im sorry but Mikel was dreadful all of last season and pre-season bar one or two games. he was very poor today and was like playing with 9 men out there. we need a midfielder or at least have josh playing some first team football instead of sending him out to wovles or middlesbrough

I must have watched a different game today, apparently it was not hazard I saw who was poor in possession, did nothing really at all, and was so fancy he even managed to knock himself on his own face then took a dive that Ashley young would be proud of.

Red Rat

Believable3 Unbelievable3

Hazard played a poor game but he didn't dive, he didn't even appeal. don't get me started on ashley young

trueblue012

Agree0 Disagree2

Hazard wasn't exactly poor. He didn't do anything spectacular but linked up well with Mata on occasions and showed glimpses of brilliance. People expect him to set the stage on fire every time he plays and are too quick to dismiss him when he doesn't match these high expectations. If you look at player ratings on the majority of websites he is given as better than the average performance; not bad for his first proper game.

Rowan

Agree1 Disagree1

Yeah he just decided he would fall down for absolutely no reason because someone went at him but never touched him. It was a clear dive.

Red Rat

Agree1 Disagree0

Hazard looked sharp to me

Agree2 Disagree1

Yeah you need to...if you expect torres to score 50 goals immediatly coming to chelsea for 50 mill..hazzard to need to set the fire straight away with 30 mill transfer fees..
still upset with lampard and mikel..they are useless..
torres cannot score alone..he needs killer pass...ramirez should play behind torres..
and sturridge should never start..

Agree0 Disagree0

He did at one point Red Rat but it looked to me like he was expecting a challenge and went down to avoid it. It wasn't like he appealed for a free kick.

I guess most of us want mikel out of starting XI, and put ramires in Mikels place as ramires is wasted on right wing and will do better as one of two holding midfielder. However when ramires will play with lampard it will make difficult for chelsea defence. As both are attack minded and will move forward and hence causing problem for our defence during counter attack by opposition.
I would like ramires to play alongside essein, romeu or even luiz rather than mikel in those two holding midfielder role. And lampard to come off bench and have impact as substitue.
If essein is fit and near to his best he will sure be in for those CM role. However it seems unlikely and hence we need to find solution for it.

How about starting with..........
its gonna be 4-2-3-1 .......
but actual playing position on field will be like .......

---------------------cech--------------------

ivanovic-----cahill---------terry-------cole

luiz--------------
---------ramires-----------

oscar--------------mata------------------hazard--

--------------------torres--------------------

Subs:
Turnbull, bertnand,lampard,romeu/essein(if fit always ahead of romeu), marin, Moses/Schurle(new right winger), sturridge.
No place on bench for: Mikel, meireles, malouda, benayun

David luiz is very good player with some good skills on ball and nice passing range. I guess RDM should try luiz in pivot role, after all the boy started playing football as defnsive midfielder only n later on shifted as central defender.
Some of you might say mata or hazard should play in no 10 role instead of oscar. But i guess oscar will suit more there as he will fall back in midfield , collect ball from deep midfield and develop attack from there.
Oscar, ramires, luiz playing in midfield area will complement them well so as team as all are brazilians and will have much better communication during match.
This will also benefit us as we can afford to keep just one defender on bench and add more attacking option on bench as luiz if required can fall back in defence.
Thats my thinking........
guys urs will be different.......
but its not gonna matter bcaz d man whose thinkin matters is RDM......
hope he will have better solution than this.

I would switch Romeu for Luiz and put in Luiz for Terry, if not this season then definitely next. I have so much respect for big JT but he is losing his speed and it can cost us, as we get caught out. He usually makes up for it with his tactical awareness, but when it happens it can be costly.

Still Not Convinced with our midfield i don't think we move the ball about quick enough for my Liking I Think We Should get a really good midfielder or something it's not okay to go out and buy another striker he could be like Torres If the strikers aren't getting service how are they going to perform?

Luiz didnt play a blinder but I think he was our best defender. Terry was at fault for 2 of the goals Ivanovic got a red and Cole was lucky not to get a second yellow.

Hey Guys,

Mikel played awful today, right?

I know people are mystified as to why RDM is still playing Mikel, but I am SURE that as soon as Oscar and Marin returns, and we buy Victor Moses and Cavani, Mikel will be thankfully left out.

I say this because Ramires is playing as a right winger now. However, as soon as soon as Moses/Oscar/Marin comes into the fold, Ramires will take Mikels place as holding midfielder.

