We need to go back to 433 and be solid in defence and control the games from the midfield, when we used to win the league and were a force in europe we had a rock solid defence and a midfield that was the envy of europe.
We do not need 2 holding mids and having all three of Hazard, Mata and Oscar + Torress is too much of a luxuary as against better teams they dont like doing the work without the ball, except Oscar.
Also I think our forward play is far to narrow, both Mata and Hazard look to cut inside and Oscar goes down the middle, then with Torres dropping deep it make sit easy for the opposition to defend.
We had a system that brought us continued success and was attractive when we had the right players.
Personally i enjoyed watching the Lampard, Drogba, Robben era more than what i have seen so far this season.
Just my opinion, i know it is early days but i think this system leave sus to open against better teams.

Would you have Moses replacing Hazard then we only lack the defening from Mata, but i am sure Hazard wil improve his defend he did defend alot more than usual today aswell.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we would need to use the squad more and rotate the attacking players a little more depending on the opposition.
I just feel we are too open and light weight at the moment and against better teams it is being exposed.
Plus the front players looked jaded yesterday, which is no wonder because they have never had a break for weeks and lots of high intensity games.
I dont want to see us turn into Arsenal, good to watch but no back bone and no trophies.

Torres had a good game today tbh, also in my opinion he doesn't really get the best of services overall. But today he got some decent balls in, but hey ho. Mata i thought was poor today, would've been nice to see marin aswell :(. But di matteo must be under a bit of pressure now loosing to a low table side ;)

We need a striker. I'm not gonna slag off Nando, but we need a striker desperately who's goals will be the difference between us drawing and winning games. Look how many points United and City are better because of RVP and Dzecko. Nando gives you plenty of work, but he complicates everything. Surely being a striker at Chelsea has got to be the easiest position to play in the league? You control the ball, pop it off, let the 3 amigos do their work, stay around the box and then when the chance comes, which it will, you shoot. We just need an out and out finisher and we'll win the league. So frustrating.

OsgoodIsKing

Believable6 Unbelievable1

It should be yes, but because Torres lack confidense he keep going down the middle and narrowing the game, cause Hazard and Mata goes in the middle where Oscar stands. imho when he does that he makes it harder for the midfielders and he lacks upfront. the problem isent the service, the problem is him not moving away from defenders making runs in the box etc. everytime i see him he is just standing still looking at a football game, looking at ManC/U attackers is just something different its like looking at 10years old and then at a 25yeards old pro.

Had a bit of a go at Torres last week when he played United but i'll admit today that he played quite well. He always looked to beat a man and had a few good attempts on goal. Maybe a bit too ball greedy and made it a sort of personal vendetta against Liverpool but all in all I think he looked sharp and confident. Mata, Hazard brilliant again just couldn't really change the game. Little dissapointed with Oscar today, didn't look his usual bright self but it is just one game. Full backs were good as were the CBs but what cost us that game was the two defensive midfielders. Mikel was unbelievably slow on the ball as usual and dropped off Grandpa Jamie for the goal and I didn't think Ramires played too well either. Bring on next week though

A few points regarding transfers and todays game. Torres had a decent game, good runs, showed a bit of pace and generally worked hard. BUT strikers are judged on goals and sadly he needs 8 chances to get himself a goal. I think he doesnt feel like he belongs at chelsea and a good move to suit all parties would be player plus cash for falcao. Torres back to his boyhood club, back in spain which could boost his chances of playing for spain more regular, plus we get a world class finisher. I think mikel has improved a lot under di matteo but he doesnt give enough to the team for me. Cech, ramires, oscar, hazard and mata are the only players who i think are indespensable to our team. Fernandinho has had two great games against us and has looked good in other champions league games. I think he could work well next to ramires in holding midfield. A striker and holding midfielder are a must for january. Fernandinho and falcao for me.

