I think I'm correct in saying Liverpool are the biggest spenders so far.
Utd have made signings and it's likely (my opinion) that Bale and Sandro will also be joining Jose.
Man City were so far in front of every other team last year they don't have to do much but they will.
Spurs are going down there usual route of last minute transfer activity (like us in recent windows) and my guess is they will try and squeeze the pups out of Utd for their centre half.
So, Sarri and the club have a lot to do and not much time to do it.
I look at the coming season with hope rather than expectation but my mighty blues may well surprise me!
I forgot about Arsenal but that's not unusual.

Now Sarri is with us this next week will probably see a list of sales and releases and obviously some arrivals. The question is, can we go into a new season which is now very close with too many new faces?

The king is dead long live the king.
I’m not happy with the Sarri appointment for the same reasons that so many fellow posters have given but with Zola by his side maybe he won’t do any press conferences!
It would appear that Sarri has a reputation of “attractive” football but I’m sure we will be expecting to much for him to get his methods and style over in such a short space of time.
Sarri also has a reputation of working with what he is given but I’m sure the club will secure at least four players over the next week.
Courtois, Willian, Drinkwater, Zouma, Zappacosta and one or two others will be sold. So, we can expect to raise over £200mil minimum.
I also hope we now have a manager who gives some our young talent a chance.
I think the team leave on Wednesday for a pre-season game in Perth. The season is rushing towards us and we should be prepared for a slow start but I hope I’m wrong!

Pavard would be such a good upgrade on Moses, Pacey and has and engine, Good World Cup will no doubt put price up but his young and would be worth it,

{Ed001's Note - Pavard is a centre back playing out of position at full back for France.}

We all see players we would like during the World Cup that is the great bit about it.
For me tho there is one player.
Loftus-Cheek I am a big admirer of him. People think he is lazy but that is just the way he carries himself much the same as Yaya.
Now we have Sarri I hope he gives him the chance I can’t wait for the season.
COME ON CHELS!

Hey guys. With it looking like a real possibility that Thibaut will be leaving for Madrid this summer and us being heavily linked to Alisson of Roma, im just wondering if anyone who's watched a significant amount of games involving him could tell me if he's really all that. I've only seen him in a couple of CL games last season against Liverpool and against us (can't even remember if he played vs us) and in the World Cup for Brazil and he never looked like a top GK. However, the fact he starts over Ederson for Brazil and all the high praise he receives from so called experts makes me wonder how good he really is. Eds and fellow fans I'd appreciate your thoughts, many thanks!

I’d prefer Pickford think he was class for England.

Pickford ain't in the same level as Courtois, no chance.

Must say Pickford impressed me far more in this World Cup than Alisson did! Oblak is my preferred choice to replace him. I'd like to see us swap TBo for Oblak as he wants Madrid and it would be nice just to mess Real Madrid over a bit haha! Then they can go all out for De Gea as well. Obviously transfer business isn't done that way though!

Good post mate, and to all that replied. I agree with almost everything you all said however, if Willian goes I think we need to push for bailey and no one else. Although zaha is good he’s not world class, bailey has potential to be and we need to snap him up before anyone else does and his price sky rockets.

As for the courtois situation, I do see him leaving and I’m not sure who we’ll replace him with but they have to be class. Allison seems to be the front runner which I’m unsure about as he didn’t have a great World Cup, compared to courtois who was excellent, but if the Brazil manager picked up over edereson every game he must be good

Jorginho I’m happy about, especially as we stole him off city as it shows we are ready to fight for players now which has been a major problem in the past. I personally think he should join a 3 man midfield with Kante and RLC/ Golovin (rotated)

The full backs are a problem, and we do t seem to be interested in replacements. Alonso is great as a wing back but I can’t see him being good as a lb and I still don’t see Emerson as a good player, granted he had a lack of playing time, I don’t see his qualities. Moses has been good but will struggle defensively at rb, I’d love Azpi to play there in a 433 but I feel like we may remain as 3 at the back

Finally the striker. I would love icardi more than anyone up front, he’s young, scores bags of goals, and has potential to be one of the best in the world. We need to spend big on a proven striker and not someone like Morata who had 3 years on different teams benches. Higuain I’m not keen on but I won’t conplain if we do sign him but I’d prefer icardi to anyone else.

Good post, don't be worried about the fullbacks - they aren't the best in Europe but they can hold their own. There's so much potential to improve esp when the football is attacking.

There is some clarity on what we can expect for next season, a squad featuring Jorginho that's managed by Sarri. Here's my view on a how I see the rest of the window going and how our squad will ultimately shape up.

Out of our three 'star players' (Courtois, Kante and Hazard) that have been linked with an exit it's Courtois that I see leaving this summer. I get it, he wants to spend more time with his kids. If I'm honest I don't rate him, and the massive gap he leaves at his near post, as highly as most do; so I won't be too sad to see him go. I think we'll be linked with real top class goalkeepers, such as Alisson, but will ultimately sign Butland; who we've had previous interest in, is home-grown and a much cheaper option.

