Was at the game today, as perhaps were several others, so you can watch all the movement players make that can be missed when camera tracking them. Bats was very disappointing a) because his hold up play was so poor (Costa so good at this), particularly needed when you are down to ten men; b) his movement off the ball in general poor, Morata providing a dramatic contrast in this respect. So in first half, apart from some typical Willian runs and a few good passes from Fabregas, we posed almost no threat up front once Cahill self-destructed. Second half, once Morata on, we we were far more threatening but sorely missed Hazard and or Pedro and/ or much else to offer from bench. So yes we are thin and need more signings and with Spurs up next his is a worrying start that will have pundits endlessly recalling the season before last and suggesting this will be a repeat. Let them be wrong!

We still win the league, regardless of what people will say. This result could be a blessing in disguise and gel the group in more and give them extra motivation to not be as naive as today. Bottom line is regardless of how poor the ref was or how harsh we feel the red was, we shouldn't have lost the heads like Conte said. Look how Liverpool reacted earlier to going 1-0 down or how arsenal did against Leicester? Kept their heads played their game and got points. Cesc for me should have come off and pushed Luiz in beside Kante with Christensen on for Bats. Play willi false 9 til HT and bring Morata on then, no way we concede 3 then, but sure look. Everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong in that game. The players were obviously fired up to prove doubters wrong and so it hurt doubly so when their efforts were rewarded with being put down to 10 men and found themselves 3 goals down at halftime.
Then a goal taken well Morata, only to have it effectively cancelled out by the disallowed goal that would have counted if Morata had left it.
I'm not really worried about the team long term: we currently have three starters making their way back from injury - Bakayoko, Hazard and Pedro. What worries me more is if our short term is so poor that we can't recover and mount a decent title challenge. It's beginning to show in the player's temperaments and that's poor management by Conte as he also shows a lack of self control in that area. Can we keep our cool and recover? Time will tell.
All the same, it's too much to ask for new players to be brought in and immediately make an impact. Obviously great if they did, but it shouldn't be expected. Too much pressure exerted will make them choke. Shevchenko and Torres are good examples of this.
I expect us to hit full stride by late September. I just hope by then it isn't too late.

Big decisions to be made this week by the club. Either back Conte or face no champions league football again next season. Sold off all the squad players, loaned out younger players who were ready to be squad players and options this season, basically left ourselves with nothing on the bench.
We currently have 3 central midfielders in the squad, one is excellent, the other is injured, and the final one is perhaps the best passer in Europe but has the mobility of a pensioner. How have the management team let this situation happen? The club went over Conte's head with the Matic sale and don't look like they're going to replace him with anyone significant.
We need 4 players minimum, and by the middle of the week ready for Spurs!
This result today is not even shocking to be honest. I've been saying for a good while that Cahill is a liability. Fair enough it may not have been a red but what an awful touch in the first place. The bloke got himself off the hook so many times last season by scoring important goals after making awful mistakes. Van Dijk is available, go and buy him now! We need 2 full backs. We need at least 1 central midfielder, and I mean a proper one too, not talking Danny Drinkwater here!
So frustrating that we win the league and weaken the squad rather than strengthen it - we do this EVERYTIME we win the league and it can't continue! Get rid of the transfer team, we know who they are and it's time for them to go. It's time the club pulled its finger out their backsides and backed the bloke who won us the league last season! In Conte we trust, but the bloke can't work miracles when the club are doing him over! Changes are needed desperately, and quickly, otherwise it could be a good hiding next week against Spurs!

Aurier seems to be available we should definitely get him I know he's had issues but he's a quality player. Rose would be a dream and seems he's available but I doubt Levy would sell. Drinkwater seems the only player available for midfield.

Not sure how anyone can be confident for this season. We win the title and from then on in it has been a dreadful Cup Final, dreadful preseason, dreadful Community Shield and what can one say about today. The defence did not suffer unduly with the red card and yet we let three shocking goals in. Morata is going to have to play his way in from now on in, no waiting until he is ready and he needs a new signing with him, not convinced with Bats although not entirely fair to judge him on today but at 23 I do not think he is good enough for the Premiership and certainly not Europe.

