Mikel I.e why we need someone like Vidal, M'Vila or Wanyama I rate Romeu but he's not a first team regular by a long way

im the biggest cfc fan ever but if i hear 1 more tw"t mention the pivot role i will curse the club never to win another trophy, if i had mentioned this postion 5 years ago you would of thought it was a pret a manger offering.
IT IS DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDER or centre midfield.
Is a right winger now called the run down the wing and cross role.
or maybe a striker ,shoot and run to the crowd role {except torres}lol.
i do like the fact cech is in the dive and slap the ball role now though.
SHUT UP PLEASE IT BUGS ME.
remember the curse now.
Gareth1973 the big rdm rant underneath was me sorry for no name

Believable5 Unbelievable3

Gareth1973 - THAT bugs you? I come from the glory days when EVERY team had a goalkeeper, right and left back, right, centre and left half. Right winger, inside right, centre forward, inside left and left winger!
NO substitutes and 45 minutes (only) in each half....now just imagine what bugs ME

Puzzled

Agree2 Disagree0

I do think we are a bit weak in the pivot role though. We should play Ramires in the pivot role no matter what as he covers every bit of grass and can break from deep with pace, he also gets stuck in. Then alongside him in the pivot role we should bring in Paulinho, as they play the pivot role for Brazil extremely well and have a great understanding. Other pivot role players we should look at are M'Villa and Vidal. I think De Bruyne could be the answer next season along with Ramires in the pivot role, as they have different qualities but are both very athletic.

To summarise, in the pivot role, I think we need 2 players who have different qualities, but are still both athletic. This is important in the pivot role, as they will be tracking runners, breaking from deep, covering the back four and closing down the opposition constantly. The pivot role is a very important position, possibly the most important position?

Sorry for the longish post about the pivot role, but I do think the pivot role is very important and needs discussing as often as possible. If anybody else has any comments and views about the pivot role then please share. I don't think we should ever under estimate the importance of the pivot role.

ktbffh

Osgood you are a wag

Puzzled

Agree0 Disagree1

Completly agree PivotroleIsKing. Apart from a decent forward this is our biggest issue. cause we need 2 people who can dominate a midfield, score goals both of them and who is able to run like a mofo and help the defenders out. At the moment our pivot is the one being dominated in the bigger matches, which is not acceptable for a club like Chelsea.
One other big issue is that our current pivot players(Mikel/Ramires) cannot play the ball up to the attackers at all, it force Oscar down every freaking attack to get it and back again. This should NOT be happending cause it is not his job it is the 2 ppl in the pivot who should do that, and it slows our attack down significantly and is our 2nd biggest issue in the attack.

Agree1 Disagree0

I agree all this crap about Pivot's is doing m nut in and disguising the fact that we have a poor midfield and have not replaced makelele, Ballack and were fools to let essien go.
The sooner we get back to 1 defensive mid and two in front with 3 up top the better.

Is this the formation you would use? putting in like Ramires/Oscar in CM and buy a decent DM which we miss.

Agree2 Disagree0

Yes sorry that is exactly what I mean, just my opinion but I think it would make us stronger in all departments and would better suit the players we have currently and the younger guys coming through or who are out on loan.
There is no reason why we cant play attractive winning football with this system.
We used to win with Mourinho and Ancelloti used it to win and play good football in his first season.
Then we started to loose key players, sold Ballack, carvalho, Lampard Drogba and Terry started to miss a lot of games due to injury and we have never been the same since.
All be it winning the champions league by heroic defensive performances.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Nov 2012 11:40:30
is it just me or has the whole club lost some sort of direction since john terry was banned.I know John is in decline but can still offer more than luiz ever will. The biggest things i have noticed are.Last year we had cole terry lamps cech and drogs 5 LEADERS IN 1 TEAM.yesterday i saw 1 cech and how much can he influence from the goal.I never see chelsea players or even worse the bench communicate with each other, can someone tell me yesterday when someone told another player what to do or where to go.they all seem to do what they like.If it wasnt for Juan mata i think we would be mid table to be honest.
Is RDM mute once he steps out on to the pitch he doesnt communicate with anyone bench players coaches.
Tactically we only play 4 2 3 1 why i understand it in europe or top teams in prem.NOT against reading swansea wba we should have two strikers on and only 1 dm we had romeu and mikel yesterday what a joke.
I think Rdm was the luckiest man on the planet last year ,after avb i could of done the backs to the wall stuff and got away with it.but if you look at our results in the league last year he took us from 4th to 6th i know we won the holy grail that wasnt brilliant man management that was dogged determination from a teams last chance at winning this comp, terry drogs lamps and bossy cech kalou malouda all knew they wouldnt get another bite at this cherry together.
In my honest opinion rdm is a stop gap to something new.Pep maybe jose who knows i honestly do believe that the club wouldnt of spent the vast and come january mega money on a team headed by RDM sacked by west brom and coached for avb.
his subs are bizarre his persistance with torres is embarrassing, the whole world can see its never coming back i loved nando and saw his 3 against qpr last year and thought hes back, only now i think its over and yesterday i saw in him that he thinks so to {torres].
nearly every goal conceded this year has come from counter attack or led from.WHY DOES HE PERSIST IN FULL BACKS GOING 70 YARDS UP THE PITCH AND CENTREBACKS SPREADING OUT AS FAR AS THEY CAN TO CREATE SPACE LMFAO> then if we lose the ball our back 6 yes 6 is out of position straight away i see this at least ten times a game.and that is why we are counter attacked all the time.
I am no uefa badge holder but you would have to lacking not to see this.
If the back 4 stayed were they were supposed to ie JOSE days we would only need i DM and let the front five do what they want.
we are playing to suit our big money signings not a solid tactical formation.
My team would be
cech
azpill cahill terry cole
ramires
moses hazard
mata oscar
striker
i think this is a better formation
Rant over

Believable3 Unbelievable2

I totally agree with your opinion. We had a winning formula but have decided to change it and have not managed to replace key players who have left or are in decline.
But maybe it's not that simple if the manager is under instructions from above to play a certain way and not in control of transfers then it doesn't matter who is in charge nothing will change?

Well i really doubt he is told to play his players out of position, and pivot/center back with 2 people who cannot work together.

Sturidge deserves exactly the number of minutes Torres has had to prove himself, even Moses, Piazon or Hazard up front can't be any worse. I'll be crying if I see Torres in the team against Juve. I just noticed alot of players in here think a defensive midfielder HAS to tackle to be a good defender. But heres the reality theres alot of different types how to defend.
Most spanish players (Romeu) tend to press the guy having the ball in a way so he makes a mistake and lose the ball this is very normal in La liga but obviously they tackle sometimes aswell.
Here in PL alot of defenders just flies into people, and tackle everytime they can until they get a yellow card and then 10min after getting taken off by the coach.

The spanish way which i prefer is alot more safe and can give more chances when a player feels trapped and maybe do a stupid back pass, this is also used by Barcelona and alot more teams so its very efficient.