I think we'll see David Luiz leave the club and be replaced by Rugani as our new CB. He'll mainly fight it out with Christensen and Rudiger for the two CB roles with Cahill watching on from the outside. I'd like to see Ampadu get a decent loan under his belt before replacing Cahill in the squad next season.

Other than Azpilicueta I do worry about our fullbacks. Alonso isn't good enough defensively to play as a fullback, rather than wingback, and Zapacosta just isn't good enough - a return to Italy beckons for him. Emerson remains a bit of an unknown quantity, under Sarri he could well be our first choice left back for next season though. Poor old Moses will stick around till January, or next summer, before he moves to a team that plays with wingbacks. Keep an eye on the progress of James, Sterling and Da Silva at their respective loans - I expect big things.

Jorginho will prove to be a real coup of a signing. I expect him to dictate play from the middle of the park, it might take him a bit of time to adjust but he's never had anyone like Kante next to him in midfield - that'll be a dream for him! Barkley and Loftus-Cheek will have a decent fight for the third spot in midfield, I'd say RLC has the edge at the moment but an injury free Barkley has the potential to be amazing. Fabregas will likely see his last season out deputising for Jorginho, hopefully Mount has a good year on loan and is ready to replace him in the squad next season. Bakayoko will see a lot of time on the bench this year, but could have an important role to play seeing games out.

I don't think Hazard will sign for Madrid, I think Neymar will move there. Zidane was vocally critical of Madrid not wanting Hazard when he left - has that really changed now? Willian I do see leaving the club, I'm not sure who I see replacing him - maybe Bailey or Zaha? Zaha would probably be my choice. Pedro and, hopefully, Hudson-Odoi left competing for the wide spots.

Are we really interested in Higuain, at his age and after, by his standards, a poor season? I'm not so sure. I'd like to see us sel, Morata and sign a real top class striker - like Icardi, but I actually think we'll stick with what we have as our striking options. Maybe, just maybe, this could be Batshuayi's year.

That would leave our squad for this season looking something like - Butland, Caballero, Blackman, Christensen, Rudiger, Rugani, Cahill, Azpilicueta, Moses, Alonso, Emerson, Jorginho, Kante, RLC, Barkley, Fabregas, Bakayoko, Hazard, Zaha, Pedro, Hudson-Odoi, Morata, Giroud, Batshuayi.

Do like the idea of Zaha joining but worried he would cost a hell of a lot. Any Eds know of any interest from us or elsewhere?

{Ed001's Note - not from Chelsea that I am aware of.}

I am worried because there is a lot of interest in Kante from really big clubs and signing Jorgino means tripling CDM position with Kante and Bakayoko.

I agree with a lot of that Zaha would be a great option but probably off the bench. I’d like to see Bailey join he looks like he’s going to be a star and he’s a left footed. The Hudson-Odoi as fourth choice. Alisson is essential if Courtois leaves as he fits the Sarriball type of a keeper who plays out from the back. We should get about 50m for T-Bo so it wouldn’t be much on top. I like Rugani but why waste money in that position when we have Zouma? Christensen and Rudi are quality but none of our CB’s have the physical strength of Zouma.

Willian, Pedro, Fabregas and Drinkwater should be moved on now we can get some really good fees for them. I’d expect them 4 alone to raise us about 140m without selling Courtois. Zappa should also go if there’s interest. Players like Omeruo, Kane, Kalas and Piazon should be moved on as they have no future here.

Good post J, far better to read something constructive on here as opposed to the usual moans from some of our fellow posters. I think Sarri will only want players who are comfortable on the ball, good in possesion and able to pass with speed of thought. Sadly, that rules out the likes of Zouma who, despite his physical attributes and pace is pretty poor in possesion. Luiz would fit a Sarri team very well as would Cesc. I would love Willian and Hazard to stay but fear 1 if not both will go this Summer but I think RLC will play as one of the 10's behind a striker, probably Higuain. Kante alongside Jorgino and Golivin would be a fantastic 3 man midfield with a back 4 of Azpi at RB, Emerson at LB and Rugani and Rudiger or Christensen at CB.

TomB - I've decided to only start thinking about a replacement as and when Hazard actually goes. Until then I'm gripping onto hope that he stays.

Antibot - I don't think we'll deploy a holding midfielder in the traditional sense. Jorginho is very much a deep lying playmaker and I see Kante, if we play a system similar to Napoli, as more of a 'disruptor' pressing across the midfield rather than holding in front of the back four.

King Frank and G8 - I don't see Zouma as being technical enough for Sarri's preferred style of football. He'll be a great defender for someone, but I don't think it'll be for us.

J I will adopt your reasonable approach to Hazard. It will make me a lot happier!
