Hyperthetical but still relevent!
I believe if Drogba had stayed this season we would have won the world club cup and we wouldn't be out the champs league and I think we would be in a better league postion just due to the fact we don't convert enough chances.
Thoughts?

He doesn't really fit into the style of football were trying to move towards, having said that Torres doesn't fit any football we play atm. Times change and it was the right time for him to move on, like Torres and Lampard this summer.

Agree6 Disagree0

Oh I do agree, but if we had a goal scorer like him we would have done a lot better than a below par Torres

Really would like to see draxler at Chelsea! He's superb!

Believable4 Unbelievable4

He deserved a goal against Galatasaray tonight he carried schalke fantastic performance. The lad has everything Germany needed worry when the likes of Schweinsteiger retires with Draxler there. I think that we only need another midfielder though and that would be a Fellaini/Fernando type to give us a physical edge with the likes of Mata/Hazard/Oscar playing

A couple of good games and suddenly he's a world beater. typical

Agree2 Disagree3

A couple of good games? He has been playing well for the best part of 18 months mate. Just because you don't follow other leagues, doesn't mean others don't.

Very commonly we get stick about having 22 (number varies) players on loan so I wanted to look further into it to see what was really going on. These are my findings.

Courtois, kdb, and lukaku-obviously could help but we have guys who are in their positions that will need to be moved on before their integration.

Essien-he's in a weird position where he could make a contribution but the club don't really want him and can't sell him so they loaned him so they could get him off their hands temporarily. Also when he was loaned Raul was still on the team and Romeu hadn't picked up his injury yet.

Piazon, Josh, chalobah, kalas, pva, Kakuta, omerou and thorgan-can't make much of an impact currently due to logjams at their respective positions and the thing they need most is games.

Delac, walker, Clifford, affane, osmanovic, Davila, pirez, bamford, bruma, hutch-cant make an impact and will probably move on to another club eventually.

By my counts that is 4 players that can make a legitimate contribution to our team, with 8 having the potential to do so down the road but not ready yet, and 10 that won't make a contribution to this club in all likelihood. I guess you could say they could make a more concerted effort to move on the kids that won't make an impact but then you run into something Dortmund did where they released Marco Reus and then had to buy him back. You could also raise questions about essien but at least he's somewhat off of the books.

This is the summer to make some final decisions on players and to get rid of some deadwood from the 1st team and loanees

Agree0 Disagree2

Wasn't Clifford released?

Agree1 Disagree2

Conor Clifford was, Billy Clifford is at Colchester on loan and playing well by all accounts.

Agree1 Disagree0

These were the guys listed on the clubs site. I believe saffold is currently on loan as well.

On loan players had a good week end. Van aanholt, debruyne, lukaku a had man of the match. Kakuta and kalas were excellent. Kalas had sickness though at half time. Mceachran has been ill. Piazon got an assist but sometimes, apparently looked a bit indecisive. Read and heard some good stuff though :)

Believable2 Unbelievable0

I'm sure most of you already know this but for those that don't the excellent weaintgotnohistory site does a weekly round up of all loaned players.

The loan roundup they do is fantastic, although I fear it's a little robotic and most comments are based on highlights. I guess you can't really expect them to watch every game though. Unfortunately a lot of articles written are also wild speculation linked to twitter. Although they point this out in most, none of the editors have a clue about the inner workings of Chelsea, which is why this site absolutely smashes it, when it comes to factual information. If it wasn't for the abuse from annoymous trolls Ed002 gets, I'm sure, as in the past, we would be privy to a lot more info.

The knowledge of the posters on WAGNH is a whole nother topic. Some of them make curt look like a genius. I think the majority of that site is made up of the new age 'bandwagon' supporters. People with no affiliation to the club, that don't know the history and what it means to support the club, but want to support a successful team that in recent times has bought superstars consistently.

The articles are great but it's painful to read the comments. Not to mention over the past 4 months it has gotten pretty boring reading articles that just lay into Rafa day after day. I dislike the bloke as much as the next person, but it's site like those that lead to the misconception that the whole of the home support is up in arms and not supporting the team.

Howard Webb looked at the footage and said its not a red card offence,, be harsh if it was a red,, he did only push him from behind, kick him then help him up whilst verbally abusing him.

Agree7 Disagree1

What a disgrace, man u, Howard Webb and the FA again. If it was a chelsea player the story would be different.