Chelsea are no where near being a passing, beautiful football team......................

no one realizes it.....

chelsea vs swansea - 1-0 up, draw goal: header

chelsea vs shaktar - just beat an ukranian team.....
goals: torres lucky, oscar good but goalkeeper mistake, header

today: header....

none of our goals are coming from passes inside the box and stuff like that

seriously watch barcelona/borissia/real madrid they keep possesion so well!! chelsea do nott... they're scared of having the ball and then just shoot it up - typical english/premier league football

Believable10 Unbelievable3

Biggest problem is we do not have a striker standing infront of the goal 90% of the time, so there for none to pass too.

Agree0 Disagree0

Also all of them you mentioned have 2 great players that have lots of ball control in the pivot, that is necessary also they control the midfield completly but with Mikel we are never gonna be able to do that . Mikel sucks at it and Ramires is not the best at passing either.

Agree2 Disagree1

Well to be fair I did see Torres in the box quite a lot and he didn't get much service except a few crosses, which we all know he's never going to win. Torres looked bright he we played on the counter attack and I think, if we want to bring the best out of him we definitely need to attack with more pace and that means better transition between defense and midfield.

I am really SHOCKED but Di Matteo's is clueles, he dont have a tactic at all he just hopes Oscar, Mata, Hazard scores and tells Torres to help them or have the defenders to score goals from Corners, freekicks. This is EXACTLY the same last season he just told people to defend and shoot the ball up to Drogba.

Di Matteo is completly stupid, at swansea most of the players were dead tired, then they were ok form at Shaktar and dead tired again at liverpool. He really need to start using the squad or we WIL go down to the mid table.

Also he really needs some more brain when changing players even i could do a better job at that. We got 15min left and its 1-1 so we really need to score, So Matteo take a offensive player out for another offensive player, instead of a defensive one ( at that time Mikel played f ucking horrible he went forward and thought he could make a difference, instead he threw the ball away everytime he got it and ramires had to stand back and defend.)
So he decides to take Oscar out the player that links everything together and our play always look shaky without him, instead of taking Mikel out and move Oscar down next to ramires which would have worked much much better. That way we would have been much more offensive wil still having pretty much the same defending and much more ball control which a mikel/ramires in pivot never can and wil have.
So then we stand there can hardly control the midfield without Oscar and get pushed back and made very few chances withless someone did some amazing solo work and we obviously had a very hard time to get chances.

Apart from all that i was happy to see Bertrand and Cesar they did a really good job, you could really see bertrand improved alot compared to when he played at Shaktar he really needed a game or two to get some to shake the rusty legs off.
I am still very suprised that Di Matteo still use Torres and Mikel in the "big" games, everyone with a little understanding can see they are a burden on the team and it is never gonna work. Mikel was really good at playing the style we used last year, but he really dosent have the ball control or speed to play this way.
And Torres i am so suprised to see him playing him everygame - sometimes he do some amazing thing gets around 3 guys, but then he throw the ball away it always end up him losing the ball one way or another he cannot see when to stop and pass it and it really makes me pull my hair out to see such things at chelsea. But Torres always end up playing like a midfielder and forgets he actually is a striker, i think he tries to compensate that way for being unsecure and awful infront of the goal.

Matteo really needs to rest people up front he seems to only do it with the defenders for some reason, and he really needs to start using different players the benched players need games aswell or they are just gonna leave Chelsea if they sit on the bench all the time.
I think that he needs to replace Torres with Moses and recall Lukaku if we dont find a striker in january, Torres have had so many chances this year and he still plays awful most teams rely on strikers scoring we are lucky if Torres scores.
If Matteo dont replace Torres with Moses or play with 4 attacking midfielders we are gonna lose more games that i can ensure you. and maybe even use Oscar in the pivot with ramires so we can control the midfield for once, then we can fit in Marin aswell.

