I know this is totally random, but does anyone know if chelsea players have to wear adidas boots? I query this just because Torres has ALWAYS been a nike t90 lazer wearer, yet tonight he's been wearing adidas f50? something from nothing I know, just wondering that's all.
Good win in the end.
Many thanks.

Believable3 Unbelievable3

Nope many players (hazard, rami, mata, cole, Luiz, Cahill, Cech, Bertrand, and probably others I'm forgetting) play nikes. Torres happens to be a flaky case and does a lot of different things wether it's the hair, the sleeve length, or the taping on his wrists.

Tk

Agree0 Disagree0

Mata has been wearing adidas lately as well

Agree2 Disagree0

As has petr cech

Agree1 Disagree0

As has bertrand and torres was wearing preds not f50

Agree0 Disagree0

I would of assumed that the players were obliged to wear Adidas boots due to the sponsorship with Chelsea. I believe that players aren't allowed to sponsor competing brands but whether that includes wearing their boots for games, I'm not sure.

Ramires is the man on fire. I remember people slating him earlier in the season. but I must his the tireless speedy player that offers us something special.

Well done to Torres today. Happy for him. His rightfully been slated previously but today it was a different man.

Ramires plays better when paired with Obi.

Agree4 Disagree1

Ramires plays better when he's the attacker not defender.

Agree5 Disagree2

He can't pass to save his life, against tester teams he is totally outclassed. {Ed018's Note - like at the weekend against United when he ran their midfield ragged?}

Agree7 Disagree5

He's awesome, he just needs to learn to keep te ball under pressure and learn to make a forward pass.

Agree3 Disagree0

He typically has a heavy first touch but sometimes he is such a smooth finisher. When he acts without thinking he is fine but when he has time to think he makes mistakes.

Agree3 Disagree0

Ranires is at his best when pinching the ball and breaking with it. He's so hard to catch when in his stride.

Ads

Agree0 Disagree0

If he gets a guy next to him that dictates the game and breaks up the oppositions play he is a very scary matchup and a really miserable game for the opposing midfield.

Tk

Agree1 Disagree0

Our whole team is better when we go for it we move quick pass quick. When we play slow pass back this is when it effects ramires, mata, hazard. BLUEBOY1

It could only happen to Torres. Scores a good finish to send us through then blazes a penalty against the bar. Still, the fire looked back in that second half and he should of had another penalty after he was scythed down and also an assist apart from Benayoun being an person.

Anyway my ratings
Cech: 7/10: Top save to stop Resescu. Had little else to do.
Azpilicueta: 7/10: Solid. Tried to link with Torres and Mata down the wing.
Terry: 7/10: Could have organised defence better and caught several times on break, but scored terrific header to revive us.
D. Luiz: 6/10: Caught out at Resescu chance and found wanting at times. Better in midfield.
Cole: 7/10: Top sliding tackles, worked well on the wing and assisted across the defence when some players were out of position.
Mikel: 6/10: Broke up play well. Could of being more decisive with passing but worked hard and unlucky not to score.
Ramires: 7/10: Poor marking from the corner which they scored from but worked so hard again and drove from the midfield. Another impressive performance.
Mata: 10/10: My MOTM again, worked hard, linked brilliantly with Eden Hazard and Torres. Another goal and slowly becoming the best playmaker in Europe in my opinion.
Oscar: 6/10: Looked lightweight and needed to step up more. Still looks confused at times but showed flashes.
Hazard: 9/10: Awesome dummy to roll the ball to FT9 for his finish, worked hard, won free-kick which we converted from for Terry and is showing he is worth every penny of the £32 million we paid for him.
Torres: 7/10: Looked anonymous until about 70 minutes bar getting in the way of Ramires from the corner they scored from. Then scored a top finish and should of have a penalty a minute after. Unlucky with his miss, looked fired up afterwards and should of had an assist apart from Benayoun's silly attempt at a flick.

Subs
Moses: N/A: Didn't get a touch and was used to waste time.
Benayoun: 3/10: Had a minute on the pitch and had an easy chance for a tap in after a great driving Torres run but chose to try and be too clever and looked like an person.

