Hi eds would you say the chances of striking a deal for Douglas costa are all but gone

Thought I would try to start the old classic with people's in and outs.

I would be looking to move on any of: Luis, cuadrado, Willian, Oscar, mikel, Ramires, drogba.

I would move for: pogba, bale or griezmann, Isco, lacazette and varane.

What are other people's thoughts?

Willian?! He was one of our best players towards the end of the season

My ins would be:

Varane (CB) - I don't think it will happen but you never know. If we can't get him I wouldn't panic buy so if just be happy to see Zouma start more. Also if we did sign him we'd have 4 CB's and then we'd have a quality player who wouldn't get on the bench.

Rahman (LB) - Been fantastic for Augsburg this year and he's also a physical full back. He would settle with being young to just play cup matches. Waste of time going for a world class left back in Rodriguez or Coentrao because Jose won't play them.

Griezmann (W/ST) - our RW is crying out for someone who can get us goals and Griezmann is the man for me. LW is his specialist position but he reminds me a lot of Robben where he could cut in and score. He's a quality finisher. Then maybe Willian as no.10. Can also cover upfront.

Green (GK) - Experienced premier league goalkeeper and at 2 million I think is a bargain.

I wouldn't sign a CM I value Ramires highly he does the ugly job and does it well. I also want to see Chalobah back to replace Mikel. Give Loftus-Cheek a lot more game time. If the rumours are true about Schweinsteiger leaving for cheap I'd snap him up straightaway as a quality stop gap. Solanke can replace Drogba and we could also have Griezmann too cover so that's not a problem for me.

Outs - Cech, Luis, Mikel, Marin, McEachran, Moses, Kakuta, Salah, Oscar, Drogba

Agreed Welsh maybe I might test athleticos resolve with a bid for Koke, and see what happens. I'm certain we would get Griezmann, and Luis would most definitely leave every other thing I think is still way to early to call season isn't even over yet.

Ps. Spearce you really need to lay of the fifa mate, we aren't Madrid we don't just sell our hard-working and settled players to go for the names that shine brightest, what we need now is to continue building a balanced team. As I said Welsh team is more feasible and something I wouldn't mind.

Ins: Koke, Varane, Griezmann, Green
Outs: Cech, Mikel, Drogba, Luis, plus various on-loan player eg Moses, Marin etc.

Youth team promoted/brought back from loan: Ake, RLC, Bertrand Traore.

With these additions the team would have the versatility to play Cesc beside Matic, or behind the striker with Koke able to play CM; with Griezmann able to play up front or wide he would offer cover for Costa while putting pressure on Willian. RLC would be a direct replacement for Mikel and Ake can offer cover at LB, and CM when needed. The only significant risk would be the lack of senior cover at the fullback position, however with Ake able to cover left, Zouma able to play right, and with his pace Varane could possibly cover as well it should be fine (my only reason for not suggesting a LB signing is simply how little playing time Luis has been given, I don't want the team to sign a left back every year just to sell them again, would rather use Ake tbh). Traore can play out wide or as a striker, but ideally would take Drogba's place as 3rd choice striker/impact sub.

Griezmann to replace Salah, Pogba to replace Mikel, Martinez to replace Remy and Coleman (RB) to replace Luis (LB), with Dave staying first choice LB and Ake to cover. Hopefully Cech stays.

Perhaps Traore would be better suited playing another season on loan if the club get Griezmann. He's possibly be 5th choice for attacking midfield then and wouldn't get enough minutes. If the partnership with Marseille is realised then maybe that would be a good loan destination for him. He's got the quality to play in their team and it'd be a step up in competition from Vitesse.
Then if Cuadrado doesn't work out next year, maybe the club can bring Traore back in Cuadrado's place. He'd still only be 21 (?) by then.

Ins - GK, not really bothered who it is. HG and experienced would be ideal ( could fulfil a HG spot and help courtois with experience.
CB, IMO we don't need varane this year coming. somebody cahills age with a a HG status or a top club experience would be good as cover.
CM, gomes or koke. both have good work rates and are creative enough when either Oscar or fab are also involved.
LW, griezmann for me. bale is too much money and I think griezmann is a lot more clinical.
ST, if we keep remy then another experienced striker in drogbas place would be okay, or a English target man. Austin?

outs - marin, moses, kakuta, piazon, mikel, mceachran, drogba, cech.

possible outs who I wouldn't want - luis and Oscar. replacements - ake and either koke or gomes(whichever we don't get first;))