How much more blatant does he have to be?

i just read that we have only kept 6 clean sheets in the last 20 games and 2 of them was against lower league teams, do you think this hilights the need for new defensive signings as its clearly no were near good enough?

Believable10 Unbelievable0

Get rid of Cech and use Courtois

Put Torres in goal, he might save more than he scores.

this is my under 23 team give it 2/3 years and a decent manager and the addition of new signings and other players we already have I really think were going to be awsome wenger would love to have this lot lol oh and forgot de bruyne and a couple others, this season i'd be happy with 4th to be honest and next year bring in 3 signins who would walk into the team and the loan players back we will be a top top side again have faith and support though the tough times because I think our best era is just around the corner. # blue futre!
no name!

Believable4 Unbelievable1

Then we will be the next Arsenal all the gear but no idea, we need a blend of youth with old experience we need some players near 30 with 100's of games under there belt a ballack or essien player who's been about and some grit about them. that team is very wishy washy and no muscle

Tom

Agree5 Disagree3

Yes I agree that's why I said 3 new signings ie fellani falcao hummels good new spine and I said the players we already have luiz cole ramires mata ivanovic I was making the point of picking the best youngsters we have with the best players in our starting 11 now and adding 3 new players and were be a force to recon with sorry I wrote it so cryptic lol
no name

Agree6 Disagree0

Bertrand is nearly 24 he ain't good enough

Agree10 Disagree0

Ive read Hummels won't be coming, but I agree a player like that is what is needed, Terry is on his way out and we need someone to bleed for us. Fellani is a good player but i'm not 100% convinced he is the answer he players in the old Lampard role of attacking mid with well timed runs but we have our attacting trio, we need a toure or a bastian schweinsteiger. but I do agree
Tom

A fellani type player is what we need some physical win the ball type of player just what maca did for us in the Jose era

No NAME!

Believable2 Unbelievable1

If our spine is Cech, Luiz, Mata and Ba I think that only City and United look better. Spurs spine would be up there, but Bale would be where Dembele is, and they have no striker of worth, so they would be slightly worse.

Agree1 Disagree5

Thats why I made the point of bale playing his new role second striker as that's his new position
no name!

Agree1 Disagree1

Yeah but he isn't a second striker mate, he plays behind the striker. In the mata role.

Agree1 Disagree6

On this seasons form I'd Cech over all of the other goalkeepers other than Lloris - who I think has been outstanding since coming into the Spurs team.

In my opinion Kompany is the best CB in Europe, Vermaelen and Vidic haven't looked great this season, I'd take what we have over them. Vertonghen is better than what whe have too (what are they putting in the water in Belgium). What we have is better then Agger, Jagielka and Colochini.

Wilshire is class but not as good as Mata, I'd judge Oscar compared to him next season. Wouldn't swap any of our midfield for Gerrard (but would have two years ago), Carrick, Dembele, or Cabaye - Toure and Fellaini would get in our team.

I would take all of the strikers, except Jelavic and Cisse, over what we have.

The only player we have that comes close to Bale is Hazard, right now Bale is the better player but once again its his first PL season - compare the two next season.

Agree3 Disagree0

Or the rooney role mate and he started for wales in october as a forward / 2nd striker / number 10 type playe or what ever you want to call it I say tomato and you say tomato ( antagonistic ) lol

Agree1 Disagree1

Rooney does not play as the second striker mate. The no 10 role is not a second striker. They play behind the striker. Go on the united page and read some posts, he has been a midfielder this year, according to all of their fans. I'm not trying to antagonize you, I'm pointing out Bale can not be counted as a striker. If he can, then so can Mata as he is the no10. Would you call Mata a second striker or a midfielder?

Agree Tyler, Lloris has been immense. I'd take Ba over Giroud. Only better in that list IMO are Suarez, RVP and Aguero. i'd take Luiz over Vertonghan as Dawson has been their best CB this year on a consistent basis. Kompany is clearly the best CB in the league.

Yaya for me would be the only one I'd say would push Mata for best midfielder in the league. Fellani is not at the level yet IMO.