Few pointers from today that should be followed in the future:
• Morata should start always he's going to be class for us.
• Fabregas is not mobile enough to play in a midfield two he should only start if we're going 3-5-2.
• Azpilicueta never has or never will make a good wing back as he's not good enough offensively
• Cahill should not be captain. Azpi or Luiz would be far better leaders.
• Danny Drinkwater will not answer our midfield woes I'm hoping Bakayoko can play vs Spurs.
• Taking off Boga for Christensen was a bad idea we should have kept him on and gone 4-4-1.

Can't say I agree on everything.
- Fully agreed on Fab. I've been saying it for weeks, he just isn't suited to it.
- Azpi is a better wingback than Moses in my opinion. His crossing and cutbacks are better than Moses' final ball. He's also more tidy and makes quicker decisions on the ball than Moses. Only thing he's worse at is dribbling. Defensive side of his game is obviously miles ahead of Moses.
- Cahill let his club down today. Ridiculously stupid that he tries to dribble his way through, and then an unnecessary and clumsy challenge to top it off. Embarrassing by our captain. Fab was rash and stupid as well for his cards. Both of them let us down. But if Cahill doesn't go to ground on that "tackle" then we win the 3 points for sure.
- I understand Boga being taken off, and thought Christensen did very very well. Also could've perhaps had a goal if Morata hadn't touched that shot of his. We'll never know, but Christensen showed what he's good at besides defending. He's fantastic on the ball and isn't afraid to join in the attack at times.

It is always different when watching on the box (NBC) than at the Bridge; with the advantage of slow motion replay, I would say that the ref only got 2 decisions wrong - the late free kick given against Rudiger and . Alonso should have been sent off in the first 5 minutes as his 'tackle' was the worse out of him, Cahill and Fab.
Indeed. The positives: great fightback spirit; Willian exceptional; Kante superb; Rudiger and Morata look the real deal.
The negatives: Fabregas is a carthorse; Courtois is not a great keeper (and I'm allowed to say this as I've posted similar views before) ; and Conte. 'Conte' I hear you exasperate - yes, Conte - 1) I think he made the wrong decision in replacing Boga with Christiansen - our 3 at the back then had 2 players making their debut and none of the 3 having played together before; surely it would have been better to move Aspi to his normal position and have Boga playing wing-back; 2) Conte's whole demeanour over the last few weeks has been negative and that gives the players an 'out' before the game has even kicked off.
Anyway, 1 down 37 to go.

Cahill was unlucky, 9/10 times that's a yellow. you've only got to look at Arfields tackle on Alonso, yellow card. BUT Fabregas, a player of his experience. getting 2 silly yellows? He's lucky the 2nd wasn't a straight red and now he's banned!
On the plus side, Rudiger and Christensen both had solid games. Morata was class, goal and assist aside, his overall hold up and closing down was excellent. He's got very good movement and touch for a big lad.
Big week for the club in terms of transfer activity, we need to get over this quickly. I actually think it's a good time for us to play Spurs, we won't be taking anything for granted and should be well up for it.
As long as the board get their act together and we don't let let results spiral out of control, I'm pretty optimist about this season.

The referees have decisions to make and they have sent off four of our players in three matches; they are not wrong all the time. Cahill goes off and we bring on a defender; where was our defence for three goals? We are 3-0 down and we swop a forward for a forward, why not go for it with Morata, Willian and Bats. Strange match squad, cannot see why Morata was not started and we are currently a shambles. Even if we buy in the next ten days we are going to be potentially unsettled until Christmas. The Las nail in my cuffin was foul and yellow card to rudiger when clearly it was a could for burnley player, it looked that this ref had a vendetta against our team. Also any foul would have sent fabregas off.

Everyone who said everything will be fine it's only preseason, well now the season has begun and we still look **** and our squad is threadbare. Against 11 men cesc can't play in a midfield two and now we're down to 10 men we have no one to replace him (Matic comes to mind)
With Diego Costa up front at least we would have someone to hold the play up in this situation. I don't want to be negative but I just can't be positive/ confident with the current squad. Hopefully we can somehow get something out of this game but it's going to be a long season for us unless we make some good signings in the next few weeks.