Out - Cech, Fillipe Luis, Mikel, Oscar, Drogba

In - Green/Ruddy, Cresswell, Varane, Pogba/Koke, Griezmann

I would keep drogba but only as a 3rd or even 4th striker, his attitude and commitment I can only imagine sends great vibes around the whole dressing room. Ramires, I would be happy to see leave as I don't really see what he brings to the team. He has great engine but his passing,tackling and shooting is poor( apart from the goal v barca ). I also hate the way Jose uses him as a right sided player as he's never part of the game. Oscar for me is a tricky one,I'm 50/50 as he's certainly talented but does not produce on a regular basis. I would only like to see him leave if a top,top player was brought in (pogba). Luis: things sometimes don't work out,quality player but doesn't suit the mourinho way as he's not quite good enough defensively. Mikel: move him on and bring van ginkel back into the squad. I actually thought romeu was a decent young player so also keep him as a squad player. Moses,Marin,kakuta,piazon,atsu, I don't see them being good enough to play for chelsea.
Regarding signings:
Gk: begovic or ruddy. I hope we do not sign rob green, he always has a mistake in him.
Defence: Godin or varane
Midfield: I would love to see pogba or Vidal. Cheaper option would be ever banega who I rate very highly.
Striker: greizman,benteke or lacazette

{Ed002's Note - Clubs do not keep players because of "vibes".}

Thanks for everybodys inputs very intertesting. Just to explain my rationalle behind Willian:
This year he has only scored 4 goals and assisted 5 in all competitions, last year slightly better assists but still only 4 goals!
He is almost 27 so should be at or near his peak and he has never been a big assist or goal scorer. His primary job as an attacking player is to score or assist and he is not giving enough of either. He also slows down our play far too much and is very poor with picking out the right pass. I appreciate that he gives his all for the team but that alone does not mean we should keep him (smertin gave his all did we keep him?)

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed018's Note - I think we should keep Willian but I don't think he is good enough to be the first choice Rw in most matches. In a match when you need to keep a good defensive shape I think he's a good fit but to me he offers very little in the attack. Against lesser sides who sit deep you need someone who can create and score}

Blueboy1 you are talking about 250m€ in transfers.

Good point Pearce but you look at Willians goals he scored even the two he scored for shaktar against us are all more or less from central positions. He'd score a fair few more goals as a no.10 I think but then again you could say the same for Hazard or Griezmann.

15 May 2015 17:30:20
People,signing Willian for 40m€ was the main reason why Chelsea had to sell players like Mata and DeBruyne to stay within FFP.
That's how everything started. I am not saying that Willian is not good enough as a player but signing Willian and Eto'o (with 5m£ salary per annum) forced Chelsea to sell players from January 2014.
Who is responsible I don't know.

Are chelsea interested in Isco

{Ed018's Note - no}

14 May 2015 20:33:28
A.Madrid will try to prevent Chelsea getting both Koke and Griezman.
I believe that Koke is more vital signing from Mourinho's and Emenalo's prospective and at the end Chelsea will manage to sign Koke.

14 May 2015 21:41:22
I think Chelsea will prioritise Griezmann over Koke

Agree1 Disagree1

14 May 2015 23:32:55
I'd prefer Griezmann. If we want to rival the likes of Bayern/Madrid/Barca in Europe we need a front three who can hit the back of the net. Griezmann, Costa and Hazard would give us that.

Agree0 Disagree1

15 May 2015 07:29:12
If they don't want to lose both then there are definitely alternatives, shouldn't be worried about that. The club will choose the best option available. I'd still like Andre Gomes for example if we need a central mid alternative.

saw a rumour about Marseille and Chelsea starting a relationship similar to the current Chelsea - vitesse one. any news on that?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed018's Note - yes it looks like both clubs are willing to work towards that agreement}

14 May 2015 12:46:28
Two of the players mentioned are meant to be charly
Musonda and Boga which would be good if they get to play a lot.

Agree2 Disagree1

14 May 2015 12:47:51
Definitely like this idea. Marseille play at a far better level than Vitesse and in a physical league too, so should be good for our youth as long as they can get in the team.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 May 2015 12:57:47
One might worry though that our players would perhaps want to stay there after a season or 2 on loan since Marseille is quite a big club. They may not want to come back. I just hope that wouldn't become a problem.
That said, it'd probably be beneficial in the long run. For Boga and Musonda it might be a very agressive loan.

I see there's some progress in the Griezmann deal, Chelsea doing the same moves to get Koke too? is there any new info about him?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No.}

14 May 2015 01:54:32
Hi Ed, I have been wondering, what happens if Drogba AND Remy leave in the summer? I can imagine that Griezmann will be one of the replacements, but he is not a pure striker, does the club sees him purely as a winger or AM?
In that case I think we will still be short of strikers. Are any other new players considered? especially given the fact that lacazette, icardi and dybala look very difficult to sign.
Cheers Ed