Agree2 Disagree8

When spurs played inter they played 442 bale and defoe and they talked about avb praising him for playing bale up top, when spurs didint have the ball they set up as 2 banks of 4 and bale and defoe ready to counter the pundits talked about bale playing as a Striker and said that's were they see him from now on, they showed his last 4 seasons goal wise I can't really remember I think 14 his best last season as a winger, and again praising avb for palying him up top, and for chelsea mata is not a forward but I seen him play up top for valencia more than once when they played 433 and they interchanged so in parts of games he was playin as the highest player through the middle aka as striker / forward/ number 9 / false number 9/free attacking role, and its worth you looking on the net for bales touches in the inter game as 70 od percent were in the box/ edge of the box very simlar to defoes, but defoe went wide a lot and bale went as the spear head so make of it what you want, ps don't take it personal this propper banter not some rubbish about should we sign falcao or not
no name

Agree1 Disagree2

Mate I don't take it personally at all. When they played Inter, they were up against a weak, weak team and wanted to exploit them. Although Bale was often found in a 442 it was more of a 4411. Bale was not deployed as a left forward. He may of found himself there at times but he was played behind Defoe most of the game. Pundits are the most unreliable people in the world, most know, or Atleast seem to know nothing.

When they played Liverpool Bale played behind the striker in a Mata esque no. 10 role. He was kept quiet by Lucas almost all game, so I don't see how they think Bale will only be played up top. To me that's rubbish. He is a winger, who has in recent weeks been played central. Happy to agree to disagree mate.

Agree3 Disagree4

Bale and Rooney are as much Midfielders as Cristiano Ronaldo or Messi are. Call them whatever you want, but they are the focal points of their attack. (Well in certain situations they support the striker, or whatever) Positions are unimportant. But Spurs go as far as Bale takes them. So much can be said about Ronaldo and Messi.

JG

Agree4 Disagree1

Come off it JG. Messi plays a false nine role and is their primary 'striker'. Ronaldo is a class above the other two and plays very much as a winger. He cuts in a lot and scores an incredible amount of goals but Benzema and Higuan are their strikers.

Look at how man goals Bale scores from inside the box. Often if he does score from inside the box, it's after a 40 yard run. He may be the vocal point of their attacks but he doesn't play upfront. His class is in his ability to run past players.

Seriously Bale and Mata are nowhere near the players of Ronaldo and Messi. Bale is comparable to the way Ronaldo plays but once again he isn't a striker.

It's funny how you claim he has had one good game and then call someone else clueless. Using your logic of him not being Chelsea quality and anyone that disagrees is clueless; does that make Jose, Guus and Carlo clueless? Is RDM clueless for saying he plays a thankless role (shown by you to be correct)? Jose pushed for him to bought off Manchester United before even playing a game for them, he must be the most clueless of the lot. OR are you the clueless one?

Food for thought

Believable4 Unbelievable10

Jose, ancelotti and hiddink all prefered other dm ahead of mikel. Either ballack, Essien and even belletti. Mikel is an average player. GreAt and cutti g out balls and some tackles. But he's terrible in oppositions half, but I swear lampard makes him look worse.

Agree8 Disagree3

12 Mar 2013 03:21:02
It's really a shame that the fans are not given a chance to manage the club or make team selections.

Agree4 Disagree4

He is a holding midfielder, he is in the side to make interceptions and tackle! By far and a way our best central midfielder without the ball, and gives Ramires the freedom to get up and down. Granted his passing is sometimes rushed and sloppy further up the pitch, but it also a part of his game I think has improved a lot over the last year or so. Also probably one of the more consistent performers in the side over the course of the season aside from Mata. I agree, him and Frank playing together is far from ideal, but people need to get off his back and realise he does a job for us, and an increasingly good one.

Agree8 Disagree3

Man united counter attacked us twice on 2 loose Mikel passes. Would have been different if luiz and hazard didn't stop them.

Agree4 Disagree2

Exactly Blue25. I find it's people with a complete lack of understanding of football that have a problem with him. He has been very good this year, but those that don't understand the game want to slate him because he doesn't do the flashy things. He adds balance to the midfield.

Unfortunately these no names tend to like to agree to their own posts and disagree with others. The am beginning to overrun the site and I'm sure I'm not the only one getting ready to leave. Just like Osgood, Shed, Samarat, Jono and ELI as well as others. Its a shame because last season we had a great group that got on well, didn't abuse eachother and now we are stuck with these whinging gromits.

Agree5 Disagree6

People on here see mikel has no goals or assists so see him as a bad player. We missed him when he went African nations and we miss him when his bot in starting lineup. He could play next to Luiz Ramires or Oscar IMO

Agree5 Disagree1

I think Mikel has improved this season, at the start of the season he looked slow and didn't put any effort in getting back to help but that could have been the managers wishes you just don't know, but at present Mikel works hard for the team, I would like him to win a header every now and again and maybe improve his passing. but he does a good job.
