Only Chelsea would let Anelka Drogba Kalou Lakaku ( loan) all strikers go and not have 1 already lined up instead now we have 1 striker in Torres and 1 wannabee striker in Sturrigde we are so thin in that department how could we not have a replacement lined up? can we really go into the season with 2 very average striker? yet still we are looking at cavani are we really going to sign him? No we should have learnt our lesson with Pastore Sanchez that italian clubs are very hard to deal with,Why on earth do we not look to buy Llorente who is available for 26-28 Mil? is anyone else very underwhelmed by this transfer window we bought a squad player in Marin a good propect in Hazard another good prospect in oscar only Hazard will be a regular starter the other 2 will start as squad players and hopefully grow into the team we need 4 players RB CM RW STR

BLUEBLOOD {Ed018's Note - I don't think there is anyway possible Chelsea can go into the season with 2 strikers}

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Wannabe striker ?? no sturridge IS a striker

curt

Agree7 Disagree0

Torres average! Have a word with urself!
Blue aero

Agree4 Disagree4

So what else is Torres? is he 1 of the top 10 in the world? does he ever win us games?

BLUEBLOOD

Agree1 Disagree4

Time is ticking weve got 1 and a half strikers and a make shift rb!
Itl be deadline day n well get our pants pulled down and pay loads of money for them, not that i care how much they r just get em in!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Why so negative? there are clearly deals in the pipeline for Azpicuelta and Moses, as well as the possibility of deals for Hulk and Cavani. We have already spent £50+mil this window, you thought people would respect the club for doing so. It is impractical to spend huge amounts each window and our squad doesn't need too many additions, we have a decent first XI backed up by an ok squad and excellent youth prospects. Before we add to our central midfielders we need to move on older players and I would expect for other signings to occur Benayoun, Malouda and Merieles would need to move away, as otherwise our wages would be too high and players would get too little game time. Have faith in the Board they know what they are doing are lot more than the average fan, its why they are paid excessive amounts to do their job.

Agree1 Disagree0

Blueblood - Look at his goal in the semi's against Barca, I think That goal helped, not to mention he won the corner that scored the goal in the Final, Some people, have you even watched a Chelsea game last season?

I dont care how much we pay for players, its romans money, we pay enough at the turnsyles and for the pies and moychandoyse

Agree0 Disagree0

Blueblood it was common knowledge a few seasons ago david villa and torres were the 2 best strikers in the world

if both are on form it would still be that way

curt

Agree1 Disagree0

Really curt, the best in the world? The big Drog outclassed both in my opinion

Just thought, with rvp on his way to MU. Chicarito is more or less out of the picture at Man Utd. I reckon he is the perfect signing to cover Torres. He's fast, brilliant positioning, great finisher, young and doesn't have a big ego. He's used to not being the number one choice. I don't think he would cost that much either. As I said just a thought.

Believable4 Unbelievable3

If united would sell him, I'd snap their hand off

Trueblue012

Agree6 Disagree3

I'd much rather Defoe

Agree0 Disagree3

Completely agree boys. Pretty much everything yould ask for from a player in his role. Works his a** off, has pace enough to change the game, has a great attitude, and is always in great positions to score.

Yes but people having "little pea" on the back of their chelsea shirts will look stupid like the man u fans did

Hey ed, with man utd having brought RVP now and having Rooney and welback, man city having aguero, tevez, bolitelli and zecko, and we have Torres an sturridge in attack, do you think we will be pushing harder for cavani or hulk now? {Ed002's Note - It makes no difference.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

15 Aug 2012 22:41:45
Maybe I'm getting caught up in match of the day fever but Defoe would be decent cover for Torres and cheap. Which would then mean we could sign Defoe and hulk maybe. Just a thought.

Believable2 Unbelievable7

He's a good player but Tottenham are in the same position as us right now given they havent signed Adebayor (as of yet). We have 2 strikers so far and need to buy another one, whereas Tottenham have Defoe and Saha(who could leave) and therefore also have 2 strikers and probably are looking to bringing in a 3rd. Doubt they will sell and risk themselves having only 1 or 2 strikers this season.

Tbh even though they would be much dearer i would prefer us to bring in Cavani or Hulk.

