I don't understand why people keep on insisting that Oscar will play in the pivot.

Agree0 Disagree0

Theres no such position, Oscar is a deep playing midfielder best utilised in the centre where he will get chance to express himself. Don't know if you've ever played the sport but its common knowledge that the more space you have the better your chance becomes for picking out an exact pass, the sort of pass that leaves a striker with just the keeper to beat. If let's say Oscar was played wide or in attacking midfield he would be man marked by one or two opposing player making his talent harder to exploit and rendering his game ineffective. If you compare hazard or schurle to Oscar you can clearly see a different skill set, both have better agility and top speed and both hug the touch line with the ability to cut inside at speed not needing to get into shoulder to shoulder situations which would slow the play down greatly. In conclusion and I apologise for the long post but Oscar is a cm he is not that strong yet physically hence previous managers reluctance to use him deeper but I can almost bet on it that he will play in cm and will be given a free role and will be expected to tighten up defensively too, thanks for reading.

Just read that we're set to sign Luiz Gustavo from Bayern for £16 million to replace Mikel as he's set to head to Turkey. Any possible truth in this one Ed's? I know Jose said Rooney was our one and only target but I'd personally prefer De Rossi to Luis Gustavo.

How can most people on this site be saying Rooney is rubbish. He's a great player who works so hard for the team. If he joins I will be happy with this transfer window. People are also saying Rooney is rubbish he wouldn't get into the Chelsea team. Can I ask how Torres has been in the team for the last 3 seasons.

Blue con

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Every player in the world works hard for his team, it does not make a player outstanding. Players are rated based on their specific duties on the pitch;
1. Keeper buy the saves he makes.
2. Defender by the stoppages, accurate tackles, timely and anticipated dispossession.
3. Midfielder by interceptions, positive dribbling, assists, accurate passing rate, active marking, free kicks.
4. Striker by HOW MANY GOALS SCORED plus a little assist made Any strike that scores 20+ goals in a league season is the one that is regarded as the one that works hard.
Ferguson knew before anybody that rooney was not very reliable that was why he insisted RVP.
Lampards penalty and freekick are better than his.
I don't see any reason he should earn 200k or 250k pounds a week; is it because he is British.
He only wants to go becos of complexity. Why can't he stay in man u. and fight for shirt like any other hard working player.
For 200k a week I rather pay ronaldo or messi 600k a week because any of the two will net 4x wwhat rooney can net per season. That is the rubbish they are pointing at. Be wise.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rooney is a great player. You don't look at a striker just for their goals you look at their overall play and how they contribute to the team. If Rooney is given that main striker role he would score 20+ an he also contributes with assists, getting back and helping out the team. I would rather Rooney on 200k then Torres on 190k. If Rooney joins everybody on here would soon change their mind and start saying how good he is.

Blue con

Agree0 Disagree0

Rooney got 12 goals and 11 assists in the PL last season. Not bad as he was out of position and dropped a lot. Not to mention the unhappiness.

Imagine this lads- Rooney up top with Hazard, Mata and De Bruyne behind him, with De Rossi and Oscar in the 'pivot'. Mouthwatering prospect

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Please stop saying pivot, who the hell started saying pivot omg, it has and always be a centre midfield

if we can offload torres and bring in rooney I will be over the f###ing moon. if you look at the past seasons where rooney was the main man (which he would be at chelsea) he banged in 26 and 27 goals in the prem alone. If we can get him and Lukaku rotating games we will be unstoppable this season. I feel like anything below 33mil for rooney is a good price.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Offload Ba keep Torres.

Agree0 Disagree0

Surely rotating him with Lukaku would prevent him from being entirely the 'main man' as you just described and thus, he wouldn't score 20+ goals a year.

Don't no why anyone wouldn't want Wayne Rooney he's not been happy at united for a couple of years so your not going to play your best sorry that's just the way it is no matter how much money your on. When he was on form which he will get back he ripped premiership to bits. I no everyone has there own opinion but don't come this time next year if he signs saying how great he's been because if he comes and hits form he will be the difference. My opinion

Rooney crying about not getting in Man Utds side. He's not good enough for our team either.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He not crying about getting into the side. he started pretty much every game for united, he's crying about not playing as the main striker and playing second fiddle to RVP. He wants to be the main man and chelsea could give him that.