I just made some funny math about goals scored comparing RVP and Torres.
RVP score 1 goal every 97min.
Torres score 1 goal every 228min.
RVP has one more assist aswell.
I think Torres should have scored alot more goals as we have 3 better attacking midfielders feeding him constantly if he actually bothers making runs or trying to lose the defenders. a Swansea defender they got for free completly took him out of the match and denied him every chance in 94min, that much for 50m huh?.

Also i think Mata,Oscar and especially Hazard need some shoot/finishing training, they should score some more goals even tho Mata,Oscar has scored ok ammount. im a little disappointed Hazard only scored 1 goal so far not counting the two from penalties and i think he should try take a shot on the goal more often than he does atm. but all 3 made alot of assists which is a huge ++++!

I really hope we could get Paulinho to replace Mikel and maybe a cheap good striker such as Wilfried Bony to take over in the January window.

Sorry for the wall of text.

That was a game we should have won easily but as I posted earlier 1 nil is really dangerous and we just didn't take our chances. I was just waiting for them to get a goal. And if Torres had of missed that chance that Mata missed he would have been absolutely slated on here. The lad just isn't getting the breaks, Jones made a great save and he played pretty good today. We do need another striker or 2 although as the other 2 Manchester clubs we are competing with have 4 each to choose from and they are all dangerous. I agree with the earlier post and would let Sturridge go, buy one and bring Lukaku back. Another interesting point what about Hoddles comments. Mikel does not do enough in that centre mid role.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

The lad aint been getting the breaks for the past two years, top notch replacement needed.

The draw is not the worst result in the world.I personally think every player played well, but the system was not correct.Well, we are new to this type of playing style so it is taking time to get the system right. When we play well we play the ball high up the pitch and press to stop the opposition from playing ,but lately we are dropping back and thus conceding space .RDM must be knowing it .I hope he sorts it out.The key to our success is playing and pressing high up the pitch .The lesser the space the lesser effective the opposition are.I am sure we will do it in time.
As for some people not supporting Torres ,please give the guy a break he played brilliantly. He did most with the chances he had.Mata was poor today why not boo him too!RDM did poor substitutions why not boo him! Hell boo the team for a draw!
This has to stop here and now .If we do not support our players ,it gives pleasure to our oppositions and they start piling on the garbage and it is downward spiral from there.
The guy is giving everything ,so what he does not score whenever we want him to ,that is the game.It just saddens me to see people not cheering a player after he has given his all.Our is team that is very very different from others and anyone can score when we are on song and the striker can contribute on and off the ball.
The players play for us and we are CHELSEA, we do not want to be Man u or city or any other team ,our playing style will be our own.Let their players score 30 goals a season, what I want my players to do is to give their all and if they do that the team will do just fine, that is all I care.
Because if it is Torres today,it might be Mata or Hazad tomorrow .True ,sometimes things are not perfect so when we lose we can debate things that did not work ,but never ever boo or not support a player who is giving it his all. There is more to the game than just winning all the time and booing a committed player is the worst thing us fans can do.It weaken us and strengthens the oppositions.
It just pains me to see some of the reactions of the fans not supporting or booing player who play to entertain them.
So please I request you all to stop this nonsense and support the players and the team when they are trying their best. After all we are the BLUES.:-)

Inns and outs upfront:

In:Huntelaar,Falcao and maybe recall Lukaku...

Out:Torres,Sturridge

We need strikers that can nick us games like City and United you can never have enough!Falcao for Torres swap + 15m added and huntelaar for 25m and Sturridge out for 15m

15m+10m=25m,for a transition of 2 strikers that will be brilliant business!

Even bring

Believable1 Unbelievable13

Huntelaar for 25m? he's out of contract in june they'd be lucky to get £10m.

no chance atletico would accept £15m and Torres for Falcao. They only want cash upfront due to their financial situation. Also Falcao's valued at something like £48m so you really think torres would be valued at £33m. we'd be lucky to get £20m if we sold Torres.

also i would drive sturridge to liverpool if they offered £15m for him. he too is near the end of contract, and he's just rubbish.