Think the divide between the top four will greater then ever this year, with us, man u and arsenal all investing alot. Think Liverpool will overtake sphurs but finish 5th
Dan73

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think spurs and arsenal will be close with rvp leaving but I expect Newcastle to regress.

Tk

Take away van persies goals last year arsenal would of ended up like 13th

Its been proven over the years that when a team loses their best player the do better, look at everton, lost rooney and had best season, the rule doesnt apply for arsenal though, they lost fabregas and slid down, haha

your going to slaughter me for this but why spend 35 mill on cavani when theres defoe the most underrated striker in football (no its not MOTD fever)

curt

Believable2 Unbelievable9

Yeah Curt its not "MOTD fever", just a regular fever I think.

ELI

Agree5 Disagree0

You've just seen him score a goal after coming on from the bench, and then you come on here saying we should buy him and you say this is not motd fever. How is it you manage to make yourself look more of a mug everyday. There is a reason he doesn't play regularly at spurs, the guy cannot hold up the ball and his decision making is poor, unless he takes a shot at goal

Apparently Chelsea have submitted a take it or leave it €40m offer for Hulk this evening (€32m initial fee plus €8m performance related bonuses) is there even an ounce of truth in this? I really think Hulk is a player we need. Many Thanks.

Let's put you on the spot. If you had to guess right now, do you see Chelsea signing Hulk or Cavani before deadline. If not who do you see it possibly being to fill striker void?
Won't hold you to it just was curious on your thoughts.

thanks {Ed002's Note - I have no interest in such games.}

Ed, what's the problem with spending over the odds who's capable of changing a game within the blink of an eye (Hulk) ?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hulk is a 30mil pound player and thats that hes not that good proven him self only in a 2team poor league

Agree0 Disagree0

Although he may be in a less prestigious league, he has proven himself in international games. The highest Chelsea should go is 35 mil, and thats a huge gamble.

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest I would love to be at the bridge and hulk bang one in from 30 yards top corner 100 mph

Agree0 Disagree0

Really hope Chelsea can agree a fee with Porto for hulk his strong and can play out wide which will keep Torres as our main man and his confidence will continue to grow and 20+ goals this season also great
cover too if Torres gets injered.

The stage that the two major rumours: Hulk and Cavani; are at are different and similar in some ways.

If we were to sign these two our squad would be overcrowded and we would have many great players on high wages just sitting on the bench like at Manchester City which is a waste in so many ways. So its either one or the other, and to be honest I don't mind which one we get if any. They both have significant strengths and some weaknesses but both are worthy candidates to becoming a 'replacement' for Drogba.

The problem which is stalling both of these deals as ever is money. Despite having Abramvomich on board it is still a great concern.

Here is my overview of the stages we are at with these two players.

-Cavani- An out and out striker of whom has performed immensly for current club Napoli. Napoli in the early stages of the transfer period were not willing to let him go at any price, within reason, due to the departure of Lavezzi to PSG. However, recentley this site was bustling with excitement of the news that Napoli were willing to let him go at the price we had wanted which was £35million and below. We had then agreed a price of £35million with Napoli. There have been great rumours about Meireles going in a cash-plus-player deal but I am skeptical about this being a 'media make up', none-the-less that is still a possibility. The stalling point is the club-to-player negotiations with Cavani wanting wages of £150,000 a week. This may have been accepted earlier in the transfer period but with other transfers coming in on high wages the squad would be ever so expensive to maintain. Naturally Chelsea would like it to come down and make a compromise.

-Hulk- This deal has gone on for weeks and weeks and we haven't made much progress at all. Hulk had repeatedly expressed his interest in making a move to either Spain or Italy. Porto though are reluctant to sell him for under about £40million which Chelsea think is way to much. I do think though that once we agree a deal with porto then talks with the player will be a breeze due to his interest in leaving. I think we would have to make a compromise deal with Hulk of which being that we will meet the £38million but lower his wages significantly. In terms of where he will play in the team I think he would be the better option out of him and Cavani as he could play on the right-wing. This would mean Torres would be the main striker but if he doesn't do well then arguably he could drop back to right wing as well and do a swap with Hulk. This would have the massive advantage of having these two big big players on at the same time. Whereas if we went with Cavani either him or Torres would be on the bench at any given time due to the inability to have two strikers due to the loss of defensive effect. This I feel, is a waste of talent and as I have said I don't want us create the situation City have which is having unbelievably good talent just sitting on the bench.