Or thats what I hope anyway.

Samir

Believable5 Unbelievable3

I hope you are right but I just can't see it, I was one of the people really not wanting to give Di Matteo the job. I want to be proved wrong but this constant playing Mikel and Ramires out of position does not help.
RDM seems set on Ramires on the right and Mikel in a holding role.

Agree2 Disagree1

Mikel has improved in second half. Essien would do better.
D

Agree0 Disagree2

There was one point yesterday (cant remember if it was before or after our second), anyway we were on the break and mikel had the ball just outside their box but instead of a litlle through ball into one of our attacking players, he waited for what seemed like an eternity just to do a little sideways pass to Ramires who had bombed up from rb. Completely wasted the opportunity. Sums him up generally

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2012 20:36:04
I don't know where all this hatred for Luiz comes from. He was fairly rash in some of his decisions, but given the surrounding players who can blame him. Mikel virtually offered nothing defensively and then when given the ball would lose it putting the defence under pressure. Terry was fairly shaky and didn't seem to play with confidence, such as the clearance he made and a few marking errors i noticed. Ramires, though i love the guy, is not a defender and it was clear that Luiz was exposed a few times, as Ramires was up the pitch looking for a goal. If it hadn't been for Luiz's pace in a couple of situations the result could of been a lot worse and as for his pushing up into attack during the latter stages of the game, if he had managed to score I'm sure people would have been praising him for doing so.

Rowan

Believable4 Unbelievable2

Yer lampard put people under preasure with his passing aswell.

Agree2 Disagree2

Luiz didn't keep the ball, everytime he got it he just booted it upfield and lost possession. He naively tried to nick the ball at various times during the match which not only gave away free kicks but made our defensive jape extremely poor.

Agree1 Disagree1

Luiz did boot it upfield a few times but he rarely had the option to pass, as unlike Terry who had Cole his full back was often further up the pitch due to being a midfielder. If he had given the ball to mikel he would of more than likely been given it back straight away as well.

Rowan

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd rather him boot it downhill than give the ball away in our half as mikel did consistently.

What RDM sees in Mikel only he knows. That midfield of Mikel and Lamps was bypassed time and again very very easily.RDM must realize that the long ball strategy will not work this season as we do not have the players to do that now.We have fast skillful players who like the ball to be played to their feet, not lumped long.He also has to realize that Ramires is not a wide player and should be playing in the middle .We need a defensive ball winning midfielder like Fellaini,M'Vila,Sahin,Fernando etc.If Lamps and Mikel keep playing in the middle we are in trouble.Cesar has to be a priority signing now as Ivanovic will not be available for the first 3 games and we need cover in the right back position.Hope RDM realizes his mistakes and learns from it.

The old Essien would be exactly what we need! Unfortunately we just don't have the old Essien anymore! One thing is certain Obi Mikel just hasn't developed into a top quality player, his positional play is poor, his size doesn't convey any strength, he can't tackle, his passing is erratic to say the least…the list really does go on. am a builder who barely breaks even BUT!!! i can tell wots wrong with chelsea set up so why cant the staff who earn thousends a week and with coaching badges see it! key problem is you CANT!! play mikel and lampard as a 2 infront of the back 4 infact u cant play either one of them! the 2 that sit infront of the back 4 are the key part of ur team, them 2 players in that formation our key to the tempo in which ur team can play, mikel and lamps are really slow u gotta get the ball of the back 4 and get ur attack going quick to get the best out of ur likes of hazard and mata! being to slow gives teams to get back with numbers! ramires would be one of the players id have in a 2 but i think we would need to buy someone else to partner him. i would of said essien but with the injury problems he had i dnt think he be the same and plus he is another who likes to take to many touches! i really cant understand how rdm and staff cant see it! kevinCFC

Believable5 Unbelievable0

I couldn't agree more. Looking more and more like a fantastic deal if we sign him on a season long loan with the option to buy. Would be gutted if United, arsenal or spurs got him!

Agree5 Disagree0

I have to admit at first I wasn't drawn to this prospect but now I can see the sense in it. I would like josh to be given a chance but looks like he is going to a club in the championship where at least he will play week in week out. Meireles is too erratic to say the least with his passing and could potentially be used in the cavani deal to lower the price a bit, so I think Dahin would be a stunning piece of business.