Onwards and upwards guys and gals, Hammers at the Bridge this weekend, 3 points and we overtake the Spuds!

Ashley cole only a 7? He was brilliant tonight.
And yes mata played well but I wouldn't give him a 10. 9 or high 8.

Mikel doesn't deserve a 6

Agree3 Disagree7

Hazard MOTM definitely for me

Agree7 Disagree0

Definitely think luiz deserves more than a 6. was solid and the recescu chance was more on terry than luiz. also luiz always looks to move play forward which is rare in our team.

Mikel's passing was shocking first half and nearly cost us two away goals to go up against

Luiz should be played there over Mikel he's got strength vision and a good array of passing.

Mikel cheaply gave the ball away in some terrible positions. I wasnt impressed with him today at all. shame because I thought he was brilliant against utd.

Yeah he made a few good tackles. Missed a few aswell, lost the ball in the worst positions. Another day he could of lost us two away goals. BLUEBOY1

U disgraceful muppet, u're obviously too blind to see what Mikel brings to the team. Luiz gave away the ball that would later lead to their goal inspite of Cole's great defending. Hazard, Oscar, Mata, Ramires all gave the ball away a good number of times. Show the bloke some respect and support the team u claim to love. Everybody gave their all including Torres.

WelshBlueBen {Ed018's Note - are we all gonna argue after a win?}

Problem is bb when mikel loses the ball the only players behind him were terry and sometimes luiz. He nearly cost us v united and tonight. He's riskier than luiz.

Agree5 Disagree1

Seems the norm these days Ed018. Good result. Mata and Hazard are immense together, just on the same wavelength. Oscar still isn't quite there, but IMO has the potential to be better than both.

Nando is such a confidence player these days it's a joke. As soon as he scores, he becomes a world beater.

Hi Ed,
If Courtois were to play in the premier league next season are you aware if there any pl teams that would be willing to take him on loan i. e looking for a new keeper?

Much appreciated {Ed002's Note - There are several looking for a new goalkeeper.}

Ed002 There have been two comments/rumours about Jose possibly coming to Chelsea.
Firstly Balague on Revista said that Mendes has said that its 65% he will come to us 35% PSG and a very small chance he may stay at Madrid.
Secondly its been reported in several newspapers that one of the conditions of him returning involves Emenalo's role at the club.
Did Mendes say that and is there any truth in the Emenalo story?
Thanks {Ed002's Note - Balague's mathematics is clearly lacking. Don't believe everything you read - I have explained there are changes coming in the summer.}

Believable1 Unbelievable1

I think we got stick with baague all the time if you google hm you see him doing 1 0n 1 interviews with pro players all the time, so from the horses mouth, I know other journalists have there source but he talks direct to the players / managers not an agent or a friend of a friend, top bloke and well respected with players and fans alike!

Agree2 Disagree0

He comes out with all sorts of stories every week and very few ever end up coming to reality.
Basically from what I can see nothing has been decided yet and mourinho is one of our options.

Hi all! Just looked at our fixture list on the CFC website and it states that our replay against Man u will be played on Monday 1st April at 12. 30? Does anyone know if this is confirmed? Seems very strange to play at 12. 30 on a Monday? Cheers DJ {Ed018's Note - it's confirmed}

Believable2 Unbelievable0

It's bank holiday mate
Matt

Agree1 Disagree0

Its Easter Monday, that's why its early simply because its a bank holiday. Still sucks if you ask me, we've had a terrible schedule this year and we will have played 9 more games than any other team in the Prem, guess that's the price of last years success. Scott M.

I know there is ill feeling towards Rafa from his time at Liverpool but I just wondered if anyone else has given thought to the possibility of him being offered the job by Mr. A so he could be a scapegoat during a season of transition?.

The fans already dislike him so regarding Lampard, Cole and Terry. Mr. A wouldn't care how they are eased out of the club and if Rafa is blamed for it. with no ready replacement for Cole, he had to be offered a deal, Lampard. it seems. has left the club with a dilemma though.

With the poor handling of Robbie, they couldn't just bring in a top name incase results went the same way they have been. Mr. A would be accountable for that but with Rafa in. the finger points to him and his tactics.

