Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce John Terry has signed a new one-year contract.

The decision has been taken following the appointment of Antonio Conte as the club’s new manager last month, and consultation between Terry, Conte, the owner and the board.

Terry said: ‘I am delighted to sign a new contract with the club. Everyone knows I'm Chelsea through and through.

‘I am looking forward to next season under the new manager and hopefully we can make it a successful one.

‘Also, a special mention to the fans for their continued support. You’re the best in the world. ’

The agreement will take Terry into his 22nd year with the Blues, having signed at the age of 14. He has since made 703 first-team appearances, the third-highest in our history, with a club-record 570 of those as captain.

Chairman Bruce Buck said: ‘We are delighted John will spend another year at the club. He has been the leader of the Chelsea squad throughout the most successful period in our history. He recently reached the 700-appearance mark, which is testament to his professionalism and dedication as well as his undoubted talent. ’

Director Marina Granovskaia added: ‘We look forward to another year with John at the club, and believe he will be an important figure in the dressing room and on the pitch as we look to bring success back to the club next season. ’.

Seems like, by his comments, Chalobah won't be returning to Napoli next year. What are people's opinions on him? Would you like to see him kept on for next season? I think he could be a handy squad player with the ability to fit into midfield and defence but could excel in a three man defence - if we ever line up like that. Would love to see him Baker, Aina and RLC all in the squad next season.

Ed have you got any insight into what might happen with him?

I think he's still a great talent, and I think it'd be awesome to see him get a chance in our squad.

He's, in my opinion, a top quality young full back who, without a doubt, has international player potential. Plays left and right sided and has been in England U21 squads already. I think there are some overhyped players in our youth ranks - but don't think he is one of them.

Nathaniel is always a bone of contention for me mentally. While he's struggled over the past two years or so, he was phenomenal at Watford and he's only 1 year older than RLC. As others have said he has a lot of tactical flexibility which really lends itself nicely to a squad role. I just don't know if the club and Nathaniel are patient enough to mold him into a holding midfielder that retains a squad position.

The youth players are not over hyped, they are good in the environment they play in. The supporters sort out favourites and talk them up on youth performances expecting a seamless move into the EPL when history indicates many will never be better than top youth players. As we know, a few hear the stories and suddenly demand a long contract on big money and that will not work at Chelsea. Loans I think should be to the highly competitive Championship not obscure foreign clubs.

The telegraph are reporting that Chelsea have signed a £60M per year kit deal with Nike and that they had to pay £40M to terminate their contract with Adidas.