Agree5 Disagree2

Nah we need a giant midfielder, Maroanne Fellaini would do me! We're too weak and our midfield lost our battle with Yaya Toure today!

Chelsea Nick

Agree3 Disagree4

We've already got Essien and Mikel to add a bit of physicality in the midfield. Fellaini would cost £25-£30m minimum; the deal for Sahin would therefore be much more financially prudent. We need someone who would help the transitional phase.between defence and attack, ie a Pirlo/ Xabi alonso esc player so Sahin would fit the bill.

Well, its over. 3-2 to Manchester City is a good achievement for them however an extreme dissapointment for Chelsea, for the various reasons.

I have to say it was one of the most frustrating games I have seen over the past year or so. There were many aspects of the loss that made it so.

Firstly, the ref. As always when passionate supporters like myself lose a game on one key decision the ref is always first to blame. The key decision amoungst many others was obviously the red card given to Ivanovic. The ref's decision was immidiatley dismissed by the commentators however, was endorced later on. At first it looked an excellent tackle however, with the more camera angles shown the tackle seemed to get worse. It was a two footed tackle and it did get the ball. Despite this, the left leg which went in first was over the ball and and high. This clearly classes the whole tackle as dangerous and potentially inflicting serious injury one of the main criteria for a red card. There are other things which may have influenced the decision. I conclude rather biasly that it was a harsh decision.

The red card inevitably affected the game and with Ramires dropping way back into defence the midfield lost a huge amount of substance. Which is where we lost it, in midfield.

On to the second point, Petr Cech. This point may be controversial however, putting his amazing career aside for this he didn't have the best of games. In theory he should have played well. He had a very good defense at his disposal even when Ivanovic was red carded, I was surprised with Ramires. Two of the Man city goals were long shots which were incredible however, what got me is that he didn't try to make an effort. Potentially he could have got to it, a stunning save would have been neccessary but we all know he can perform those types of magnificent saves.

So that concludes my grumbles.

There some concelations though. Torres had a good game. Scoring first with some great link up play with Ramires. This is the first time I have seen Hazard play and I am impressed. He didn't play awesomely but he did have some good link up play. I can definitley see him along with Oscar destroying teams like Wigan etc. And indeed the bigger clubs. The absence of Oscar was a let down and I can see him being amazing and contributing a lot to the team.

All in all a disappointing game and frustrating but, all these new players aren't going to play at the best in the first game and especially against such a good team. We musn't doubt oursleves and hopefully this will pass onto the players who need to go into this season with high hopes and confidence.

Not the best start but no biggy...

Okay my team ratings for today.
Cech: Little chance with all goals, made a few good saves. Looked fine, not a position I worry about much. 7/10
Ivanovic: Firm up to sending off, but shouldn't have even been sent off. Still was sent off though. 6/10
Terry: Horrific clearance for first goal and looked very shaky against Tevez and Agueros pace. Need to look for a long term sucessor. 6/10
David Luiz: Play Cahill. End of. Too wild in possession, gave the ball away a lot and kept diving in against the city players. Awful attempt at challenge before second goal, still not convinced. 5/10
Ashley Cole: Mix. Looked firm at times and several key challenges but started to lose it in the second half. Lucky not to be sent off but still quite firm. 6/10
John Obi Mikel: Very poor, slow in possession and did little to help any attack efforts. Can easily see Essien overtaking him quickly if he plays like that. 3/10
Frank Lampard: A legend in my eyes and will always be, but needs to move on next summer if not sooner because he was slow in possesion and struggled to make any attacking impact. Give him a testimonial and wave him off into the sunset. 6/10
Ramires: Mix of brilliant with pass to set up FT9 and ridiculous, lucky not to be sent off for foul on Silva in injury time, ineffective on the wing and should not be played there. Not a RB either. 7/10
Juan Mata: Clearly a classy player as we know but looked tired today and struggled to get involved. 6/10
Eden Hazard: Lots of potential, movement and work-rate but little product. Need longer to judge him. Did cause Savic lots of problems, should really have taken him on more. 7/10
Fernando Torres: The real highlight of the day, took goal well, fine work with possession and lots of darting runs and movement with a blend of trickery and caused Kompany and Co. a lot of problems. Think this might be his season and had Toure not scored, I think FT9 may have got MOTM. 9/10

Subs:
Danny Sturridge: Little time to get involved but still assisted with Bertrand goal. Should be kept as an off-the-bench player, can make an impact and nick goals. 6/10
Ryan Bertrand: little to do once on, used to try and stop left wing being so open, good to see him getting game time as he is a class player and reacted superbly with his pace to nick his first Chelsea goal.