Just a thought.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

Too many conspiracy stories before bed will taint your thoughts.
I think your looking into it too muchn.
One Bomb Tom

Agree2 Disagree0

I agree it was win win for R A, if rafa can pick up a trophy its a bonus but were in transition so if not no problem, if he wins the fa cup or europa he still goes because he's intrem, if he does bad he goes with no fan back lash, we should be in place ready to challenge on all fronts next year, oscar and hazard a year in england, it looks like were going to buy a top goal scorer also, loan players back with a world class manager who surley can't do as bad as rafa looks good to me, mark my words chelsea know who there next manager will be they have had months to sort it rafa was always the scape goat, it wouldn't supprise me if we named our manager a couple of weeks after the season finishes, i'm 50/50 on mourinho he's a winner but I can see him turning hazard from 1 of the most sort after young attacking players in the world into a dogged help your defender type of winger, but he won't be as affective attacking, and I think he will become one of the best in the world his first season in a new country for a 21 year old new lanuage and he has scored 11 goals and has 16 assists stil with maybe 15 odd games left he will be a world beater in years to come he's had a more productive first season than a 23/24 year old david silva had in england and mata had 12 goals 20 assists so will prob beat him in first season, and was 2/3 years younger than both when came to england, future ballon dore winner?
no name

Agree3 Disagree0

I don't think mourinho will turn him defensive. He has an affinity for attacking wing play. He had robben, eto, and now cr7. He will keep him somewhat accountable defensively but not more so than anyone else who would manage us.

Tk

Agree2 Disagree0

Its just joe cole comes to mind signed as the best english number 10 in god noes how long and he had him on the wing tracking back and his goals and creative spark ended he became a decent squad player but hazard has much more than him, and eto was a number 9 striker 30 goals a season + and mourinho put him on the wing and his goals dried up, I think players like messi ronaldo hazard you just got to let them of the leash and say express build a team around them, a world class dm would help this no end!

Agree2 Disagree0

Thats fair ^^^. That being said as long as we win I don't care who's banging them in be it hazard or Torres just as long as we're winning.

Hope we start the team that was playing for the second half at Old Trafford, time to use home advantage and come out flying tonight. If we can put the game to bed early we can sub players needed for the weekend and then its plain sailing. i'm not going to be complacent but Steaua aren't the hardest team we've come up against and we didn't exactly play very well in the 1st leg, with that said I think the players and management knew what the were doing having the FA cup in mind. I think it was a damage limitation game and a relaxed approach with a grab what you can attitude. Tonight will prove me right or wrong, i'd like for us to go on and win this cup and i'm sure Abramovic would like to add it to his haul of silverwear. Going to wear my Mata shirt tonight, always bring me luck, COYB! Scott M.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

It's Rafa, we'll probably start with Benayoun and Ryan Bertrand in the middle and Torres up front. ;)

Hiddink has apparently put his name in the hat for the Chelsea job, just wondered what everyone thought about that if Mourinho chooses to go elsewhere?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

I rate Hiddink very highly, much experience behind him and in the short time he was with us he had a great record, 73% win rate. Whether or not he would be that successful with this team now is another question but he certainly has the qualities to succeed. Scott M.

Agree2 Disagree1

I think he would be a great plan b to mourinho. That being said you can't have both because we found out the last time TSO was here when roman put grant in charge when he was a part of the back room staff at the time.

14 Mar 2013 01:50:52
look, I know the role of mikel is quite important for the team i. e. he needs to make tackles and interceptions etc allowing the other midfielder to push up. but the thing is, DAVID LUIZ is soooooooo much suited for that role. he should be our main holding player while ramires or lampard have the license to push up. this then allows the mazacar trio to do their things. also, by luiz being pushed up in that holding role, it allows ivanovic to slot in at cb which I think is his best position which means azpilcueta can continue at rb as I believe he has been excellent this season for us.

and the other cb should be a rotation of cahill and terry.
thats it really. the key to this is simply pushing luiz up in the dm role permanently and I guarantee this will sort us out for the rest of the season:

Cech

Azpilcueta Ivanovic Cahill/Terry Cole

Luiz
Ramires/Lampard

Oscar/Moses Mata Hazard

Ba/Torres