Very disappointing result against a one-man mid table side who created 2 chances in the whole game. Some sloppy set piece defending.

However, on a positive note our chance creation, especially in the first half, was very good. Torres could have had a hattrick, oscar and mata had chances that they definitely should have taken, ivanovic had a decent chance and hazard had a couple of half chances too.

Overall i thought we defended quite well today, Bertrand and Azpi were solid, Ram and Mikel made some good tackles and interceptions. We didn't let them play.

On another day, we could have won that game 4-0.

The main thing that concerns me is that utd or city would have definitely been more clinical and comfortably won that game.

As a side note, it is disappointing that RDM has no plan B and doesn't use his whole squad. Same 14 or 15 play in the league week in week out, this can only lead to fatigue, considering our huge workload on the horizon.

Also that's 3 league games without a win so we don't want to start our usual winter slump. Need to keep the momentum up and get wins on the board.

To summarise a decent performance with a few positives but the worrying thing is we can't close it out, much like the Swansea and Utd league games.

You know you've got problems when a team like liverpool can get a draw,we have to be more clinical with our finishes.should've killed off the game in the first half.RDM needs to rotate more, get more of the squad involved.we need at least 18-20 players who are ready to play, not just 11-14 players.mata, hazard and oscar are still human, they get fatigued, not even half way through the season yet they already show signs of burnout.hope RDM realizes this sooner rather than later.UP THE BLUES!

aL

Believable5 Unbelievable4

I hate the little cheat Suarez, but he always believes he can score. Don't think Torres does any more which is great shame cos he still has skill. Sturridge not yet good enough to be the answer. When you say ''a team like Liverpool'' do you mean a team that have to play kids because we have no sugar daddy willing to spend hundreds of millions? At home as well, you should be embarrassed. When the FFP rules come into effect then your glory days will be gone.

MR EM {Ed002's Note - As far as the FFPR are concerned Liverpool are rather worse placed than Chelsea at this point in time. You perhaps want to take a look at teh spending over the past two years as well.}

ED Your comment makes no sense as it is obvious i'm talking about when the ffp rules start which is in the future is it not? And Liverpool are becoming more a better more self sustained club are they not? Liverpool have a much larger fan base do they not? Chelsea have done well financialy due to winning the CL but will they win it every year? We have some huge sponsors, a bigger stadium on it's way. In 5-10 years Chelsea will not be the force they currently are. {Ed002's Note - You perhaps need to read up on the FFPR - the initial data is already being collected. Regardless of the size of the sponsorship turnover at Liverpool is not good still and they need to be back in the Champions League. I rather suspect your suggestion that in 5-10 years time Chelsea will not be the "force they are" is based on schadenfreude arising from misplaced jealousy.}

Atletico Madrid aside and possibly Shaktar away, what is he on about? we were the better team against arsenal, came back to beat spurs comfortably in the end, beat man u in the carling cup and only lost to them in the league cause of the ref. and is he trying to insist liverpool are still a "really good team" this bias really does get on my nerves but cmon chelsea, lets prove them wrong again today. WOW You guys are totally deluded, how can your team that cost hundreds of millions of pounds beat our youngsters? Looks like old sugar daddy needs to find a couple of hundred million more...at home as well, you should be ashamed!

just seen it on ssn that chelsea are considering a 30 million bid for maroune fellaini? What a bargin just to make sure we get him we should offer mikel and sturridge too

Sounds a bit far fetched mate. Ramires signed a long term deal last year, Mikel is being offered one. We have KDB, Chabolah and Josh all returning as well. He wouldn't be cover for the deep or attacking mids, so where would be play? If he is going to be a squad player, why would we pay 30m?

Walcott would be cheap play him ST where he wants to be hes got pace to match our 3 midfielders hes alwalys fighting for the ball i think he would be a great addition
Carefree {Ed002's Note - I expect that Walcott will be signing a new deal at Arsenal.}