That's my judgement chaps, love to hear your thoughts!

Believable7 Unbelievable5

I watched every minute of that game and can see how u gave Terry a higher grade than Luiz. Both the bad clearance and the Tevez goal were on Terry because he should have taken 1 step frwd to cut Tevez off as he came across the middle. I don't understan why Terry won't take on attackers, like Kompany does, he keeps retreating in side the 18(the one that stands out is when he backed away from Milner to give him a free cross and Luiz had to run from his side block the cross out of bounds) to stand there and block shots. I thought in the 1st half Luiz played well, after the early 2nd half goals he started to give the ball away trying to push frwd. Our entire defensive philosophy needs to change as our back four play too deep and concede too much space allowing opponents to easily scan the pitch and pick out passes, not enough pressure.

The other point is Mikel, by far the worse player on hte pitch, he did absolutely nothing for us to deserve 3 points. I don't recall a tackle or positive completed pass(forward) he made in the game, actually hurt us. Why couldn't RDM see that, Manc's attacks in that 1st half were mainly from the wings,(crosses and etc) so when Ivan was sent off why not bring on Hutch (or Cahil and move Luiz outside) and get Mikel off the pitch.

Funny that, I say the exact same thing and people tell me I dont know what im talking about. Luiz is no CB and its been proven over last season and in this game. Mikel is shocking beyond belief, such a wasteful liability. How Ivanovic can keep making tackles like that and keeps getting sent of with a big grin on his face and not get punished by the club is unbelievable, I could give him a slap. Torres is really winding me up, showing he is nothing more than a £50mil spectator in most matches and he had the cheek to ask about his future at the club, ought to have sold him to PSG. Terry was bad today, as was Ash Cole, they better get their acts together and fast.

I have to say that i was rather disappointed with today's game. There was only ever going to be one result after Ivanovic was sent off but i feel that we could of avoided the first goal and despite it being an amazing solo effort from Tevez I'm surprised that no-one challenged him for the second goal. Whilst unfair to blame Mikel, he was largely wasteful in possession, being caught on the ball a couple of times and misplacing several passes. There were of course highlights, with Torres' goal and a few decent performances from the likes of Mata, Ramires etc. I feel however that we will need to improve in possession and passing if we are going to challenge this season.

Agreed Ed, I noticed that. Onto Wigan, the Community Shield is little more than glorified Pre-Season. Get Mikel out and Essien in and use Lampard less/move Ramires inside and I think it will work better.
CFCFOREVER!
P.S. I am glad we at least didn't just give up at 1-3, we scrapped, got a lucky break and if that goal had been 10 minutes earlier, I think we could have got something out of it.
Ah well, at least FT9 scored. He's my Golden Boot sweepstake tip.

Agree4 Disagree0

The ref was very suspect, when did mansour sign him?

Agree4 Disagree1

Also luiz hoofed that free kick back to their keeper which led to their goal, and i got slated for saying cahill should have played

Agree2 Disagree0

And since when does a ref blow for half time when chelsea are on the attack? only a ref on the payroll for citeh

Agree4 Disagree0

^ Shock signing last night as they were sweating over an in-form FT9 against Pantilimon.

Great effort from the lads,we pressured really well.our midfield still has work to do,but all in all was satisfied with the way we played.in time we should be unstoppable.

aL

Believable3 Unbelievable2

Work to do: Sell Mikel
Play Essien and get him to work like Yaya Toure, box to box.
Use Lampard off the bench and play Marin/Oscar in the attacking midfield position, push Ramires back to central
midfield.
Torres needed one chance to score today. Stop slating him and get behind him, Wigan will be A LOT easier next week as will Reading. More passing movement, didn't see just parking the bus today.
CFCFOREVER!
P.S. I see Mancini has matched old Whisky-Nose by getting himself his own midfield maestro: Kevin Friend. He took that game away from us for not understanding the rules of the Game. Why he was refereeing that match today, I'll never know.

Wow mikel is an attack killing machine by far our worst player today. He makes me cringe every time he touches the ball.. Horrible

mikec {Ed018's Note - I've got to say. We can't move forward this season with Mikel and Lampard as our center mids.}

Believable9 Unbelievable1

Essien has to play! And we should get Sahin

Agree2 Disagree0

Quite right ed. something needs to change in that area. i know todays game is a glorified pre season friendly but our form looks like it hasnt changed from last season... and its all down to the defensive mids and the back line..