Out of the two I would have Hulk, despite him being more expensive by £5million or so he would fit better into the team.

-----------------------Cech--------------------------Ivanovic-------Terry--------Luiz--------Cole------------------Ramires----------Lampard------------------Hulk------------Oscar-----------Hazard----------------------------Torres-----------------------
(With Hulk and Torres swapping now and again depending on goal-scoring etc, form).

I am not too fussy, they are world-class players and both would be heavily welcomed by me and I am sure all of you lot.

Please leave your opinions on the matter, especially your thoughts on the line-up I have given with hulk in it and the idea of him and Torres swapping.

Thank god that RVP has finally agreed a move to United. The constant questions as to whether Chelsea were interested were annoying to say the least. I am quite surprised that RVP moved to United. I don't see how Hernandez and Welbeck will be too happy warming the bench constantly.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

I think welbeck will just lay back and think about his new 75k p/w deal, Hernandez on the other hand, can't see him being happy

A few Hulk rumours resurfacing again, hopefully Porto will start to comprimise a bit. Maybe they were hoping PSG would of come and met there asking price, that is not likely now so striking a deal with Chelsea might be there only option.
He is the type of player we are badly missing so i hope the club can pull this off

Believable3 Unbelievable2

A player that disappears in big games and doesn't do a lot but fall over at the slightest touch and to top it all off will cost at least 40 million, seems like exactly what we need. Come on man, cavani is the right man

Just a question to whoever, but why don't elite clubs (chelsea, utd, arsenal, ect..) have partnerships with certain clubs in lower divisions where they can send most of thier youth players to? This would give the lower division clubs quality youth players, while the elite clubs get thier players playing regularly/playing with each other and building partnerships.

Looks like we are going to kick-off the season with just two strikers, one of whom, Sturridge, is injured. We have 'lost' four strikers this year, Annelka, Drogba, Kalou and now Lukaku, and with only a few days to go until our first game, they have still not been replaced. We have signed great creativity in midfield to provide the ammo for the strikers but with a long season ahead and extra trophies up for grabs, it seems we have been a little sluggish in addressing the goalscoring options. Ironically, I thought the Hazard deal would drag on until the window closed, such was the interest in him, but we did great business in getting that deal done early. Seems other targets (Oscar excepted) have proved elusive in terms of getting them in early enough to be integrated into the squad before the season starts. Torres...no pressure son!

Who people prefer to see sign, hulk or Cavani? For me I would like to see hulk sign. Think it would help Nando with his confidence and secondly both hulk and sturidge can be used as back up strikers. Would also like to see victor mosses sign. Then we will have a stupidly strong attacking options. I'm sure who ever we do sign this transfer window will bring something to the party, my only concern is the two CM because if Lamps and Rami pick up knocks we may be left short for world class talent in there. But then again we don't want to be like city and have a bench worth £100m plus. Hopefully we can get rid of a few and bring in one top class replacement. Role on the 12-13 season, it's going to be epic.

Hulk does seem to change a game even when hes not playing well, he makes room for his teammates by forcing multiple players to mark him to stop him letting of a rocket of a shot. His crossing is superb too (aslong as its on his left foot).

Hulk does seem to change a game even when hes not playing well, he makes room for his teammates by forcing multiple players to mark him to stop him letting of a rocket of a shot. His crossing is superb too (aslong as its on his left foot).

Hulk because he can be a starter on the wing, as cavani is less versatile and alot less effective anywhere but upfront. BLUEBOY1

I'd go with hulk as he can play as striker or wide player and is quick powerful skillful long shots, and as brazilian wil fit in with Oscar luiz Ramires piazon etc

Thing is Hulks a better Rw, Cavani is a better St

Hey Ed,
Will Bertrand be given more playing time than he was given last year? And at what position seeing that in the Champions League final he played as a midfielder and in the Community Shield too.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

He was signed by chelsea as a winger from gillingham i think. we converted him to a left back. BLUEBOY1

Hulk and cavani together is that possible?? Seems a dream but would make us really strong up front, I still feel defensively we short in midfield

Believable2 Unbelievable2

Why the hell would we want to sign both of the get real