Not surprising that Chelsea have denied the rumours saying we have offered 10 million for Rooney plus either Mata or Luiz. I mean it is nonsensical as A) Both Mata and Luiz are probably valued at a higher price currently than Rooney and certainly not 10 million less, and B) With United clearly searching for a creative midfielder, hence the attempts to sign Thiago and Fabregas, so surely Moyes would jump at the chance to sign Mata with an extra 10 million whilst offloading a player on huge wages who clearly wants to leave.

Personally I don't want Rooney as the 20-30 million plus 200k a week wages we would have to spend to aquire him, is really an amount I think should only be spent on a striker that is likely to return 20 goals+ most seasons but Rooney has only managed this twice in his career. Despite this, if anyone can motivate him it would be JM and the deal still represents better value than Cavani did so it wouldn't be the owrst thing if he did join.

Ed018 I heard that Wallace may need to go out on loan this season because he does not have a work permit. Is this true or will he be able to stay and be part of the squad this season? Azpilicueta and Wallace would be a great pair to have available for right back.

Many thanks, {Ed018's Note - I think you are correct about the work permit but I'm not sure if that has changed}

not a chelsea fan, but I reckon this is what happened.

someone from Chelsea leaked the news to the media.

If the tv reported it, someone reliable was told.

All this does, is make united look crazy for not accepting the bid, then chelsea release statement saying it was only bid and not player.

game on. haha.

lakerville.

lpool fan here be careful what u wish for is an old phrase but u need to be careful if jose seriously is thinking of 10 mill plus matta for shrek that is unreal mata has to be worth 35 mill honestly valuing a past it rooney at 45 mill nearly as bad as carroll at 35 mill, mata has been your best player by a mile think all the goings on at Madrid has left jose a little light headed or is he trying to show this time he doing it his way completely may seem a bit bizzare but this offer is beyond comprehention

Has mourinho lost the plot? Apparent the deal for Rooney worth mata or luiz + 10 mill was confirmed, seriously? What kind of deal is that, I want to say in mourinho I trust, but I'm not sure I can with this news

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jul 2013 13:41:44
No. It's been confirmed only we made a cash-plus-player offer. No mention confirming Mata or Luiz involved and the fail can only say 'thought to be/believed to be' and this was the same paper who claimed we had signed Cavani only ten days ago, plus Ed002 said on Madrid and Arsenal's place we offered Essien in a deal for a striker so I suspect we may have offered him.

Man Utd fan here, a lot of rumours saying Mata plus cash for Rooney. If this is true has Jose gone mad? Mata IS a class act, Rooney WAS. I would love to see Mata at utd but I think Jose has lost it if he thinks that's a good deal.

Man U have reportadly turned down £10 mill plus either Mata or Luiz.

I cannot believe that CFC would want to offload either of those players.
Our player of the year in both of the two years we pick up European trophies, not to mention one of the outstanding players in the prem. And Luiz who in my opinion was one of our best 3 players last season, a potential captain who seems to be improving almost by the month.
I have been very pleased with our work in the transfer window thus far but getting Rooney at the expense of either of those two is not good at all IMO, in fact loosing either would concern me going into the next season, I simply don't think we have players in the squad to replace what those two contribute on the pitch

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What have the daily mail started now! must be a slow news day to churn out that nonsense

Agree0 Disagree0

If chelsea offered mata with no money for Rooney they would bite our hands off. If mata was involved in anyway Man U would of had to offer the money, lazy journalists aren't even trying anymore AM

Agree0 Disagree0

I also don't believe that offered Mata or Luiz. It's just press sensational BS.

The fail reporting that our offer of £10 million and either Mata or Luiz was rejected by United. This is completely false (not a shock seeing as it is in the Daily Fail) and I would like to raise the points why.
1) Both players have openly committed their future to us.
2) Jose has openly told the media those players are not leaving.
3) If its true we value Luiz at £35 million then that's a £45 million offer for Rooney which is much too high.
4) My source understands that if a bid was made it was cash only in the excess of £20-23 million.
5) Mata is priceless and I doubt the club want to give our best asset to United. Mata is the best playmaker in the BPL, in the top five of world playmakers and has been immense since joining. Plus we paid £25 million for him so that means we value a deal for Rooney at £35 million. When it's been up locally said he could go for £30 million at most.
6) Jose has said we don't need to sell our assets to strengthen so why would we trade one of our best players when we could get a cash-only deal.
I was shocked when Cavani didn't go through because like Ed018 my source seemed adamant it was nailed on. When I pressed for details on the Rooney saga he gave me some interesting information which I'll share later in another post.
