I'm sure a lot of Chelsea fans just want Ricardo Rodriguez as left back due to his set piece abilities because I don't rate him as a defender. People don't realise how much of a quality lb we've got in Filipe Luis. He just needs a good run of games to get back to to his best.

Of course but he's too good to not be playing.

Filipe is far too good to be sitting on our bench, for me he is our best fullback due to his ability to go forward and deliver good crosses like all great fullbacks past and present, it's just a little shame about his age, 5 years younger and he would be perfect

Haha, Ricardo Rodriguez? Felipe Luis? I raise you a José Gaya. Younger, better defender good going forward, would definitely be more expensive but would be a long term fix.

Imagine a defensive team of Azpi, Zouma, Varane and Gaya. Not too shabby.

Jay Dasilva is a fantastic left back and will make the breakthrough in the next 3 seasons if he continues to develop and, as importantly, maintain the correct professional attitude. As such, I hope Luis stays alongside Dave and Branna and thus keeps a place available. Zouma and Varanne ( hopefully we sign him ) can also cover at full back as can Ake if he doesn't go out on loan.

I'm with Eli on this one. I want Gaya as well if Luis decides to move on.

17 Apr 2015 14:11:27
I wouldn't be too scared if we lose out on Varane as I believe we have a commanding CB in Branna. He still can play another 4 - 5 years of top quality football, and I believe he can be one of the best candidates to replace Terry when he retires

Gaya is the one for me too. young enough that'll he'll be happy to wait a year or so to become starting LB and great potential.

Can't agree more with lrdlt!
But also believe we should go for Clyne.Chelsea needs more homegrown players. Cresswel should be our target as well.

I love Dave but he just provides absolutely nothing in attack when on the left. The penetration we have on that side when Luis plays vs Dave is two opposite things.

Woo slating Dave is ridiculous he isn't allowed to attack it's as simple as that!

I have seen various rumours and speculation linking us with a possible bid for nathanial clyne. Which six months ago would have appeared a good move, however some of his recent performances have been very average.
I feel a better option and a lot cheaper is Joel Ward from crystal palace. His stats are excellent, he is good going forward and very good defensively. And at 25 is a perfect age. I appreciate he has just signed a contract extension, but for the right money he still looks good

Hahaha no thanks pal without being harsh. I'd prefer Coleman anyway if we're going HG.

Coleman is not homegrown player!

OSCAR: I'M HAPPY AT CHELSEA

Oscar says he has "no plans" to leave Chelsea amid reports he could be sold at the end of the season.

In an interview with Saturday Night Football ahead of this weekend's featured live game against Manchester United, Oscar made it clear he sees his future at Stamford Bridge.

"I'm very happy here, " he said. "I get along with everyone, and the club shows its praise towards me. Chelsea is one of the best clubs in the world, so I don't see why I would think of leaving.

"I'm very happy with Chelsea's season so far and happy with my own performance as well, but I do think I could have contributed more to the team."

So, big game on Saturday against perhaps the most in form team in England right now. They've been playing well (though not really great IMO) while we've been struggling. I'm not that confident about the game to be honest. I think they're actually the favourites to get a result this weekend, and perhaps that could give us a slight advantage along with it being a home game for us.

Fellaini, Mata and Herrera for me are the most dangerous players in the team right now. We need to contain or even outright nullify them. Mata shouldn't be too hard to stop if we don't give him much space and perhaps rough him up a bit if the ref allows for some physical play. Herrera has that knack of arriving late in the box and scoring goals from those runs so someone needs to track him. He also keeps the ball moving and is dangerous in build up play so we can't let him run around freely and link up play all over the pitch. Fellaini is obviously a hard guy to cover. He's so strong and they can just kick it toward him and he'll be able to control the ball and lay it off to on rushing players. Also someone needs to be on him at all times in the box as he's a real threat there. Perhaps a job for Zouma in midfield to cover him (inserting him instead of Ramires who added nothing IMO the last game)?
Zouma's got the strength (also in the air) and speed to deal with Fellaini so he could be an option. Then make sure Matic covers Herrera and Fabregas or Willian keeps Mata in check. Let Oscar press the hell out of Carrick so he can't dictate play and I think we'd be good. Also Ivanovic needs make sure that Young can't cross freely. Wing play has become crucial for them I feel.
I hope Fabregas will have a good game, but I kind of fear he won't as Fellaini will probably man mark him all game as he did earlier this season and like he did just last weekend against Toure. We need to solve that problem.

I really want us to win against United, like really really want us to. United fans are already starting to get cocky again, not to mention the fact that we can't let the title race get close.
Please win this one, Chelsea, it's in the best interest of everyone :)

It still pains me to see Mata in a United shirt.

Me too bruceFC me too man, also Jackson you were talking about their attacking power and how we should deal with it, but I believe we should play as a number 1 and let them worry about handling our players

Agree1 Disagree0

16 Apr 2015 15:03:15
I understand what you're saying, LRDlt, but we just haven't been performing for a while now. Also a draw for us isn't a bad result. That's why we should perhaps look to nullify their threats as well. And lastly, it was also a try to get some conversation flowing on this page. Letting them deal with our players and leaving it at doesn't spark conversation :-P

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Apr 2015 16:29:08
I know what you mean Jackson when you say we are not in form. But their defence is still really really week and I believe the best option for us is to attack and press them in their side of the pitch, the only problem though is fatigue of our player at the moment

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Apr 2015 17:09:40
I don't see united getting anything from us at home, arsenal away is the tricky one

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Apr 2015 17:24:27
Maybe you're right, mate. But I still think we need a plan to counter Fellaini. They really utilise him now and he's such a big target in the box. He'd drag Matic all over the pitch if we put Matic on him, and Fabregas doesn't stand a chance of winning a duel against him. He's their danger man right now.
I'm also praying that Ramires doesn't start against them. He's been so bad the last weeks, so if he plays right wing then I'll damn near cry!
We can't lose this. As you said, they're actually pretty vulnerable in defense and I hope the ref doesn't allow Valencia to manhandle Hazard. Hazard should be able to burn Valencia a lot and Mata doesn't help out a lot. So our left flank could be key.

I can't see United getting any points at the bridge

Agree0 Disagree1

16 Apr 2015 19:47:12
If we win against Manchester United and drew against Arsenal or if we drew with Manchester United and win against Arsenal we won the league. Four points from those two crucial games are winning us premier league.

Man U and Aresenal are only hitting terrific form now as they've had no pressure on them. That's the difference between us and them. We've been favorites from the start, and lead from the start, so a bit of nerves now isn't surprising. Had Man U or arsenal hit the ground running, they would of buckled by now. In fact some pundits fancied arsenal at the start, but they couldn't get their act together. Jose will set us up to try and steal a point from both, then wins against Leicester and Liverpool will seal the deal!!

17 Apr 2015 04:21:43
I agree with the sentiment of not wanting matic on fellaini because we need matic free in the middle of the pitch. I wouldn't mind putting zouma and matic in the pivot to handle that. Plus jose usually plays Fabregas in the number 10 in games where we play cautious. They don't scare me an awful lot as I think Dave should have his way with mata. As long as our midfielders are picking up their midfielders runs and fellaini isn't allowed to boss the game I like our chances.

Ed, you mentioned a little while ago about talks with Koke had begun. Did that mean talks between the two clubs over the price or talks between the player and Chelsea? Any update would be good, thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I never said there were talks "with" Koke.}

16 Apr 2015 12:14:38
Think that answer means that those talks were between the clubs and not the player :)
Still it's good to see that the club are already doing work.

Koke would be fantastic signing but I am not so sure that Chelsea will succeed to sign him.
