New signing Diego Costa will wear the Chelsea number 19 shirt.

Costa, 25, completed his move to Stamford Bridge from Atletico Madrid earlier this week and will take Demba Ba's squad number, following the Senegalese striker's departure to Besiktas.

Who seriously believes Cavani is what we need at Chelsea? Think he's terrible to say the least.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Cavani terrible?!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed008's Note - I know right joke of the day!

Cavani is definitely not terrible. Not sure if he's worth what we'd have to pay for him though. I'd be happy to pay what PSG paid for him last summer but that's unrealistic.

Doesn't make sense to me. If we bring in cavani we might as well package Oscar because we won't be able to play two strikers and Oscar since he can only play in the hole (at the highest level). Aubamayang makes far more sense since unfortunately lukaku would rather make headlines off the field than on it.

It seems Chelsea is done buying this transfer window. It also seems that Chelsea isn't going to sell many players. Probably Mikel will stay and formation will switch to 433. At least JM is very happy with available players.

Arsenal in talks with Southampton over Morgan Schneiderlin, could be good news for Chelsea in bringing in Sami Khedira

Why do we want/need Khedira? I just don't get it, If i'm being entirely honest he is hardly a step up from Ramires. So, please let's just not sign for the sake of it. If it ain't a top player like Pogba, Vidal, Barkley, Schweinsteiger, Kroos (I know, just saying), who would boss the midfield or ability to grow into that sort of player (Barkley). I would rather we kept Ramires and gave some playing time to Loftus-Cheek and Baker.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed008's Note - Chalobah needs game time aswell.

18 Jul 2014 18:50:37
Agree. The only reason pogba makes sense is because he's got the potential to be the best midfielder in the world. Matic, fabregas, rami, and Oscar all provide something different and khedira isn't a major upgrade or provide something that the other four don't.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't want Khedira - give any of Ake, Baker, Chalobah or Loftus- Cheek a chance!

Just seen on the Liverpool page Ed002 mention that there is interest from Chelsea (amongst many other clubs) in Zakaria Bakkali and that we'd look to send him on loan to Vitesse since he's apparently not ready for the prem yet. Just thought that was interesting and I'd share it

Rumours that Chelsea are bringing in Varane & Falcao, Falcao move to Real Madrid apparently fell through, Varane seems likely but can't see Falcao coming to Chelsea

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Rather than Falcao I would honestly rather see Torres kept on to compete with Costa and Bamford given a chance as an understudy to both simply because it is financially more prudent and gives a chance to a promising young striker.

Agree0 Disagree0

Should loan Bamford to a Premier League club and see how he does, Chelsea may use Lukaku as bait to bring someone in, Falcao has turned down Chelsea in the past i'm sure he will again, if Falcao move to Madrid goes back on then Chelsea should consider Benzema

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't want Falcao tbh. If we ended up with him I'd support him but I have my doubts about him. I can't recall but I thought JMou didn't rate Benzema? Personally I'd want to bring in Aubameyang with Torres as back-up unless we can sell him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Falcao is a proven goalscorer in every league he's played in, only way Chelsea will get rid of Torres is a loan or swap with another player

Agree0 Disagree0

He's also still recovering from a major injury, one which could hamper him in the future. Wouldn't want another Torres.

I'm really surprised chelsea aren't interested in Bony as a back up striker. He actually had a very good debut season in my eyes last year. Strong, good at aerial duels, has above average hold up play, a mean shot and can finish. If Lukaku leaves, Bony could be a fantastic back up option to Costa.
I'm not a fan of going for Cavani. So Aubameyang or Bony would be my choices. Cheaper and they could be very useful.
Thoughts on other possible back up striker options?

I would like the backup striker to be someone that can offer something different from Costa. Pace, clever play and runs, also if we start with two up top in a game they would both compliment eachother. So this goes without saying Bony is not the man. Aubemeyang however is a good shout, Falcao would have also been great, he and Costa worked really well at Athletico but seems his off to Real.
There are lots of players out there who are young goal scorers and have the ability but the question is would the club be willing to take a risk on unproven players in the premier league Volland, Firmino, Iturbe? (El sharaawy?)
Aubemeyang looks the most likely but things could change. It is the silly season.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm surprised aswell that Chelsea isn't interested in Bony, rumours of Drogba coming back as coach aswell would suit having Bony at Chelsea, I think Costa/Lukaku/Torres will be the strikers, Chelsea need another centre back if Zouma leaves on loan, plus Khedira would be the final piece of the jigsaw, maybe Chelsea should go for Reus or Benzema if Madrid sign Falcao

Agree0 Disagree0

Would love it if we got Reus but doesn't seem likely. Would swap Reus for Oscar and then switch to a 4-3-3 with Reus, Costa and Hazard up front.

Agree0 Disagree0

Plus if rumours are true Swansea want close to 20 mil, mad money

Hi eds - 1) very interesting that Romeu has signed a 3 year contract extension: will he be part of the squad or loaned? 2) it's being reported that Juve are after Lukaku: would a part swap deal with Pogba interest Juve?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Juventus want Lukaku to partner Morata but doubt there will be a swap involving Pogba

I really think we need players out before any more come in. Well - Chelsea can bring in first but players must then leave, from a financial position (wages) to balance books really.

We had a good season last season - and the only glaring issue was the strikers. From last season we lost Essien in Jan, but Van Ginkle is back from injury to cover there - and we last Mata replaced by Sala.

Of the others this window - Ba has gone Costa come in, a definate improvement. Eto has gone, Lukaku has returned - again a positive for me. Lampard has been replaced by Fabergas and cole by Luis. All of those are at least on par i'd say (given relative ages).

David Luis has left us - and whilst Zuma has come in, and is probably a better CB - he may go out on loan and he "maybe" isn't up to 1st team level yet. Courtois is back improving our GK options.

Add to that the younger players - particularly Ake, Kalas and Cholobah are a year older and could cover this season, I think our depth is good.

OK - some of the youngsters "may" go out on loan again - and if Zouma does then a 1st team CB might be needed, but quite frankly that's the only position we could justify without players leaving (and if we don't get one either Zouma or Kalas can stay at Chelsea for cover this season.

Replacing Mikel would be good - with either Pogba, Vidal or Khadiera, and there is the possibility of either Torres leaving (probably not this window) and/or Lukaku (a shame but I honestly think its on the cards) so another striker may be in order - but again ONLY is one of those player leaves.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Kalas has gone on loan already.

Agree0 Disagree0

Zouma is rumored to be joining Monaco on loan so Chelsea could bring in Varane

Disagree with the sentiment that we need a new centre half if zouma and omereu leave. We still have terry Cahill and bran will be there far more since Luis will shift Dave over to the right. Also Christensen will be playing with the u21s so could also fill in. That said if there's a chance to get varane then you must take it.