The ref is a c*** how can you give Ivan a straight red when de Jong done a more dangerous foul on ramires an he doesn't even give a foul. Plus I know we want to give youngsters a chance but why would you bring on Bertrand (defensive player) for an attacking.

I take it back great following in by Bertrand and he's rewarded with it by gettin his first Chelsea goal.

This ref is awful. If you dont give out certain yellows (Milner tackle) because it's a supposed friendly then you can't be swinging straight reds and giving lamps a yellow for a ticky tack professional foul.

You're all persons if you think Torres isn't getting into the game and we need another big profile striker. The bloke is doing everything he possible can, chasing down balls, holding up the ball, getting into space and making runs. Not to mention a tidy finish! Absolute shame to all the people who still doesn't think he's a good team player!

Torres just cant get into the game atm, there just isnt the support for him right now, and we are struggling to get at a fairly weak man city defense.

Mikel is having a shocking day, so many mistake, i hope we see Essien before the end of the day.

Ha Torres just scores! I take it all back, still want to see Mikel off though!

Believable3 Unbelievable2

Oh when i wrote this i did not mean that we need to replace him, he took his goal brilliantly and has started the second half very well, i have always believed he would 'come good' i was just commenting that our midfield was to far from him.

Hi Ed,

Thanks for your time, hope you are well. Just wondering after viewing the other posts our obvious targets this window are Moses, Azcilpueta, Cavani and maybe Hulk. With a week left until the start of the season, how many signings do you roughly think will be completed before the Wigan game? Personally, I feel we are a striker and right back light still.

Come on the Blues today!

Joe {Ed002's Note - I am not going to try and predict when the transfers will complete, sorry.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think Moses looks likely to be completed in the next week, not sure about any others, Azpilicueta could be but there are issues which may hold it up i believe.

I just had a look at the scousers page ( to have a good laugh at their tika-taka chez) anyway, I ran across a post from "osgoodisking" telling them he could see them finishing above us this season. He was actually serious and not totally making the feel stupid, boy I think he might be on something fierce or that might not be the real osgoodisking, cause anyone that believes for a mili second that liverpool would finish above us in the next couple of years is sick.......

ELI

Believable4 Unbelievable1

That is worrying, we could be dealing with the next harrold shipman if this man isnt caught

Agree2 Disagree1

Yeh it was the real me Eli, and i was being 100% serious. I think their going to adjust to life alot quicker than us and this season could be a frustrating one with RDMs tactics. Think we're gonna be hearing alot about keeping the team 'balanced' this season, which means Rami out wide right with mikel and lamps sitting. Either way hopefully the boys can get a result today.

OsgoodIsKing

Agree2 Disagree2

We will have to adjust but saying Liverpool will finish above us is an absolute joke

Agree2 Disagree1

I think osgoodisking is just trying to wind them up, only a bang on the head could make him believe that for real...

Best 11 for next season...

Cech

Ivanovic Luiz Terry Cole

Ramires Lampard

Hazard Oscar Mata

Torres

Cech in goal - standard!

Ivanovic right back until the new signing, whoever it may be, settles in. Terry and Luiz are te first choice partnership at the centre of defence, but Cahill will see a lot of game time too. Cole at left back - standard too but Bertrand will see more game time!

Ramires is wasted out wide, he's the proverbial engine room in the middle of the park - has to play there! Di Matteo will still go with Lampard in 90% of games this season. I'd expect to see either Essien or Mikel join these two at the expense of one of the three attacking midfielders against better teams!

Hazard, Oscar and Mata to play as the three attacking midfielders and constantly interchanging positions! They'll be well backed up by Marin, Paizon and Moses!

Torres remains the 'main man' up front until a new signing is made - then he'll have to show he's willing to fight to be the main man or loose his place!

I don't get it how people just think that whatever player is good we should sign. Chelsea aren't like an alien walking around a supermarket picking out what ever looks good. Transfers have a lot of thought put into them and tactical decisions have to be made. Also, just because players are good on FIFA doesn't mean they are actually good...

Not only that goal, but he won the corner that Drogba scored from. We just need to be less cautious with slow build up play and use our new additions to rip defences apart, Torres will benefit massively from it.
